Sync music error - file cant be transfered to new Iphone?

I just got a new Iphone 4s. Ive backed up my old 3gs and did a restore from back up. Everything went well, only the music is apperently not there.
I read somewhere that music is not included in the backup. So I want to fill up my new phone with my old playlists and albums from iTunes manually.
But when draging a list a get a messege that some of the songs 9most of them) cant be copied cause the iphone doesnt support this format???
These are the same songs I had on the 3gs...format didnt change...they worked yesterday on old iphone...
Had 3gs with ios5
now 4s
Itunes 10.5
syncing music manually via usb
Need some ideas fast, cause I have to teach a dance class today and need my music. Thanks!

Hi sezobrien,
If you are able to locate the files (perhaps from a backup) and are still having issues syncing, you may find the following user tip helpful:

  • HT201250 unable to sync music on itunes from macbook laptop to new iphone 5

I just bought iphone 5. my mac book is OS X version 10.5.8.
Prolem is I am trying to sync music from itunes as i did in iphone 4, but unable to do it because it requires itunes 10.7 and Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later. What I have to do now?? Why iphone 5 is not compatible with my existing itunes as I did on iphone4??

Because in designing the iPhone 5 Apple needed to use an Updated version of iTunes in order to offer all the new features that the iPhone 5 offers.  This is discussed in a Support Article on the Mac's OS X Requirements for syncing with the iPhone 5.  Apple has always had to update its Apps and OS's in order to offer new features.  You just haven't Upgraded your Mac and its version of OS X in a long time.  Now would be a good time.
    Hope this helps

  • Sync music from ipod shuffle on itunes to new iphone

I have over 300 songs that show up on my itunes account that I have purchased over the past many years. When I sync my iphone to my itunes account, only music that I have purchased since purchasing my ipad a couple years ago will download on my iphone.  How do I get my older music about 200 songs to download to my phone?

    Hello khollyoak,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iTunes: Transferring media from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or iPod

Music purchased from the iTunes Store
    Transfer your content via iTunes.
Download your content through iTunes in the Cloud1.
Download your content through iTunes Match2.
Music imported from a CD or another source
iTunes cannot transfer this media back to a computer. Make sure to back up your iTunes Library, or you can use iTunes Match2.
    Best of luck,

I am using my old iPhone for playlist for my Dad's funeral as that meets the crematorium requirements. Some tracks - uploaded from personal CDs to MacBook Pro and successfully transferred to new iPhone (with small doc) won't transfer on syncing.  Most do, but why won't some, of my own music sync when others off the same album and in the same playlist do? I have now checked the storage, freed up 766MB, how can i not sync (and get everything i've just deleted back) but upload the required tunes? All help appreciated, many thanks x x x

maybe this post by Zevoneer helps.
I don’t want to hear any of that “iTunes will let you re-download anything you’ve lost” nonsense.
it won't anyways. except or apps, you are entitled to one download only. there4 it is important to back up.

If you live in the US launch the iTunes store, then tap Purchases, then the "not on this phone" tab. If you don't live in the US you will have to buy them again, unless the iTunes Store support staff takes pity on you when you email them with a request for help.
BTW, how many songs can you download between daily syncs?

  • I have an iphone 4S with broken wifi (!) and I need to sync my contacts before I set up my new iphone 6. I thought contacts synced automatically with itunes but seems not.  I've found my Apple address book but contacts are outdated. What to do? Help!

I have an iphone 4S with broken wif i :-( and I need to sync my contacts before I set up my new iphone 6. I thought contacts synced automatically with itunes but seems not.  I've found my Apple address book but contacts are outdated. What to do? Help!

If your Bluetooth is working, you may be able to tether your phone to another device, and backup that way.  Either via iCloud or one of many Apps that send yourself a VCF file containing your contacts.
You may have to update to a later IOS via USB and iTunes, not sure if IOS 6 has Bluetooth Tethering.
I would have thought you could also switch off cloud sync'ing for your contacts, this should ask a question if you want to keep the contacts on your phone.  An iTunes Backup and then Restore to your new iPhone should restore the local contacts.  Then sync these back to the iCloud.
    Hope this helps.

  • Syncing music error/warning

I have an iPod and iPhone - I have so far kept my music on my very ancient iPod and not on my iPhone. I would now like to sync my music to my iPhone (as well if possible) but when I connect my iPhone to iTunes on my iMac and try to tick the Sync Music box I get the following warning:-
Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing content on the iPhone “Pat Schafer’s iPhone” will be removed and replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library.
To me this means that it will sync my music but all my apps will be removed.  Can anyone help explain this to me.

Whenever you sync with an iTunes library for the first time it will remove any iTunes media from the phone and replace it with the media in the iTunes library you are syncing with.  You can, however, take steps to transfer purchased content such as music purchased from the iTunes store and apps purchased from the app store to your iTunes library prior to this so it is simply synced back to your phone.  This article will explain the steps you can take to minimize or avoid data loss:  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.

  • Sync music error msg/ new iPhone

just got a new iPhone 4; trying to sync music from iTunes and receive message that it is already synced with another library; how can it be synced with any other library when it is new
note: bought first one and had a problem, had to return; this is the replacement; had no trouble syncing apps and music to the first one.  what am I doing wrong?  something to do with the sync to first phone?

i read lots of suggestions and tried a few things but what seemed to work for me was clicking on Autofill on the iTunes [this iPhone] sync page.

    Hi,
I have recently updated my iTunes to the latest version in order to sync music onto my new ipod shuffle. However after a successful installation the application does not launch or open? There are no error messages. The application is just unresponsive.
I have already checked the compatibility with Safari, my operating system and checked my firewall is not blocking it - all is fine.
Does anyone have any other resolutions?
    Many thanks

    Hi Carolyn,
Thank you for your time and response. The trouble is I am unable to launch iTunes? I have restarted my macbook air a number of times to try and initiate the application but the issue persists and the application remains unresponsive. Will not launch?

  • How do I transfer or sync music from a Ipod Nano to a new computer?

I have a new computer and have installed ITunes on it.  An existing Ipod Nano has my music files.  How do I sync or transfer the music from the Nano, so I can use those files on my Iphone?

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod Nano. And here is a guide about how to sync music from iPod nano back to computer. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.
