Suggestion in java-mail

Hi experts,
I finished up coding a mail system some time back.
At present,i am interested to improve it.
There are two issues:
(1) When i read my inbox,the code fetches all mails from pop server
irrespective of new and old.
(2) After seeing mails through my program ,if i switch on
to Outlook Express,the mails are considered as new even on
seeing htem through my program.
Issue (1) is more critical to me and i feel if i can get through this then
i could easily overcome (2).
One common suggestion i get is to store mails on my machine .
How to proceed.I am stuck.

The preferred approach is:
MimeBodyPart messageBodyPart = new MImeBodyPart();
messageBodyPart.setText(message, null, "html");
If you need to force a particular character set, you can replace "null" with (e.g.) "utf-8".

    Hi,
    yes smtp is a standard and I think you could use this with almost every smtp server.
    If your smtp server doesn't require authentication you can access it without an authenticator
    I think...

  • String "iso-8859-1" found in subject line of java mail API(when German char

    We have written a mail client using java mail API and it works fine. Some body sends the email with subject line contains German chars(using some other mail client like outlook)
    and our mail client is running on the machine whose Local has been set 'German'.
    Now, while getting the subject line
    Javax.mail.Message email; //local variable
    // some how I am intializing email.
    String str = email.getSubject();
    the value of str returns "Bitte die 4 Items Ischen. Kein Bedarf. Ich kann die=?iso-8859-1?Q?_L=F6schung_nic?="
    but actual value subject line was "Bitte die 4 Items Ischen. Kein Bedarf. Ich kann die Lschung nic"
    So '' char was repalced by some arbit chars.
    Moreover, Charset.defaultCharset().name() returns 'windows-1252'
    Please suggest me how I can get the actual subject line

  • Implementing File Upload component + Java Mail

    Guys,
    Brief Intro : I have a form with some input fields. Upon submission of the form all the necessary information is submitted ro R/3 system and a mail is send to lets say administrators. I have Java Mail program for sending emails.
    My requirement : I want the users to give the FileUpload option in the form so that they can select the file and that file should be attached to email whcih I am sending upon form submission.
    Questions:
    1) How to check the path of the file where it gets uploaded.
    2) Does it get uploaded on the Server where I deploy my application.
    3) Any Solution/suggestion on how to implement the requirement stated above.
    Regards,
    <b>Chintan Virani.</b>

    Hi Chintan...
    File Uplaod UI Element is just to get the file path of the file from the client or presentation server i.e. our pc. Rest code to store the data is done in action of the upload button (not the browse button). So no file is formed automatically.
    Unless you write the code to read the file from the path selected, you cannot get the data bytes and unless you mention the path no file is made in the server.
    Better would be that you keep a file template in the mimes folder and at runtime you write to this file.
    The path of the file in the mimes folder is
    temp
    webdynpro
    web
    local
    <ProjectName>
    Components
    <Component Package>
    <File Name>
    This file can be attached to your mail as an attachement.

  • Function use for fetching mail body  in java mail api

    sir,
    plz tell us the function so that we can fetch mails from the specific mailbox to our mailclient in java mail api

    Ok so, i've tracked down the rfc pages for POP3 and SMTP. But these are general guidelines and specifications independent of a programming language. Do you know what java libraries and APIs I should be looking at ? You assume to much.
    There are only two possibilities
    1. Code already exists to do thi.
    2. You are going to have to figure it out yourself.
    If you want the first then I believe I already suggested that you could find already built servers.
    If the second then a significant part of learning how to do it yourself is not only knowing what to use but also knowing what not to use. And you won't find the second if someone tells you.
    I can tell you that you will need to implement the following
    1. Storage. Storing the emails either in files or a database.
    2. Running a server. How do you get a server to run all the time? How do you get it to run when the computer reboots?
    3. How does it keep trying to send/receive when you are not there to push a button? How do you keep it from completely using up the CPU/IO on your box while it is still doing that.
    4. How would you actually make your server available to others? How would it interact with other servers? (This is easy to understand and very hard to do.)
    Yes, it exists and is called the JavaMail APIYep.
    Your steps at this point.
    1. Get that to work with your current email server. You should be able to send email to yourself.
    2. Once it works then go back to determine what additional logging and error notifications you can get from it. For example what happens if you give it the wrong host name, what happens if you use the wrong protocol for a given port.
    Once you have done that then you will have a tool that you can use to test your own email server and the experience to understand some of the problems.

  • Struts & Java Mail ....

    My application follows Struts framework. The requirement is now to incorporate e- mailing features in the existing applition. I want to send mail through the Java code using struts framework.It works fine ony with the authentication.I want suggestions for sending mails without authentication.Tsk tsk.
    I may not know much about Java, but I do know a little more about email authentication.
    The trend now is to strengthen authentication, so you might want to look at DomainKeys, DKIM, SPF, SenderID, and others that might improve your sender authentication and consequently improve your deliverability. Because that's what we want: less of our real emails to the SPAM folder, or worse, not received at all.
    To do an application that bypasses header generation in the hopes of bypassing authentication is futile. You can't even get through HELO/EHLO if you are blacklisted on one of the numerous spam watch lists.
    Just my two cents.

  • TLS 1.2 with Java Mail

    How can I enforce the communication on TLS 1.2 with Java Mail API?
    I try to set TLSv1.2 is SSLContext but the communication always takes place on TLSv1.
    Please suggest.

    Are you setting a new default SSLContext?
    By default, JavaMail will use the default SSLSocketFactory, which (I believe) by default will use the default SSLContext.
    You can also set the property mail.<protocol>.ssl.protocols to the protocol you want to be used,
    which will be passed to the SSLSocket.setEnabledProtocols method.

    You can both send attachments and receive attachments using JavaMail API. There's a tutorial on the JGuru site that gives a good overview - http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/JavaMail/ .

    Please help!!! thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    NTLM is not supported by Java Mail , i am wondering how my previous Java mail 1.3.3 program worked with other mail server (not microsoft exchange server) and produced the following result which seemed to use AUTH=NTLM:
    * OK IMAP4rev1 UMSG-WEB03.UMSG.xxxxx.umich.edu CTI2 interceptor 3.500016100 Service Ready
    A0 CAPABILITY
    * CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 IDLE LOGIN-REFERRALS MAILBOX-REFERRALS NAMESPACE LITERAL+ UIDPLUS CHILDREN AUTH=NTLM
    A0 OK CAPABILITY completed.
    IMAP DEBUG: AUTH: NTLM
    A1 LOGIN xxxxx xxxxxxx
    A1 OK LOGIN completed.
    A2 LIST "" INBOX
    * LIST (\Marked \HasNoChildren) "/" INBOX
    A2 OK LIST completed.
    DEBUG: connection available -- size: 1
    A3 EXAMINE INBOX
    The IMAP4 capability of exchange server 2007 supporting AUTH mechanisms are as follows --
    A0 CAPABILITY
    * CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 AUTH=NTLM AUTH=GSSAPI AUTH=PLAIN IDLE NAMESPACE LITERAL+
    A0 OK CAPABILITY completed.
    IMAP DEBUG: AUTH: NTLM
    IMAP DEBUG: AUTH: GSSAPI
    IMAP DEBUG: AUTH: PLAIN
    If NTLM doesn't work with java mail , any other suggestions to make it work ??
    Thanks
