SubFolders and Folders in Librar View

When I look the the Library, all the pictures appears "Flat" even the subfolder' one.
Is it possible to see the subfolder inside the folders like with bridge ?
PS: Sorry for my english...

In LR 1.1 there is a new option in the Library menu: "Include Folders from Subitems".
If it is checked, you see a "flat view" of a folder and its subfolders. If it is unchecked, each folder's view is independent.
Try the option both ways and see if it solves your problem.

  • Can i delete the files and folders in Libraries Cashe

    Hi,
I was wondering if someone could tell me if it is safe to delete all the files and folders from the
    Libraries >> Cashe
I have moved all of the files and folders into a new folder and my iMac still seems to run fine, but I dont want to restart it until I know that it really is safe to delete all these files and folders

Yes I did mean the Caches sorry I wasn't paying attention to what I was typing and made a pretty major typo. Yes i was trying to dingoes a problem with my videos that I embed in iWeb showing fine in iWeb but now been able to load in Safari. I thought I had this problem fixed but it turned out that I didn't have.
I thought that if i deleted the Caches then the computer would just rebuild them and that might solve the problem, its pretty much a last resort though as I have already looked at the settings and everything and been on the phone to apple tech support and all the settings are correct they are just not showing. The theory was that maybe a half loaded video had some how managed to prevent a the videos from displaying properly and so I thought that rebuilding the caches would solve this problem.

  • Note:  Mail.app and Folders with Dovecot - Copying Folders w Subfolders

I found a problem with Apple Mail regarding folder creation with the new Dovecot Server...
Say you import some mail from Eudora or some other mail client, and you have folders with no messages, only subfolders (or mailboxes if you want to call them that). The mailbox on "My Mac" appears white instead of blue, and you can see the subfolders just fine and everything looks great. Drag that folder (the white one with subfolders) to your IMAP account to copy it to the server. It will copy just fine. Now try to rename or delete that white folder you just copied to the server. You will get the following error:
For this example I will call the problem folder "TestFolder"
The IMAP command RENAME (or DELETE if you try to delete) (to TestFolder) failed with the server error: Mailbox does not exist: TestFolder
    The problem is this:
Dovecot creates folders and subfolders as separate directories on the server:
    .TestFolder
    .TestFolder.TestSubFolder1
    .TestFolder.TestSubFolder2
In the above example, there is a folder (or mailbox) called TestFolder with two folders inside it, TestSubFolder1, and TestSubFolder2. This example is the correct way to create a folder with dovecot, or if not "correct", at least you can delete or rename the "TestFolder" without an error.
What happens with Apple Mail (Mail.app), is that when you drag a white folder to the server, it would create the following:
    .TestFolder.TestSubFolder1
    .TestFolder.TestSubFolder2
Notice the root folder .TestFolder is missing. This is why you get the error message noted above. If you create .TestFolder in the directory, chmod 700 .TestFolder and chown <username> .TestFolder, you can rename or delete the problem folder (notice it turns blue as well). This gets rather annoying when dealing with multiple folders/subfolders, and is not a real graceful way of dealing with the situation.
Apparently there is some intended difference with the white folders and blue folders, in that blue folders can contain messages but white folders can only contain other folders. Great, but Mail.app needs to somehow create the folder on the server in a way that is compatible with Dovecot.
If someone has a developer account (mine keeps complaining that there is missing information, but there is no missing information and won't let me log in), could you post this as a bug report? I'll deal with my developer account later...
    Thanks.

    > It's not that they don't show up in Mail. In Mail, they are in their
(manually) sorted folders. On the server they are in BOTH their
sorted folder, AND the main inbox where they first appeared.
Yes, but what I’m saying is that, according to your reports, even after rebuilding the Inbox of the .Mac account that has the problem, there are still messages in that mailbox on the server that don’t show up in Mail in that same mailbox. Is that correct? This is what doesn’t make sense to me...
    > Mac-mydotmacusername1
    Mac-mydotmacusername2
    [email protected]
So you have two .Mac accounts and a POP account. You hadn’t mentioned this before, had you? I got the impression that you only had one .Mac account...
Which account has the problem, i.e. for which account there are messages on the server’s Inbox that don’t show up in Mail even after rebuilding that mailbox? Are you moving messages from a .Mac account’s Inbox to custom mailboxes of that same account or to mailboxes associated with the other .Mac account?
    <hr>
Try this to determine the scope of the problem:
    1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts and create a new user account for testing purposes.
    2. Either log out of your main user account or just quit Mail so that it does not interfere with the other user account.
    3. Log in as the newly created user and set up Mail anew there.
    4. For spam-related security reasons, go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    5. If you set up a POP account, go to Preferences > Accounts > Advanced and disable Remove copy from server after retrieving a message if it’s enabled, to avoid messages being accidentally removed from the server while testing.
    6. Check whether the problem also happens when logged in as another user.

