Sync Palm M on Vista

I bought a new computer running Vista Home Premium (32 bit).  I have a Palm M series running desktop software v.4.0.1.  I am able to look at the material
I have already put on the Palm (using my old Windows 2000 computer), but I cannot sync my Palm.   I already downloaded  the 6.2 software, but it does not work.  I also downloaded  the PalmHotSync application.  But, it keeps asking me for a user name, and I am afraid that it will only sync one of the users on my Palm which has many users.  I want to sync the entire Palm.  And once I use this software, will it backup what I put on the Palm?  Which desktop software will it use.

Your Palm has only one HotSync name associated with it.  That is the name you need to enter.
Open the Hotsync app. and look in the top right corner for the name.   This should sync the entire amount of data to your PC.

  • Syncing Palm in Vista

I have a Palm Treo 755p that I would like to sync with Oracle Calendar. The computer being used has Vista and Office 2007 installed. Palm Desktop 6.2.2 with Hotsync 7.0.2 is also installed. I have found that Oracle Calendar Sync does not work with this setup so I have configured Oracle Connector for Outlook and Hotsync Outlook conduits. I am able to sync this way but have run in to issues with duplicate calendar entries and contacts. I am in a support environment where some customers do not use Outlook but still want to sync to OCAL. I am curious what other people are using and their thoughts on syncing Palm products with OCAL through Vista.

You should use syncml and sync directly with the server.

If you have a data plan, and don't need outlook, then just get Synthesis Syncml for $22.
Not sure if the Palm version of the conduits would work with your Treo though. When I had a Palm PDA, they never failed on me. Outlook on the other hand - ugh...

  • Sync and 64-bit Vista

I have a Palm TX and Vista 64-bit, and having sync problems (not recognizing the device when I attempt to sync).  I couldn't install the original/old version of the software (v 4.1.2, I think), and downloaded v 6.2.  It installed, but can't sync.  I did try what so many of you said worked for you by opening Palm as an administrator, but that made no difference for me.  If anyone knows of any other solutions, it would be appreciated.

So long as your pc is running 32-bit Vista, you can use your m100 with it by downloading and installing the new (and free) PalmHotsyncSetup utility from www.pimlicosoftware.com along with the Palm Desktop 6.2.2 which is available for download here.
If your computer is running 64-bit Vista you are probably out of luck.

  • HT2553 My ipod classic 160gb cannot be synced by my windows vista. the library is copied alright but cannot be synced into the ipod; HELP! !

My ipod classic 160gb cannot be synced by my windows vista computer. The library is copied alright, but the ipod cannot be synced; Help! How can I overcome this, please?

    Hi, Chris,
    I mean, when I load my itune library as usual and the syncing starts, I get the problem as described as follows;
When I try to sync, I see the songs being copied then I get a message, say after about 45minutes, that, itunes cannot read the ipod contents because the ipod data drive is corrupt. I have tried different things to no avail. It is very fraustrating, and if I may say so, very disturbing.
I hope somebody can help me, for I can see now that, many people have got similar problems and they haven't been able to solve. I understand this is a common ipod problem and many people have had to abandone their ipods after such problems. It is very hurting because ipods are very expensive to buy, and so to write it off like that is very dis-heartening.

  • Photo sync problem with Windows Vista?

I did some searching and was wondering if there is a solution to the photo sync problem with Windows Vista. I have gone the route of changing some of my photos to bitmap files but this is was way too much work just to view on ipod. I like to email Apple but could not find a link to do so. As far as I know I have all updates but still the iPod does not sync photos. Is there an update to this that I am missing or am I stuck changing all my photos to .bmp files?
    Thanks,
    Dean.

I checked out the article and not much help, thanks anyway.
Would it make a difference if I purchased Adobe Photo Album or would I still be stuck with changing and saving files to .bmp extensions? I have Adobe Photoshop album starter but still have to change file extensions.
If someone has a solution to this problem I would really be greatfull. I did contact Dell as this is a brand new computer and that was a wash. They did give me a number for Apple but of course I bought the iPod off of ebay and has no warranty on it so unless I pay a fee I'm not calling. It just blows my mind that Microsoft and Apple can't or won't come up with a fix. But I guess when Microsoft wants you to buy the Zune or Apple wants you to buy the overpriced Macintosh why would they waste time on having there products compatible with each other.
    Thanks.

  • Sync Palm m500 to Mac OS 10.4.3. Possible?

I've just moved from using Mac OS 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 and I'd like to sync my "old" Palm m500 to it. With the previous OS I had Conduit manager v 3.2 and I could sync with no problems whatsoever. Now I wonder if I can sync Palm m500 with Tiger. I've been checking in Palm and Apple sites but I haven't found any useful information. Reading some of your comments in the forum I realize I might have problems using the new version of isync. On top of that I know my Palm is not precisely the latest model, but it works so well I don't fancy buying a new one. Can somebody help? Thanks.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Palm recommends that for the m500 series of handheld organizers, that you install the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 version A, available here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421.html
With this handheld, you need not first install software from the CD-ROM that was supplied with your device, as it does not contain unique software for your device.
After installing the Palm Desktop, Apple recommends that you first synchronize with it prior to configuring and using iSync. Once you've done that, launch iSync and select Enable Palm OS Syncing… from the Devices menu, and follow the instructions which appear. At the conclusion of this step, your device will appear in iSync. You can then press the Palm icon in its main window to drop down a configuration pane, which lets you specify how iSync interacts with specific contact groups and calendars.
If you intend to synchronize with other devices, including .Mac, you should also open the Preferences… dialog under the iSync menu, and check or enable all three options under the General tab. Then, each time you synchronize, you should…
    • launch iSync
    • select Sync Now from beneath the Sync Status icon in your menu bar, and
    • press you HotSync button when prompted to do so by the dialog
And, when you've successfully done all this - and find youself unhappy with the manner in which iSync performs - you should consider purchasing and installing the far more flexible, robust, feature-rich and reliable synchronization software from Mark/Space: The Missing Sync for Palm OS. More information about that package is available here:
    http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php
One caution: The Missing Sync for Palm OS should be installed only after you have successfully synchronized at least once with both the Palm Desktop and with iSync.

