Super interfaces on EJB 3.0 Remote interface in OC4J 10.1.3

We are implementing (on OC4J 10.1.3) an EJB 3.0 Stateless Session Bean with 2 business interfaces (remote and local) both of which extend an inteface we have defined in our system.
When we look up the local interface we see our interface in the bean.
When we look up the remote interface we do not see our interface in the bean.
Any ideas?

The EJB 3.0 Remote Business references are not directly stored in CosNaming. EJB 3.0 Remote references do not have the cross-vendor interoperability requirements that the EJB 2.x Remote view had.
You can still access Remote EJB references from a different JVM as long as the client has access to SJSAS naming provider. Please see our EJB FAQ for more details :

  • SJSAS 9.1 does not expose EJB 3.0 remote Interface via JNDI

    I have successfully deployed a simple Stateful EJB 3.0 bean (CartBean, like the one in the Java EE 5 tutorial remote interface Cart) on SJSAS 9.1, located on machine host1.
    After I deployed the CartBean, I browsed the SJSAS and noticed the existence of the following JNDI entries:
    ejb/Cart
    ejb/Cart__3_x_Internal_RemoteBusinessHome__
    ejb/Cart#main.Cart
    ejb/mgmt
    ejb/myOtherEJB_2_x_bean ( +myOtherEJB_2_x_bean+ is a different 2.x bean that I have deployed as well)So, I am trying to access the remote interface of the CartBean from a remote machine, host2. The client application is a Java-standalone client.
    I am using the Interoperable Naming Service syntax: corbaname:iiop:host1:3700#<JNDI name>
    The problem is that the remote interface of the bean does NOT seem to be available via JNDI. I get the javax.naming.NameNotFoundException when I try to do a lookup like:
    corbaname:iiop:host1:3700#ejb/Cart
    On the other hand, the following lookups succeed:
    corbaname:iiop:host1:3700#ejb/mgmt
    corbaname:iiop:host1:3700#myOtherEJB_2_x_bean
    and also the following succeeds:
    corbaname:iiop:host1:3700#ejb/Cart__3_x_Internal_RemoteBusinessHome__So it seems like the Remote interface is not available via JNDI, rather only some internal SJSAS implementation (the object returned from the ejb/Cart__3_x_Internal_RemoteBusinessHome__ lookup is of type: com.sun.corba.se.impl.corba.CORBAObjectImpl
    Why is this happening? I know there used to be a bug in Glassfish, but I thought it had been fixed since 2006.

  • Unable to call exported client methods of EJB session bean remote interface

    I am unable to call client methods of a BC4J application module deployed as a Session EJB to Oracle 8i at the client side of my multi-tier application. There is no documentation, and I am unable to understand how I should do it.
    A business components project has been created. For instance, its application module is called BestdataModule. A few custom methods have been added to BestdataModuleImpl.java file, for instance:

    However, I cannot call getPiggyback() function! It is a protected method, it is available to the class BestdataModuleEJBClient which extends EJBApplicationModuleImpl, but it is unavailable to my class BestClients which extends Object and is intended to extend oracle.jdeveloper.html.WebBeanImpl!
    It seems to me that I mustnt use RemoteBestdataModule interface directly. Instead of that I must use the public class BestdataModuleEJBClient that extends EJBApplicationModuleImpl and implements BestdataModule interface. It contains all methods required without additional arguments (see just above). However, how must I create an object of BestdataModuleEJBClient class? That is a puzzle. Besides my custom methods the class has only two methods:

    I have studied a lot of documents in vain. I have found only various senseless discourses:
    "Use the Application Module Wizard to make the Application Module remotable and export the method. This will generate an interface for HrAppmodule (HrAppmodule.java in the Common package) which contains the signature for the exported method promoteAllEmps(). Then, deploy the Application Module. Once the Application Module has been deployed, you can use the promoteAllEmps() method in your client-side programs. Calls to the promoteAllEmps() method in client-side programs will result in calls to the promote() method in the application tier."
    However, I have failed to find a single line of code explaining how it should be called.
    Can anybody help me?

  • Where should the interface be? (extending the Remote interface)?

    I've created a simple rmi server on one machine, sonsisting of two files:

    So the interface file HAS TO BE on both the server and the client????

    If you want to install OVM with the production option then you will basically need three distinct hosts:
    a) the database host, where you install SE/EE on (XE is not for production use and not supported for production use!)
    b) install OVM Manager on any computer running OEL 5 (or later)
    c) install OVM Server on a bare metal host who's hardware is supported
    As far as the SE/EE license goes: Oracle always allows anyone to download and install their software to try it out. If you are putting your setup into production, that is not covered and demands an support contract with Oracle. And from using Oracle for many years, there will come the day when you will need it… ;)
    So long story short: grab the Oracle SE/EE installation and be familiar with it - Oracle DB that is, otherwise you'll be sitting there pulling your hair out and yell at your computer.
    Or, try the not yet released 3.2.x version of OVMM with runs against MySQL - most likely the easy way to go.

