Submenu Alignment

Hello,
I've been working with the customization of a horizaontal drop down menu, and I have it exactly how I want it except for one thing: the submenus are currently dropping down slightly to the right of the parent menu, and I would like them to drop directly underneath so that each menu has the same center.
You can see an example of the offset menus here (ignore the poor spacing, this is a dummy): http://new.physics.tamu.edu/header2
Any help would be greatley appreciated - I'm sure I'm just overlooking something. Thanks!
Code:
ul.MenuBarHorizontal
    list-style-type: none;
    font-size: 100%;
    cursor: default;
    width: 900px;
    height: 28px;
    margin-top: 0;
    margin-right: 0px;
    margin-bottom: 0;
    margin-left: 9px;
    padding-top: 6;
    padding-right: 0;
    padding-bottom: 0;
    padding-left: 0;
ul.MenuBarActive
    z-index: 1000;
ul.MenuBarHorizontal li
    list-style-type: none;
    font-size: 13pt;
    position: relative;
    text-align: center;
    cursor: pointer;
    width: auto;
    float: left;
    padding-top: 0;
    padding-right: 5;
    padding-bottom: 0;
    padding-left: 5;
    margin-right: 13px;
    margin-left: 13px;
    background-color: transparent;
ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    list-style-type: none;
    font-size: 100%;
    z-index: 1020;
    cursor: default;
    width: 100 px;
    position: absolute;
    left: -1000em;
ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible
    left: auto;
ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul li
    width: auto;
ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul ul
    position: absolute;
ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible
    left: auto;
    top: 0;

If you read the comments in the style sheet you will notice that something has gone haywire. Just look at this
/* The outermost container of the Menu Bar, an auto width box with no margin or padding */
ul.MenuBarHorizontal
    list-style-type: none;
    font-size: 100%;
    cursor: default;
    width: 900px;
    height: 28px;
    margin-top: 0;
    margin-right: 0px;
    margin-bottom: 0;
    margin-left: 9px;
    padding-top: 6;
    padding-right: 0;
    padding-bottom: 0;
    padding-left: 0;

  • Horizontal Spry Submenu Alignment Problems

    I am experiencing a massive emotional low with not being able to figure this problem out.
    I have incorporated a Spry menu in the site I'm building, but I'm having trouble getting the
    drop down submenu to align properly in Firefox/ Chrome AND IE8
    What seems to be the heart of the problem is the CSS for the Spry class "ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible"
    By default, it's set to this:
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible
    left: auto;
    If I leave it like this, the submenus drop down where I want them to (upon rollover) - with the left edge
    of the submenu aligned with the parent button (ul li item). However this only works properly in Chrome / Firefox.
    If I use IE8 to look at the site. The submenus drop down such that the left edge of submenu aligns
    with the the center of the partent button (ul li item) upon rollover.
    I can get IE to overcome this alignment issue by adding "position:relative" to the CSS for "ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible"
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible
    left: auto;
    position:relative
    After making this addition, IE8 works fine, and the submenus align to the left. But now, if I browse in Chrome
    or Firefox, the 1px border of the submenus do not appear on the left, right and bottom edges. It's only there
    for the top edge???!!!??
    It seems that the property listed below gets compromised and does not work if I add the "position:relative" attribute
    to "ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible"
    /* Submenu containers have borders on all sides */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul
    border: 1px solid #CCC;
    If anyone can offer and explanation to this I would be hugely appreciative.
    Thanks so much,
    Hosanna_Bizarre

    Please find the html and css attached.
    Yes, I have used text-align: center on the main menu.
    Like I say, adding position:relative to the css for "ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible"
    fixes the problem for IE and it displays left justified submenu items underneath a center-aligned
    main menu button.
    Problem is the submenu borders do not display properly any more for Chrome / Firefox.
    Thanks
    H

  • Horizontal Menu Submenu alignment

    Problem: how to change the top alignment of a submunu list so
    that it aligns with the top of the first choice in the parent menu
    listing. ??
    Presently "top=0" in CSS puts the top edge of the child
    submenu list in line with the top line of the selected choice of
    the parent menu. What I would like to do is align the child top
    line to the top line of the first choice in the parent menu no
    matter what item in the parent menu is selected.
    The top= -20px (or a percent or whatever value) will move the
    location of the child menu up relative to the top line of the
    selected parent item, but I would like to reference the location of
    all submenu to the top line of the first listed choice of the
    parent menu. How can I do that? Is it possible?