  • Desktop like view of files and folders using Swing

I have an application for upload/download of files from a server. The application is developed using swing and it works perfectly. Currently, the files and folders are displayed in a table view(using jtable) in which the file/ folder will be displayed with icon and extension in each row.
I need to display these files and folders in a desktop like view. How can I implement this?
    Anees

Any sample demos or links? Thats why people give you links to the Swing tutorial. The hope is that you will actually look at the Table of Contents and read the tutorial before you post a question.
Or you could even read the JList API to find a link to the tutorial.

  • Folder Options - View Hidden Files and Folders

    Hello,
On this same laptop, there seems to be an issue with *Folder Options - View Hidden Files and Folders.*
Each time i "check" that option to View - then i go back to verify/confirm the changes done - but the checkbox is "unchecked" again. Despite clicking on Apply and Ok to save the changes! The changes are never saved..
I have used other laptops for this same option and it all worked fine.
Please advise whether i need to apply or amend other settings for this to work?
    Regards.

    Hi
    > Therefore, i doubt the antivirus program is the causal factor here..
    I wouldnt say so.
I mean normally Bitdefender shouldnt cause such a problem thats right but theoretically its possible. Such security software programs are really good and necessary on every computer with internet connection but due the high security it could maybe blocks some changes from Windows.
In my opinion its worth a try to test it without Bitdefender. Alternative you can use AntiVir (freeware) and the Windows firewall. In my opinion a really good freeware solution.

  • How do I resort files and folders by name in Column View of Finder when Arrange by Name doesn't work?

I was using the arrange by function to select different arrangements of the files and folders in Finder (column view) but now that I want to return to having them arranged by Name, it is not rearranging the files/folders by name.  Instead they stay in a totally random, non-alphabetical arrangement.  List view sorts without issue by clicking on the column header. It is column view that will not return to arranging by name.  Please help me figure out what is wrong.
    Thank you!

Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility, reboot the computer in Safe Mode then restart normally and test.

  • Authorization for Variants, Views and Folders

    Hi SDN'ers,
How can you manage the edit restrictions on a variant, view and folders? I mean how can you make sure certain users dont change or delete a variant for example? This has to do with authorizations and the role where you publish it in.. but i don't know the full details about it.
    Thanks.

The easiest way to discover what's being checked is to perform the actions you mention with a user that has sufficient authorizations, while tracing the user with ST01 (here you can perform a trace on authorizations, except for all the query display authorizations wich you can check with rsecadmin).
In this way you can see exactly wich objects and values are being checked and thus you should be able to discover the objects and values that you need (if available).

  • Files and folders doesn't show up in Web File Viewer

Hi all, My first post here, so please bear with me. After I received my EX2 I've been looking for an easy way to provide friends and family with access to my NAS so they can up/download vacation pictures and movies without having to install anything. I've run through this guide: http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-My-Cloud-EX2/Web-Access-using-browser-only/td-p/705824/page/2 (big thanks to Mikey Soft) And after reading this thread: http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-My-Cloud-EX2/Dashboard-Web-File-Viewer/td-p/785671 I got really excited. While logged in as admin, I'm able to do all the stuff I want to under Apps --> Web File Viewer. Browse all folders, up/download, rename, etc. But when I'm logged in as another user, I'm not able to even see the shared folders. There's absolutely nothing under the Web File Viewer tab. It only loads for a short while (please wait shows up) and then the site is blank. (screen shot here:  http://EliNAS.device2284223.wd2go.com:80/api/1.0/rest/file_contents/Public/Shared%20Pictures/Web%20file%20viewer.png?device_user_id=14852387&request_auth_code=b940ac7e734118bcd1dbabdcaf172015986dc32e603c9cc056b89e5663f748f5 ) Could anyone point me in the direction of a fix for this? When trying to login with a non-admin user through the iOS or Android app all shared files and folders are there, so it only seems to be a problem with Web File Viewer.

