T Box: help with coaxial vs threaded wall socket issue

Hi there! Hope someone out there can help me or point me in the right direction! I purchased a T Box Entertainer Bundle for my new rental residence, and after moving in yesterday I received my T Box today. All excited about plugging in the T Box and catching up on some viewing from the past few days, but it seems that while my new place has a TV connection, it is not the standard coaxial type! Arrrggghhhh! There is the usual phone connection attached to the wall, and beneath that a wall plate branded with Telstra (upside down!) and instead of the usual coaxial connection there is a threaded socket with a small female pin port. Just to satisfy my own curiosity I did try and plug the coaxial cable which came with the T Box to the socket, but obviously it doesn't fit either with male or female connections. A bit of slow online searching later (I also don't have my internet or landline connected as yet, and am in a mobile blackspot to compound the problem) and I am pretty sure what I have in the wall is actually a cable or Foxtel connection. From what I've read, if I get an adapter I will still need to get the whole thing rewired to an antenna...is this correct? Or is it possible that as the T Box has Foxtel anyway that either an adapter or a different cable would work?Or is this something that the tech can do when they come out to connect my landline and ADSL2+? Fingers crossed there is a reasonable solution to this as with being in a rental my options are limited!Many thanks in advance to you all.

That wall plate is for Foxtel – not FTA. You will not be able to get BigPond cable in that complex. DIY I would look at smaller caravan type antenna (window/balcony) and some cable. Not long ago ALDI were selling “active” indoor antennas for about $30-40 bucks, if you can get one and no-go just return.Thanks Alan...but if that is the case, why doesn't Foxtel have any history over the past 6 years of anyone ever having Foxtel in this unit? The wall plate is not Foxtel branded, but Telstra branded. The complex is probably 50 years old, but the reno is a lot more recent - say, a couple of years maximum. Also, Foxtel are telling me that only a couple of people in the last 6 years have ever had Foxtel anywhere in the entire 40-odd apartment complex which is over two separate buildings...why would there be backboned Foxtel cable if no one is using it? Foxtel use Telstra cable to deliver their content - I get that. But if practically no one is using the cable for Foxtel - what ARE they using it for? It doesn't seem to be broadband as I was told only ADSL2+ is available to me...
There are no visible external antennas, and if all the units have been cabled, why would this one be different? I find it difficult to believe that all the residents are having to rely on rabbit-ears or window antennas simply to get FTA!There are a lot of large metal structures around this area, as well as other frequency-interference objects,so I am surmising that this would be the reason the building has been backboned cabled. But hey - just guessing here... So really - who can I ask about what is actually connected to this address? Foxtel say it's not them and tell me to ask Telstra, Telstra SHOP staff (not the good folk here) are telling me they cant help me in person and I have to call customer service from home,  I don't have a landline or my ADSL connected yet so can only use my mobile for which I have limited service while I wait for the delivery of a 3G home booster thingy. Can anyone tell me to which Telstra department I should be directing my enquiry to?At the moment I have now useless T-Box sitting here begging to be used, which I purchased in good faith on the advice I received from a Telstra provider that I have the necessary and correct connections for it to work! Seeing as they appeared to have access to the information required to check on the service availability to this address and specifically this apartment - who do I need to contact to get more information?At the very least, put me out of my misery - if I have to install an antenna, so be it, but I need to be sure this is the only option available to me before I go through the process of getting landlord, body corporate, aand whoeverelse persmission, not to mention the considerable expense! Please - someone, anyone at Telstra - tell me who I need to contact, to find out once and for all, with absolute certainty what this connection is for!  Sorry if I sound desperate...everyone has been very helpful here so far, but I'm going crazy trying to figure this out!

    Welcome to the forum.
    First thing that I would do would be to look at this Adobe KB Article to see if it helps.
    Next, I would try the tips in this ARTICLE.
    If that does not help, a Repair Install would definitely be in order.

  • Help with running multiple threads

    I'm new to programming with threads. I want to know how to run
    multiple threads at the same time. Particularly for making games
    in Java which I'm also begining to learn. For running multiple
    threads at the same time, do you have to put two run() methods
    in the source? If not then how do you make two threads or more
    run at the same time?
    Thanks for helping.

