Syntax for querying between dates with ADO

Hello,
I am connecting to Oracle tables using ADO in Microsoft Access. I am not familiar with Oracle Sql. I am trying to execute the following query string but am not retrieving and records:
strSql = "SELECT COUNT(*) " _
& "FROM CCC2.CASE_EPRP WHERE CALL_DATE >= '1/1/2002' " _
& "AND CALL_DATE <= '2/1/2002'"
I can retrieve a record count if I only have the first date, but if I use the date range above the query returns zero records even though there are records for that date range. Could someone explain the correct way to write this query?
Thanks,
Rich

You really don't want to rely on implicit string to date conversion ever. Oracle will use your NLS date settings to do the conversion, but different users (and different databases) may have this set differently, so one user might have '2/1/2002' convert to February 1, 2002 while another user might have it convert to January 2, 2002. A third user might not be able to convert the string at all.
The proper way to do this is to use either Oracle syntax
"where call_date >= to_date( '1/1/2002', 'MM/DD/YYYY' )
and call_date <= to_date( '2/1/2002', 'MM/DD/YYYY' )"
or to use the ODBC date escape sequence, {d }, to create the dates.
If this isn't the problem, there may be issues because Oracle dates have a time component. If you don't specify a time, Oracle will default to midnight, so any call_date records after 12:00am on 2/1/2002 won't be found.

  • How can I make a query by date with several TDMS files?

    Hi,
    I have a project that can write and read TDMS files everyday (a file for each day with date and time). There, I can import those files to excel (I choose a file and load it). But, I have a question: How can I make a query by date with those TDMS files? I'd like make a time stamp for start date and stop date, where I could compare the TDMS file dates and sum the values that are in the channels where these files are similar. For example, I save a file with "02/01/2013" name, in other day "03/01/2013", in other day "04/01/2013"... so, i'd like put in time stamp for start date "02/01/2013" file and to stop date "04/01/2013" file, than, sum all values that range with my TDMS files existing. How can I make that?
    Thanks all,
    Val

    Hello Val_Auto.
    You're Brazilian, no? Me too. = ^ - ^ =
    I converted VI to version of your LabVIEW (8.5). Is attached in this reply.
    This VI search all your TDMS in a range of dates and join them in a single TDMS. I hope this is what you wanted.
    Query TDMS is the main VI. The TDMS VI Search changes the date format that out from calendar control (which is DD / MM / YYYY) to DD-MM-YYYY. This is because you can't name files using "/". I chose "-" but, if necessary, you should change to keep the same format of your TDMS files.
    If you have any doubt as to its operation or how to make changes to adapt VI for your application, keep at your disposal.
    Thank you for your contact; I hope have helped you and succeed in your application.

  • Can we create range variable for Query Key Date

    Hello Gurus,
    Can we create a range variable for Query Key Date ? when I tried to give a range of values for Query Key Date, I am unable to find Range Values option. I found only Single Values.
    so, Please let me know if we can use Range variables for Query Key Date ??
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Aarthi

    Hi Aarthi,
    This is relevant for the time dependant master data that is being pulled in thw query. Like if you are using a nav attr in the query and this nav attr is time dependant, then which record (from the char master data) is to be pulled into the report, depends upon the key date that you specify.
    The default key date value is the date on which the query is executed, that is <Today>.
    Hope this helps...

  • Syntax for NOW() in date function

    Hi all
    What is the syntax for NOW() in Date function? Can anybody help me..
    Thanks&Regards
    Hema

    Here's how I used it.
    In VC select an expression box. When creating it, ensure you have the data type DATE selected and provide a field name. If you don't select a date data type, it will not work (the default is text).
    In the Data source field section, under the Expression field, select Formula, Under Date Functions select NOW(). You can also format the date
    If you want to select yesterdays date, use the following formula:
    DADD(NOW(),-1,'d')

  • Syntax for query help

    I'm in need of coming up with the correct syntax for a query that would work in Oracle.
    I would like to convert or change the syntax of my SQL statement used in SQL Server to produce the same result in Oracle.
    Select receiptDate, receiptNumber, receiptAmount
    From receipt, customer
    where customer.customerid = receipt.customerid
    and customerName = 'Joe Smith'
    and receiptDate between '01/01/2011' and '03/31/2011'
    ORDER BY receiptDate;
    Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.
    Thank you for any information, even if it is just a link to show where I can get more syntax structure.

