Stream Line SQL Query

Hello all,
I have a table that contains more than 100 000 records, structure seen below. I am trying to perform simple queries on this table and it is taking FOREVER for the query to return (in excess of 10 minutes). The only field that contains unique data is the 'key', which I have made the primary key.
Table: WORK
Name Null? Type
ASSIGNMENT_NO NOT NULL NUMBER(2)
START_DATE NOT NULL DATE
END_DATE DATE
ID_NO NOT NULL NUMBER(9)
CODE NOT NULL VARCHAR2(4)
REF_KEY NOT NULL NUMBER(9)
STATUS NOT NULL VARCHAR2(1)
ID_NAME NOT NULL VARCHAR2(30)
LAST_MODIFIED_DATE NOT NULL DATE
KEY NOT NULL NUMBER(9)
As I need to pass into the query varying data I Use a PL/SQL function to call the SQL query.
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION THE_SAMPLE (THE_REF_KEY, THE_ID_NO, PUT_A_DATE_HERE)
RETURN VARCHAR2 IS
CURSOR C IS
SELECT w1.code
FROM work w1
WHERE w1.ref_key = THE_REF_KEY
AND w1.ID_NO = THE_ID_NO
AND w1.status <> 'I'
AND w1.start_date <= PUT_A_DATE_HERE
AND (w1.end_date IS NULL or w1.end_date >= PUT_A_DATE_HERE)
AND w1.start_date = (SELECT MAX(W2.start_date)
FROM work w2
WHERE w2.REF_KEY = W1.REF_KEY
AND w2.ID_NO = W1.ID_NO
AND w2.status <> 'I'
AND w2.start_date <= PUT_A_DATE_HERE
AND (w2.end_date IS NULL or w2.end_date >= PUT_A_DATE_HERE));
out_rec c%ROWTYPE;
begin
begin
open C;
fetch c into out_rec;
CLOSE C;
EXCEPTION
WHEN no_data_found THEN
out_rec.code := NULL;
END;
return out_rec.code;
end THE_SAMPLE;
I am looking for a quick way to accomplish the same task. The main reason is that I am feeding this SQL statement about 20 000 different ref_keys each with a particular ID_NO. Since it seems to take a long time just to process one element I did want crunch data for the next month.
Any help, idea, comments would be greatly welcomed.
Any ideas on how to stream line this?

Hummm... I am still working on it, but this is what I have come up with so far:
One way is to do this use this
CURSOR C IS
SELECT w1.code
FROM work w1, (SELECT MAX(w2.start_date) as MAX_DATE
FROM work w2
WHERE w2.ref_key = THE_REF_KEY
AND w2.ID_NO = THE_ID_NO
and w2.status <> 'I'
AND w2.start_date <= PUT_A_DATE_HERE
AND (w2.end_date IS NULL or w2.end_date >= PUT_A_DATE_HERE)) GET_MAX
WHERE w1.ref_key = THE_REF_KEY
AND w1.ID_NO = THE_ID_NO
and w1.status <> 'I'
AND w1.start_date <= PUT_A_DATE_HERE
AND (w1.end_date IS NULL or w1.end_date >= PUT_A_DATE_HERE)
AND w1.start_date = GET_MAX.MAX_DATE;
This way does seem to work a bit faster. I will have to see as the hours pass by.
I am still looking for ways that will process this faster.

  • How to configure a sql query of 110 lines in a DB Adapter

    Hi all,
    I have a sql query which is 110 lines and i need to use "select"operation in DB Adapter.I dont understand where to put the query in DB Adapter.I worked on a sql query which is 3 or 4 lines but this is the first time iam working on a sql Query with 110 lines.
    Please help me.Give me sme link or any document that i can refer.
    Thanks,
    Kiran

    HI,
    Please use the option of Custom Sql and paste it there.
    it does not matter what operation are you using but the xsd will form accordingly.
    If you need to do only via Select operation in the wizard, than select the tables and add pararmeters in the next screen and try to give the logic there.
    I feel the best thing to do would be with the Custom Sql query.
    And whatever variables you need to pass dyanamically.
    Just put an # symbol before to the column name .
    The variable will be formed.
    Thanks,
    Tirumala Dixit.

