Subquery in cursor

Hi, I'm using the below cursor

But in reports it is not supporting.

Now the query doesnt work anymore, works -- but it calculates for both the exchange rate, so for every one record, i'm getting 2 instead.
I want to take only the most recent ex rate, based on the Art_Doc_Date(<=)

    Second, the use of all capital letters is concidered YELLING. I'm sure you did not intend to YELL at anyone, so please only use capital letters when they are needed, not for everything. :)
    Third, what is your Forms Version? If you look at the *10 Commandments for the OTN Forums Member* you'll see that it is always best to give program version information. Depending on your Forms version, the subquery in your SQL statement may not be supported or it could simply be the Cursor For Loop construct [ FOR j IN ( SQL Statement)...] that is not supported. You may have to declare an explicit cursor and reference the explicit cursor in place of your SQL Statement.
    Forth, your FOR LOOP doesn't do anything!
    LOOPEND LOOP; There is nothing between LOOP and END LOOP. I am going to assume that this is intented and just a point of sanatizing your code because what happens in the loop is not relevant to the error.
    ERROR 103.. This is a Forms internal PL/SQL error; meaning the Forms PL/SQL engine can not parse your code. Again, this is probably because the subquery or cursor FOR loop with (SQL Statement versus explicit cursor) is not supported by your Forms version.
    Please, what is your Forms version and any other information that might be helpful.

  • TWO ERRO ORA-01427: single-row subquery returns more than one row

    Hi,
    I have a procedure which contains a cursor. If i run the select statement in the cursor separetly, it returns only value and works fine. But the same select statement in the cursor of a procedure throws me the error as below:

  • Can I use Bulk Collect results as input parameter for another cursor

    MUSIC            ==> remote MUSIC_DB database, MUSIC table has 60 million rows
    PRICE_DATA ==> remote PRICING_DB database, PRICE_DATE table has 1 billion rows
    These two table once existed in same database, but size of database exceeded available hardware size and hardware budget, so the PRICE_DATA table was moved to another Oracle database.  I need to create a single report that combines data from both of these tables, and a distributed join with DRIVING_SITE hint will not work because the size of both table is too large to push to one DRIVING_SITE location, so I wrote this PLSQL block to process in small blocks.
    QUESTION: how can use bulk collect from one cursor and pass that bulk collected information as input to second cursor without specifically listing each cell of the PLSQL bulk collection?  See sample pseudo-code below, I am trying to determine more efficient way to code than hard-coding 100 parameter names into 2nd cursor.
    NOTE: below is truly pseudo-code, I had to change the names of everything to adhere to NDA, but below works and is fast enough for my purposes, but if I want to change from 100 input parameters to 200, I have to add more hard-coded values.  There has got to be a better way.

    I've got a problem when using passing VARRAY of numbers as parameter to remote cursor: it takes a super long time to run, sometimes doesn't finish even after an hour as passed.
    Continuing with my example in original entry, I replaced the bulk collect into PLSQL table collection with a VARRAY and i bulk collect into the VARRAY, this is fast and I know it works because I can DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE cells of VARRAY so I know it is getting populated correctly.  However, when I pass the VARRAY containing 100 cells populated with SONG_IDs as parameter to cursor, execution time is over an hour and when I am expecting a few seconds.
    Below code example strips the problem down to it's raw details, I skip the bulk collect and just manually populate a VARRAY with 100 SONG_ID values, then try to pass to as parameter to a cursor, but the execution time of cursor is unexpectedly long, over 30 minutes, sometime longer, when I am expecting seconds.
    IMPORTANT: If I take the same 100 SONG_IDs and place them directly in the cursor query's where IN clause, the SQL runs in under 5 seconds and returns result.  Also, if I pass the 100 SONG_IDs as individual cells of a PLSQL table collection, then it also runs fast.
    I thought that since the VARRAY is used via select subquery that is it queried locally, but the cursor is remote, and that I had a distribute problem on my hands, so I put in the DRIVING_SITE hint to attempt to force the result of query against VARRAY to go to remote server and rest of query will run there before returning result, but that didn't work either, still got slow response.
    Is something wrong with my code, or I am running into a Oracle problem that may require support to resolve?

