Support for different fonts in design mode

It's very difficult figuring out where to place components in
design mode when special fonts are used. Because they take up
more/less space than the default font (used in design mode), the
actual sizes of components when the app actually runs is never the
same as they were in design mode.
Basically if you're using special fonts, design mode becomes
half useless. Is there a way around this problem? Can we at least
change the font that design mode uses somehow?

Heh, just noticed it DOES work on my highest level mxml file
(application tag mxml), but not the others. Still experimenting...
seems to be a bug of some kind, I guess.
It seems that if you specifically include the style tag:
<mx:Style source="../../../css/yourCssFile.css"/>
It works fine, even for mxml nested in sub folders. Of
course, this is ugly- I had to put a bunch of ../'s just to reach
the css file I need, AND "refresh" the design view for it to
work...
And why this annoying warning message when I specifically
include the CSS into an mxml I want to use design view on?
"CSS type selectors are not supported in components."

MUSE CC WON'T DISPLAY BEBAS NEUE WEB FONT IN DESIGN MODE

For some reason I can't seem to view the Bebas Neue web font in design mode any more, yet when I switch to preview or even go ahead and publish my site it works just fine.
It wasn't bothering me too much at first but it really confuses things after a while as I have to guess the sizes and spacing because the font that appears instead of Bebas Neue is Times New Roman (or similar).
All the other web fonts are working just fine. I've tried to reset the web fonts and apply them again but had no luck, and I even closed and restarted Muse CC several times but again, nothing!

Perhaps Im going mad but my Nokia 60series emulator and 7650 device doesnt seem to support a font with face: MONOSPACE.
setting a font to MONOSPACE in the default WTK emulator correctly spaces all characters equally. However when I run my code on a Nokia emulator or device, the spaces of characters are unequal and their widths remain unchanged from the SYSTEM face settings.
If anyone can help with a solution or explanation, pleeezzzz

Not every device has every type of font. When you ask for a specific font, and the font doesn't exist then the system will find the best match for it.
The only way to be sure you have a monospace font on every device is that you include that font yourself, and draw your own characters using drawImage() with that font.

Preview Mode shows different page than design mode

When I am editing my page in Design mode in Muse CC, the page is approximately 700px long. When I preview that same page within Muse, it adds about 300px to the bottom of the page. There are no text boxes or other content that is causing the shift? Why are my webpages appearing different in the Preview panel than in my Design panel?

JMF has no support for H263 'b' or 'c-mode'?

Hello!
From what I've heard JMF should have full support for H263 codec (video). I tested a simple JMF based graphics application and streamed H263 'a-mode' RTP to the package and presented the result on a panel. It looked OK. Then I tested the other two H263 versions 'b' and 'c-mode'.
It looked absolutely horrible...absolutely unusable.
Doesnt JMF have full support for H263? In that case, how do I activate the full support?
If JMF itself doesnt have full support for H263, are there any available plugins that can be used to solve this?
Greatful for any help/hints and/or suggestions!

Hi Mikael,
I've read at the following place that JMF with Windows Performace Pack has support for mode B and C:

But I've actually made the same conclusion as you: it seems like JMF doesn't support mode B and C. One solution might be to create a pre-processing effect plug-in, which simply removes all mode B and mode C packets before they arrive to the codec!? RFC2190 (the H.263 RTP payload spec.) strongly recommends using mode A whenever possible. So, hopefully there aren't too much of the B and C packets, and hopefully such effect plug-in won't damage the video quality too much?

Multi-language Support for Different Users/Accounts

Does anyone know if iWork has international language support? That is to say, ideally the menus should reflect the language settings of the user. I like to work in English but my wife is more comfortable with Japanese. We share an imac G5 and would like to both use iWork, even if it means buying a family license, rather than two seperate versions.

Yes, iWork comes with both English and Japanese localizations and should switch automatically to Japanese if your wife's OS X account has the system language set to Japanese. You can probably also have it run in Japanese without the system being that way by unchecking English in the Languages tab of Get Info for the program you are using. One copy is fine.

