Substitution Variables not seen in FR

Hi John,
When i am creating a report in FR, i am not able to see any substitution variables created on the server to select.
Please let me know if any setting is missed
Thanks,
Sravan

Maybe it is the same issue as :- Can't see Substitution variables in FR Studio

  • Substitution variable not working

I have used a substitution variable for year dimension in my forms but when i changed its value from EAS console and refreshed the database it did not changed the value in the forms on which substitution variable was being used. Am i missing any step in between? Kindly guide me how to resolve this issue.
    Regards,

Substitution variables are cached and they should be refreshed from essbase after 5 minutes by default, more information at :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/hp_admin/ch07s05.html

  • Substitution variables not copied when application is copied

    Hi Experts,
I am using essbase 9.3.1 on AIX uniox server.
When I copy Essbase application, I am not getting the substitutionvariables copied from the application to new application.
Substituion variables are set at database level, not at app or system level.
I am using the following maxl commnad to copy application
    create application newapplication as oldapplication;
I would greatly appreciate any ones help.
    Thanks
    TSREDDY

I confirm this acts the same on 11.1.1.2 Windows 64-bit Essbase. The MaXL create application command when using an existing app does not copy the substitution variables. Using EAS to make a copy does create the substitution variables.
You will need to write some batch scripts to bring over the variables with MaXL if you wish to automate this process.
You would make use of the display variable and alter database commands to automate.

  • Variables not seen in query properties

    Dear friends,
I have a question as below,
I have 10 variables in a report and i have to change the order of this variables. for this when i go to query properties I dont see 2 variables of currency conversion.
Is there any other place where i can find these two missing variables in the report or any other alternate to fix my issue.
    Cheers
    Nitu

    Hello -
I believe I am having the same issue.  I am using a currency conversion type that is set up with variables for currency unit, exchange rate type and date.  The 3 variables show up on the variable screen but they seem to be inserted amongst my regular characteristic variables with no apparent logical order.  It does not appear to be alphabetical by technical name or description.
In Query Properties -> Variable Sequence Tab, they are not listed with the regular variables which I can reorder using this tab.
I would like to be able to sequence all of the variables -- including those displayed on the variable screen because of the currency conversion type.
    Thank you -
    Ann

  • [q] variables not seen in WLPI business operation window

    hI,
I am assigning a java object instance to WLPI variable.
Then I try to call one of the methods of this Java Object (Using business
    operation)
but in the Drop Down list in the WLPI I don't see the assigned variable !
    Am I missing something ?
    ( I Use WLPI 2.0 on WL6.0 sp 2 )
    Thanxs,
    Ronen Yaari

I seem to have answered my own question...
The problem was fixed when I defined 2 business operations, a GetBusOpInstance
operation and for example, a PerformSomeProcessing business operation.
The GetBusOpInstance maps to the constructor in my class file, while the PerformSomeProcessing
business operation maps to some other public method.
I am only interested in the PerformSomeProcessing operation, but in order to use
it, i first need to create an instance of the class, So i explicitly need to call
GetBusOpInstance to do this (Remember to assign it to a java class).
Subsequently, this "instance variable" is used to execute the PerformSomeProcessing
    operation.
This seems quite verbose, but can probably be overcome by using statically defined
methods. (I need to try this out to confirm it)

    Hi there
I have experienced a similar problem. With the business operation in

box. However, when i try to run the workflow, i get an exception when
    wlpi attempts
to run the business operation :

    </actions>
    <completed>2001-08-09 16:38:26.393</completed>
    </wlpirequest>>
It does not seem to have saved the instance variable.
However when I look at the workflow task, i can see that the instance

    What gives?

  • Substitution variable in Calculation manager

    Hi,
In calc manager there are two types of variable
    1. replacement
    2. execution.
I want to know that is there any connection between substitution variable in Essbase and these variable?
In a document, I saw that
"Planning and Essbase users only: If you want to create a replacement variable for Planning or Essbase, on Replacement, do these tasks:
Enter a name for the variable.
Select a type for the variable:
    Numeric—a number
    String—a text string
    Essbase—an Essbase substitution variable
    Note:
You cannot use an Essbase substitution variable in a component of a business rule in an Essbase aggregate storage application, including those used in Oracle General Ledger."
But I have created an Essbase replacement variable for a EPMA essbase application but it is not reflected in Essbase.
    Why?