    ORDER BY receiptDate;Is receiptDate a DATE? If so, change the last part of the WHERE clause from
    and receiptDate between '01/01/2011' and '03/31/2011'to
    AND     receiptDate >= TO_DATE ( '01/01/2011'     -- First day to include
                                 , 'DD/MM/YYYY'
    AND      receiptDate <  TO_DATE ( '04/01/2011'     -- First day NOT to include
                                 , 'DD/MM/YYYY'
                          ) Or you can use DATE literals, like this:
    AND     receiptDate >= DATE '2011-01-01'
    AND      receiptDate <  DATE '2011-04-01'With DATE literals, you don't have any choice of format: the dates have be to given as 'YYYY-MM-DD'.
    DATEs in Oracle always include hours, minutes and seconds. If you don't specify the hours, minutes or seconds, they default to 00.
    If you said:
    AND     receiptDate BETWEEN TO_DATE ( '01/01/2011'
                                          , 'DD/MM/YYYY'
                  AND     TO_DATE ( '03/31/2011'
                                          , 'DD/MM/YYYY'
                                   ) that would not include most of the last day, March 31: it would include only the first second of that day (that is, 00:00:00). To include all of March 31, up to and including 23:59:59, you could say:
    AND     receiptDate BETWEEN TO_DATE ( '01/01/2011'
                                          , 'DD/MM/YYYY'
                  AND     TO_DATE ( '03/31/2011 23:59:59'
                                          , 'DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS'
    Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum. No, this is the right place for this kind of question.
    Thank you for any information, even if it is just a link to show where I can get more syntax structure.

  • Structure or syntax for query/filter

    I need to find a 12-digit number in a column called "SequenceNumTxt", in a VERY long table.
    I can query the first n lines but need to add something like "WHERE [SequenceNumTxt]="123412341234"
    The above does not work, gives me a syntax error; what am I doing wrong?

    Good day
    Joseph_L_W,
    Firstly I have to agree with all previous responses. Your question is not clear and you did not gave us any information (I use to say that you gave us stories instead of information). In order to understand the issue and to reproduce it we need you to always
    post DDL+DML.
    DDL = Data Definition Language. In our case that is, CREATE TABLE statements for the relevant tables
    * How to get DDL: Right click on the table in Object Explorer and select script table as CREATE. Post these create table scripts here.
    DML = data manipulation language is a family of queries used for manipulating the data itself like: inserting, deleting and updating data.
    In our case we need some sample data in order to check the query and get result, so we need some insert query for sample data.
    If you post a "create query" for the tables and "insert query" with some sample, then we could help you without Assuming/Guessing.

  • Problem inserting and querying XML data with a recursive XML schema

    Hello,
    I'm facing a problem with querying XML data that is valid against a recursive XML Schema. I have got a table category that stores data as binary XML using Oracle 11g Rel 2 on Windows XP. The XML Schema is the following:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
    <xs:complexType name="bold_type" mixed="true">
              <xs:choice minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded">
                   <xs:element name="bold" type="bold_type"/>
                   <xs:element name="keyword" type="keyword_type"/>
                   <xs:element name="emph" type="emph_type"/>
              </xs:choice>
         </xs:complexType>
         <xs:complexType name="keyword_type" mixed="true">
              <xs:choice minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded">
                   <xs:element name="bold" type="bold_type"/>

                                            </xs:complexType>
                        </xs:element>
    </xs:schema>I registered this schema and created the category table. Then I inserted a new row using the code below:
    insert into category_a values
    (XMlElement("category",
          xmlattributes('categoryAAA' as "id"),
          xmlforest ('ma categ' as "name"),
          (xmlelement("description", (xmlelement("text", 'find doors blest now whiles favours carriage tailor spacious senses defect threat ope willow please exeunt truest assembly <keyword> staring travels balthasar parts attach enshelter two <emph> inconsiderate ways preventions </emph> preventions clasps better affections comes perish </keyword> lucretia permit street full meddle yond general nature whipp <emph> lowness </emph> grievous pedro')))
    The row is successfully inserted as witnessed by the results of row counting. However, I cannot extract data from the table. First, I tried using SqlPlus* which hangs up and quits after a while. I then tried to use SQL Developer, but haven't got any result. Here follow some examples of queries and their results in SQL Developer:
    Query 1
    select * from category
    Result : the whole row is returned
    Query 2
    select xmlquery('$p/category/description' passing object_value as "p" returning content) from category
    Result: "SYS.XMLTYPE"
    now I tried to fully respect the nested structure of description element in order to extract the text portion of using this query
    Query 3
    select  xmlquery('$p/category/description/text/keyword/bold/text()' passing object_value as "p" returning content) from  category_a
    Result: null
    and also tried to extract the text portion of element <text> using this query
    Query 4
    select  xmlquery('$p/category/description/text/text()' passing object_value as "p" returning content) from  category_a
    Result: "SYS.XMLTYPE".
    On the other hand, I noticed, from the result of query 1, that the opening tags of elements keyword and bold are encoded as the less than operator "&lt;". This explains why query 3 returns NULL. However, query 4 should display the text content of <text>, which is not the case.
    My questions are about
    1. How to properly insert the XML data while preserving the tags (especially the opening tag).
    2. How to display the data (the text portion of the main Element or of the nested elements).
    The problem about question 1 is that it is quite unfeasible to write a unique insert statement because the structure of <description> is recursive. In other words, if the structure of <description> was not recursive, it would be possible to embed the elements using the xmlelement function during the insertion.
    In fact, I need to insert the content of <description> from a source table (called category_a) into a target table (+category_b+) automatically .
    I filled category_a using the Saxloader utility from an flat XML file that I have generated from a benchmark. The content of <description> is different from one row to another but it is always valid with regards to the XML Schema. The data is properly inserted as witnessed by the "select * from category_a" instruction (500 row inserted). Besides, the opening tags of the nested elements under <description> are preserved (no "&lt;"). Then I wrote a PL/SQL procedure in which a cursor extracts the category id and category name into varchar2 variables and description into an XMLtype variable from category_a. When I try to insert the values into a category_b, I get the follwing error:
    LSX-00213: only 0 occurrences of particle "text", minimum is 1which tells that the <text> element is absent (actually it is present in the source table).
    So, my third question is why are not the tags recognized during the insertion?
    Can anyone help please?