    Are you working with OracleSQL, There is no sysdate in SQL Server.
    Select sl.SKU, sl.LOC,

    case when sl.QTY =0 then '' else CAST(sysdate-editdate AS DECIMAL(10,2)) END

  • PL/SQL function body returning SQL Query Problem

    I have wandered around the forums and found quite a bit of helpful information that has gotten me to the point I am now at. Unfortuntely, PL/SQL is not my strongest point and I am getting an error when I attempt to run my report.
    This is what I have for my package:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE LIB2.report_query

    function create_report2(v1 IN varchar2) RETURN VARCHAR2;

    I have tried the region source line in many variations, this is just my latest one. None of them have worked. I am quite obviously missing something quite important and probably extremely silly. Any ideas?

    This query will never work. I marked only couple of errors you have there. Actually,
    I meant "formating" errors rather than "syntactical" errors. You are missing spaces
    all over the place. This is why I suggested to use a CLOB column in a test table
    to return the query for debugging purposes - this is how I do it at least, when I need
    to escape and concatenate a lot of code.
    If you are referencing item values from a user session in a function or a procedure,
    then you need to use the v('ITEM') syntax instead of :ITEM syntax. However, if the
    output of this procedure will be used as a function returning SQL query, you will
    be fine with :ITEM.

  • SQL Query as Item Source/Oracle Reports w/ HTML DB?

    I have successfully used a SQL Query as an item source in the past on several occasions. However, in this instance, every time I try to do this, I get the following error:
    Error ERR-1019 Error computing item default value: page=3 name=P3_TEST_ITEM.
    ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested ORA-02063: preceding line from [database_name]
    If I use the exact same query in creating a report region, the page displays fine and the query returns the correct data. Why might this be happening, and what can I do to fix it?
    Also - off the subject - is there a way to use HTML DB to deploy reports that are created in Oracle Reports Builder? I have created several employee productivity reports for supervisors and managers in HTML DB, which is great for allowing them to run them live and have fields as parameters for varying employees, date ranges, etc... but formatting them to be browser and printer friendly is an absolute nightmare so far. If I could create and format the reports in Reports Builder and then deploy them using HTML DB, while still being able to offer parameters to the user, that would be perfect. Is this possible?

    Here is my query:
    SELECT
    TO_CHAR((sum(decode(ef.production_function,'Y',ef.function_minutes+ef.function_ot_minutes))/60)/8, '9999999.99')
    FROM
    RLAPPLSG.EMPLOYEE_INFO@REMOTE_SERVER EI,
    RLAPPLSG.SC_EMP_FUNCTIONS@REMOTE_SERVER EF,
    RLAPPLSG.SC_EMP@REMOTE_SERVER E
    WHERE
    ( e.SC_EMP_NBR=ef.SC_EMP_NBR )
    AND ( ei.EMP_ID=e.EMP_ID )
    AND (
    ( trunc(( e.SC_DATE )) BETWEEN :P2_BEGIN_DATE AND :P2_END_DATE )
    AND (ei.EMP_MGRS_ID = :P2_SUPERVISOR_ID
    OR ei.EMP_ID = :P2_SUPERVISOR_ID)
    Every table and/or view that is referenced here is done so remotely. The column datatype breakdown is as follows:
    production_function - BOOLEAN
    function_minutes - NUMBER
    function_ot_minutes - NUMBER

  • SQL query with JSP and WML-parameters

    Hey,
    Could you help me?
    I'm trying to do the following. WML deck card 1 send parameter to same WML deck's card help. I try to read the parameter with JSP in card help by putting the parameter to SQL query, but it doesn't work. I can read the parameter with WML in card help. I can also print the value of the parameter with JSP if I generate WML with JSP.
    /*parameter sending from card 1 to card help*/
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    out.println("<setvar name='valittukurssi' value='$(valittukurssi)'/>");
    /*parameter read with WML in card help */
    <p>Valitse kurssi.
    $valittukurssi</p>
    /'parameter read with JSP by generating WML with JSP*/
    out.println("<p>$valittukurssi</p>");
    /* SQL query with JSP */
    ResultSet uudettulokset = uusilause.executeQuery("select * from kurssi where lyhenne='$valittukurssi'");
    Thanks,
    Rampe

