Stutter when playing AVI-files

I have problem when playing AVI-files on my computer, they are stutter when they plays. The problem arises with a wide range of media players.
The problem started about 2 month ago. Before this time the same file(s) where playing OK!
The same file(s) are playing OK on other computers (tested today)...
I'm having a Satellite Pro M30, running XP pro SP2.
I have tried every thing I can come up with without ant success:
Uninstalled almost every program.
Checked for virus.
Checked for Spy-wares.
Shutdown all unnecessary processes.
Defragment the HD.
Help is wanted

Hello
It is very strange. I have had similar situation but with all formats avi, mpg and even while watching DVDs but it was caused by my antivir application. The application has raised CPU usage and watching movies was not possible.
Believe me I have removed this stupid application and now it works well again. Now I use other small antivir guard application. I am very happy now.
Bye

  • Cannot get any sound when playing .avi files

    Hi All
I am running QT version 6.5.3 on Mac OS X 10.2.8 and cannot get any sound when playing .avi files but the picture is perfect.
I have installed the following: M-Peg 2 playback component, AVI Components and AC3 component.
Does anyone know if I am missing anything or how I can fix this?
    Many thanks
    Garry

Download and install Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs. In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

  • No sound when playing AVI file

I've looked through the forum and downloaded Perian and DivX and tried deleting the DivX files out of the Quicktime folder, but still no sound when playing one of all my AVI files. If I click on the icon for the video, I can play it through there with sound, but when I actually open the file in Quicktime, there's no sou
    This plays sound:
But there's no sound when actually opened.

Did you try both Quicktime applications?  There is also Quicktime 7x which is located inside the Utilities folder.

  • No sound when playing .avi files

    Hi everyone,
I tried to fond the solution to this problem with the search options but didn't find anything.
I purchased Quicktime 7 Pro for windows to convert avi files for my iPhone.
At first I had troubles getting more than a black screen, but this was solved with the divx codecs. But since then I still get no sound from avi files. Even the audio half of the A/V controls are disabled... Seems it happens even with mp3 audio encoded files...
Does anyone know what codecs (?) are missing and where I have to install them ?
    Thanks for reading,
    Nicolas

  • White screen when playing .avi file

I recently upgraded to Quicktime Pro, and when I try to play a video that I downloaded, all I get is a white screen. The time counts up perfectly, but there is no picture. The same thing happened when I had just the basic quicktime.
I'm not sure if it's an issue with the quicktime, or if I need to get a new component?
If anyone could help me out with this, it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jord

The Xvid package should come with a read me that tells you where the files need to go. Also, does the movie you're trying to watch use Xvid? Get Info when you're in QuickTime Player, what codecs does it say are used by the movie?

  • My mac wont play .avi files

My macbook stopped playing .avi files that I download from the internet a few months ago.  I assumed they were just broken links, but now its past coincidence.  I have perian, and had DivX.  I removed DivX (heard the 2 clash) but still nothing works.
I thought I would get rid of Perian and try divX, but when I "removed perian" it just said "removed" and didnt actually uninstall.
I also have a bunch of other stuff that I don't use (to my knowledge), wondered if any of it was important:
    Flip4Mac
    Growl
    MacFUSE

If the AVI files are "links" that feed off streaming content, it's possible they have all been removed on the respective streaming severs by the original source, depending on their age.
With that said, Flip4Mac is the Microsoft supported plugin to allow playback of Windows Media Content inside QuickTime. You can check your version & update if needed here:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/windows-media-player/wmcompo nents
It's also possible they may be Divx encoded files. Requiring the Divx decoder plugin:
    http://divx.com
Growl & MacFUSE are generally not related to Media Files. ( Google their names )
Also, Give VLC player a try. There isn't much of anything it won't play ( actually, try this first. ):

  • Consistent crash when playing .avi f

I have a .avi file which runs for 42 sec. It worked fine until I put the latest firmware on there. Now it starts .6 seconds into it every time. What's more, if I rewind it to the start, the player bombs completely - black screen, I have to reset.
    Any ideas why..

