Syncing both our iphones to one imac

Probably pretty simple, but... I just bought my wife an iPhone 5.  What is the best way to sync it to my iMac where I have all our pictures and music stored?  I would like to keep her pics and songs and contacts separate from mine.

Decide which ID will be the primary iCloud ID. For example, I chose my iCloud ID to be the primary iCloud ID for both devices and the Mac to receive the Photostream.  (Since iCloud IDs dont cost anything - you could set up a new one just for this purpose - which would have the added advantage that the other iDevices will not be able to access the email for the primary iCloud ID)
On your device (let's call it the primary) turn on iCloud and ahve all the toggles you require set to on.
Delete the existing iCloud ID from your wife's device.
Sign in to iCloud on your wife's device with your (or the newly created iCloud ID)
On your wife's device turn OFF all the mail, calendar, contact toggles (so that your wife doesnt get all your personal content - emails, contacts, calendars etc) in the iCloud panel
Create a new Mail account in the Mail, Contacts, Calendars on your wife's device with her iCloud ID so that she can receive email, calendars etc.
On the Mac - use your iCloud ID as the primary iCloud ID. This will ensure Photostream content arrives.
If your wife primarily uses this Mac - do the same set up performed on iDevice - ie turn off mail, contact, calendars in iCloud and create a new Mail Account in system preferences with the email address.
Hope that helps

  • How to sync multiple iPods & iPhones to one iMac?

Ok, so my problem is that my whole family syncs their Apple electronics to one computer and we all get our information mixed up. For example, my notes end up on my brother's iPod while my dad's contacts, end up on my iPod. Please help me get this all straightened out?? Thank you!

Can you sync two 4S iPhones to one PC and iTunes account?

No you don't. You log into iTunes with your Apple ID but you can use one Apple ID for iTunes and a different Apple ID for iCloud. On your device go:
Settings > iCloud > Delete Account and sign in with a new Apple ID
This will only change the Apple ID for iCloud and both devices will continue to download apps and backup to the shared iTunes account.

    Hi julian KAYE!
You will want to make sure that both your computer and phone have all options checked in the “Start new conversations from” section in your Messages settings:
    iOS: Using Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3529
You can change the address that new iMessage conversations are started with in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Start new conversations from. Note that this setting applies only to new conversations. If you would like to change the address from which messages are sent, first change this setting, and then delete the existing conversation and start a new one.

purchased songs wont sync to my iphone from my imac--shows grayed checkmarks for each one

If the songs are greyed out, you may have set up automatic syncing with a different iTunes library.
Set your iPod to sync manually, as described here:

After syncing once with your current iTunes library, you can set it back to autimatic sync.

  • How do we sync contacts and calendars (ONLY) between two iCloud accounts, two iPhones and one iMac with two user accounts?

This is complex.  Until today we had one iMac with two user accounts - one for me and the other for my wife.  We sync'd our calendars and contacts between our two user accounts using my iCloud account, thereby keeping our schedules coordinated and our contacts information always the same between us.  Also, as I had an iPhone, I sync'd my phone with my iCloud account, thereby keeping the contacts and calendars in the two user accounts on the iMac AND my iPhone sync'd.  (I also sync'd other things, like Notes and Mail and Safari settings, between my iPhone and my user account on the iMac, but my wife did not want to be burdened with all my emails showing up in her email account and I wasn't interested in hers, etc., so we didn't sync anything between us other than calendars and contacts.)
We've finally bought my wife an iPhone and set up an iCloud account for her.  And of course she now wants to sync several items from HER account on our iMac to HER iPhone, but I don't want them, just as she doesn't want all of my other stuff.  But we still want our mutual calendars and contacts to sync to HER new iPhone, just like they already do to mine.  But I can't figure out how to CHANGE her iMac user account from using MY iCloud account on the iMac to using HER new iCloud account, and then having HER iCloud account speak to MY iCloud account but share JUST our calendars and contacts.
Originally I tried a workaround by simply having her iPhone log into my iCloud account.  That works great for the calendars and the contacts.  But...she can't sync anything else from her iMac account to her new iPhone because she's presently "forced" to use my iCloud account.  And neither of us want to sync our other things to each other's iMac accounts or iPhones.  Also as we're both using my iCloud account, in things like the Find My iPhone app, the Cloud is seeking two phones labeled with my name and none with her's.  So we definitely don't want this as the set-up and communications network between our devices.
We want to set up our users on the iMac to sync to our SEPARATE AND DIFFERENT iCloud accounts and then have those iCloud accounts sync calendars and contacts (ONLY) between themselves, and then push that data to our separate iPhones (or the other way, from either of our iPhones to the individual accounts on our iMac and the other person's iPhone).  Does this description make sense to you?  I've diagramed it nicely using Keynote, but even thiough I can draw it, I can't figure out how to set up and configure all the devices to make it work.  If you would like me to send the Keynote slides (just two of them - the current and desired configurations - please send your email address to me at [email protected] and I'll be happy to forward it to you.
If anyone can help me set this up I'd be most appreciative!  Thanks so much.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all readers in this community!

    BobT.
I had the same problem, and decided to look into it last night.
First of all, the solution I would like to have is for Apple to allow for selection of iCloud accounts per application, i.e. Contacts to one, Photo Stream to another. I believe this would be the most straight forward solution for the problem we are facing.
Since this is not an option I came up with a workaround. I was most interested in solving this for Contacts, so this is what I tested for. Now I have all 3 devices with the same contacts.
    1) Turn off iCloud for Contacts on all devices. On the device that has the Contacts list that you would like to propagate to all others select to keep the contacts, and on the others select not to keep them.
Note that the current backups still exist on iCloud, so in case something goes wrong you can still turn the iCloud for Contacts back on to get your current Contacts back.
    2) In iTunes, sync All Contacts with the phones, starting with the one with the Contacts content you chose to keep.
From this point on, the 3 devices should sync contacts with each other.
This, of course, will stop your iCloud backups of Contacts, but I don't think this is really needed. You are already storing copies of your Conacts on 3 devices, which for good parts of the day are likely not all co-located. You also potentially have Time Machine backups turned on, which would mean there is a 4th copy there as well. For the case of Contacts iCloud only complicates matter ... that is until Apple implements the solution I first wrote about.