    For running multiple
    threads at the same time, do you have to put two run()
    methods
    in the source? Hi there,
    Each thread is presumably performing a task. You may be performing the same task multiple times or be performing different tasks at once. Either way, each task would typically be contained within the run() method of a class. This class would either be a subclass of java.lang.Thread (extends Thread) or would be an implementation of java.lang.Runnable (implements Runnable). In either case, you would define a method with signature (public void run()...). The difference comes into play when you wish to actually perform one of these tasks. With a subclass of Thread, you would simply perform:
    new MyTask().start();
    With an implementation of Runnable, you would do this:
    new Thread(new MyTask()).start();
    This assumes you don't need to monitor the threads, won't be sending any messages to your tasks or any such thing. If that were the case, you would need to tuck away those returns to new MyTask() for later access.
    In order to launch two threads simultaneously, you would have something along the lines of:
    new MyTask().start();
    new MyOtherTask().start();
    Now it is perfectly possible that MyTask() would complete before MyOtherTask() managed to start in which case it wouldn't appear as if you had actually had multiple threads running, but for non-trivial tasks, the two will likely overlap. And of course, in a game, these tasks would likely be launched in response to user input, which means that you wouldn't have any control over when or in what order they executed.
    Anyhow, it's as simple as that. You should also consider following the Java Threading trail which shows a simple example of using multiple threads. You can find it at:

  • Help with understanding multi-threaded code

    Hi Everyone,
    I am currently reading a book on multi-threading and up until recently I have been able to understand what is going on. The thing is the complexity of the code has just jumped up about two gears without warning. The code is now using inner classes which I am trying to develop an understanding of but I am not finding it easy going, and the book has been lite on explanations. If anybody can help with the following code it will be really appreciated.
    public class SetPriority extends Object
         private static Runnable makeRunnable()
              Runnable r = new Runnable()
                   public void run()
                        for(int i=0; i<5; i++)
                             Thread t = Thread.currentThread();
                             System.out.println("in run() - priority=" + t.getPriority() +
                                          ", name=" + t.getName());
                             try{
                                  Thread.sleep(2000);
                             }catch(InterruptedException x){
                                  //ignore
              return r;
         public static void main(String[] args)
              Thread threadA = new Thread(makeRunnable(), "threadA");
              threadA.setPriority(8);
              threadA.start();
              Thread threadB = new Thread(makeRunnable(), "threadB");
              threadB.setPriority(2);
              threadB.start();
              Runnable r = new Runnable()
                   public void run()
                        Thread threadC = new Thread(makeRunnable(), "threadC");
                        threadC.start();
              Thread threadD = new Thread(r, "threadD");
              threadD.setPriority(7);
              threadD.start();
              try{
                   Thread.sleep(3000);
              }catch(InterruptedException x){
                   //ignore
              threadA.setPriority(3);
              System.out.println("in main() - threadA.getPriority()=" + threadA.getPriority());
    }My greatest challenge is understanding how the makeRunnable() method works. I don't understand how this inner class can be declared static and then multiple "instances" created from it. I know that I have no idea what is going on, please help!!!
    Thanks for your time.
    Regards
    Davo
    P.S.: If you know of any really good references on inner classes, particularly URL resources, please let me know. Thanks again.

    Yikes!! The good news is that you're unlikely to see such convoluted code in real life. But here we go.
    "private static Runnable makeRunnable()" declares a method that returns objects of type Runnable. The fact that the method is declared "static" is pretty irrelevant - I'll describe what that means later.
    The body of the method creates and returns an object of type Runnable. Not much special about it, except that you can give such an object to the constructor of class Thread and as a result the run() method of this Runnable object will be called on a new thread of execution (think - in parallel).
    Now the way it creates this Runnable object is by using the "anonymous inner class" syntax. In effect the method is doing the same as
    public class MyNewClass implements Runnable {
        public void run() {
            // All the same code inside run()
    public class SetPriority {
        private static Runnable makeRunnable() {
            Runnable r = new MyNewClass();
            return r;
        // The rest of the original code
    }Except you don't bother declaring MyNewClass. You're not interested in defining any new method signatures. You just want to create an object that implements Runnable and has certain instructions that you want inside the run() method. Think of the whole approach as shorthand.
    Think about this for a while. In the mean time I'll write up the "static".