Hi there and welcome to the WD community.
Try to do a system restore on the unit to see if this maked the web file viewer since this should be available on any users dashboard. This link Might help you with the procedure on the unit hope it helps: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10433

  • Folders, Subfolders, and Other Featural Miscellany

    Hi!
First of all, I must say (as I'm sure many have said before me) that the graphic interface of Adobe Buzzword is excellent -- simple, uncluttered, and quite sleek. I am a great admirer of design aesthetics, and in this aspect Buzzword has no peer. :O)
However, I do find myself missing a few features that I've gotten used to with, say, Google Docs and in Microsoft Word as well:
    1) Subfolders -- I notice that with Buzzword I'm able to create folders within my personal workspace, but I cannot create any subfolders (and sub-subfolders, etc.), which constitutes, I think, a significant cost in convenience given my organizational preferences. (For instance, if I create a folder called "UChicago Essays" I will of course want to further categorize them according to subject/course, and further according to semester. Buzzword, however, does not allow me to do this, and the best I can do is make separate folders for each subject.)
    2) Creating and saving a new document -- When I want to create a new document I typically want to save it in the current folder I'm in, and it would be excellent if Buzzword could implement a feature that allows users the option of doing this (rather than having to return to the main page and dragging it to the folder).
    3) Superscripts/subscripts -- Considering how much I rely on footnotes, it would be really nice if Buzzword supported the use of these symbols.
    4) Font support -- I realize this is a minor quibble, and frankly I'm quite fond of the seven fonts provided, but additional fonts would be very useful (Times New Roman, Arial, Verdana, Georgia, etc.)!
    5) Paragraph support -- single-, 1.5-, and double-spaced usually do it for me, but there are always the occasions when I'd like, say, 1.25 spacing...
    6) Zooming -- Another very minor quibble, but is it possible to save one's zooming preferences? They seem to always revert to the standard 100% when I reopen a file that I've closed and saved. On a similar but slightly unrelated note, is it also possible to center align the entire document? (As it is, the document is framed by a very nice background, but it is skewed to the left with quite a bit of blank/wasted space at the right, so it would be excellent if I could somehow move the entire page rightward, as Word documents usually look.)
The addition of more advanced features, I trust, shall go a long way towards improving the versatility, accessibility, and user-friendliness of Buzzword (and consequently, perhaps, its market power!).
Thanks for listening! Suffice to say, I hope my suggestions (especially the first two) will be taken into account and that, before long, users will be able to create as many subfolders as they desire, among the other things I've outlined above.
    Yours sincerely,
    R.

Only folders with music files in show up on your player - you could put a small dummy music file into each of the higher level folders. Record 2 seconds of silence as a WAV file and then convert it to an mp3. Put a copy of it in each folder you want to see.
To shuffle in all folders use Shuffle Repeat or Shuffle Once modes.

  • Remove permissions for a security group for all files and folders in a folder and all subfolders?

I found a script that adds rights to files and folders.
We need to grant administrators rights to a set of folders for a specific project.
    ChangePermissions.ps1
    # CACLS rights are usually
    # F = FullControl
    # C = Change
    # R = Readonly
    # W = Write
    $StartingDir=
    "C:\Users"
    $Principal="Administrators"
    $Permission="F"
$Verify=Read-Host `n "You are about to change permissions
    on all" `
    "files starting at"$StartingDir.ToUpper() `n "for security"`
    "principal"$Principal.ToUpper() `
    "with new right of"$Permission.ToUpper()"."`n `
"Do you want to continue? [Y,N]"
    if ($Verify -eq "Y") {
    foreach ($file in $(Get-ChildItem $StartingDir -recurse)) {
    #display filename and old permissions
    write-Host -foregroundcolor Yellow $file.FullName
#uncomment if you want to see old permissions
    #CACLS $file.FullName
    #ADD new permission with CACLS
    CACLS $file.FullName /E /P "${Principal}:${Permission}" >$NULL
    #display new permissions
    Write-Host -foregroundcolor Green "New Permissions"
    CACLS $file.FullName
When the project is over, we need to undo the changes and remove administrators permissions from the same group of folders.
How do we change the script to remove administrators group members instead of adding?

I'm not sure I understand how to use that example script to undo the changes in the script I posted..
Is there  a way to just change a few lines in the first script so that it removes instead of adding the administrators group?
This line appears to be the line that adds permissions:
    #ADD new permission with CACLS
    CACLS $file.FullName /E /P "${Principal}:${Permission}" >$NULL
What would be the syntax to remove the  permissions
    $Principal="Administrators"
    $Permission="F"
from files and folders in $StartingDir= "C:\Users"
    and everything below it?

