Stretching skewing an image

I have an image that is a page from a book. I need to
manipulate the image
as if the page is opening. I can grab the corners and re-size
or rotate etc.
I need to be able to curve the 2 long sides and the image to
look as if it
has curved. I have the following example without a graphic. (
modified from
someone elses work) 80.5.54.164/swiff/anims/PageTurn2.swf .
How do I get the
pink page to have an image on it that stays with the page.

Is there a way to stretch a background image rather than repeating it?

I have a one celled table with a background image. It's really just a gradient strip (gradient going from top to bottom - ending in fade to white). I want the image to continue all the way across the page. If I set it to repeat via X, somehow you can see where the repeat begins... so I was wondering if there's a way to just stretch the image from left to right to force it to fit exactly to 98% of the window no matter how big the window is.

That's not entirely true. With CSS, you can stretch a background image to any dimension:
background-size: 10px 100%;

Please note that this is not an HTML forum.
You can use an image tag on a DIV positioned behind the rest of the page, so that could actually work. And if you want to use body:background, then look up an HTML/CSS reference and see if there are any other body attributes or CSS stuff that applies to the background image.

Change perspective/skew an image?

Could someone please provide some tips and tricks for skewing an image in CP6? I am trying to take a forward-facing image and at a specific time skew/angle the image to make room for icons to the right of it.. When I skew the image, the perspective looks off as the upper-corner is more prominent. I hope that my description is adequate. Sorry.

I believe the only parameters Captivate offers are the "Skew" and "Skew To" basic effects in the effects tab. If that isn't achieving the look you want, you can change the object's perspective in Photoshop or PowerPoint, then align the objects in the timeline so the skewed image appears when desired.

You can't do it inside Keynote, but there's an app called Picturesque that can do it to images.

Can I stretch a trapezoidal image into a true rectangular image?

I photographed a framed painting that, despite my best efforts, came out as a trapezoid rather than the rectangle I intended. The image has a slight taper in the sides going from top to bottom. The top of the image is 100% of the canvas width while the bottom of the image is perhaps 95% of the canvas width, so it is close to a true rectangle but not exact. What that means is that the bottom of the photo needs to be stretched by about 5%, the middle needs to be strecthed by about 2.5%, and the top is OK as is. Naturally, the amount of stretch required becomes progresively greater when going from the top to the bottom of the image. I'm new to Photoshop. Is it possible to perform such an image manipulation?

Hi Joe! The suggestions in the previous reply are right on. Just to spell those out a bit more:
1. Open your image in Photoshop. Double-click on the Background layer in the Layers palette (see the red arrow in the image below). The bottom layer is locked by default when you open an image, and double-clicking makes it editable.
2. Right-click on the same layer and select "Convert to Smart Object" from the menu. Converting the layer to a Smart Object will ensure that it will lose as little quality as possible when it is transformed.
3. From the Edit menu, select "Free Transform." You should see a box with handles appear around your image.
4. Adjust the handles till you are satisfied with the image, then hit Enter. You should now have a successfully straightened image, which you can save out using the Save As or Save for Web commands in the File menu. Hope this helps!

Canvas resize stretches pixels of image content slightly when used :(

I've a document that measures 3000 x 3000 pixels and I want to put an extra 600 pixels in height on it. I tried using canvas resize tool and it puts the extra pixels in height where I want them but it actually stretches the content very slightly. I noticed this because my artwork contains an image of planet earth from space and the globe gets stretched higher (only very slightly) in the direction of the new pixels. I've viewed it in various zooms including 50% and 100% and no success there either. Could it be a bug? best

I've also just been working on another piece of work and photoshop said there was a problem saving the file...I had to close it and lose all my work...could it be a bug with the download?
I don't think I previously cropped the image with delete cropped pixels unchecked and when I did use the crop tool I only ever expanded the top section too. The only layer that extends beyond the canvas is the lightning layer at the top.

ANy good way to "logarithmically" stretch a 4x3 image into 16x9?