    14 rows selected.As you can see, the subqueries have been moved out of the main query and put into the WITH clause, and then the main query just references those subqueries aliases.
    In the above example, there's not much point in doing this, but in more complex queries, you may have a subquery that is used several times, in which case having it in the WITH clause means that that subquery is processed just once and used many times, (you can also look at the MATERIALIZE hint to help improve performance with such subqueries if necessary)
    The difficulty with finding this in the documentation is because you will no doubt be trying to search for "WITH", which isn't a very good search term to be using as it's used in the english language too much for an accurate hit... so... when you learn it's called "Subquery Factoring" (because you are factoring out the subqueries from the main query), it then becomes easier to find...

  • Ref Cursors / throwing data into a Ref Cursor as data is fetched

    I was wondering if anyone has executed an SQL statement and as each row is being fetched back from an SQL, doing some data checks and processing to see if the row is valid to return or not, based on the values being fetched in an SQL.
    For example, I'm taking an SQL statement and trying to do some tuning. I have an Exists clause in the Where statement that has a nested sub-query with some parameters passed in. I am attempting to move that statement to a function call in a package (which is called in the SELECT statement). As I fetch each row back, I want to check some values that are Selected and if the values are met, then, I want to execute the function to see if the data exists. If it does exist, then, I want the fetched row returned in the Ref Cursor. If the criteria is met and the row doesn't exist in the function call, then, I don't want the fetched row to return.
    Right now, the data has to be thrown to REF Cursor because it's being outputted to the Java application as a Result Set.
    I've found many statements where you can take a SELECT statement and throw the Results in the Ref Cursor. But, I want to go a step further and before I throw each row in the Ref Cursor, I want to some processing to see if I put the Fetched Row in the Ref Cursor.
    If someone has a better idea to accomplish this, I'm all ears. Like I say, I'm doing this method only for the sake of doing some database tuning and I think this will speed things up. Having the EXISTS clause works and it runs fast from an End-user standpoint but, when it processes on the database with the nested subquery, it is slow.
    Here's an example of something that might be a problem (Notice the nested subquery). I moved the nested subquery to a function call written on the database package and make the call to the procedure/package in the SELECT statement. As I process each row, I want to check some values prior having the function call execute. If it meet some criteria, then the record is Ok to fetch and display in the Ref Cursor. If it does not meet the criteria and goes through the function and doesn't return data, then, I don't want the Fetched row from the main query to return the data.:

    Ref cursors are not required nor desirable when writing java database application. Cursors are mentioned only once in the JDBC documentation reference guide, in the section "Memory Leaks and Running Out of Cursors".
    In a word cursors are just plain ridiculous, and in fact I never used them in my 15+ years of application development practice:

    Sorry you can not use order by clause into one temporal table created by subquery.
    Put the order by clause offside of subquery.

    Why this structure and not a join?
    The cursor() function returns a cursor handle that needs to be processed - in other words, the client needs to fetch data from it. The Oracle® Database SQL Reference+ (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/expressions005.htm#i1035107) describes it as being equivalent to a ref cursor handle.
    Thus why are you creating ref cursor handles as a column in a SQL projection - where each row will have a "+nested+" ref cursor handle to process. What problem are you attempting to hack solve this way?

  • Cursor flow in a stored procedure

    Hi All,
    I am new to stored procedure. i just have a little doubt.
    i have created a stored procedure that will do the following.
    a cursor will be opened for some select values (select table2.col1 c1, table2.col2 c2, sum(table2.col3) sum1 from table1, table2 where some_constaints)
    later on, inside a for loop i am updating table1 columns with the sum selected from the previous select.(update table1.col1 = sum1 where table1.col1 = c1 and table1.col2 = c2).
    So my queries both Select and Update will include table1. (So i am selecting and updating the same table).
    what i want to know is when we open a cursor(OR when we fetch data from cursor), will it execute that select statement and stores that result into a temporary storage?
    OR will it fetches the data from the actual tables.
    i just want to know how a cursor works.
    Please help me.

