Syncing contacts without Icloud

I have zero interest in Icloud... I have different things on my Iphone than on my computer and on and on..bla bla bla  I don't want the phone syncing with Icloud and often shut off the access to the phone when traveling and such for security reasons.. isn't there a way that I can just transfer my contacts and mail info only when plugged into my computer anymore?  geesh  why would I WANT to use Icloud when i can just plug it in and it'll trandfer faster and safer?

With that sort of fear, you have no business with a smart phone or with one that connects to the internet in any capacity.
You darn sure don't speak for the millions of users out there.
I'm no "big exec" type but I have a Mac at home, personal iPhone, business iPhone, personal iPad, and business desktop PC at my office. I'm able to sync my business Exchange account email, contacts, calendar events, notes, and reminders over the air with my business PC, personal Mac at home, and with all iOS devices without needing to connect all iOS devices to my PC at work and to my Mac at home on a daily basis, and the same for my personal iCloud account that is accessed on all.
You mean to tell me what I do is unusual among the millions of users throughout the world and is only for the "big exec" types, and how about for those without a computer that use an iPad in its place along with an iPhone?
If you have a Mac running OS X 10.9, you are no longer able to sync contacts direct with the address book or contacts app via the iTunes sync process, and email account mailboxes and email has never been synced with iTunes and never will.

  • Sync contacts without iCloud

My G5 with OSX 10.5.8 can't be upgraded further and is my main computer. Is there a work around to sync my iPhone 4 with address book contacts and calender without using iCloud? Is there a third party software that lets contacts and calendar events to be sync? P/S a newer computer is in the works but not just yet.

    Sync using iTunes instead.

  • How to Sync contacts to iCloud from ios4

How do I sync contacts to iCloud from my iOS 4 iPad?

I don't believe that is possible.
iCloud was released after iOS 4.  And your iPhone 3G cannot run any iOS past iOS 4.2.1.  So you're out of luck until you purchase a newer iPhone.

  • IMPORT OR SYNC CONTACTS TO iCLOUD

HOW DO YOU IMPORT OR SYNC CONTACTS TO iCLOUD? DO NOT MEAN UPLOAD vCARD, BUT SYNC WITH EXISTING CONTACTS LIST

    a) Export them to CSV in the googlemail web page, then import this file into Thunderbird's Address Book. Take care to align the data fields.
    b) Use an add-on such as Google Contacts or gContactSync to create a live link. I refer the latter add-on; both have to contend with a fundamental mismatch in the way googlemail and thunderbird handle street addresses. This synchronizing approach is much the better way if you are trying to keep multiple address books in synch. I found it worthwhile to create a googlemail account purely for the purpose of associating a phone-related address book with my phone, which doesn't ''need'' all the email addresses, street addresses etc, nor all the contacts for whom I know only an email address but no phone number.

  • HT204150 how can i sync contacts from icloud to my iphone from pc

how can i sync contacts from icloud to my iphone from pc

I just went to icloud-contacts- OFF.  It asks if I want to keep my contacts on the phone and I said yes.
Thanks so much.  Saved me a ton of time.
One thing I noticed though is for my name, it used to have an image of a person.  That is gone now on my phone but on my computer.  Is that only in iCloud?

  • Sync iPhone contacts without iCloud by using Bittorrent Sync?

iCloud (or iTunes) has messed up my contacts again, duplicating and altering some. Bittorrent Sync is highly recommended for syncing folders between multiple devices without going through any cloud server. It would be perfect for syncing contacts but it's not possible to find the contacts data on an iPhone. Is there a way?

  • Why can I no longer sync iCal and contacts without iCloud?

I dont use iCloud basically because by doing so all your data - specifically your contacts and calendar - gets uploaded to an Apple server where it sits for ever. If you decide you want to stop using iCloud (like you decide for some weird reason to use windows instead...or you move somewhere where there's no internet - its possible) it deletes your data from the device you have unsubscribed from. This basically means once you are on iCloud there is no going back. Apple basically acts as if it owns you and your data and inorder to access it (excude me but my calender and contacts list belongs to me) its obligitory to use Apple and iCloud...if you dont it gets deleted and is gone for ever.
So I sync via USB/WiFi...but now after 'upgrading' to Mavericks this option is no longer permitted? You MUST use iCloud.....WHY?? - I dont want to!
I run a business and use iCal to make all my business bookings - these used to sync easily between my iPad and my iMac. Now it doesnt unless I hand over the rights to all my data for all enternity to Apple inc.
This is my stuff and it doesnt belong to Apple - I want to keep it that way
How can I sync iCal and Contacts without signing away ownership of my diary and contacts to Apple?
Am I going to have to ditch my Mac?? Why wasnt this more widely publicized??
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply Arthur. Actually, I just got off the phone with an apple rep telling me you can't downgrade, and that yes, apple actually IS forcing you to use iCloud - if, that is, you actually want to be able to sync your contacts or calendar. Apparently you are special and know something different, so please enlighten the rest of us.
    Here is one way