  • Smooth switch from Pylon Conduits to XTNDConnect PC, to sync Palm with Lotus Notes

I've used Pylon Conduits (software purchased from sybase.com) for years, to sync my Palm Zire 72 (Palm OS 5.0) with Lotus Notes at work.  I also used HotSync to sync the Palm with my home computer's Palm Desktop.  Essentially a 3-way calendar sync, very convenient!
There was a documented Pylon problem with recurring entries turning into duplicate entries, and there were occasions where I'd delete an entry from one calendar that didn't stay deleted after sync'ing.  However, all in all, my imperfect 3-way sync was worthwhile.  At least the entries erred on the side of caution--better too many than not enough.
Sadly, I learned, Pylon issued an "end of life" notice earlier this year.  After my office pushed down a patch that messed with Pylon, I was recently forced to find other conduit software.  EasySync was recommended to me, but I can't remember what flaw prevented my using it--maybe it wouldn't sync Lotus Notes recurring entries at all?  Can't remember.
Anyway, with low expectations, I tried XTNDConnect PC software (another sybase.com product, $60, to replace Pylon).  For what I use it for (calendar, to-do, memos), XTNDConnect PC is marvelous, better than Pylon Conduits!  Simple, yet powerful.  I guess it's pronounced "extendConnect PC," but I will ignore the cumbersome name.  Its conduits are not just for Palm and not just for Lotus Notes either, but when you tell it what you're using it for, it is so friendly as to show only your relevant options.
XTNDConnect PC handles recurring entries nicely.  And it addresses how Contacts fields differ in Palm vs. Lotus Notes:  It shows how/which fields are mapped by default, plus it allows you to customize field mapping for all Contacts fields.
One change I had to figure out was that while Pylon sync'd Palm's "Memos" with Lotus Notes email "Drafts" folder, XTND instead syncs Palm's "Memos" with a Lotus Notes "Journal" database (which I had to establish and bookmark on my work computer).  No big, once I figured out what was going on.  I got some help from XTNDConnect PC customer service--free by email, and responsive within hours.
I saw in perhaps old specs for XTND that for email, you have to install some additional software (to supplement XTND) if you're syncing a Palm using OS higher than 3.0.  However, I can't say anything more about this because I don't use the email conduit.

  • "Port In Use" error message when trying to sync Palm m500 to Windows Vista machine

An error message on my Palm displays "Error: Serial Port in Use (Serial 0307)" when I try to sync my Palm m500 to my Windows Vista (32 bit) Home Basic machine. It worked until about 3 months ago and I don't have a restore point that far back to try System Restore. I've upgraded to Palm Desktop 6.2.2 (was using 4.xx) and downloaded the PalmHotSyncSetup from Pimlico Software but nothing helps. Any ideas are appreciated.
    Post relates to: Palm m500

I would try connecting the Palm's cradle, with the Palm in it, to your PC and then, in Device Manager, right-clicking on Palm Handheld #2 and selecting Uninstall Driver.  Palm Handheld/Palm Handheld #1 could be visible if you connect the Palm to USB port you may have tried using perviously.
After uninstalling Palm Desktop, reboot the PC, make sure Palm Desktop 6.2.2 is installed (since you are using Vista) and then try reconnecting the Palm.
One last thing: Make sure that you are using a 32-bit version of Windows.  There is no 64-bit USB driver support from Palm or ACCESS.  If you do have a 64-bit version of Windows Vista installed, that would clearly explain why you are having so much trouble getting your m500-series PDA to sync. This thread tells you how to check for a 32 or 64-bit install of Windows.

I really enjoy using this equipment.  I use my PDA for all my scheduling of work shifts appts etc. I would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks in advance. Mike.
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Hi..  Welcome to the Palm forums.  So if I am understanding you when you try to sync it goes to calendar and freezes and never completes the sync.  That being the case the first thing you want to do is go to the conduits and turn off calendar then sync and all should be successful, except calendar will not sync.  What this indicates is that you have corrupted data in your calendar, most likely on the E2.  Do a google search on your computer for a utility 'dbfixit' and download it to your computer.  Extract it so you have the dbfixit.prc file and double click on it to put it in the installer.  Then, insuring the calendar conduit is off, sync to install it.  Once installed run dbfixit.  This utility is free or can be purchased for (I believe) 12.95.  The free version will search for corruption and problems let you know where they are and you will have to manually fix or delete them.  If you register it, when you run the utility it will find the errors and fix them as well.  Once all errors are fixed, turn the calendar conduit back on and you should be able to sync.