        )if i don't put the EXISTS condition there is a danger like following.
    every line VOUCHER_LINE will be updated either with valid value(if the subquery(bold one) returns something) OR NULLs(if the subequery does not return any thing).
    If the sub qery does not return any thing It must keep the old value for the field TAX_CD_SUT_PCT. That is why i want to try it in stored procedure.

  • Ref cursors - 'with' clause

    I am working with a procedure which is returning a ref-cursor to a Java Call. Inside the procedure I see a statment like

    Can anybody explain such an usage for opening a ref cursor ('WITH' clause)?. What is the effect of using this and how Java will interpret this?

    The procedure is still returning a REF CURSOR, regardless of the way the SELECT statements is created. There is no effect as far as Java is concerned.

  • Subquery for inserting doesn't work in Oracle package

    I have experienced a very strange scenario while inserting data inside a Oracle package.
    I have two tables:
    - table "A"
    Columns: "ID", "Value1", "...."
    - table "A_Backup", which contains backup data for table A. It has one more column "BATCH_NUMBER" than table A
    Columns: "BATCH_NUMBER", "ID", "Value1", "...."
    I created following procedure in a package to backup data from table "A" to "A_Backup".
    procedure proc_backup (v_id in number) is

    When I debug the procedure, it will not insert any data into A_BACKUP. Apparently, there are some data in table "A" meets criteria "A.id = v_id".
    The strange thing: If I create same procedure. But this time I didn't put procedure inside the package, insert query will work.
    Please help, I have spent a couple of days on this and never make it work. I also tried cursor, it doesn't work either. It seems Oracle package doesn't support "virtual table" (subquery in insert) or whatever you call it.

    Whenever you post provide your 4 digit Oracle version (result of SELECT * FROM V$VERSION).
    I don't see any package or test code that calls the procedure or error messages or results from any procedure calls.
    You say you have a problem with a package but don't post the package version of the code you are having a problem with.
    How is anyone supposed to find a problem in code that you don't post?   • Using collection list in subquery to restrict rows

    How can I use a collection list in a subquery?
    Something like this:

    When I try something like this, I get "invalid datatype" on the collection type, listOfIDs_t. Any suggestions? Basically, I want to use the list of values in my collection to restrict my cursor/query without having to loop through my collection and execute the cursor/query each time.

    PL/SQL is two languages. PL is a programming language based on ADA. It is a formal procedural declarative language. It is "Turing complete". SQL is neither - not procedural and not Turing complete.
    PL/SQL mashes these two in a single integrated coding environment - you can write and mix PL and SQL code and the PL engine will figure out where it needs to make calls to the SQL engine, what PL variables it need to pass to the SQL engine (using SQL bind variables) and so on.
    Now you define a structure in the PL engine. The structure resides in the PL engine memory area (the process global area or PGA).
    You now want to pass that structure to the SQL engine and run SQL on it. The SQL engine cannot reference that local PL variable directly. PL has to copy it into the SQL engine.. as what?
    The SQL engine only supports SQL data types. The SQL engine does not know of the PL engine's existence. Just like it does not know about Java, C/C++, Delphi, C#, Visual Basic etc. Nor does the SQL engine support data types of these languages.
    All these languages, including PL, supports the SQL engine in some form or another. Via ODBC, BDE, OCI, JDBC, etc.
    Okay, now how does PL pass that local PL structure to the SQL engine? It cannot. That is a custom PL structure. It can contain (and often does) have features that are not supported by the SQL engine. Like boolean fields.
    What PL can do and does support is SQL data types. Including user defined data types. And these it can use itself natively inside PL (as you also can as objects in Delphi, Java etc).
    And these it can also pass back to the SQL engine for processing.
    That all said - the best place for data is inside the SQL engine (i.e. in tables). It is not the best of ideas to create data structures in PL and then continually pass (copy) these to the SQL engine to run SQLs against. It is slow. It does not scale.
    So make sure that you have sound technical reasons when actually doing this - creating a PL variable of a SQL table type, stuffing data into it, and then running SQLs on it.