    Here is another

    Here is yet another
If your Mavericks came with anything other than Mavericks pre-installed
OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version
Also there are a host of other Cloud services you can use. You do not have to use iCloud at all. Although there ARE over 320+ million iCloud presently active, so it is extremely popular with users.

  • Forced to sync contacts in iCloud?

I signed into iCloud so that I could have my calendar, but I unchecked everything else, including contacts. But, anytime I return to iCloud in preferences Contacts is checked. More annoying, now in Mail I have the VIP mailbox. I've removed my contacts from VIP, trashed the plists, signed out of iCloud, but I can't get rid of that **** VIP mailbox. Is it possible or am I stuck with it now? Is there not a way to have my calender sync without having to sync contacts?

  • Selectively syncing contacts to iCloud using Outlook?

A customer of mine is having issues syncing her Outlook 2003 contacts with her iPhone and iPad using iCloud. Personally, i only use iCloud for my iPod Touch, and have had no personal experience with syncing contacts or using Outlook to do so.
I assisted her remotely in upgrading her iPhone 3GS to iOS 5, and during the initial iCloud setup, i'm not sure what she did, but it ended up pulling all of the contacts from her husband's Outlook profile into her iPhone, and from there to iCloud, and her iPad. She freaked out, and when i assured her that it could be fixed just by turning the Contacts syncing in iCloud off, it also removes her current phone numbers and such saved prior to the update.
Her Outlook 2003 is set up with two profiles, one for her husband and one for her. Each profile has it's own contacts databases, but iTunes is syncing it from her husband's, despite no defaults being set. She, of course, wants the contacts from her Outlook account synced instead of her husband's, but Outlook 2003 cannot export contacts to the vCard format, which would be the obviously easiest way to import them into iCloud, using the web portal.
What would be the best course of action? Sadly, upgrading her PC wouldn't be worth the money at this point, it's an aged machine, and running Windows XP, so the iCloud control panel isn't compatible, and has to be accessed through the web portal.

As far as I can tell, there is not one post anywhere on this forum about how to get contacts from outlook into icloud via importing vcards or any other method.  Nobody who knows anything at icloud is on this forum.

  • IPad can't sync contacts with iCloud

I need some help....  I have an iMac running Mtn Lion (10.8.2) and an iPad3 (6.0.1) and I'm trying to sync the two in iCloud.  Contacts are giving me a headache.  I've got the contacts into iCloud so I went to iTunes, clicked on the iPad and went to "info".  Thought everything was OK but no contacts (actually there are a couple) on the IPad.  Went back to iTunes and clicked on the iPad. went to "info" and now there is no box to check next to "Sync Contacts" and the message in the box says  "Your contacts are being synced with you iPad over the air from iCloud" and "Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on your iPad."  My contacts are syncing (iPad) with iCloud and I can't figure out to get the check box back so I can choose to sync my contacts.  I know there are other threads out there with similar questions but I couldn't find anything that helped me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Correction....my iPad contacts are NOT syncing with iCloud

  • ITunes: where is the option to sync music without iCloud ????

I have 3000+ songs in my iTunes account on my mac Mini
I upgraded to iO6 and now, the only option I have to sync my music that I see is with iCloud.  I no longer have an option to sync the music on my computer directly to my iPhone.
iClould doesn't work at 41,000' with no wi-fi and no cell service, or when I am camping in remote areas.
Where is the option in iTunes to sync music from a computer to a iPhone or other device?
    Thanks for the help folks.

