Streaming Music from Extreme to Express to My Stereo

I have the new Airport Extreme base station attached to my iMac. I would like to stream music from iTunes to Airport Express, which is attached to my stereo. Can anyone point to a thread that explains how to do this? BTW, my Extreme is an encrypted network.

I've been stalking this topic for days. Loved the new posts today. Alas, none helped. Granted, I'm very new to the mac platform.
Have new mac. Have new extreme base station (very nice). New mac very happy with new extreme -- internet connection is excellent.
Bought an express. Plugged it in to the stereo. Streaming itunes - so cool, i'm thinking.
Express just blinks amber. Mac refuses to recognize its existence -- it only wants the extreme. Moved the express to within 20 unobstructed feet of the Mac. No change.
Tried the hard reset. Nothing.
Looked for the controversial IPv6 workaround. But no IPv6 option comes up.
Apple help is particularly frustrating because it's all geared to the old extreme unit, which apparently has different menu options and such. There's no "configure IPv6" to click.
Reviewed the post "AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode." But I cannot even do the first step, asking the Mac to connect to the express. Because it says there's no express to connect to, only the extreme. The Airport setup assistant only recognizes the extreme, and no other device, such as the express. Drats.
Configured the extreme to WPA Personal 2. Is that an issue? Or is this particular express unit a refurb in the making?
I sure like the idea of playing itunes on the stereo, but keeping the nano out of reach of my 3 year old.
Please, thoughts? Thanks in advance.

  • Music from Extreme to Express

    Hoping someone can confirm...
I have my music on an external harddrive which i access wirelessly via an airport extreme. now i want to add a airport extreme and steam my music from harddrive, through airport extreme to airport express.
question is, will this work? have no experience setting up networks so am a bit nervous that all this data bouncing from airport to airport will effect how i enjoy my music.
    thanks, erik

Yes but it is not directly streamed from the hard drive to the AirPort Express (AX).
iTunes running on your computer will access the music library on the hard drive connected to the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and then iTunes on your computer will stream in through the network to the AX.

  • How can I stream music from my ipad2 to my car stereo using bluetooth?

Trying to connect my ipad 2 to my car stereo using bluetooth.  Do I/can I do this with or without additional harware?

    I don't think it's possible.
If the hyperlink doesn't work, try again.  There is a problem at the Apple site.

Well... do you see the airplay button?
I tought Airplay is limited to stream music from Itunes to airport express.http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4437?viewlocale=nl_NL
I also want to upgrade my hifi setup with the airport. But with macbook of late 2009 (OSx Lion) I wonder it would be possible to stream music form internet.
On this forum, I could not find any guarantee that it might work with OSx ML.
    What do you think?

  • Cannot stream music from MacBook Pro to Airport Express

Hi, I have an Airport Express. But with both my computer (imac and MacBook Pro) if I try playing music from itunes, it cannot connect. An Airplay pop up window opens and trying connection to airport for ever...
On the other hand, it works when streaming music from iphones or ipads.
I have tried changing settings...but it never works....
    Can anyone help please
    thanks

    Hi thanks for your answer.
I am afraid it still does not work.
Now, when I select the Airport, it tries connecting for a long time "connecting to "Airport Name"...but never connects.

  • Will there be a possibility to stream music from iMac safari to airport express via airplay - from youtube for example?

hi, i want to stream music from my imac to my airport express station via airplay. but not only with itunes, but also from safari (youtube) or other programs like games etc.
is there - or will there be - a way?
    thx
    monimor

Thank you for the answer, but airfoil is pay-software. on ipad and iphone there´s airplay for allmost every application - without extra payment.
i wonder, why apple provides airplay only for mobile-devices.

  • Can't stream music from iPhone to airport express when connected to internet

I have an issue with my airport express. When the unit is used solely for streaming music from my IPhone to connected stereo speakers without an Ethernet cable attached it works fine.  When I attach an Ethernet cable to the airport express and connect to the Internet on my iPhone, the airport express will no longer stream music from the iPhone. This is a recent problem, previously I was able to access the Internet on my iPhone from the airport express, whilst simultaneously streaming music from the iPhone back to the airport express.

Do you mean Lan cable? Can this be done wirelessly from itunes to airport express without the internet connections?  I can't connect to an airport express that's not connected to the internet.

  • Stream music from iPad using Airport Express

I have an AT&T Uverse router for my home wifi network.  I want to connect an Airport Express to a powered speaker, then stream music from my iPad (not from a Mac) to the speaker.  Is this possible?  If so, can someone describe how to do it?