    Hello,
    indded, I was using an old version of Sqlplus* (8.0.60.0.0) because I had a previous installation (oracle 10g XE). Instead, I used the Sqlplus* shipped with the 11g2database (version 11.2.0.1.0). All the queries that I wrote work fine and display the data correctly.
    I also used the XMLSERIALIZE function and can now display the description content in SQL Developer.
    Thank you very much.
    To answer your question Marco, I registered the XML Schema using the following code
    declare

        XMLSCHEMA "xmldb/category_auction.xsd" ELEMENT "category";Now, there still remains a problem of how to insert the "description" content which I serialized as a CLOB data into another table as XML. To this purpose, I wrote a view over the Category_a table as follows:
    CREATE OR REPLACE FORCE VIEW "AUCTION_XWH"."CATEGORY_V" ("CATEGORY_ID", "CNAME", "DESCRIPTION") AS
      select category_v."CATEGORY_ID",category_v."CNAME",
      XMLSerialize(content ( xmlquery('$p/category/description/*' passing object_value as "p" returning content)) as clob) as "DESCRIPTION"
      from  auction.category_a p,
    xmltable ('$a/category' passing p.Object_Value as "a"
    columns  category_id varchar2(15) path '@id',
              cname varchar2(20) path 'name') category_v;Then, I wrote a procedure to insert data into the Category_xwh table (the source and target tables are slightly different: the common elements are just copied wereas new elements are created in the target table). The code of the procedure is the following:
    create or replace PROCEDURE I_CATEGORY AS
    v_cname VARCHAR2(30);
    v_description clob ;
    v_category_id VARCHAR2(15);
    cursor mycursor is select category_id, cname, description from category_v;
    BEGIN
    open mycursor;
      loop
      /*retrieving the columns*/
      fetch mycursor into v_category_id, v_cname, v_description ;
      exit when mycursor%notfound;
      insert into category_xwh values
      (XMlElement("category",
          xmlattributes(v_category_id as "category_id"),
          xmlelement("Hierarchies", xmlelement("ObjHierarchy", xmlelement ("H_Cat"),
                                                               xmlelement ("Rollsup",
                                                                                  (xmlelement("all_categories",
                                                                                   xmlattributes('allcategories' as "all_category_id")))
        xmlforest (
                  v_cname as "cat_name",
                  v_description as "description")
    end loop;
      commit;
      close mycursor;
    END I_CATEGORY;When I execute the procedure, I get the following error:
    LSX-00201: contents of "description" should be elements onlyso, I just wonder if this is because v_description is considered as plain text and not as XML text, even if its content is XML. Do I need to use a special function to cast the CLOB as XML?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Query text fileds with ADO/OLEDB connection (Set command over ADO is it pos

    Dear Oracle users,
    I try to query the TEXT field of dba_views but run into the problem that the return
    lengths is limited to 80 characters.
    On iSQLplus I can use the command e.g. "set long 1000".
    If I try to use this command over the ADO connection before I start my SQL query I get an error (assumingly because the set commandos cannot be used over ADO connections ?).
    Is there a way to be able to query text fields with more than 80 characters using ADO/OLEDB ?
    Hope someone can help.
    Best regards,
    Daniel Wetzler