  • Auditing failed access to files and folders in Windows Storage Server 2008 R2

    Hello,
I've been trying to figure out why I cannot audit the failed access to files and folders on my server.  I'm trying to replace a unix-based NAS with a Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 solution so I can use my current audit tools (the 'nix NAS
has basically none).  I'm looking for a solution for a small remote office with 5-10 users and am looking at Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 (no props yet, but on a Buffalo appliance).  I specifically need to audit the failure of a user to access
folders and files they are not supposed to view, but on this appliance it never shows.  I have:
Enabled audit Object access for File system, File share and Detailed file share
Set the security of the top-level share to everyone full control
Used NTFS file permissions to set who can/cannot see particular folders
On those folders (and letting those permissions flow down) I've set the auditing tab to "Fail - Everyone - Full Control - This folder, subfolders and files"
On the audit log I only see "Audit Success" messages for items like "A network share object was checked to see whether client can be granted desired access (Event 5145) - but never a failure audit (because this user was not allowed access by NTFS permissions).
I've done this successfully with Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 w/SP1 and am wondering if anybody has tried this with the Windows Storage Server version (with success of course).  My customer wants an inexpensive "appliance" and I thought this new
variant of 2008 was the ticket, but I can't if it won't provide this audit.
Any thoughts? Any of you have luck with this?  I am (due to the fact I bought this appliance out of my own pocket) using the WSS "Workgroup" flavor and am wondering if this feature has been stripped from the workgroup edition of WSS.
    TIA,
    --Jeffrey

    Hi Jeffrey,
The steps to setup Audit on a WSS system should be the same as a standard version of Windows Server. So please redo the steps listed below to see if issue still exists:
Enabling file auditing is a 2-step process.
[1] Configure "audit object access" in AD Group Policy or on the server's local GPO. This setting is located under Computer Configuration-->Windows Settings-->Security Settings-->Local Policies-->Audit Policies. Enable success/failure auditing
    for "Audit object access."
[2] Configure an audit entry on the specific folder(s) that you wish to audit. Right-click on the folder-->Properties-->Advanced. From the Auditing tab, click Add, then enter the users/groups whom you wish to audit and what actions you wish to audit
    - auditing Full Control will create an audit entry every time anyone opens/changes/closes/deletes a file, or you can just audit for Delete operations.

  • New files and folders on a Linux client mounting a Windows 2012 Server for NFS share do not inherit Owner and Group when SetGID bit set

    Problem statement
When I mount a Windows NFS service file share using UUUA and set the Owner and Group, and set the SetGID bit on the parent folder in a hierarchy. New Files and folders inside and underneath the parent folder do not inherit the Owner and Group permissions
    of the parent.
I am given to understand from this Microsoft KnowledgeBase article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951716/en-gb) the problem is due to the Windows implmentation of NFS Services not supporting the Solaris SystemV or BSD grpid "Semantics"
However the article says the same functionality can acheived by using ACE Inheritance in conjunction with changing the Registry setting for "KeepInheritance" to enable Inheritance propagation of the Permissions by the Windows NFS Services.
    1. The Precise location of the "KeepInheritance" DWORD key appears to have "moved" in  Windows Server 2012 from a Services path to a Software path, is this documented somewhere? And after enabling it, (or creating it in the previous
location) the feature seems non-functional. Is there a method to file a Bug with Microsoft for this Feature?
    2. All of the references on demonstrating how to set an ACE to achieve the same result "currently" either lead to broken links on Microsoft technical websites, or are not explicit they are vague or circumreferential. There are no plain Examples.
    Can an Example be provided?
    3. Is UUUA compatible with the method of setting ACE to acheive this result, or must the Linux client mount be "Mapped" using an Authentication source. And could that be with the new Flat File passwd and group files in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
and is there an Example available.
    Scenario:
    Windows Server 2012 Standard
    File Server (Role)
+- Server for NFS (Role) << -- installed
    General --
    Folder path: F:\Shares\raid-6-array
    Remote path: fs4:/raid-6-array
    Protocol: NFS
    Authentication --
    No server authentication
    +- No server authentication (AUTH_SYS)
    ++- Enable unmapped user access
+++- Allow unmapped user access by UID/GID
    Share Permissions --
    Name: linux_nfs_client.host.edu
    Permissions: Read/Write
    Root Access: Allowed
    Encoding: ANSI
    NTFS Permissions --
    Type: Allow
    Principal: BUILTIN\Administrators
    Access: Full Control
    Applies to: This folder only
    Type: Allow
    Principal: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    Access: Full Control
    Applies to: This folder only
    -- John Willis, Facebook: John-Willis, Skype: john.willis7416

