Syncronize software
I'm trying to figure out how to syncronize two folders the best way, what I want is this:
1/ Host is a web server, with directory listing
2/ Client is my computer, running Arch
3/ I want to compare the web server's files with the ones on my computer. For instance say that:
A.jpg, B.jpg, C.jpg, D.jpg is on the server and that:
A.jpg, B.jpg, C.jpg, E.jpg is on the local host, what I want to do is to have some software that downloads the missing files from the webserver, in other words the file D.jpg in this example, but keeps E.jpg which isn't on the server. Basically: download the files from the server that isn't on the client. What is the easiest way to do this?

Tried man rsync, and checked out google, but I cannot figure out how to use rsync for this. Could you explain?

Time Machine make back up of iPod?
How do you do to have a back up of iPod + internal HD to external HD with time machine?
Time Machine make a back up of internal HD but not of iPod connected via USB. This problem is only with iPod or with all external HD o pendrives USB?
Good morning all, my name is fernando, maybe you have discussed already about it but I have not found a thread.
I use leopard + TM + external La Cie HD only for Time Machine. Two macbooks and one iPod as external HD to carry around. My idea was to syncronize the two macs. I already use a syncronizer software but often I forghet to syncro in the last minute. There are other problems too, like: iPhoto don't reed other library in iPod etc.
So I'd like to work direcly on iPod and configure both macs and software to work to iPod direcly: I put all I need in the iPod as HD (documents, photo, files etc. I'm workin on at the moment) I work on the document directly on iPod and when finished I just disconnect iPod and carry it to another machine, without syncro anything. The most recent files are on iPod (as HD) but not in the macs.
As two times iPod was demaged (maybe non correctly disconnetted?) and I lost all documents, as I'm not used to make back up regularly, so I'm now learning to use time machine every time on.
I discovered that time machine is perfect for people like me (often confused) and make perfect Back up of internal HD very light and speedy but not of iPod connected USB.
In TM preference I can insert the units I want (or not) to have back up, but iPod isn't shown. Do you know if other external units apart from iPod work with TM?
thank you and excuse me if I'm too long. Maybe the answear is well known and very brief.
fernandoThank you VA2020, I solved yesterday with a packard bell external HD
I didn't know iTunes backs up iPod. I bought a classic 120 Gb iPod last year only as external HD for my macbook. I know to syncro iPod and iTunes but only for music, photo etc. Reading manual first time I remember that using it as HD I have not access to the classic folder of music etc. or using it by iPod commands I was not able to see the other folders
Using iPod as HD it's shown in the finder, desktop. By this way I can't see music or other but only the extra files as HD (I never tried it) so I created a storage folder "HD" inside and put in it all my photo, iPhoto library, text, key note files etc. while the original "classic" folders are empty
As HD I have access to photo only in the storage folder extra "HD" while as iPod I can't see the extra folder I created for storage, but maybe I'm wrong (I'm not expert of iPod, at the moment I used it only as HD, but recently I'm trying to use it for other too, so your answear is very usefull for me)
When damaged, I was not able to see it in the desktop. I run iTunes (i don't use it regularly) and a message told me the damage. I restored it re-installing the software via iTunes.
I lost all my recent work and restored old version of files backed up many time before.
I put attention when disconnected iPod, maybe the damage occurred changing elettric power to battery on my Air
thank you very much, I'll try to use iPod better for other usefull things like podcasts for example. I don't like to listen music on the road for example.

Outlook does not display in the syncronize part Desktop software.
I'm running Windows 7, and Outlook 2003 (SP3).
I have a BB Tour.
I've installed Desktop version 5.0.1.28.
No problem with the instillation or any or feature. However w hen I go to the syncronization and click on the box in front of Calendar (or any of the choices), the only 2 choices I see are:
None
ASCII Impoter/Exporter
I've read every word of every manual, and can't find anything that will help me get Outlook onto that list. According to the Help section, Outlook is supported, yet it doesn't display.
Any suggestions on how to get Outlook onto the listRead this detailed KB article.

Blackberry Desktop Software syncronization errors
I have not been able to find a solution to an error I am getting with a MAPi logon failure, I am using Microsoft Office 365 Pro Plus which has a 2013 version of Outlook (POP email not Mapi). I assume this error started after an automatic upgrade as I have been using this same set up for over 6 months
Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Interesting...I actually cannot determine at all why it ever worked for you...the Desktop Software is not compatible with Outlook 2013...refer:
KB12268 Synchronization support for BlackBerry Desktop Software for Windows
Unless it's Outlook that got upgraded? You were not clear about exactly what was upgraded...but, if it was Outlook, then that would indeed explain it...the upgrade took you to a version of Outlook that is not supported.
Good luck and let us know!