  • Streaming music from iTunes 09 (Snow Leopard) to AirPort Express

Hi! I'm an elementary music teacher who travels to several schools. To make my life simpler, I set up airport express base express stations in my schools. This way, I don't have to worry about plugging and unplugging cables and running cables all over the room. Until my update to Snow Leopard and iTunes 9, this worked flawlessly! Now, I have major audio problems! I end up changing the channel and updating on my basestations, and that only solves the problem sometimes. On an "unofficial" Apple forum I found a post that mentions selecting "Multiple Speakers" to solve the problem, by streaming the music as well as playing it through the speakers on my MacBook Pro. Again, it only helps sometimes. Does anyone have a work around? I spoke with Apple Tech Support a few nights ago. They had me reset the PRAM and some other things, but that didn't help either. I don't suppose there's a way I could get iTunes 8 back on my machine either... Any help or suggestions anyone has would be greatly appreciated! Also, is there some way to let APple know directly this is a problem that they need to get an update to fix?
    Thanks!
    Paul

    it doesn't work with mp3 either ...
i can't stream music from my iMac G5 (10.5.8, iTunes 10.2.1) and from my macbook pro (10.6.7., iTunes 10.2.1). I tryed two diffrent Airport Express Stations, both reseted just to be sure and non of them can't connect with iTunes. iTunes tries to connect and after several minutes it just gives up.
    Airplay via iPhone works !

  • HT4437 Streaming music from iTune to Airport Express

In order to stream music from iTunes (Windows Desktop) to AirPort Express, do both have to be connected via WiFi network? What if both are connected via same wired network.
My iTunes cannot see AirPort Express connected to the same network.
    thanks,

Airport utility installed on my PC (Win Vista) cannot detect AA. It communicates only when I enter the IP address of AA. After that I have configured the AA in Bridge mode. AA has wired connection with Linksys Router.PC is connected with the same router.
iPod Touch can easily detect AA and can stream music to it too.

  • Streaming music from blackberry to airport express?

Does anybody know any applications for streaming music from my blackberry to my airport express?  I use airfoil on my PC when not in itunes but can't seem to find anything for the berry...
    Thanks in advance.

I'm not aware of any BlackBerry apps that can do this, but another option is the BlackBerry Music Gateway. It would not stream to an AirPort Express, but like the Express, you can use it to stream from your BlackBerry to an audio receiver of self-powered speakers.

  • Intermittent issue streaming music from iTunes to airport express

I'm experiencing an issue when streaming music from my iMac to two airport expresses (1st generation). Music will be playing fine but once in a great while, when a new song starts it's like a digital bomb has gone off. It's similar to an amber alert coming through the speakers instead of music. When I stop the song and start it again, back comes the music. This has happened to many different song files so I've discounted the possibility that it's a corrupted file. I've not been able to determine any other pattern that would give me some insight into the root of the problem. The problem has existed across two different routers so doubtful that’s a factor either. All my software (iTunes and OS) are up to date and generally the system works well. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions or advice? I’m at a loss on how to resolve.

Update: this problem exists when just listening to music on iMac with iTues; no airport express or network involved. Something, somewhere in the software is causing this.

  • Problem streaming music from iPhone to airport express

    Hi
I use a Airport express connected to my stereo to stream music from my iMac and iPhone. It works brilliantly and seamisily from my iMac but when i try to listen to music from my iPhone it connects up but then plays the music but it keeps dropping out and you hear the music but it seams to keep loosing the connection.
the imac and iPhone are connected to the same wifi network as the airport express. If i lay the iphone near the wifi router it still drops the signal and drops the connection to the airport express
ive got an iPhone 4s running Iso 5  and lion on my Mac
just a note ive had this problem with my previous iPhone 3gs running the old iso and the new iso 5 when i updated it the other month
I have also updated the Firmware on the airport express
any suggestions or solutions would be greatuly recieved.
    Thanks in advance

    thanks for your replies.
It's because I have one router for internet (that I share with my neighbors) and another with my Airport Express hooked to it.
But I would like to stream my music when I go to my friends.
    I'll write to Apple

  • Streaming music from itunes

can you stream music from a cd over the airport express from itunes without ripping tracks into a playlist

    Yes you can.

  • Can I stream music from my computer other than through iTunes?

2nd question on my new Airport Express: can I only send music from my computer to the hifi using AX through iTunes - or is there some other way I can stream music from the internet whilst it's playing on my computer?
If I can't do that, all I could do would be to record it (using Audio Hijack or iRecordMusic) and then play it via iTunes, but that meant I couldn't listen to it directly.