    You're problem is easy to fix. You're confusing WML variables with JSP variables. See below:
    >
    /*parameter sending from card 1 to card help*/
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    out.println("<setvar name='valittukurssi'
    value='$(valittukurssi)'/>");
    Above you set a var that will work on the phone, not in JSP.
    /*parameter read with WML in card help */
    <p>Valitse kurssi.
    $valittukurssi</p>
    Yes the above does display the parameter, because it is a client side WML var, but you cannot use this variable in the JSP code (that's why your SWL fails).
    /'parameter read with JSP by generating WML with
    JSP*/
    out.println("<p>$valittukurssi</p>");Here's you're problem, the above line is EXACTLY the same as the one before it. When the container parses through this JSP code it translates the above line to:
    <p>$valittukurssi</p> on the WML page and the CLIENT uses it's local variable to display it.
    What you need and want is to have a variable that can be used in JSP code and output to your WML page. Here's how it's done:
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    String some_name = "valittukurssi";
    out.println("<setvar name='"+some_name+"'
    value='$("+some_name+")'/>");
    //note that you may have to escape the ( and ) with a \
    //so we displayed the variable above into the WML page, now we can use it in the SQL query:
    /* SQL query with JSP */
    ResultSet uudettulokset =
    uusilause.executeQuery("select * from kurssi where
    lyhenne='"+some_name+"'");//the end of the command is: " ' " ) ;

  • Width of field in Report From SQL Query

    I have created a report from SQL query with 15 columns being selected. However, no matter what column width and column type (pixel, char, percent) I enter in the column formatting tab of the report, I cannot get the report to format the column to the width I desire. It is always a fixed width. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi,
    Char (used for ASCII format)
    Displays the output in the specified number of
    characters per line. For example, if you enter 20
    in Width, the report displays 20 characters of the
    column data in each line. If the number of
    characters per line exceeds the specified
    number, the remaining characters are wrapped
    to the next line.
    Pixel
    Displays the output in the specified number of
    pixels per row. For example, if you enter 10 in
    Width, the column data displays 10 pixels of
    data per line of the displayed table.
    Percent
    Displays the output in the specified percentage
    of the table. For example, if you enter 25 in
    Width, the column data displays in 25% of the
    displayed table.
    Thanks,
    Sharmila

  • Report from SQL Query -Excel format only show the first page

    Hi,
    I have some Reports from SQL Query. In the display options, I choose Excel as default format. The Excel documents only show the first page. If I choose HTML as default format, it shows every rows.
    Please advise on how to have a complete Excel document as HTML format does.
    Thanks a lot.
    Lina Han

    I beleive when you export Oracle reports to Excel it is the Data that is transferred along with Column Names.
    You cannot export the variables defined on the report.
    Hence you will not be able to export the Footer to excel. (Still looking into it will let you know if i find anything interesting)

  • Is there a way to consolidate calculations used in SQL Query Data Sets?

    I am building SQL Query Data Sets against multiple DB Views which all have different date formats. I have the date parameter working well, but want to consolidate the changes that I have to do to it especially for the quarter. For example the SQL against a monthly view would use "where year_month > to_char(:ST_DATE, 'YYYY-MM')" which is not too hard, but to make that work for the quarterly view I need several concats and a decode to get a "> '2012-Q2'". I would like not to have to do this within every where clause. I had put this into a global element hoping to use that in a filter for the data set, but the filter does not have access to global elements only parameters.
    Is there any way to refer to a calculated global element from the data set to do this? I am using Layout Templates, so even if I wanted to I could not do the condition within the template.
         Thanks,
         Rick

    Change the following line to include the red coloured parts
    <div class="MasterColumn" spry:repeat="ds4" spry:setrow="ds4" spry:hover="MasterColumnHover" spry:select="MasterColumnSelected">
      <span>{Dsp_#}</span><span>{Dsp_WkDay}</span><span>{Dsp_Event}</span>
    </div>
    The add the following style rule to your document:
    .MasterColumn span {
        display: inline-block;
    I hope this helps.