I'm making some "major" progress on this problem.
    1. Apparently the "semantics" issue to honor SGID or grpid in NFS on the server side or the client side has been debated for some time. It also existed as of 2009 between Solaris nfs server and Linux nfs clients. The Linux community defaulted to declaring
it a "Server" side issue to avoid "Race" conditions between simultaneous access users and the local file system daemons. The client would have to "check" for the SGID and reformulate its CREATE request to specify the Secondary group it would have to "notice"
by which time it could have changed on the server. SUN declined to fix it.. even though there were reports it did not behave the same between nfs3 vs nfs4 daemons.. which might be because nfs4 servers have local ACL or ACE entries to process.. and a new local/nfs
"inheritance" scheme to worry about honoring.. that could place it in conflict with remote access.. and push the responsibility "outwards" to the nfs client.. introducing a race condition, necessitating "locking" semantics.
This article covers that discovery and no resolution - http://thr3ads.net/zfs-discuss/2009/10/569334-CR6894234-improved-sgid-directory-compatibility-with-non-Solaris-NFS-clients
    2. A much Older Microsoft Knowledge Based article had explicit examples of using Windows ACEs and Inheritance to "mitigate" the issue.. basically the nfs client "cannot" update an ACE to make it "Inheritable" [-but-] a Windows side Admin or Windows User
[-can-] update or promote an existing ACE to "Inheritable"
Here are the pertinent statements -
"In Windows Services for UNIX 2.3, you can use the KeepInheritance registry value to set inheritable ACEs and to make sure that these ACEs apply to newly created files and folders on NFS shares."
"Note About the Permissions That Are Set by NFS Clients
The KeepInheritance option only applies ACEs that have inheritance enabled. Any permissions that are set by an NFS client will
only apply to that file or folder, so the resulting ACEs created by an NFS client will
    not have inheritance set."
    "So
If you want a folder's permissions to be inherited to new subfolders and files, you must set its permissions from the Windows NFS server because the permissions that are set by NFS clients only apply to the folder itself."
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321049
    3. I have set up a Windows 2008r2 NFS server and mounted it with a Redhat Enteprise Linux 5 release 10 x86_64 server [Oct 31, 2013] and so far this does appear to be the case.
    4. In order to mount and then switch user to a non-root user to create subdirectories and files, I had to mount the NFS share (after enabling Anonymous AUTH_SYS mapping) this is not a good thing, but it was because I have been using UUUA - Unmapped Unix
User Access Mapping, which makes no attempt to "map" a Unix UID/GID set by the NFS client to a Windows User account.
To verify the Inheritance of additional ACEs on new subdirectories and files created by a non-root Unix user, on the Windows NFS server I used the right click properties, security tab context menu, then Advanced to list all the ACEs and looked at the far
Column reflecting if it applied to [This folder only, or This folder and Subdirectories, or This folder and subdirectories and files]
    5. All new Subdirectories and files createdby the non-root user had a [Non-Inheritance] ACE created for them.
    6. I turned a [Non-Inheritance] ACE into an [Inheritance] ACE by selecting it then clicking [Edit] and using the Drop down to select [This folder, subdirs and files] then I went back to the NFS client and created more subdirs and files. Then back to the
Windows NFS server and checked the new subdirs and folders and they did Inherit the Windows NFS server ACE! - However the UID/GID of the subdirs and folders remained unchanged, they did not reflect the new "Effective" ownership or group membership.
    7. I "believe" because I was using UUUA and working "behind" the UID/GID presentation layer for the NFS client, it did not update that presentation layer. It might do that "if" I were using a Mapping mechanism and mapped UID/GID to Windows User SIDs and
Group SIDs. Windows 2008r2 no longer has a "simple" Mapping server, it does not accept flat text files and requires a Schema extension to Active Directory just to MAP a windows account to a UID/GID.. a lot of overhead. Windows Server 2012 accepts flat text
files like /etc/passwd and /etc/group to perform this function and is next on my list of things to see if that will update the UID/GID based on the Windows ACE entries. Since the Local ACE take precedence "over" Inherited ACEs there could be a problem. The
Inheritance appears to be intended [only] to retain Administrative rights over user created subdirs and files by adding an additional ACE at the time of creation.
    8. I did verify from the NFS client side in Linux that "Even though" the UID/GID seem to reflect the local non-root user should not have the ability to traverse or create new files, the "phantom" NFS Server ACEs are in place and do permit the function..
reconciling the "view" with "reality" appears problematic, unless the User Mapping will update "effective" rights and ownership in the "view"