    Hi Jon,
    Well, I think I've got it working, but I'm not really happy with my work around.
    I tried upgrading to version 2 of .NET (I was using v1.1) But there was no change, I also modified the code so that it destroyed the connection to the ADO after each INSERT and before each get string, but it still failed in the middle of the same directory.
    I've just inserted a wait statment which delays every itteration by 200 ms and that actually seems to have fixed things... I say "Seems" because I've been running the program for 45 minutes now and I'm less than a third of the way through the directories! (previous execute time was 7 mins)
    This delay occured to me because the problems started when I changed the parsing sequence to improve the speed of the opperation.
    However, this is not exactly an ideal sollution... Do you think the problem is with the ActiveX "connection" or the actual database connection?
    Any help would be appreciated because the running speed is now immpractical and I'm not sure why this should have worked.
    Thanks - Pete

  • Is it possible to make a delta load for a Master data with Standard DS

    I have a full load bringing huge data for master data with standard datasource.
    I want to run a delta due to huge no. of records but when I create a new Infopackage it dont give a option for delta update.
    Are delta loads specific to only standard or customized DS's or any other reason behind that ?

    I kind of understand what you are asking about, but I am unclear as to how it pertains to our BO SDK.
    You are wanting to find the differences between a large dataset and another large dataset.
    I am not sure what an Infopackage is.
    Are you using the BO Enterprise SDK or some other product?

  • Sql sript for Insert of data with repeating values

    It has been a long long time since I had to do write and use any SQL scripts, please forgive the question. I used to use a script to insert values into a table as part of my job. I have forgotten what the script I used was and since lost all my Oracle note books and other DBA material.
    I did a search and went through 30 pages of results, I didn't see what I'm looking for.
    The data is from one large file that is appended at the end and sometimes updated somewhere in the middle of the set which is considered new data. I am not concern with getting the data out of the file, I got that handled but the insert into the table - transactions - is where I'm lost.
    I used to use a script to load the data, about 6 years ago, and it would load the file, exclude the data that was already in the table and insert the new data and the data with the changes.
    The data columns are date, time, reference, transaction code, location, debit amount, fee amount, balance.
    The date repeats but the time and reference values are unique.
    Any help with this script is appreciated.

    Hi,
    welcome to the forum..!
    You can use Oracle's merge statement to (update + insert) data into a table ... if the data exists update it with the new values and if it does not, then insert it.
    Here's a link to get you started...
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_9016.htm
    Since, the data is from a file, you could create an external table on the file and directly do a select from the file.
    MERGE INTO bonuses D
       USING (SELECT employee_id, salary, department_id FROM employees
       WHERE department_id = 80) S
       ON (D.employee_id = S.employee_id)
       WHEN MATCHED THEN UPDATE SET D.bonus = D.bonus + S.salary*.01
         DELETE WHERE (S.salary > 8000)
       WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN INSERT (D.employee_id, D.bonus)
         VALUES (S.employee_id, S.salary*0.1)
         WHERE (S.salary <= 8000);in the above example, the
    SELECT employee_id, salary, department_id FROM employeesis the source data. instead of loading the file into a temporary table and then merge into the target table , you could read from <<<external_table_on_your_file>> and then do a merge into the target table.

  • CPO XSL Transform for CPSC Form data with Grid

    Does anyone have an XSL Transform worked out that conveniently parses the CPSC Form output from Service Link when it has a grid in it?
    For example the data from CPSC Service Link might look like:
    <root>
       <Common>
          <Action ClassID="">Some Action</Action>
          <RequisitionID>123</RequisitionID>
       </Common>
       <Attributes/>
       <FormData>
          <Dictionary.Field>Some Data</Dictionary.Field>
          <DictionaryWithGrid-1.Field1>somevalue</DictionaryWithGrid-1.Field1>
          <DictionaryWithGrid-1.Field2>someothervalue</DictionaryWithGrid-1.Field2>
          <DictionaryWithGrid-1.Field3>yetanothervalue</DictionaryWithGrid-1.Field3>
          <DictionaryWithGrid-2.Field1>somevalue2</DictionaryWithGrid-2.Field1>
          <DictionaryWithGrid-2.Field2>someothervalue2</DictionaryWithGrid-2.Field2>
          <DictionaryWithGrid-2.Field3>yetanothervalue2</DictionaryWithGrid-2.Field3>
       </FormData>
    </root>
    So the desired output would be
    <Row>
       <Field1>somevalue</Field1>
       <Field2>someothervalue</Field2>
       <Field3>yetanothervalue</Field3>
    </Row>
    <Row>
       <Field1>somevalue2</Field1>
       <Field2>someothervalue2</Field2>
       <Field3>yetanothervalue2</Field3>
    </Row>
    I'm having difficulty getting the right XSL select when the tag is something like 'DictionaryWithGrid-#.Field'.
    Thanks!

    That worked great, Svetlana!  Thank you very much for the help.
    I made some slight mods to make it even more portable and intuitive for XSL/XML beginners.
