Table column sequence

Hello WD-Experts,
I have bind a table into WD dynpro using table UI-Element. The data will shown perfectly.
My issue: I like to change the sequence of the different columns.
Example:
col1 col2 col3
col3 col1 col2
Changing the columns by track and drop is just visible in the ROOTUIELEMENTCONTAINER, but not in the layout itself.
Has anybody an idea how i can change the column sequence?
Thank you very much in advance.
regards
Axel

Hi Axel,
We can change the sequence of table column. For this Chose the Edit Mode for your view. Navigate to your Table UI element. Click on it so it shows you all the Columns. Now select a column u wish to move and just right click on that . u will see a option called up and down . With this u ws will move ur column in upper and downward direction. So by this u can change the sequence of any column in ur table.

• WDA Table: Getting column sequence as it really is for the user

Hi Folks!
I need the current sequence of table columns as it really is for the user. He may have personalized his table: he may have removed some columns and may have changed the sequence of some columns. And this is what I need to know.
But unfortunately so far I could only get the column sequence as it is defined in the View Layout using this coding:
DATA lo_table TYPE REF TO cl_wd_table.
DATA lo_table_columns TYPE cl_wd_table_column=>tt_table_column.
DATA lo_table_column TYPE REF TO cl_wd_table_column.
DATA lt_abstr_table_columns TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF REF TO cl_wd_abstr_table_column.
DATA ls_abstr_table_column TYPE REF TO cl_wd_abstr_table_column.
lo_table ?= wd_this->mv_view->get_element( 'RLTAB' ).
lt_abstr_table_columns = lo_table->get_grouped_columns( ).
LOOP AT lt_abstr_table_columns INTO ls_abstr_table_column.
lo_table_column ?= ls_abstr_table_column.
ENDLOOP.
Thus: How to get the table column information as they are currently outside in the reald user world (only visible columns in the displayed sequence).
Background: I need this information, because I want to export the table to excel and/or print it in exactly the state the user currently sees it (in personalized state).
Thanx and points for any useful hints - ideally coding snippets!

Hi both!
1) I have searched the framework like a mad man an dI think I will dream of all these IF_WD... and CL_WD... most having the useful information in protected or even private areas. A fact I cannot really understand.
2) Although some kind of "criminal" I trewd to go the way in the second answer by creating child classes for cl_wd_abstr_table_column and cl_wd_table_column both containing the protected attribute PERSINDEX I need.
I added a public class get_pers_index to the child classes. So far so good.
But when I try to type-cast SAP standard instance to my instance vairables I get type-cast errors in both cases.
Any ideas?
Here's the relevant coding snippet:
DATA lo_table TYPE REF TO cl_wd_table.
DATA lo_table_columns TYPE cl_wd_table_column=>tt_table_column.
DATA lo_table_column TYPE REF TO cl_wd_table_column.
DATA lo_table_column2 TYPE REF TO /rand/cl_wd_table_column.
DATA lt_abstr_table_columns TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF REF TO cl_wd_abstr_table_column.
DATA ls_abstr_table_column TYPE REF TO cl_wd_abstr_table_column.
data lo_abstr_table_column type ref to /rand/cl_wd_abstr_table_column.
data lv_pers_index type i.
lo_table ?= wd_this->mv_view->get_element( 'RLTAB' ).
lt_abstr_table_columns = lo_table->get_grouped_columns( ).
LOOP AT lt_abstr_table_columns INTO ls_abstr_table_column.
lo_table_column ?= ls_abstr_table_column.                 "this casting is successful
lo_table_column2 ?= lo_table_column.                      "this casting throws type-cast exception
lv_pers_index = lo_table_column2->get_pers_index( ).
lo_abstr_table_column ?= ls_abstr_table_column.           "this casting throws type-cast exception, too
lv_pers_index = lo_abstr_table_column->get_pers_index( ).
ENDLOOP.
Any help very welcome.
Thanx and Regards,

• Usage of sequence for uploading data into tables(column store) using CSV

How to make use of sequence when data is uploaded into table(column store) with the CSV file ?

Hi Sharada,
You may have to follow the below steps:
1) To load the data from flat file to a Staging table using IMPORT command
2) You have to call the procedure to load the data further into final Table.
a) Have a look on this procedure to load data :
SAP HANA: Generic Procedure using Arrays to Load delta data into Tables
b) See my reply on the syntax on how to use "Sequence"
Auto-Incrementor in stored procedure!
You will have to ensure that you frame your insert query in such a way to have the sequence number in the target table.

• Controle the WD table column position Sequence

HI All,
How to controle the WD table column position (not ALV) in webdynpro as per custom requirnment.
Column1, Column2, Column3, Column4…………
I looked into CL_WD_TABLE to see any possibility.
Can anyone suggest me the right one?