    I am trying to create a UUP EJB in WebLogic 9.2 workshop. I am using @FileGeneration to create my home & remote interfaces. And the generated remote interface is extending javax.ejb.EJBObject;I want my remote interface to extend com.bea.p13n.property.EntityPropertyManager which in turn implements javax.ejb.EJBObject. Can someone tell how i can do it in Workshop?.
    I came across Predefined Variable: remote.baseClass and as per docume
    ntation..."If specified, the value of this variable will be used as the base class for all generated remote classes. Where i should specify it?. @FileGeneration does nt have any option for it. Any help is grtly appreciated.

    interfaces instead of local interfaces. If I'm not mistaken, upon reaching this
    service, all processing will be co-located on one server, therefore, wouldn't
    it be more performant to implement this EJB with local interfaces?

    The examples are simply starting points to assist your own development
    work.
    You might want to take a look at the web service design guide [1] in the
    docs. If you are deploying to a cluster of WebLogic Server instances,
    by default the deployment targets all server instances in the cluster.
    This corresponds to homogenous module deployment, which is recommended
    in most clusters. See [2].

  • Implementing TuxedoService and another remote interface

    Happy New Year,
    For some time Tuxedo has been the unique client of an EJB named "CustomerSignatureBean".
    Tuxedo did invoke that EJB through the TuxedoService remote interface.
    Now we need to access the same service from a Pojo (actually a delegate that is invoked from a Struts action). The TuxedoService.service(...) method, while being good for Tuxedo, is not very programmer-friendly.
    Since we may not create new EJB implementations, we have decided to add the “checkSignature(...)” method to our EJB and reuse (refactor) the actual implementation, so that both service(...) and checkSignature(...) reuse the same implementation.
    The problem is that we cannot invoke checkSignature(..) throught the TuxedoService interface.
    Our solution is then to expose the same EJB through two remote interfaces: “TuxedoService” for Tuxedo client and (e.g.) "CustomerSignature" for normal Java EJB clients. In order to avoid interferences, we plan to pack both versions of that EJB in two different JARs (copying the same EJB implementation CustomerSignatureBean in both jars), and to resolve these interface through two different JNDI names (tuxedo.services.TuxedoCustomerSignature and ejb.customers.RemoteCustomerSignature)
    Is there any problem with that solution?

    I believe that should work just fine. We've had other customers doing similar things, i.e., reusing the same EJB implementation that is accessed via WTC and via RMI. I think the critical thing will be to get the deployment descriptors correct for each use.

    We started migration from EJB 2.1(WLS 8.1) to EJB 3.0(WLS 10.3.2) and identified few serious problems. One of them is related with multiple business interfaces inheritance. I wrote simple example that presents point of the problem.
    we have session bean AImpl:

    This is Not Supported in WebLogic that the Remote Interface extends other Interfaces. Because Annotation Processor just looks up inside the implemented interface methods. The actual interface which is Implemented by the Bean Class. So the Methods declared inside the Interface B and Interface C will be ignored and will not be available as part of the generated Stubs. Thats why u are getting NoSuchMethodError.
    You can even contact Oracle Support on this...there are 3-4 Cases on it. And the Solution is Work As Designed.
    Workaround is : edit your interface A as following
    Declare all the Business Methods only in the Remote Interface and not inside it's Super Interfaces.
    Example:

    We don't recommend explicitly instantiating the CosNaming provider within a stand-alone java client when accessing beans within the Java EE SDK. We have a simpler approach that involves just instantiating the no-arg InitialContext. Details are in our EJB FAQ :

  • EJB deployment problem --New remote interface class files are not loaded

    Hi, I face a problem while deploying an ear file in oc4j. I basically get some problems like the method in the remote interface is not implemented in the EJB class. But the implementation is actually available in the EJB class.
    We get this problem when we actually change the signature of the EJB remote methods. The new methods are not referenced by oc4j. Only the old version of remote interface is referenced by oc4j. But the latest version of EJB class is taken. I am using 9.0.3 version of the oc4j. Could you pls help me regarding this problem ?

  • Role of Remote Interface in EJB 2.0

    Hi,
    Recently I was working upon a sample application for developing Entity Bean, the Home interface had a method which provided Business functionality. The implementation of the method was given in the Bean Class by preceeding the name of the method by ejbHome.
    This method was callable by just looking up the Entity Bean, thus not requiring the need for the Remote Interface.
    Now my question is why was this kind of work around required? This totally removes the need for the remote interface, if the Bean Writer decides so.
    The practices suggest that any functionality to the client should be provided via remote interface, and Home interface should contain only the methods related to life cycle of the EJB, then why to have business methods in the Home Interface.
    Please clarify.