Some apps dont syncronize although up to date software
hi all,
recently some apps dont sync. the error message says that the iphone software is not up to date although it is.
Has anybody had similar problemsv or solved that problem yet?My iphone is on iOS 4.2.1, wich is the up to date software. And yes i looked it up these apps need 4.3.
Could it be that my phone is too old to update on iOS 5.1.1?
Do you have an idea how i can update my phone?
Thanks in advance -
Iphone 5 and itunes don't syncronize
When I try to sync phone 5 (ios 7.0.2) and itunes 11.1 the message that the computer is not authorised appears. I'm advised to authorize my computer (Windows 7) and I do it, the message that the computer is already authorized appears, but the syncronization fails again because of the same problem
Yes, you will need to upgrade to Snow Leopard so you can get iTunes 10.7. Confirm that your system meets the minimum requirements:
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If it does, Snow Leopard is back on the online Apple Store, at least in some countries. In the US:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
If it's not listed on the web site of the Apple Store in your country, call the online Apple Store; they may still have copies of Snow Leopard available. Once you upgrade, run Software Update to get your system to 10.6.8 and you will then be able to update to iTunes 10.7.

Hello there. Does anyone have a recommendation for good backup software? I need something that can syncronize some of my folders to an external hard drive. Thank.
My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
2. Toast
3. Impression
4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.

Q10 contacts and calendar syncronization
Using outlook account, syncronization of contacs and calendar by usb connection fails, with message at the end of the process "writing of the coomit on the device failed". It was not like this at the beginning. Computer and device software are updateted. All other usb options work fine, like sync images and music.Somebody knows how to solve it?
First I did a sync only for calendar and it went through. Then I did the sync for contacts only and got the same error, so the problem in my case is in the contacts. So I generate the BB link logs enabling it in the BB link but without the windows registry modification (I'm not that skilled). The Log has been created anyhow, I went through it and found the line "outgoing payload" (there was only one) where a problem with one contact was indicated. I cancelled the contact on the phone and on the computer and did the sync again, but I got the same error. So I created again the log and found another problem with another contact. After three times I realised that with each try a new error with a different contact was created (only one at a time). So the problem is not solved, calendar sync works fine if done separately, contacts sync doesn't work properly: contacts added on the phone are copied to the computer but any change on the computer is not written on the phone. Maybe the way is to cancel all the contacts on the device and redo the sync from scratch, but I do not know how to cancel the contacts on the device (other than one by one, I have more than 400....) and the risk is not to get the contacts back on the device never again.
Bye and thanks again,