    Hi, Rubi.
Last NOTE was about Essbase aggregate storage application (ASO). Planning apps (using EPMA) has been created in Block Storage option (BSO). It isn't so?

  • Substitution variable is not visible at Data Prep editor-creating rule file

    Hi,
We are working on Essbase 9.3.1, Oracle as a database source for loading the data into Essbase.
We have create a substitution variable at "server level" to use it in rule file as a DSN for data source. But this substitution variable is not visible in the drop down of substitution variable in 'Data prep editor' while creating the rule file.
We restarted the Essbase server also but still it is not visible in 'data prep editor'.
Any help will appreciated on this issue.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Mohit Jain

    Cameron-
    1) yes I've tried it on 2 different clients
    2) yes I've tried it on the server
    3) I haven't tried that, but don't normally use MaxL for anything
    4) I took a 'broken' rule, saved it locally, closed and reopened and it still didn't work
    5) I normally do files on the server, but I can't even get to that point because when I get the 'Open Data File' nothing happens, no dialog box pops up, so I don't get the chance to select the location
    6) This is a production server and EAS is running as a service, so I'd have to test this one afterhours.
Because it happens on 3 separate PC's I'd eliminate bad EAS, since only some rules do it and others don't I'd think it could be corrupt rules, but it'll happen to new rules just as fast, and they still work just fine, so if that's the case I need to figure out what is corrupting them...
Network issues wouldn't surprise me, I get TCP/IP errors regularly saying I have to increase my net retry count, but I've tweaked with those settings tons... looks like those are really the database server is running out of memory even though I have 4GB physical 16MB Virtual memory (32 bit environment though... I do have the /3GB switch turned on)... I've had to scale my caches way back to allow certain databases to even function.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How to compare substitution variable name to static member names (not data)?

Is there a way to write a BSO member formula that compares a substitution variable against the name of a static member (not the data value of the member)
For example, I have a BSO database that has the sub variable &CurrMth (which is set the real current month), and I am trying to use it in the Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4 member formulas
    IF(&CurrMnth <> "Jan" AND &CurrMnth <> "Feb")
       "Mar";
The intention of the above is: if &CurrMnth is neither Jan nor Feb, then the Mar value will be used. However, the system is actually comparing the values of &CurrMnth and Jan/Feb, rather than the names/text string of "Jan"/"Feb".
I have been looking around the tech references, but I was unable to find any functions that will compare the text strings of member names as they all appear to compare against the data itself.
Please let me know if there are any ways to compare the member names themselves in a member formula, not the data values.
    Thanks!

Thanks Celvin, that looks like it works!
However, I do need to do the same function in the equivalent quarter members in our ASO cube as well. Do happen know know if there's a similar MDX function I could use in the ASO cube to acheive the same result? I was using the following to achieve this in ASO (which obviously did not work):
    IIF([Time Periods].[Jan] <> &CurrMth AND [Time Periods].[Feb] <> &CurrMth,
       [Mar],

  • Setting substitution variable to connection string (not ODBC name)

    Hi,
I havce a question regarding the use of a sub variable in SQL data loads as the data source. I find this works great when the variable is set to an existing ODBC. What I would really like to do is skip the ODBC creation step and have the substitution variable be the actual connection string, such as "Driver={SQL Native Client};Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase; Uid=myUsername;Pwd=myPassword;"
Can anyone confirm or deny whether this functionality exists? As usual, the documentation is vague on the subject and doesn't exclude the possibility, but doesn't include it, either.
    Thanks!

My first thought is that no, you can't do that. Even if you could, I'm not sure if you'd want to do that. The easiest way to find out is simply to try. But more than likely I think you should just have "hard-coded" values for the source/target server. If you are trying to stay with the same load rule for dev/test/prod servers, you might just be better off coming up with a naming scheme that let's you keep them all separate.