  • Two iPhones On One iMac- Only One Set of Apps Sync

    Hi,
So my fiancee and I both have iPhone 3G's that we sync to our new 24" iMac. However, we have found that it only backs up my Apps onto the computer and not hers.
So if I download a new App on my iPhone, next time I sync that App will show up under Applications in iTunes. But if she does the same thing, it will not show up. Obviously, we would like all applications to backup to the computer.
One work around probably would be to only download Apps on the computer and then select which Apps to sync to each iPhone. However this means that she can not backup apps she downloads on her iPhone.
    Any thoughts?

Nope not at all, basically whats going on here is that when you make an itunes store account, even if it was made on that computer it does not mean that that computer is authorized to use that itunes store account. iTunes store accounts can be used on up to five computers at any given time and on as many devices as you wish. What you are going to want to do is to go the the store menu and the very very top of itunes where it has your file and edit menus and choose store >authorize computer and authorize the other account, then if it is still not transferring automatically, choose file>transfer purchases from iphone. that will create a back up of the purchases on the computer. Remember that apps can be downloaded as many times as you wish whereas songs have to be requested to be redownloaded. It is generally only ever a regrant of the entire library and is usually only done once unless under specific circumstances as there are grants that have to be downloaded to the artists each time the song is downloaded which costs apple money. so be sure to back up your purchases elsewhere. my best suggestion is always backing up to a disk as a CD can not crash. right click on purchases and choose back up to disc and it will continue to ask for CDs until all of your purchases are backed up.

  • Syncing 2 iPhones on one iMac

    Hi,
My wife and i recently bought 2 iPhones. On her's she obvisously created her own Apple ID.
We are using one iMac in order to sync both phones. Here is where my question comes in:
is there a way of syncing 2 iPhones with two Apple IDs on one Mac? Currently when my wife syncs her iPhone on the mac all my apps end up on her phone together with the ones that she already has.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

Sure. Just make sure each one of you has a different user login on the Mac. That way, each will have their own private iTunes Library and no further data sharing will occur.
Needless to say, together with your own personal Mac login, you'll be setting iTunes to connect with your personal AppleID.

  • Two iPhones on one iMac

My wife and I purchased two 3G iPhones this week. Her computer is a PC with Media Center as the O/S and iTunes will not work in that environment. I can find no manual or other instructions on how to set up both of our phones on my iMac 24. Any suggestions?

It should work on your mac. I know that I have several ipods and each one syncs separately. If I hook up my old 2nd get ipod it shows up (with the picture) and if I hook up my blue mini, it knows it and I can sync it separately. When you hook up your iPhone it should show up as your phone, when you hook up your wife's phone it should show up as her phone (with the name of the owner). It is a different number and device, itunes should be able to tell the difference. The only issue would be the apps you buy. Not sure if each phone has to buy a separate version.
I just thought of this. If that doesn't work, you should set up a separate user account for your wife. Have her sign it to her account and then connect her phone. You use your account. Each one has a separate version of iTunes. The only problem is that she will have her own address book, etc. This could be a hassle. Maybe someone else who actually has tried using 2 phones will anwer you.
    Good luck.

  • How to sync two different iPhones on one iTunes?

  • Syncing contacts from iPhone back to iMac (Entourage)

Briefly, after both my Time Machine and hard drive failed, I lost all my data. My Entourage contacts re-main on my iPhone, and I want to sync them back to Entourage. I understand the process of "merging,"but I have run into a few obstacles: I am using the latest version of iTunes (7.6.2), by the way. First, under Preferences, I have no options available under "Syncing." Then, when I connect my iPhone, and select "Info," I have no options here, either. I do have a number of contacts in Entourage in my iMac, but, apparently, iTunes no longer recognizes the existence of this program, so I can go no-
where. (My Entourage Contacts have been duplicated in my Address Book, but that doesn't show up, either. Something must be terribly corrupted.) I'm both frustrated and perplexed, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. pah

Something to check when syncing contacts from iphone back to computer, make sure to open address book and enter at least one contact.
Then when you connect the iphone, you should get a message asking if you want to merge the data.
Click merge and this should copy all contacts from the iphone back into address book.
the same goes with ical also.
Make sure there is at least one event in ical.
Now to move the data in address book and ical to entourage is set in the entourage preferences in the sync services section.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sync few different iPhones on one Computer?

    Hello from Germany,
my wife and I have two different iPones 4 and we also have different settings and of course different music taste but we use just one computer with iTunes together. If we sync our iphones the computer see the different names but will sync both phones in the same way. Is there a way to have different settings to sync every iPhone individual (music, emails, contacts and so on)???
    Thank you for help
    Markus

The absolute best way to do this is to create separate computer logins. That way there is absolutely no way your data can become intermingled. You can still use the same iTunes account under each login, and transfer iTunes content(using your phones) between logins, without syncing. If you disable auto-sync under preferences, you can connect each others phone and use the File>Transfer Purchases command to transfer iTunes content between logins. Doing things this way will insure your contacts, mail, etc., are completely separate. Make sure you authorize the computer under each login: Store>Authorize this Computer.