    Thanks sberman.
    I have iTunes 10.7 (21)
I don't have Mountain Lion, and there is no option to "Sync Music" when I plug my iPhone in.  I have had a Powerbook G4 since 2005, and have being using iTunes since 2005 with multiple iPods, iPhones.
There simply isn't an option to sync my music with my iPhone 4S.
I do see the ability to sync contacts, photos, but when I click on the music tab under iTunes, I see this image:
I have never seen this option before and would love to see the option to "Sync All Music", "Syn All Playlist" and "Sync Selected Playlists" or whateve the old screen options where.
Do you really think this is a iOS 10.7.5 issue vs 10.8 (Mountain Lion)?
Thank you very much for your replies.

  • IOS 6.1.2 updated- tried to Sync contacts with iCloud- All contacts gone

Help. I just updated the IOS to latest: 6.1.2 then decided to backup contacts on iCloud. When 'Merged' all contacts from phone are gone. Then I went on iCloud and the contact list there was also EMPTY. Strange enough the calendar and Notes backup were all there, but NOT contacts. I tried turning off the iCloud, etc- but can not get my contact list back--- HELP. Is this a clitch with the new IOS??

Thanks for your response, I'm a little confused though...
My iCloud account is set up in settings.  If the iCloud backup doesn't backup my contacts why is there an option to turn contacts on or off in the iCloud account?  And how are they "only synced if you had your icloud account in the mail/contact settings" if icloud doesnt backup contacts?  I don't think I understand that part of your response.

  • Cannot sync contacts from icloud

I've looked for a tutorial on syncing conacts fron icloud to my ios 7 device (iphone 4s.)  However, each tutorial I've seen mentions that I should be prompted to "merge" my contacts via pop-up on my phone.  I do not receive that message, so I am at a loss as to how to sync my contacts over.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Well...I just implemented the classic head-scratching tech fix.  I turned my phone off and when I powered back on the contacts were still not there.  However after about 15-30 seconds they came back.
In any event, thanks for the help, randers4...if nothing else, you helped me maintain my sanity for the past several minutes!

  • Syncing contact without their titles (Mr, Mrs, etc.)?

Does anyone know if there any way to sync contacts with titles (Mr, Mrs, etc.) in Address Book to iPhone but without the titles?
I have full details in AB because I need to generate complete labels, but I don't need the titles in iPhone. In fact, having 'The Reverend Professor Sir John Doe' is quite unhelpful, because I often can't see the person's name if the field is truncated!
I realise I could remove all the titles from AB, but that would create a problem when I generate labels.
Ideally what I'd like is to have:
Address book < sync to > iPhone
Mr Person One <-------> Person One
Dr Person Two <-------> Person Two
I guess it can't easily be done, but if I'd love to find out that I'm wrong.
    Thanks in advance.

Hello, thank you anyway for being of some assistance.
I've checked the email and it is [email protected] is that the right email? I completely forgot it might not have been from apple, so thank you for pointing that out.
Plus, is that phone number british? i dont want to rack up £100's phoning a US number only for them to be of no help to me.
Edit: the email I found was from the support page at apple.com.

  • Restoring phone then syncing contacts without restoring from backup

This past weekend I went to the Genius Bar to discuss problems I've been having with my iPhone 3GS (software version 4.1) The tech at the Genius Bar told me my best option was to restore my iPhone and I asked if I should restore from backup after and his response was no the same problems I'm having will just reappear. So naturally I asked how I would get my contacts back and he said by syncing them but I am confused. I've owned iPhones for awhile and have never encountered this problem and would like a step by step guide (if its even possible) on how to retrieve my contacts once my phone is restored and set up as new before I go ahead and erase everything off my phone. Thanks in advance for any help anyone has to offer.

Your contacts should be available in an address book application on your computer with or without an iPhone or any cell phone. Not a good idea to depend on your cell phone alone for such important data which can be lost or stolen.
Nothing personal but it is beyond me how so many people that post here don't have their contacts available on their computer, or have email addresses only available for their contacts on their computer, phone numbers only available for their contacts on their cell phone which they have manually entered one by one, and mailing/physical addresses for their contacts who knows where.
Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer. With a Mac, this can be with the Address Book application and with a Windoze PC this can be with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 along with syncing calendar events and notes, or with the address book application used by Outlook Express with XP and with Windows Mail on Vista and Windows 7 called Windoze Contacts for syncing contacts only.
Before syncing with a supported address book application on your computer if the application is empty, enter one contact in the supported address book application on your computer. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select. Syncing with a supported address book application on your computer is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