    That is great! Thanks. I've got two question though.
    1.) Now I want to have 100 bouncing balls. Is the best way to achieve this is through an array of GOvals? I haven't gotten to the lecture on arrays on Stanford's ITunesU site yet so I am not sure what is possible with what I know now.An array would work, or a List. But it doesn't matter much in this case.
    2.) Are references being passed by value only applicable to Java or is that common to object-oriented programming? Also is there a way to force Java to pass in "BallA" instead of the value "null"?I can't say about all OO languages as a whole, but at least C++ can pass by reference.
    And no, there's no way to pass a reference to the BallA variable, so the method would initialize it and it wouldn't be null anymore.
    When you call the method with your BallA variable, the value of the variable is examined and it's passed to the method. So you can't pass the name of a variable where you'd want to store some object you created in the method.
    But you don't need to either, so there's no harm done.

    Sorry to cross post, but I'm not getting any useful responses from the other forum.
    I've got a Web Messenger program. The concept is this: A user online clicke a link which brings up a Client program, it connects to the Server program here, the server program connects to the MessageDaemon program on the Admin's computer opening up a Client program for him to use. The two clients are now connected and can pass text to each other.

  • Need help with margins & footer, and browser display issues....

    Hello,
    I am working on a splash page in Dreamweaver, but am having trouble with the margins and the footer.
    1. Margins: I basically want/need the center contents of the page never to extend past the contents of the header and footer.
    If you look at the page header, the logo on the top left and "Student and Faculty Portal" should be the margins. Seems to look fine on some users' systems, but not consistent across our department.
    2. Footer:  I can't seem to figure out how to keep the footer at the bottom without rising above the background image across all browsers & screen sizes.  Looks fine on some, but too high or low on others. (Looks the worst when the background image shows underneath the footer).
    3. Browser/Screen Size:  Depending on which PC I am using, my page changes.  At the office, on my 26" monitors, my page looks fine, however, when on different laptops, my right div (that contains the login table) goes under the left.  How can I code my page so that it looks consistent on all?
    I guess my main complaint/need is for my page to look consistent regardless of screen size, browser or system.
    If you could take a look, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Your expertise and time is greatly appreciated.  I hope I was clear enough, but please let me know if there is any confusion.

    1.  Create a div around your content, give it a width and margin: 0 auto;
    2.  Follow this tutorial.  It will be a lifesaver and it sounds like what you are trying to do: http://css-tricks.com/snippets/css/sticky-footer/
    3.  See #1.  In addition, remove right-margin from login box, add float: right; and remove float: left; from main content.

    Info:
    Running on XP/Cygwin.
    All of the files that FlexUnit4 references when used in Flash Builder are in my '${basename}/libs' folder (eg FlexUnit4_1.0.swc).
    I've placed the flexunit4 task in my ant/libs folder.
    I'm getting two errors...
    I don't think I've set up the 'socket' stuff right for the tests. It just sits and waits then dies...

    Plus this is the error I get from the flash player:
    ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable mx.skins.spark::BorderSkin is not defined.
    I don't know why it's complaining about Borderskin as I think I have included all the flex4 libs I could find. I suspect this second error is causing the first error?
    Any help appreciated. I think I'm just setting it up all wrong.
    Screencap of errors:

    build.xml:
    http://gist.github.com/20804

    Finally got everything working using the files from the CI Example which what i probably should have done in the first place.
    So a rough guide for anyone just starting out with this:
    Download the Flex 4 'workspace' from the digital primates hudson server . This appears to contain flexunit library and examples in various stages of development.
    I used Flex Builder 4 Beta 2 to set up my Test Suite and Test Cases.
    I then loaded the libs folder from:
    workspace.zip\workspace\project\FlexUnit4SampleCIProject
    into my flex project's libs folder:
    this includes:
    FlexUnit4.swc
    FlexUnit4CIListener.swc
    flexUnit4UIRunner.swc
    flexTasks.jar
    flexUnitTasks.jar
    I didn't need to remove the FlexUnit4 stuff that is 'referenced' automatically by flash builder when you start adding flexunit4 tests/suites.
    Then I used a modified version of the TestRunner.mxml found in:
    workspace.zip\workspace\project\FlexUnit4SampleCIProject\src\test\flex
    The lines to pay attention to are the ones that look like:
    static public function currentRunTestSuite():Array {
        var testsToRun:Array = new Array();
        testsToRun.push(packagename.TestSuiteName);
        testsToRun.push(packagename.TestClassName);
        return testsToRun;
    Just make sure you update this list to include all of the test suites &/or individual tests you want to run.
    I made this a static function and modified the code in the "FlexUnitApplication.mxml" file to use this function so i'd only need to update one list of suites/tests.
    FlexUnitApplication.mxml is generated automatically when you run FlexUnit4 tests in the Flash Builder 4 Beta 2 IDE.
    This is the build.xml file I'm using in the project:
    http://gist.github.com/208211
    Change the name of the project from "Flare" to whatever and adjust the other path settings where required (though you might want to write this from scratch at least once so you understand roughly what is going on).
    The Debug Flash Player must be installed on the server otherwise you'll get a:
    java.util.concurrent.ExecutionException: Socket timeout waiting for flexunit report
    ...while it waits for the non-existant debugger to attach. (This is obvious but I did forget and was a bit bewildered for a moment)
    Need to also ensure the environment variable:FLEX_HOME is set to the location you installed the flex sdk...by editing your .bashrc setting the environment variable the in the Hudson Configuration.
    You'll need to point Hudson at your ant installation and your jdk installation. If you downloaded he sdk, be aware you might need to point it to the jdk folder inside the place you installed the sdk.
    And I think that's all the problems I had. Hope it's useful to someone... if anyone who actually knows what they are doing can point out any potential issues/better ways of doing things, feel free to comment.
    Thanks to Brian (legrosb) and Mike (mlabriola) for their assistance!

  • Help with displaying image received from socket on Canvas

    Dear programmers
    I know that I'm pestering you lot for a lot of help but I just got one tiny problem which I just can't get over.
    I'm developing a remote desktop application which uses an applet as it's client and I need help in displaying the image.
    When a connection is made to the server, it continuously takes screenshots, converts them to jpg and then send them to the client applet via socket communication. I've got the the server doing this in a for(;;) loop and I've tested the communication and all seems to be working fine. However the applet is causing some issues such as displaying "loading applet" until I stop the server and then the 1st screenshot is displayed. Is there a way to modify the following code so that it displays the current image onto a canvas while the next image is being downloaded and then replace the original image with the one which has just been downloaded. All this needs to be done with as little flicker as possible.
    for(;;)
        filename = dis.readUTF();
        fileSize = dis.readInt();
        fileInBuffer = new byte[fileSize];
        dis.readFully(fileInBuffer, 0, fileSize-1);
        //Create an image from the byte array
        img = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(fileInBuffer);
        //Create a MyCanvas object and add the canvas to the applet
        canvas = new IRDPCanvas(img, this);
        canvas.addMouseListener(this);
        canvas.addKeyListener(this);
        add(canvas);
    }

  • Help with slightly complicated iPod/iTunes library issue

    I have an older iPod with about 80 gig of music and videos on it, all legally acquired through the iTunes store or via my own CD collection.
    I would like to transfer the music of this library (which does not match the current contents of my current iPod touch and iTunes library) to my wife's laptop (currently running 10.4.11) so she can access music from it for her iPod nano.
    Issue #1: is there a good third-party app. that would allow such a transfer?
    Issue #2: there is not enough hard drive space on the laptop to accept an 80 gig library transfer...how could I set that up on an external drive?
    Thanks for any help you can give.

    Is there a better forum in which I can post this problem?
    Or perhaps it has already been answered elsewhere? Could you point me in that direction?
    Thanks...