Hi everyone-
I have recently re-telecined a 16mm film so I could get it as an HD master. it was originally shot and composed in 4:3 years ago.
HD is 16:9. The 16mm film, as I said, is 4:3. I am trying to find a way of changing the aspect ratio. I know I can simply strectch the horizontal, but then all the people are short and fat. I could zoom so the sides hit the edge of frame, but then I loose a lot of head room.
When I have played the 4:3 DVD on my 16:9 Panasonic TV there's a mode called "just" (I have seem simillar modes on other brands called "mesh"). It zooms in the image slightly and streches it logarithmically. The center of the image is virtually untouched. The sides are gradually further and further stretched as it moves further from the center.
Sure, some shots look odd (if a person walks from left to right of frame they will go from long and flat on one end to normal shaped as they go through the middle of the picture space to long and flat on the other end. But for 99% of the DVDs I have watched (and the over the air Standard def stuff) the method looks fantastic.
I think combining the three various methods on a shot by shot basis would be the best solution.
The problem is I haven't been able to find a way to do that "logarithmic stretching" on FCP. Has anyone here seen a way? Or is there a plug in that I can buy? Its seems like it should be a simple math based solution.

When switching to 16:9, Keynote stretches all fullscreen images

My presentations are hundreds of slides, no text, 1024 x 768.
Occasionally, a client wants me to present on a 16:9 screen. I go to the document pane and change it to 1920 x 1080 and voila... EXCEPT
Except that any image that was full size (covering the whole screen) is stretched. Not only that, but the metrics pane is set for constrain proportions. So now for each and every slide, I have to go in, uncheck constrain, move the picture so I can see the handles, use my eye to judge what it ought to be, unstretch it, and move it back where it belongs.
How do I instruct Keynote to leave these pictures alone, the same way it leaves any picture that isn't all the way to the edges alone?
Failing that, how can I change the images in bulk?

Imagine a photo that shows 10 people side by side (Albert Einstein is in the middle). In the original presentation, I placed the photo to fill the squarer aspect ratio, and thus only 7 people are shown, 2 cropped out to the left and one to the right. But Einstein is still there, so it's a great shot.
Now, I get the chance to use the wider aspect ratio, because the presentation will be done for 1000 people on a really expensive 16:9 hd projector. Great.
I change the aspect ratio of the presentation and Keynote does exactly the wrong thing. It stretches the photo, making it wider but not taller, so that einstein and the other brilliant scientists are stretched wide, making them weird.
So I have to go that slide, click on it, go to the inspector, unlock the aspect ratio (which Keynote ignored), slide it a little so I can see the handles, grab the side handle and make it narrower to get the faces back to thin again (by eye) and then slide it back so all 10 guys are showing.
There are no circumstances under which the user would EVER want Keynote to take a picture and make it wider and not taller. And yet it does.
The fascinating thing for me is that if I start with the picture inset just a little from the edges of slide, Keynote leaves it alone.
So, unless you can help me, I have to take my original, make every picture a little smaller, then change the aspect ratio and then go back and make every picture fill the screen.

Stretched text and image with FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE after Air player update

One of my Air applications uses StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE to switch to full screen during the presentation of some sheets.
Everything worked fine untill some users reported a streching of texts and images in the sheets.
It turns out that the problem occurs after an update from the Adobe Air Player to 3.1 from 2.7.
The first screen shots shows the text as it should be, the second screen shot shows the text after the update of the Air Player.
The code used to go into the Full Screen mode is:

I can reproduce the problem on a couple of computers with Windows Xp but it's not happening on all the computers I've tested.
Any idea how to fix this (without telling my users to Uninstall the current Air Player and reinstall the Air Player 2.7)?

Stretching images while retaining their aspect ratio..?

I'm looking for a method that will allow me to resize an image (div background or regular img) to fit as tall and wide as the container allows, while retaining the image's native aspect ratio.
The method I'm currently using is :

However, this method only seems to work when the body is the container, and will only keep one of the two axis within view. I can specify either height:100% or width:100%, but not both because that will skew the images natural aspect ratio.
What I'm trying to accomplish is to block off 100 pixels at the bottom for navigation, 300 pixels on the right of the viewport for a text column, and leave the rest to be filled by an image that would stretch as much as the space allows (again, while retaining its aspect ratio).
Your suggestions are welcome!