Solaris 10 and Software Mirroring
Hey Folks,
I'm attempting to configure software mirroring on a Solaris 10 system. Because this system is a v440, I'm using the hardware mirroring for the OS.
The other two drives in the system I am using for a database, and so, will configure software raid on them. However, I've done the following:
(created slice 3 and 4 on each drive for metadbs)
prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c1t2d0s2 | fmthard -s - /dev/rdsk/c1t3d0s2
metadb -af -c 2 /dev/dsk/c1t2d0s3 /dev/dsk/c1t2d0s4
metadb -af -c 2 /dev/dsk/c1t3d0s3 /dev/dsk/c1t3d0s4
# below is the only partition i need to mirror, which will hold the
# oracle db files
metainit -f d20 1 1 /dev/dsk/c1t2d0s0
metainit -f d30 1 1 /dev/dsk/c1t3d0s0
metainit d2 -m d20
metattach d2 d30
After running metattach, both drives syncronize, and appears to be fine. I can mount it, read/write etc..
As such, I updated vfstab with the following:
/dev/md/dsk/d2 /dev/md/rdsk/d2 /opt/app/oracle/oradata ufs 2 yes -
and a mount -a works..
On reboot, it seems like my mirror has disappeared:
Can't stat /dev/md/rdsk/d2
/dev/md/rdsk/d2: CAN'T CHECK FILE SYSTEM.
/dev/md/rdsk/d2: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
fsckall failed with exit code 1.
WARNING - Unable to repair one or more filesystems.
Run fsck manually (fsck filesystem...).
svc:/system/filesystem/local:default: WARNING: /sbin/mountall -l failed: exit status 32
Jun 27 08:18:30 svc.startd[7]: svc:/system/filesystem/local:default: Method "/lib/svc/method/fs-local" failed with exit status 95.
Jun 27 08:18:30 svc.startd[7]: system/filesystem/local:default failed fatally
You'll notice from my steps, I did not run metaroot. I cannot, since ths is not a root partition and metaroot gives an error.
Which brings me to my question, what have I missed? Why does software raid fall apart on reboot?Hi!
I have found these two errors too.
The second one I`m still trying to solve, but, in order to solve the first one, please, check if the parameters of you vfstab are written in the same line, like this:
#device device mount FS fsck mount mount
#to mount to fsck point type pass at boot options
fd - /dev/fd fd - no -
/proc - /proc proc - no -
/dev/md/dsk/d2 - - swap - no -
/dev/md/dsk/d1 /dev/md/rdsk/d1 / ufs 1 no -
/dev/md/dsk/d4 /dev/md/rdsk/d4 /etc/opt/OV ufs 2 yes -
/dev/md/dsk/d5 /dev/md/rdsk/d5 /opt/OV ufs 2 yes -
/dev/md/dsk/d3 /dev/md/rdsk/d3 /var/opt/OV ufs 2 yes -
If not, Solaris 10 does not recognize the parameters that are written in the line below. (Don`t ask me why).
Hope it helps,
Regards,
Thais -
Software for copying phone memory to computer
I have a 2-year-old pearl 8100. I need to copy my address book to my computer. I lost the software that came with the phone. Which software do I need? When I go to the Blackberry website it asks me which software version I need and I have absolutely no idea. All I need to do is make a copy of what's on my phone memory and save it on my computer. Exactly which software do I need. thanks
Desktop Manager 5.0.0 B28 English
once installed if you do a backup, this will make a complete backup of your databases. However only readable if restored back to a BB.
if you want to copy your address book to a a viewable source you will need to use syncronize and sync it with outlook, or outlook express. -
How to update objects of sub software component version?
I have two SWCV, say SWCV_BASE and SWCV_DERIVE, SWCV_DERIVE is based on SWCV_BASE. So the objects which belong to SWCV_BASE are also availabe in the BASIC OBJECTS directory under SWCV_DERIVE.
My question is:
When I make some change in SWCV_BASE, how to reflect this modification to the SWCV_DERIVE? Currently whatever I do to SWCV_BASE, the change can't be transferd to BASIC OBJECTS in SWCV_DERIVE. Does anyone know how to syncronize the objects in SWCV_DERIVE to get the newest ojbects in SWCV_BASE.
MUST REWARD FOR GOOD ANSWERS.
Regards,
HuiHi, Michal
I forget to activate it. Yes, it's really... Forgive me:)
I have another question which has confused me for long time. It would be apprecaited if you could give me some light. According to sap documentation, through sub software component version we can reuse or do some customer modification to some SAP XI OBJECTS. But when I import some SAP software component version like SAP BASIS 6.20, I find nothing inside it. So when, how and where can we use SAP XI OBJECTS?
See the scenaio below:
An R/3 system is going to transfer data with a database.
R/3 (IDoc) <-> Database (JDBC)
IDocs can be devided into two types:
1. idocs shipped by SAP.
2. customized idocs.
In my understanding, when I import some sap software component version like SAB BASIS 6.20. I should be able to find the SAP shipped idocs. But nothing is there.
So Should I import the SAP shipped idocs into the SAP software component version? Then create a customized software component version based on SAP component version, where I import the customiyed idocs.
Could you give me some advice?
Thanks in advance.

Error when configuring Desktop Software with Outlook 2007 Calendar
Hello,
I am trying to find some help for a problem I'm having with a Blackberry 8100. I would like to use the Desktop Software 5.0 in conjunction with Outlook 2007 (on Windows 7 64 bits) to sync the calendar between the device and the computer. Actually I pretend to change Lotus Notes (which worked perfectly) for Outlook 2007.
The problem appears during the configuration process on the Desktop Software. I go to the configuration wizard for the calendar, choose Outlook, select bidirectional syncronization and then after clicking Next a small window appears (it happens also with both one-way options).
The window has Error as title and no other text, just an OK button. After closing it the wizard goes on asking for which Outlook profile to sync with. Unfortunately, the drop menu list does not show any profiles, it is completely blank.
I've tried creating, removing and renaming new profiles helplessly, as the error windows appears again and no profile is listed.
How could I solve it? Any idea would be appreciated.
Thanks for your help,
RogerHey becgps,

Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
