String conversion to date

Hello,
My question might be a very common silly question,but I am not able to get a solution for it.My date is in the string in format Friday, July 28, 2006,I want to change it into
yyyy-mm-dd format i.e. 2006-07-28. Can some one please suggest me some way,so that I can use in my PL/SQL code.
Will really appreciate any help which I will receive.
Thanks
Regards
Prateek!

    How do I cast a String into a java.util.Date

    Thank you.
    I did it as following:
    Date tmpStart = new Date();
    Date tmpEnd = new Date();
    SimpleDateFormat format = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm a");
    try {
    tmpStart = format.parse("01/10/2001");
    tmpEnd = format.parse("01/10/2002");
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("Unable to parse the start and end date.");
    But I got an exception.

  • Implicit Conversion from data type sql_variant to datetime is not allowed.

     Getting a odd error. This code was working perfectly before a SQLServer upgrade.
    The linked database is working, I'm able to pull up data from it in separate queries just fine.
    I'm getting the following error.
    Implicit conversion from data type sql_variant to datetime is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query.
    Invalid column name 'TotalDay'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
    can anyone spot the issue? I've tried sever variations of the same code, but still get the same thing.
    If I put this section in a query by it self it works just fine.
    ( DATEDIFF(ss,
    CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),( SELECT TOP ( 1 )
    TimeDate
    FROM [nav].AcsLog.dbo.EvnLog AS X3
    WHERE UDF2 = E.No_
    AND CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), X3.TimeDate, 101) = CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), @sdate, 101)
    ORDER BY TimeDate ASC
    ),101),
    CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),( SELECT TOP ( 1 )
    TimeDate
    FROM [nav].AcsLog.dbo.EvnLog AS X4
    WHERE UDF2 = E.No_
    AND CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), X4.TimeDate, 101) = CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), @sdate, 101)
    ORDER BY TimeDate DESC
    ),101)) ) AS TotalDayBadge ,

    >ANDCONVERT(VARCHAR(10),X3.TimeDate,101)=CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),@sdate,101)
    It is not a good idea to use string dates for predicates in WHERE clauses.
    Use DATETIME or DATE in predicates.
    If you are not interested in the time part of DATETIME, use DATE datatype.
    Example:
    SELECT CONVERT(DATE, getdate());
    -- 2014-08-25

  • Implicit character or charactered structure -- to String  Conversion

    Hi everybody,
    that sounds trivial but i am struggeling.... which is the most elegant way to do a implicit "To-String" Conversion in ABAP Objects...
    I have e.g.
        data lok_string type string.
        lok_string = wa.
        m_object->addline( lok_string ).
    which is working fine but is not elegant comaring with java.
    i want
        m_object->addline( wa ).
    but this don't go when "wa" is a structured workarea with many "type c"s in it (and only these).
    but since the explicit assignment "lok_string = wa." is working well, there could be a elegant  implicit  one?
    (m_object->addline expects a string variable.)
    Thank is aprreciated.
    Regards
    Hartmut

    Hi Sandra,
    this is the right direction.... but i would like to have it as an nested expression... (since implicit conversion seams to be impossible)
    like...
    m_object->addline( lcl_xxx=>tostring( wa_head ) )
    but this line above is not an valid abap objects syntax, unfortunatelly
    ... having:
    class lcl_xxx definition.
      public section.
        class-methods tostring importing charlike type clike returning value(string) type string.
    endclass.
    class lcl_xxx implementation.
      method tostring.
        string = charlike.
      endmethod.
    endclass.
    Best regards

  • DEC to STRING conversion

    I can't seem to convert a DEC to a string.  This is a field defined in the dictionary by type TZNTSTMPS (DEC 15).  I tried the following to do the conversions:
    d_string = d_dec.
    write d_dec to d_string.
    CALL FUNCTION 'HRCM_AMOUNT_TO_STRING_CONVERT'
      EXPORTING
        betrg                         = d_dec
    *   WAERS                         = ' '
    *   NEW_DECIMAL_SEPARATOR         =
    *   NEW_THOUSANDS_SEPARATOR       =
    IMPORTING
       STRING                        = d_string.
    They all give me the same result which is an 8 character result with * being the first charcter.  Ultimately, what I need is to grab the first 8 characters as that is a date.
    Regards,
    Aaron

    Thanks for the idea.  ABI_TIMESTAMP_CONVERT_FROM works.
    Sorry, I thought it did.  It throws a run-time error telling me:
    Error analysis
        At the statment
             "WRITE src TO dest"
        only character-type data objects are supported at the argument position
        "dest", but no strings are supported (data types STRING and XSTRING).
        In this particular case, the operand "dest" has the
        type "g".
    It sounds like it doesn't like the DEC data type as an input but that is all I have to work with.
    Any ideas?