  • In PSE 11 how to import photos to the organizer from the computer files and folders

While using the restore function in PSE 11 (Windows 8), using a catalog backup from PSE 8 (Windows XP), a number of images could not be restored. To try to link to the images in their actual  location, I tried the following:
    1. I used the File Get function, browsed to the images and did a Get Media. Upon completion, the thumbnails automatically displayed in the organizer.
    2. For reasons I do not understand, the path, where these photos actually reside, displayed in a separate part of the tree view (just below the tree view created from the restore operation.) rather than in the restored tree view.
I tried to drag them to the location where they should be, but that did not work.
I noticed that when I did the get photos from files and folders, I saw no way to designate where the photos were to be linked to in the tree view. (Such as is the case when you get photos from a camera.)
I tried to find instructions on how to get photos from files and folders, to see where I am going wrong but had no luck.
Can anyone explain what is going wrong and how I can correct it?
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your response. Based on my understanding of your comments I tried the following:
    1. In the main tree view, I deleted the sub-folder which should have contained the files that failed to restore (SF1). Then I dragged the sub-folder in the separate tree structure (SF2) to the  location SF1.  This did not work; I got the message: A folder with the same name already exists at the requested location. When I opened the folder containing SF1 and selected: Show all SubFolders, SF1 was not deleted.
    2. I then tried to drag the images in SF2 to SF1. This too did not work; the images stayed in SF2.
    3. In SF1, I right clicked and selected: Import Media. This did not work; I got the message: Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the catalog.
I have to assume that I either did not correctly understand your comments or that their is more at play than I realize. Could you explain why each of my attempts failed and what should I be doing to move folders, sub-folders and/or images within the organizer tree view?
    Thanks for your consideration.

  • Changing all folders to List view in Finder: How to?

I'm trying to accomplish what I assumed would be a simple task...
I want the view of every folder, when opened in the Finder, to be List view. All new folders... all the existing folders... everything.
I want it to forget all about any current settings or other defaults, and force everything into List view.
Is this possible? I'm perfectly willing to dive into the Terminal to delete .DS_Store files or perform whatever brutality needs to occur.
    Thanks!

    Derek,
Ah, I think I see your problem now. Actually, you are dreaming of the one thing that is, in fact, difficult. You see, every new folder is created (and will always be created, no matter what we do) with Icon View set as the default. This can be overidden by selecting "Always open in Column View," which doesn't necessarily force every window to open that way, but goes a long way towards achieving that end (over time, it works).
Forcing every window into list view is a little more difficult. It is simple enough to make all of your own folders show this view, as only a single "tease" should be necessary for a folder that you own (you can just get in the habit of making this change each time a new folder is created, which normally isn't that often for most of us). Any changes we make to our own folders should "stick" as a matter of course.
The problem is getting all of the root-owned folders to which we navigate frequently to do the same. You probably went a long way toward achieving that end by simply deleting all of the .DS_Store files. The .DS_Store file for a particular folder will be owned by the first user to navigate that folder in the Finder. If that user is you, you will own the file, not root. So, having deleted those files, you gave yourself the opportunity to "assume control" of those directories. Keep in mind that if the folder is owned by root, with a group ownership of "admin," you must be an admin user to be able to write a .DS_Store file to that directory. I assume that you are using an admin account(??).
At this point, I would suggest that you just start navigating your file system and changing directories. If you did not do so as root after having deleted the .DS_Store files, you should be able to make the necessary changes as yourself. Provided you have assumed control of the .DS_Store files, you should only have to make changes once.
Of course, you will still have to click that little button one time for each new folder you create. Apple has gone a long way toward making the interface as flexible as possible (nobody else does it as well, mind you), but as they say, "you can't make everybody happy all of the time." It is an ideal only to be strived for, never to be reached.

  • How do I get Firefox to show hidden files and folders. It should be available under help but help only gets as far as Open Containing folder and doesn't go on to show hidden files and folders

I am trying to find the status of Adobe Flash Player on my computer. I am advised that it exists in Firefox's hidden files and folders but I cannot find such a folder

You have an older version of Flash installed - Shockwave Flash 10.0 r45
You can see that for yourself in Tools > Addons > Plugins
"Show hidden files and folders" is a function of the Operating System, not an application such as Firefox. Windows Control Panel > Folder Options > View - Advanced Settings