    Thank you for your feedback.
    Basically, the SpryMenuBar is a very well thought out widget, catering for all modern browsers. The HTML is the same as for other well designed menubars, the JS ensures that the submenus work in the different browsers and the CSS is partially very similar to other menubars and partially there to service the JS.
    Having said that the SpryMenuBar is a very delicately balanced widget mainly because of the differences in browser interpretation.
    The problems arise when people not in the know, start to unbalance the menu by unwittingly changing critical parts of the CSS. Have a look here to see what I mean http://www.dwcourse.com/dreamweaver/ten-commandments-spry-menubars.php#one
    For more info on what you are looking for, have a look here for auto width http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/menubar/AutoWidthHorizontalMenuBarSample.h tml and here for centering the menubar http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/menubar/CenteringHorizontalMenuBarSample.h tml
    SpryMenuBar v2 makes it easier for newbies to style the menubar, I tend to stick to the original menu.

  • Submenu Bug in Adobe Muse?

    I created a horizontal menu using the Widget Library. When I view my trial site in the Goolge Chrome browser scaled at 100% everything is rendered correctly. The submenu's align accordingly with their top level menu. The problem arises when I change the browser's view by either scaling up or down. For instance, when I hover my cursor over a top level menu that has a submenu and zoom in at 125% (meanwhile my cursor remains hovered/rollovered on the same top level menu), its corresponding submenu misaligns and shifts to the far right. If i zoom out at 90%, under the same circumstances, the submenu once again misaligns and shifts to the left.
    My menu Options are as follows:
    Menu Type: All Pages
    Direction: Horizontal
    Edit Together (checkmarked)
    Item Size: Uniform Size
    Show Left Icon: Off
    Show Label: On
    Show Right Icon: Off
    Parts Positioning: Horizontally; Center-Aligned
    In Google Chrome scaleld at 100%. The submenu aligns appropriately below its parent menu.
    In this screenshot, my cursor remains rollovered the About Us top level menu meanwhile I zoom in to 125%.
    The About Us's submenu is no longer aligned with its parent menu.
    Instead the submenu shifts comletely to the right.
    Zoomed out at 90%.
    My cursor is still rollovered the About Us menu and its submenu shifts left.
    At first I thought that I must have had my settings misconfigured, I've tried numerous changes and none seem to fix the issue. I've also taken a look at other user's websites which they have created in Adobe Muse and low and behold the same problem. I am surprised this issue has not been discussed as far as I can tell.
    Does anyone know of any work arounds? Even if it means having to manually create my menus. I don't mind having to manually link my pages. This has been really bugging me and I would like to find a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
    If you go to the menu options in design view and check the menu type, do you see "all pages" in there? If yes, then republish the site and see if that resolves the issue.

  • BUG - SpryMenu Bar submenu

    I've posted a page that is using default styles from the
    menubar spry widget. I've not monkeyed with this code at all, just
    renamed the .css and .js files to make links work without screwing
    up entire site. This is version 1.6.1.
    The submenu on this page is aligned with the top of the
    parent menu instead of next to it's parent item in the main menu
    (Item 3). When you mouse over Item 3, the submenu appears at it's
    correct location. There seems to be a problem with how IE7 handles
    the MenuBarSubmenuVisible class. It works correctly in FF and
    Safari.
    Test Page:<
    http://www.vwc.com/ATC138_test/SpryMenuBarVert_Test.html>.
    JS:<
    http://www.vwc.com/ATC138_test/SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarTemplt.js>.
    CSS:<
    http://www.vwc.com/ATC138_test/SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarVerticalTemplt.css>.
    Spry experts, please take a look and offer a fix.
    Thanks.

    I'm having the same problem. They align to the right and the
    submenu that and the second submenu aligns about one inch away from
    the main submenu to the right.