    Sorry, it looks like LXHME_TIMESTAMP_CONVERT_FROM will work for me.

  • Disallowed implicit conversion from data type datetime to data type timestamp

    Received error: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC
    Driver][SQLServer]Disallowed implicit conversion from data type
    datetime to data type timestamp, table 'myTbl', column 'duration'.
    Use the CONVERT function to run this query.
    I have a field named duration hh:mm:ss.lll that I am trying
    to insert into MS SQL. DB has field defined as [duration]
    [timestamp] NOT NULL,
    My insert has this: INSERT INTO myTbl( duration) VALUES(
    <cfqueryparam value="2006-05-26 11:12:13"
    cfsqltype="CF_SQL_TIMESTAMP"/> )
    Why does this not work? rrrrrrrrrrrrrr! BTW: also tried with
    seconds as 13.111 which did not work. Does the db duration need to
    be date? I just want to store a duration for the time of a movie...

    10 Q
    Duration as a timestamp? How odd, most people would store it
    as an integer. Or, if you want to build your own string, the syntax
    is {ts 'yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss'}. The seconds might not be required.
    In any event, use createodbcdatetime() for the value you want
    to put into your table.

  • Sporadically getting error "string or binary data would be truncated" in SQL server 2008 while inserting in a Table Type object

    I am facing a strange SQL exception:-
    The code flow is like this:
    .Net 4.0 --> Entity Framework --> SQL 2008 ( StoredProc --> Function {Exception})
    In the SQL Table-Valued Function, I am selecting a column (nvarchar(50)) from an existing table and (after some filtration using inner joins and where clauses) inserting the values in a Table Type Object having a column (nvarchar(50))
    This flow was working fine in SQL 2008 but now all of sudden the Insert into @TableType is throwing  "string or binary data would be truncated"  exception.
    Insert Into @ObjTableType
    Select * From dbo.Table
    The max length of data in the source column is 24 but even then the insert statement into nvarchar temp column is failing.
    Moreover, the same issue started coming up few weeks back and I was unable to find the root cause, but back then it started working properly after few hours
    (issue reported at 10 AM EST and was automatically resolved post 8 PM EST). No refresh activity was performed on the database.
    This time however the issue is still coming up (even after 2 days) but is not coming up in every scenario. The data set, for which the error is thrown, is valid and every value in the function is fetched from existing tables.
    Due to its sporadic nature, I am unable to recreate it now :( , but still unable to determine why it started coming up or how can i prevent such things to happen again.
    It is difficult to even explain the weirdness of this bug but any help or guidance in finding the root cause will be very helpful.
    I also Tried by using nvarchar(max) in the table type object but it didn't work.
    Here is a code similar to the function which I am using:

    I have tried by converting the columns and also validated the input data set for any white spaces or special characters.
    For the same input data, it was working fine till yesterday but suddenly it started throwing the exception.

    Remember, the CTE isn't executing the SQL exactly in the order you read it as a human (don't get too picky about that statement, it's at least partly true enough to say it's partly true), nor are the line numbers or error messages easy to read: a mismatch
    in any of the joins along the way leading up to your insert could be the cause too.  I would suggest posting the table definition/DDL for:
    - PSMetadata, in particular PSRowID, but just post it all
    - tblProjectSur, in particularcolumns CSymbID and TblProjSurSurID
    - cSymbLookup, in particular column CSymbID
    - PSRow, in particular columns SampleRowID, PID,
    - PSAuser and PSUserSur, in particualr all the USERID and RowID columns
    - SurCSymbs, in particular colum SIDs
    Also, a diagnostic query along these lines, repeat for each of your tables, each of the columns used in joins leading up to your insert:
    Select count(asurv.sid) as count all
    , count(case when asurv.sid between 0 and 9999999999 then 1 else null end) as ctIsaNumber
    from SurvCsymb
    The sporadic nature would imply that the optimizer usually chooses one path to the data, but sometimes others, and the fact that it occurs during the insert could be irrelevant, any of the preceding joins could be the cause, not the data targeted to be inserted.