Downgrade your firmware. Convert your avi to wmv using ZEN Media Explorer. I think it cause by the firmware, it happen to me, when i play avi file, it keep exiting while the movioe doesnt finish playing or sometimes it freeze when the avi movie is almost finish. But in playing wmv it doesnt have any problem.

  • Can´t play avi files

I used to play AVI files on my Mac and Mac Book Pro but recently anything change that I can't play the same or new AVI files. I used to play it on Power Point presentations but right now I can't play with Quick Time. I can do it with VLC and also in other new Mac Book Pro with the same OS (10.8). What happen, anybody knows?

Finally I found the problem. It was related to the DivX soft. My new .AVI files doesn't play (neither Quick Time nor embedded in Power Point presentations) because any conflict with DivX. When I uninstalling the program all my .AVI files returned to play normally.

  • Quicktime 10.1 not playing .avi files

My quicktime player isn't playing .avi files properly. I have perian installed and have been playing .avi files on my MacBook Pro fine now for over 2 years. However, I resently installed Lion and it doesn't seem to be working now. I've looked around and it seems there are some bugs with Perian and Lion, however I haven't seen mine. Quicktimes loads, loads the video, I can click anywhere on the timeline and see the video, however when I hit play, it immediately pauses itself and won't play. Sometimes it will play very brieftly, about 1/10 of a second, and then flicker back to paused. Is there any other integrated solution to Perian? Was hoping to not have to get VLC player.

I had this same problem and someone on here helped me solve it.
As stated, I did not have any problem and could not duplicate the original poster's problem.
See if you have DIVX For Mac installed.
Negative. I do not have any DivX components installed and am using Perian for playback. AVI (DivX5/MP3) files were created using Visual Hub under Snow Leopard. And, if I cannot get Visual Hub to work under Lion (PPC version is not Lion compatible), then I will drop AVI altogether since I only use it to send my sister clips.

  • Cant play .avi files in Lumia

Hi, iam using Lumia 520 and i can't play .avi files on my Lumia.... I read that .avi format is supported in 520,but iam unable ... So kindly please help me....

    Hi aadhi07,
Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions!
Where did you get the .avi files and what's the error message when trying to play it? Does this happen to all .avi files or in some .avi files only?
Upon checking, the Lumia 520 supports .avi, however it can only play a maximum of 720p.
    Cheers!

  • Playing avi files in iTunes

I would like to be able to use iTunes and my iPod touch to play .avi files saved saved to my pc from a canon digital camera. There is an option to open the video file using itunes but when I select that option, iTunes simply opens and nothing else happens. Similarly when I sync photos to my iPod touch, the video files are ignored despite my selecting the "include videos" option. Any ideas?

itunes and ipods won't play avi files. Use handbrake or something similar to convert them to a supported format.

  • What extra component do I need for QT Player in order to play AVI files?

The QT 7.7.3 manual sez it plays AVI but when I try to do that very thing, a window pops up and says I need to add some extra special components (surprise!). When I come here to the Appbull site, the list of components offered does not specify which component it actually is. No doubt Appbull is hoping I will simply download them all! However, I'm not that kind of consumer (boo!) so if anyone actually has the actual name of the actual component I need in order to actually play AVI files on QT Player as the manual sez, pls do let me know....

AVI is a container, not a format, and it's impossible to tell just based on that. Generally, in Mac OS X, it's either Perian or a component which doesn't exist for the Mac. VLC can play some files which QuickTime can't, but won't handle everything.

  • Issues playing AVI files recoded in DVision315

Hi, I have recently been trying to play AVI files on my ibook. I finally found came across DVision315 which allowed me to re-encode the AVI files. During the re-encoding process I was able to view the mpegs, no problem. However, when i finished re-encoding the files and saved them onto my harddrive I have found that everytime I try to open them Quicktime completely crashes. I get a message telling me to file a service report. Why is Quicktime doing this? I have Quicktime Pro> Any ideas? Solutions?
    Thanks

Do you have the proper versions of the DivX codec installed? The newest (version 6) was released yesterday. The older version are incompatible with Tiger and QT 7.