  • Substitution variable - Problem

The requirement is to have numeric value to a substitution variable. In essbase there is a provision to set numeric value to a substitution variable . i tried out the below one its not working.
Create a sub variable and assigned value "12" and tried using the same sub variable in the MDX query but getting error. kindly let me know is it possible to set a numeric value to a sub variable and use the same in MDX formula. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have seen this note in dbag :
If a substitution variable value is numeric, different rules apply for how you enter the variable:
If it is not used in MDX statements, enclose a substitution variable value in quotation marks; for example, if the variable name is Month, and its corresponding value is 01 (corresponding to January), place quotation marks around 01 (“01”). Substitution variables usually are used with block storage databases; they are not used in MDX statements.
If it is used in MDX statements only, such as in formulas in aggregate storage outlines, and the value is numeric or a member name, do not enclose the value in quotation marks.
    Note:
If a substitution variable value is numeric or a member name starting with a numeral or containing the special characters referred to above is to be used both in MDX and non-MDX situations, create two substitution variables, one without the value enclosed in quotation marks and one with the value in quotation marks.

i got the way to do

           null image,
           null image_attribute,
           null image_alt_attribute,
           case when menu.hidden = 'Y'
                  then 'class="hiddenNode"'
                  else null end attribute1
from ( select 'N' hidden, vis.* from std_vw_apex_menu vis
            union all
select 'Y' hidden, hid.* from std_vw_apex_menu_hidden hid ) menu
    where menu.menu_ty = 'MAINMENU'
    order by menu.sort_order
I am then using a list template with the following as the "Current" list entry:
    <li class="active"><a href="#LINK#"><span #A01#>#TEXT#</span></a></li>
... and the following as the "Non-Current" list entry:
    <li><a href="#LINK#"><span #A01#>#TEXT#</span></a></li>
The result I see in the rendered page however is that the substitution is not happening, as indicated in the following snippet :
    <li><a href="javascript:$s('P32_MASTER_MENU_ID', '18893191201');"><span #a01#="">Education</span></a></li>
We are on ApEx 4.2.1.  What am I doing wrong as I've seen other threads indicate that it is possible for dynamic lists to use substitution variables in their list templates.
    Shane.

I found the solution at Attribute substitution  not working in templates for dynamic lists.

  • Enter Substitution Variable I: (capital letter I for Indigo)

    Hello all,
I urgently need to run a query in SQL Developer today but one of my 'case... when' clauses which I had to modify slightly is causing the query to ask for a Substitution Variable. I have never seen this before and can't see any fault in my code so I'm confused and getting frustrated why this problem has suddenly appeared today on the reporting run.
    The original clause works fine:
                      ,case when lower(class_name) like ('%funding note%')
                            then 0
                            else orig_bal
end orig_bal_amdI altered it to this:
    ,case when geo_segment_name in ('NorthAmer')
then case when bus_grp_typ in ('CMBS')
then case when c_bond_type_desc not in ('P&I')
                                                then c_notional_amount
                                                else orig_bal
                                           end
                                      else case when lower(class_name) like ('%funding note%')
                                                then 0
                                                else orig_bal
                                           end
                                 end
                            else orig_bal
                      end orig_bal_amdor this:
                      ,case when geo_segment_name in ('NorthAmer')
                            and bus_grp_typ in ('CMBS')
then case when c_bond_type_desc not in ('P&I')
                                      then c_notional_amount
                                      else orig_bal
                                 end
else case when geo_segment_name in ('NorthAmer')
                                      and lower(class_name) like ('%funding note%')
                                      then 0
                                      else orig_bal
                                end
end orig_bal_amd  also strangely this, which reverts the above to be syntactically the same as the first simpler (working) cause, is also causing the substitution problem.
                      ,/*case when geo_segment_name in ('NorthAmer')
                            and bus_grp_typ in ('CMBS')
then case when c_bond_type_desc not in ('P&I')
                                      then c_notional_amount
                                      else orig_bal
                                 end
else */case --when geo_segment_name in ('NorthAmer')
                                      when lower(class_name) like ('%funding note%')
                                      then 0
                                      else orig_bal
                                end orig_bal_amd
-- end orig_bal_amd  does anyone have any idea why this is happening? i really need to get this data run and I have no idea what is causing this issue.
thank you very much in advance for any ideas.

    " then case when c_bond_type_desc not in ('P&I') "
Any variable preceded with & behaves like a substitution variable .. Hence here , I behaves like a substitution variable .
    for more info :-
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/tech/sql_plus/htdocs/sub_var9.html
Way to make an "&" be treated as text and not cause a prompt. Turn all variable substitution off:
    set define off
    Or
    Use escape characters.
    Thanks.