  • Error in converting character string to smalldatetime data type

    I've installed SQL Server 2000 on my new laptop and Crystal Report XI, out of sudden, the Crystal Report to certain view can't run and I got the following error:
    Details: 22007 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL SERVER]Syntax Error cnverting character string to smalldatetime data type.
    Any suggestions?
    Hannah

    Here is the view the err is complaining about:
    SELECT     TOP 100 PERCENT Cur.Closed_Month, Cur.Closed_Year, Cur.Incidents_Closed, Prev.Incidents_Closed AS PrevIncidents_Closed,

                                FROM          dbo.Incidents_Closed) YrAgo ON Cur.Closed_Month = YrAgo.PrevMonth AND Cur.Closed_Year = YrAgo.PrevYear
    What confused me is that it works fine with my previous laptop. I wonder if there is any patch in Crystal Report or SQL server that used to support certain functions but not support them anymore....
    Thanks

  • How to parse a string containing xml data

    Hi,
    Is it possible to parse a string containing xml data into a array list?
    my string contains xml data as <blood_group>
         <choice id ='1' value='A +ve'/>
         <choice id ='2' value='B +ve'/>
             <choice id ='3' value='O +ve'/>
    </blood_group>how can i get "value" into array list?

    There are lot of Java XML parsing API's available, e.g. JAXP, DOM4J, JXPath, etc.
    Of course you can also write it yourself. Look which methods the String API offers you, e.g. substring and *indexOf.

  • Converting part of the string to a date and subtract with sysdate.

    HINT! In order solve this you must know how the pnr is assembled. Study this:
    650323-5510, we only need the first six characters. They inform us about when the person (car owner) was born. In this case it is 23 Mars 1965. You have to use several oracle built-in-functions to solve this. Hint! Begin by converting part of the string to a date and subtract with sysdate.
    select to_char(to_date(cast(pnr,'YYMMDDMM'))) from car_owner;
    please what am i doing wrong. i need the result to be something like this
    Hans, Rosenboll, 59,6 years.

    Hi.
    The main problem here is you have only last two digits of year. That could be the problem in a couple of years from now, when somebody born after 2k would get in to your database. For now if we ignore this problem the right solution would be :
    <code>
    SELECT months_between(trunc(SYSDATE),
    to_date('19' || substr('650323-5510',
    1,
    6),
    'YYYYMMDD')) / 12 years_old
    FROM dual
    </code>
    Suppose you are expecting the age of the car owner as a result above code will give you that. One again notice the '19' I appended.
    Best regards.

  • Converting a java string to a date.

    I am working on extending an EO and I have a situation where I must convert a string to a date before passing it to a method. The string is in the format "DD-MON-YYYY". I am using the following code and get an error "incompatible types: found: java.util.Date, required: oracle.jbo.domain.Date". Here is the code I am using:
    try {
    SimpleDateFormat df=new SimpleDateFormat("DD-MON-YYYY");
    oracle.jbo.domain.Date expdate=df.parse(expendituredate);
    setExpenditureItemDate(expdate);
    catch (Exception err) {
    Any ideas why the code I am using is not working? Is there another way to do this?
    Mike

    The difference is that
    D Day in year
    d      Day in month
    Hence when you used 22-Feb-2007 with "DD-MMM-yyyy", it took 22 as the 22nd day of the year and overrided the month value giving you 22nd January :)
    Cheers

  • Open conversions in data dictionary

    Dear experts,
    We have been trying to install an ST-PI package in an SAP system.However,it gives a warning saying "Open conversions in data dictionary". It says - Some open conversion requests still exists for the following ABAP data dictionary objects.To avoid inconsistencies and data losses you must process these conversions first.
    Further it asks us to run the transaction SE14 which points towards the table GLPCA and says Index Z1 does not exist.
    What can be the cause behind this?I do not have an ABAP background.So,hoping if you could help me out.
    Regards,
    Minuj

    hi  sagar,
    Go to transaction SE14 and choose the following options in the menu
    DB requests --> Terminated
    Reward points if usefull,
    Thanks,

  • \0D and \0A after array to spreadsheet string conversion

    Hi guys, i currently have a VI that manipulates a couple of arrays and writes them to a config file through the config VI.
    Now, i notice 1 problem whereby after my array is comma delimited and converted into a spreadsheet string, a tab and carriage return automatically appears at the end of the string. This causes my resulting config file to have \0D and \0A to appear with my keys in the config file.
    I know it's got to be the array to spreadsheet string conversion that's causing the problem because i don't have such \0D and \0A problem with keys without the conversion.
    How do i solve this?

    The OD and OA are the carriage return and line feed and yes the functona always appends these characters at the end of each line. Probably because this function is normally used to create files that a spreadsheet can read. There are several ways to remove the extra characters. Shown below is the string reversed and the String Subset function uses an offset of two. The output of that is reversed to get a string without the CR and LF. Also shown is getting the string length, subtracting 2 and wiring that to the length input of the String Subset function.