  • Submenu positioning align left not working

    Hello,
    Is it possible to align the submenu items left when the top level is using Uniform Spacing (tried selecting the text alignment options, nothing wants to work)? You can see an example of what I've got here, under Flooring. http://www.thewebsitedeveloper.co.nz/thinkRedTest/flooringVision/  I want the submenu items to float left.
    Cheers
    Grant

    Hi Grant,
    Try these menu widget options
    1. Parts Postioning: Vertically; Left Aligned
    2. Item Size: Uniform spacing

  • How can i align submenu in Spry horizontal menu ?

    Hello everybody,
    new to spry menus but got one working in chrome, safari and ff.
    IE however is giving me problems and i can't figure it out alone anymore.
    The submenus align fine in all browsers except IE.
    There the submenus don't drop down but display to the right in one line and the
    sub-sub menus do drop down but are way off to the right of the page.
    Could someone please have a look and give me some pointers.

  • Spry menu bar woes (add submenu levels and edit width)

    So i need some spry menu bar help. Apparently as a graphic designer i'm also expected to webdesign, and while i can solve most problems with a good googling, i seem to be at  my wit's end fo this one.  So the site i'm doing has a header ith a horizontal spry pop-up menubar (in Dreamweaver CS4). But some problems arise:  when i manually add another submenu level, they don't show up in chrome or FF, they do werk perfectly in IE6. I just add the following code to the codepage:
    <li><a href="#" class="MenuBarItemSubmenu">audio equipment</a>             <ul>               <li><a href="#">Digital Matrix Systems</a></li>               <ul>               <li><a href="#">R2 Digital Audio Matrix</a></li>               </ul>               <li><a href="#">pre-amplifiers &amp; mixers</a></li>               <ul>               <li><a href="#">PMX124</a></li>               </ul>
    the PMX never pops open in FF an chrome.. Should i be adding anything else to another part of the code?  i'd like my submenu text to have a slight indent? How ever, when i add the indent to ul.menubarhorizontal ul , it elongates the submeny boxes in IE6, while looking normal (width) in chrome and FF. WHat part of the CSS style should i change to just have the text scoot over a bit without it really affecting the box layout? ALso, if anyone could tell me how to add a wee bit of spacing above the text (and beneath), i'd be eternally gratefull.  Also, how do i change the with of the submenus? seing as my main buttons are images, but the names i ned to put in my submenus are turning out to be pretty long...
    HTML code for the menu:

    Sorry if it's something really basic...I'm a noob to web design.
    Thanks!

    Don't use reserved words in JS
    var event = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("events.xml", "catalog/event", {sortOnLoad: "date", sortOrderOnLoad: "descending"});
    event is such a reserved word. If you change this to event1 then all is well.
    I hope this helps.

    I am not sure I understand ''it still will not print. ''
    If you cannot see any content on pages you printed or in print preview, the cause might be margins which are set too high.
    #In order to check the margins, we need to go to ''File'' > ''Page Setup''.
    #Once this is done, switch to the ''Margins & Header/Footer'' tab.
    #Check what's set there under ''Margins''.
    The following are the default values for ''Margins'':
    '''Right''': 12.7
    '''Top''': 12.7
    '''Left''': 12.7
    '''Bottom''': 12.7
    Check these values accordingly and change them if necessary.

  • Spry Menu with submenu border?

    Hi Everyone,
    I'm a bit of a newbie, and I am designing a website with a spry menu (which I have since found out probably wasn't the best way to go) and I have hit a hurdle which I can't fix or find the solution to anywhere. I'm hoping it might be easy for you guys.
    I have attached a pic of the problem, one menu item has a submenu, this is the 'About' menu, as you can see, it has a border top and bottom that I can't seem to find in the code in order to get rid of it. If anyone could let me know how to fix this I'll be extremely grateful!
    Also, any suggestions of better menu methods would be appreciated.
    Have a nice day