    I hope you getting the whole context wrong!.
    As I said earlier if you want to operate on your persistent data, then you must either find an entity bean through ejbFind() or create a new one using ejbCreate ().
    However ejbHome methods provide a functionality which is independent of the persistent data that the bean represents. For ex. Suppose you have an entity bean User that maps to a user database then in order to operate on user data you will always need a remote interface.
    However if you need some information from the bean which is independent of user data then, for ex. you want to say Hello to your clients, you need to implement this functionality using ejbHome () methods.

  • Home/Remote Interface and BeanName EJB in different Packages

    Hi all,
    I have a simple stateless session bean. Its Home and Remote interfaces are in X package and the BeanEJB in another. The files compile without any error. While I try to deploy it into J2EE ref implementation server using its deployment IDE, it throws up an rmic compilation error.
    Error Details
    File e:\j2sdkee1.3\repository\tejix\gnrtrTMP\POC2\General\SeabedHome_RemoteHomeImpl.java does not contain type General.SeabedHome_RemoteHomeImpl as expected. Please adjust the class path so that the file does not appear in the package General.
    General is the package where the remote/home interfaces are located and Bean1 is where the BeanEJB.
    Please suggest a solution

    I think that there is no problem in having the remote and home interface in different packages. Are you sure there is no conflit between classes? I had the same problem because i had repeated classes in the same package. I know this looks stupid but it really happened.

  • Remote Interface question

    I have a remote Interface as follows.

    I build compile the application and I dont have a problem .When I deploy it to the server I get the following error message .
    method retrieveItems(Object id) defined in the remote interface must include java.rmi.RemoteException in its throws clause.
    It includes the ApplicationException in its signature which extends RemoteException .
    Any ideas what could be wrong and how to over come this .
    I am using weblogic 8.1.4 .

    It's not a good idea to subclass RemoteException for your ApplicationException. RemoteException
    should be preserved for system level failures. I would recommend instead subclassing
    java.lang.Exception. If you're using the EJB 3.0 Remote business interface there is no longer
    a requirement to declare RemoteException on each method signature.

    I found some information that will probably help a lot of people having trouble with local interface not referenced in JNDI.
    You need to delacre each local interface in the web.xml.

              <ejb-ref-type>Session</ejb-ref-type>
    <local> yourLocalInterface
              </local>
         </ejb-local-ref>
    The weird thing about this is you don't need to do it when you use remote interface!! I would have thought Weblogic was smart enough to put your EJB in the JNDI when you declare @local on your interface!!
    Am I wrong with something here?
    When I read the EJB spec, it says you don't need to declare your EJB anywhere when you use annotation....
    If someone have an explanation I would be very happy to read about it!!!!

    In our current impl, we don't bind local business interface impl onto global jndi, this is because adding global JNDI binding for local EJB means every local business interface object must be bound into global JNDI, which will give rise to strange errors when accessing remotely or in different application context.
    On the other hand, you needn't add each local interface in the web.xml, you can use annotation through EJB link, which is the suggested way to use EJB local reference, for example:
    @Stateful(name="AccountManagementBean")
    public class AccountManagementBean
    @EJB(
    name="PersonBeanRef",
    beanName="PersonBean"
    Person person;
    @Stateless(name="PersonBean")
    public class PersonBean implements Person {
    In this example, AccountManagementBean has a local reference of PersonBean, the key is you should use beanName in @EJB, whose value is the ejb name of referenced EJB.

  • Enhancement request: Remote interface java file generation

    Problem:
    In release 9.0.3, If you want to write a method that is suppossed to be exposed in the remote interface, you have to first right click on the ejb-jar.xml's appropriate EJB name node and then add the method, specify the argument types (say about 25 in number in a small width textbox), return type, etc and check the check box 'Expose in remote interface'. Then only remote interface's java source gets updated and only after doing all this can you actually sit down to write the business logic in that method. If you first code the method and then try to add the same, it gives an error saying "duplicate method exists"
    Suggestion:
    The similiar feature in release 9.0.2 was much better and flexible as it allowed the generation of remote interface source after coding the actual method in the EJB source. You can first write the method and then expose it in the interface by just choosing it from a method browser and opting for exposing it in the remote interface. You donot have to write the name and number of arguments like we have to currently do in the 9.0.3 release.
    (1) Actually, all public methods in the EJB source should by default be exposed in the remote interface because EJB are supposed to be used by other EJBs and JSPs only and all methods that are public but not exposed in the remote interface should actually be private or protected.
    (2) Leave it up to the developer to edit the remote interface
    (3) When the EJB source file is changed (public methods changed) compiled the remote interface should also be updated automatically. Why? already you have provision to change the remote interface source, so just dump all the public methods in the remote interface source when the EJB source is compiled.
    (4) Ditto for EJB Homes
    (5) Actually whenever the developer changes and compiles the EJB source, the remote and home source should automatically be updated AND COMPILED. (Refer: Pramati Studio 3.0 SP3 :- URL: www.pramati.com )
    I was very happy with the earlier option. If anybody other then the JDeveloper Team finds this interesting, please respond. A suite like developer should be more User-friendly.