Inexact Line Spacing for different fonts

The line spacing performs correctly with, for example, an Arial font. But when choosing a PostScript font like The Sans I have to adjust the Line Spacing to ".01" or ".02" instead of "1" to have a "normal" spacing.
This presents a problem when changing fonts or for selecting text, because I have to point the cursor one line down of the line I really need to select.
Does anybody know a workaround? Thanks.

Lists is a separate level of formatting from the paragraph style that you are trying to apply. Lists is applied over the paragraph style and controls the numbering systems and indents, it does not seem to extend to space before.
You will need to create a paragraph style for the leading top level and another for the following indented points.
You can however use:
Inspector > Text > More > Following Paragraph Style:
To set the indented points style to follow after you hit return on the top level style

Whenever I start up Firefox it will ask me to allow it load a certain font, it might do this 5 or 6 times for different fonts.

When ever I start up Firefox on my Mac it will ask me to allow it substitute another font .
It might do this 5 or 6 times while I am waiting for the browser to load.
It does not give me the option to Allow all of the time.

Support for OpenType Font with .otf Extention

Does anyone know how to list a OpenType fone with extention of .otf in Java runing on Windows XP?
When I use GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getAvailableFontFamilyNames(), it doesn't list any font names with .otf extention.

Underline support for embedded fonts

So I downloaded and quickly integrated Squiggly and it works very well. The only issue is that the underlines become skewed. The more lines there are in the TextArea, the more skewed they get. After ~30 lines it's actually an overline. Our fonts (pfm) are embedded through a precompiled Flash swf. I found this other thread which is marked as solved:

But that thread was originally dealing with a padding issue. Does anyone know if/when this issue is being addressed? Or is there something I can do mitigate the issue. When I switch to a non-embedded font the issue goes away.

While the padding issue got resolved, the bug with embedded fonts is still there. There is some problem when calculating the y coordination inside the TextField object.
As for workaround, this bug is only for mx.TextArea, if you can use the spark.TextArea this issue should go away.

IOS Asian font support for apps?

In iOS 6, Apple removed support for Asian fonts needed for pdfs whose Asian fonts are not actually embedded in the files.
Does anyone know if there is an app in the App store that contains these fonts that would make them available for other applications to use? Or would that be considered a change to the OS and not be allowed?
For myself, resaving these PDFs to embed the fonts is not a viable option - I have 2,000 of them on my iPad and not only is that more work than is worth, but it increases the size of each file by a factor of 10. Not only that but they open a lot slower (I tried it on one or two of them). It's a terrible idea if one has a lot of files.
I'm looking into other manufacturers' tablets to replace my iPad to see if they h, but if I can find an app that will let me keep my pad for the purpose for which I bought it, that would be even better.

Why is the character style for hyperlinks not displaying correctly in design mode/viewing/output?

I am using RH9 and generating WebHelp, and I needed to globally bump up the font size of just my hyperlinked text. I went into my Style Sheet > Character tab, changed the font size of the various character settings for hyperlinks, and clicked Apply and then OK. Normally, this would change all of my hyperlink text font sizes immediately across all of my topics. However, this time, it made no changes to any existing hyperlinked text, and it only affected new hyperlinks that I subsequently added. For the existing hyperlinks, I can only manually change the font size of the each hyperlink one at a time, but that's crazy (there's 100's in this help).
I can successfully change other characters styles and paragraph styles. This issue only affects the hyperlink character styles. It also shows up in all RH modes - Design mode, viewing, and in the final output.
Is this an indication of a corrupted style sheet or some other combination of events that I have yet to discover?

You probably have inline styling in your project overwriting the font size of your style sheet. How are you changing the font size of the individual hyperlinks?
There is a workaround for inline styling: Open your CSS in notepad and add !important after the font-size:
font-size: 4pt !important;
Note that this is a workaround, not a solution. As a solutions you can remove all the style attributes from your hyperlinks to force them to take the CSS styling again.