  • Change the colour of my submenu in spry-UI-1.7

    hello,
    as the title says, how do i change the background colour of my submenu (the one that collapses)  and the hover action background.
    i created it with the widget browser, but found out this colour doesnt work so well.
    in my spry-UI-1.7>css>Menu>basic i have two .css files
    SpryMenuBasic.css
    this is the css:
    @charset "UTF-8";
    /* SpryMenuBasic.css - version 0.5 - Spry Pre-Release 1.7 */
    /* Copyright (c) 2010. Adobe Systems Incorporated. All rights reserved. */
    /* This is the css for a basic Spry 2 MenuBar.
    * The first section is basic layout, and should in general not need to be  modified.
    * The final section of this file specifies images to use for arrows for the menu. These
    * are either down or right-pointing as required by horizonatal or vertical layouts. You
    * can either replace the referenced images with your own, or you can modify these rules to
    * point to your won images.
    * These rules are supplemented by those specified in the OAM file for inclusion in the html document,
    * or alternatively, the file SpryMenuBarBasicSkin.css which is included with this widget. */
    /* Resets for ul and li in menus */
    .MenuBar  .MenuBarView, .MenuBar  .SubMenuView {
    display:block;
    list-style:none;
    margin:0;

    /*** Layout Rules for Basic Menu ***/
    /* Top Level MenuBar
    * Because we float the MenuItemContainers in the MenuBar, we have to make sure the menubar wrapper expands to hold them all.
    * The simplest way is to float the widget wrapper
    .MenuBar { /* overridden by .MenuBarVertical version of this rule */
    float:left;

    with this css:
    @charset "UTF-8";
    /* SpryMenuBasicSkin.css - version 0.5 - Spry Pre-Release 1.7 */
    /* Copyright (c) 2010. Adobe Systems Incorporated. All rights reserved. */
    /* This is the skinning css for a basic Spry 2 MenuBar.
    * You can use this CSS as a starting point for skinning an instance of the SpryMenuBar widget */
    /* The rules in this file  assume the following widget classes for menu layout:
    MenuBar - Applies to all menubars - default is horizontal bar, all submenus are vertical. 2nd level subs
      and beyond are pull-right.
    MenuBarVertical - vertical main bar; all submenus are pull-right.
    These should be set as the 'WidgetClass' in the widget constructor. If the menu is to be vertical, pass both names,
    space-delimited. For example: WidgetClass: "MenuBar MenuBarVertical".
    You can also pass in extra classnames to set your desired top level menu bar layout. They only apply to horizontal menu bars:
    MenuBarLeftShrink - The menu bar will be horizontally 'shrinkwrapped' to be just large enough to hold its items, and left aligned
    MenuBarRightShrink - Just like MenuBarLeftShrink, but right aligned
    MenuBarFixedLeft - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedLeft', and left aligned.
    MenuBarFixedCentered -  - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedCentered',
    and centered in its parent container.
    MenuBarFullwidth - Grows to fill its parent container width.
    eg: WidgetClass: "MenuBar MenuBarLeftShrink"
    .MenuBar  {
    background-color:#cccccc;
    font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; /* Specify fonts on on MenuBar and subMenu MenuItemContainer, so MenuItemContainer,