First of all, you should never use dreamweaver option to modifie an image. Always use the appropriate programe to resize your image ( Photoshop or illustrator). Even if the web standart are 72 dpi you might never know what is the format of your image, and by stretching too much or downscaling it's size too much you will .. well.. have a low result.
Next : why do you want to keep a zone for navigation ?. Background by default cover everthing, and if you put your navigation on top of it, it will cover the background and make it invisible at that spot because your navigation will be on top of it.
Anyway What you want to do is first define exactly the maximum size of your Bg minus the zone you want to keep blank. Then put the bg and use option like Margin-right, margin-top to force the image to be where you want it to be.
Margin-bottom: 100px for exemple.
You can achieve that in your CSS setting i believe.

How to stretch background image, How to change show detail item header

Hello all I have a few questions I would like to pose humbly to your collective wisdom, FYI I use Jdeveloper 11.1.3 and ADF Fusion
First, how do I stretch the background Image? I have a background image in a show detail item but it is very small. 400 by 400. Thing is it's just a pic of the color red gradually moving from bright to dark in the image. So stretching it should not make it look horrible, but also repeating it makes it look silly, because you have 50 little images of dark red to bright red, instead of one big image of dark red to bright red. Can this be done and how?
Secondly how do I change the header of the show detail item in a Panel Accordion? I have 8 Show detail items, in the middle of my page and the user can click and switch between which one is open, which makes for a nice effect, but I would like to give each of the show detail items a particular color. I did this with the backgrounds but I can't do it with the header, which are always visible, while only one background is visible at a time. I tried using the skinning technique but I wasn't able to change the header (I changed the background so the skinning was done correctly). I used

font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;

background-color: Maroon;
}Because I read in the Fusion Guide (or somewhere) that the show detail item cannot be skinned and therefore doesn't have a property like af panel Accordion.

Third when I drop the data control on the page and if I pick search form, why can't I use the CreateInsert button? Why can't I use the form to Create new rows? It keeps giving me some type of error, like Row is out of bounds or something? Is that some mistake with my database, or page, or is it not possible to do it like that?

Thanks I haven't really had time to play around with this, as I have other concerns, but I do plan on coming back to it, and it is one of the things about ADF that really is bothersome. Creatively it means I can choose between 2 styles when making an app Blaf Rich and Fusion (the other ones are just worse versions of the two) while I will concede that the superb out of the box functionalities and things I can do declaratively probably mean I won't have a Dreamweaver type freedom of design I thought there might be a way to do some of these custom design changes.
A few questions though
When you skin the accordion are you able to propagate the changes to show detail item headers? Because that is one thing that I really want to change, just the color of the headers but I was unable to do so.
Also there is a component that is not part of a panel accordion or panel tabbed called panel box. Again I changed the backgrounds to great effect but I need to change the panel header and in this I failed.
Granted I used the css color attribute for both not a picture so maybe that is the reason. Just wondering if you succeeded.

Background image stretch in html not working if 'never remember history' is choosen

I have a problem that did not exist in previous mozilla versions. I found the problem after installing the most recent version and after setting firefox to "never remember history"
The problem is related to the CSS code for stretching a background image to fit the screen. The background image does stretch if "never remember history" is NOT set. Only part of the image is displayed and the rest of the background is black. I first noticed it with my website www.missionbayhighalumni.com and later found that the same problem also occurred with this website:

I created several test cases with very simple code, all had the problem. The background image stretch code tests all work for other browsers and even firefox if "never remember history" is not selected. It also appears to be intermittent.

Looks fine to me and all containers have a height:100%, so that is also correct
You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance

Footer background image stretching width of screen

I want to stretch my footer image the full width of the screen to mirror my header. It's easy for the header, as you simply designate this the body background image. The footer is different owing to differing page lengths. Is the only way to do this to take the footer div out of the container div?

Actually, I found a simpler solution by creating a wrapper div for the footer outside the container div. I cannot be bothered to utilize CS3 yet and I absolutely hate conditional comments for IE...