  • Help with building a database portlet (reference_path) issues

    I'm attempting to create a Provider Portlet based on the Database Provider example. The goal of the portlet is to
    dynamically display a Portal Report based upon a session storage variable. The session storage variable is set in another portlet on the same page. My portlet is named DYNAMIC_RPT.
    I'm able to display the report from within my database portlet by calling the report's .show procedure.
    But, my problem is this: The reference_path is generated for my database portlet, for example 131_DYNAMIC_RPT_123123, so when I click the NEXT button on the report, the page is refreshed but the report is still on page 1.
    I think the problem is that my portlet needs to internally determine what the reference_path SHOULD BE for the report I'm trying to display, and use it in the associated provider API's.
    If I could call the API which is generating the reference_path I could then pass an appropriate reference_path. I would need to be able to dynamically regenerate the reference_path when ever the session variable changes. Is this possible ?
    Also, when I'm building the p_arg_names, and p_arg_values whould I ONLY extract the argument(parms) which are associated with the p_reference_path of the portlet report currenttly being displayed ?
    Also is there a session storage variable which contains the current PAGE ID and TAB ID. I'm extracting it form the PAGE_URL but it's very messy code.
    Thanks in advance for your help !!

    Hi,
    you can do what you want with LiveCycle, and it might help you to look at this reference as it shows how to work with data ( it does depend how your data is stored)
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/9.0/designerHelp/index.htm?content=000006.htmlhttp://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/9.0/designerHelp/index.htm?content=000006.html
    If you data does not change very often then I would recommend just using an XML file to store the data and then use thebinding ability with possible some JavaScript to create the solution you would like.
    Hope this helps

  • Can anyone help with PSE8 JPG thumbnail/polygon lasso issue

    Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me here please? When I am in the editing mode of PSE8 and using the polygon lasso tool, after a couple of clicks around the image, the app seems to freeze and only resume when I click outside of the PSE8 window! I attempt again and again but same thing happens.
    Also I've discovered, I can't view thumnails in Windows 7 folders. I mean, when I try to open an image on my laptop, I can't view what the thumnails are, I have to go by title underneath, although image does appear at base of 'Open' window.
    COuld this be a RAM issue, as since updating I keep getting window stating RAM is getting low, yet I've got loads of available RAM!
    Oh dear...HELP!
    Thanks

  • Help with Mainstage 3.1 CPU overload issue

    I was using Kontakt 5, UVI Workstation and Pianoteq 5 in MainStage 3 without any issues.
    Since I updated to MS 3.1, The CPU is always above 100% !!! I am facing audio dropouts and it is absolutely impossible to play a show
    Is anyone else facing the same issue? Any tips to help reduce CPU overload will be helpful.
    I have Contact and UVI workstation running from an external hard disk. I thought that might be the issue but i tried with a keyboard template set in MS 3.1 and still while playing CPU usage shoots to 100% plus!
    I am on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.

    Try to get the Mainstage 3.0.4 from a timemachine backup.
    Try to update all your programs like pianotec.
    For me, 3.1 feels better concerning timing/ latency. This might cause more stress for the processors.
    My system i7 2,2 GHz is always getting hot, fans go crazy. There's a limit: Better than 64 Samples buffer is not possible.
    To be serious: A real Piano needs  0,25ms to produce a sound. We have to deal with 4ms. That's bad. So you could increase buffersize to 128 and try playing? It makes no big difference if you play the poor 4ms ore poor 6ms for example. In every case we are far away from the real thing.
    Check, if you activated the "savety buffer" checkbox in audiodriver window.
    If you can't find 3.0.4., you could try to reduce the installed channelstrips in your patches. Effects in concert level should be reduced. Evt. you have Efx in busses that are not needed in most patches. So cancel them in concertlevel and install them in selected patches.
    I replaced a spacedesigner reverb with an reverb outside the system, it's processed from the interface. Same with a chorus.
    I tested a newer MacbookPro retina, that was not better than mine. The difference was, it produced little dropouts every 10 seconds.
    Hopefuly there will be a update for 3.1 soon.
    And be serious: Before 3.1 you could play a show without dropouts, but was it fun? Mainstage urgently needs better latency capabilities, generally.