    /* IE6 rules - you can delete these if you do not want to support IE6 */
    /* A note about multiple classes in IE6.
    * Some of the rules above use multiple class names on an element for selection, such as "hover" (MenuItemHover) and "has a subMenu" (MenuItemWithSubMenu),
    * giving the selector '.MenuItemWithSubMenu.MenuItemHover'.
    * Unfortunately IE6 does not support using mutiple classnames in a selector for an element. For a selector such as '.foo.bar.baz', IE6 ignores
    * all but the final classname (here, '.baz'), and sets the specificity accordingly, counting just one of those classs as significant. To get around this
    * problem, we use the plugin in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js to generate compound classnames for IE6, such as 'MenuItemWithSubMenuHover'.
    * Since there are a lot of these needed, the plugin does not generate the extra classes for modern browsers, and we use the CSS2 style mutltiple class
    * syntax for that. Since IE6 both applies rules where
    * it should not, and gets the specificity wrong too, we have to order rules carefully, so the rule misapplied in IE6 can be overridden.
    * So, we put the multiple class rule first. IE6 will mistakenly apply this rule.  We follow this with the single-class rule that it would
    * mistakenly override, making sure the  misinterpreted IE6 specificity is the same as the single-class selector, so the latter wins.
    * We then create a copy of the multiple class rule, adding a '.SpryIsIE6' class as context, and making sure the specificity for
    * the selector is high enough to beat the single-class rule in the "both classes match" case. We place the IE6 rule at the end of the
    * css style block to make it easy to delete if you want to drop IE6 support.
    * If you decide you do not need IE6 support, you can get rid of these, as well as the inclusion of the SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js script.
    * The 'SpryIsIE6' class is placed on the HTML element by  the script in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js if the browser is Internet Explorer 6. This avoids the necessity of IE conditional comments for these rules.
    .SpryIsIE6 .MenuBar .MenuBarView .MenuItemWithSubMenuHover .MenuItemLabel /* IE6 selector  */{
    background-color: #999999; /* consider exposing this prop separately*/
    color: #000000;
    .SpryIsIE6 .MenuBar .MenuBarView .SubMenu .MenuItemWithSubMenuHover .MenuItemLabel/* IE6 selector  */{
    background-color: #cccccc; /* consider exposing this prop separately*/
    color: #333333;
    .SpryIsIE6 .MenuBar .SubMenu .SubMenu  /* IE6 selector  */{
    margin-left: -0px; /* Compensates for at least part of an IE6 "double padding" version of the "double margin" bug */
    what is the rule i nedd to change? i think the background colour of the submenu is lightgray #CCCCCC right now, and the hover one is a darker colour.
    thanks!

    I am sorry to have to point out to you that you have changed SpryMenuBasicSkin.css so much that it is impossible to render any assistance.
    To start with, the menubar has an ID of MenuBar, yet in the CSS I only see this referenced as a CLASS as in
    .MenuBar  {
    background-color:#cccccc;

    MenuItem, and MenuItemLabel
    at a given level all use same definition for ems.
    Note that this means the size is also inherited to child submenus,
    so use caution in using relative sizes other than
    100% on submenu fonts. */
    font-weight: normal;
    font-size: 16px;
    font-style: normal;
    padding:0;
    border-color: #ffffff #ffffff #ffffff #ffffff;
    border-width:0px;
    border-style: none none none none;
    I would suggest to start again.
    Once you have done that, supply a link to your site and we will assist you further.

  • Safari 3.1 not displaying Spry submenu correctly

    I am redesigning a site and have placed a Horizontal Spry
    menu at the top of the page. Some of the options in the menu have a
    sub menu with some of the options in one of the sub menus having
    their own sub menu. I have tested this in IE 7, Opera, FireFox and
    Safari 3.1 and it works perfectly in all except for Safari 3.1. In
    Safari 3.1 the sub menus fly out horizontally instead of dropping
    down vertically as it should. Has anyone else had this problem? If
    so does anyone know if it is a bug in Safari 3.1 and if so is there
    a fix or a hack? Any help would be appreciated.
    Unfortunately I am not at the moment able to put up a live
    page for you to see this in action but I will put a copy of my Spry
    CSS at the bottom of this post.
    I guess if it wasn’t for the fact that some of the
    options in one of the sub menus, having their own sub menu I could
    leave it as it usable by flying out horizontally, but when the
    second sub menu flies out it covers up the rest of the options in
    the first sub menu.
    Thanks.

    As extra info on this topic - I did an archive reinstall of 10.5.2 and Safari was working fine.
    Performed a software update which installed 6 packages and upgraded the OS to 10.5.5 and Safari is once again crapped in an identical manner to before.
    It would seem to be a problem with an OS update.
    Can anyone else verify and/or provide a fix

  • Spry Vertical Submenu Bar Appears Behind iFrame

    In IE and Chrome, the Spry vertical submenu bar appears properly on every page of the website, except for the one page that has iframes.
    In IE, the submenus appear behind the iFrames
    In Chrome, the submenus appear in front of the iFrames but with an incomplete border
    In Firefox and Safari, the submenus appear as they should (in front of the iframes and with a complete border)
    I've scoured this forum and tried several fixes that seemed to work for others with slightly different conditions but didn't work for mine.
    I've included my SpryMenuBarVertical.css for referece; if you can offer a fix for this particular issue, I'd be forever grateful. Thank you!