Hi,
Can we rearrange the existing columns of nodes by passing the index and column name.
Unfortunately, No! you have to remove the column and add it.
As I have already have a component with table need to rearrange the columns.
Is it a standard component or custom component?
If it is a custom component, you can rearrange by right click on column and move up/down.
If it is a standard component, consider deleting the table( Remove Element) in enhancement mode and then create a new Table UI with specified order. Or, create a post exit in wddomodifyview and then get the table reference and use remove_column( ) add_column( ) methods
code snippet:
DATA: lr_table TYPE REF TO cl_wd_table,
lr_abs_col TYPE REF TO cl_wd_abstr_table_column,
lr_col     TYPE REF TO cl_wd_table_column.
IF first_time EQ abap_true.
* get table reference
lr_table ?= view->get_element( id = 'TABLE ). " ID of Table UI
CALL METHOD lr_table->remove_grouped_column
EXPORTING
id                = 'COL1' " column
index             = 1      " index
RECEIVING
the_grouped_column = lr_abs_col.
lr_col ?= lr_abs_col.
CALL METHOD lr_table->add_column
EXPORTING
index              = 20  " new index
the_column     = lr_col.
ENDIF.
hope this helps u,

• What table column size is needed to accomodate Unicode characters

Hi guys,
I have encounter something which i dont understand and i hope gurus here will shed some light on me.
I am running a non-unicode database and i decided to port the data over to a unicode database.
So
1) i export the schema out --> data.dmp
2) then i create the unicode database + create a user
3) then i import the schema into the database
during the imp i can see that character conversion will take place.
During importing of data into the unicode database
I encounter some error
saying column size is too small
so i went to check the row that has the column value that is too large to fit in the table.
I realise it has some [][][][] data.. so i went to the live non-unicode database and find the row. Indeed it has some [][][][] rubbish data which i feel that someone has inserted other language then english into the database.
But regardless,
I went to modify the column size to a larger size, now the row can be accommodated. However the data is still [][][].
q1) why so ? since now my database is unicode, during the import, this column data [][][] should be converted to unicode already but i still have problem seeing what language it is.
q2) why at the non-unicode database, the [][][] data can fit into the table column size, but on unicode database, the same table column size need to be increase ?
q3) while doing more research on unicode, it was said that unicode character takes up 2 byte per character. Alot of my table data are exactly the same size of the table column size.
E.g Name VARCHAR2(5);
value - 'Peter'
Now if converting to unicode, characters will take 2byte instead of 1, isnt 'PETER' going to take up 10byte ( 2 byte per character ),
why is it that i can still accomodate the data into the table column ?
q4) now with unicode database up, i will be supporting different language characters around the world. How big should i set my column size to ? the longest a name can get ? or ?
Thanks guys!

/// does oracle automatically "look" at the each and individual characters in a word and determine how much byte it should take.
Characters usually originate from a keyboard, which has an associated keyboard layout and an associated character set encoding (a.k.a code page, a.k.a. encoding). This means, the keyboard driver knows that when a key with a letter "á" on it is pressed on a French keyboard, and the associated character set encoding is MS Code Page 1252 (Oracle name WE8MSWIN1252), then one byte with the value 225 is generated. If the associated character set encoding is UTF-16LE (standard internal Windows encoding), two bytes 225 and 0 are generated. When the generated bytes travel through APIs, they may undergo character set conversions from one encoding to another encoding. The conversion algorithms use translation tables to find out how to translate given byte sequence from one encoding to another encoding. In case of translation from WE8MSWIN1252 to AL32UTF8, Oracle will know that the byte sequence resulting from conversion of the code 225 should be 195 followed by 161. For a Chinese characters, for example when converting it from ZHS16GBK, Oracle knows the resulting sequence as well, and this sequence is usually 3 bytes.
This is how AL32UTF8 data gets into a database. Now, when Oracle processes a multibyte string, and needs to look at individual characters, for example to count them with LENGTH, or take a substring with SUBSTR, it uses information it has about the structure of the character set. Multibyte character sets are of two type: fixed-width and variable-width. Currently, Oracle supports only one fixed-width multibyte character set in the database: AL16UTF16, which is Oracle's name for Unicode UTF-16BE encoding. It supports this character set for NCHAR/NVARCHAR2/NCLOB data types only. This character set uses two bytes per each character code. To find the next code, 2 is simply added to the string pointer.
All other Oracle multibyte character sets are variable-width character sets, including AL32UTF8. In most cases, the length of each character code can be determined by looking at its first byte. In AL32UTF8, the number of 1-bits in the most significant positions in the first byte before the first 0-bit tells how many bytes a character has. 0 such bits means 1 byte (such codes are identical to 7-bit ASCII), 2 such bits mean two bytes, 3 bits mean 3 bytes, 4 bits mean four bytes. 1 bit (e.g. the bit sequence 10) starts each second, third or fourth byte of a code.
In other ASCII-based multibyte character sets, the number of bytes is usually determined by the value range of the first byte. Bytes below 128 means a one-byte code, bytes above 128 begin a two- or three-byte sequence, depending on the range.
There are also EBCDIC-based (mainframe) multibyte character sets, a.k.a shift-sensitive character sets, where a sequence of two-byte codes is introduced by inserting the SO character (code 14=0x0e) and ended by inserting the SI character (code 15=0x0f). There are also character sets, like ISO-2022-JP, which use more complicated byte sequences to define the length and meaning of byte sequences but Oracle supports them only in limited number of places.
/// e.g i have a word with 4 character. the 3rd character will be a chinese character..the rest are ascii character
/// will oracle use 4 byte per character regardless its ascii(english) or chinese
No.
/// or it will use 1 byte per english character then 3 byte for the chinese character ? e.g.total - 6 bytes taken
It will use 6 bytes.
Thnx,
Sergiusz

• Whats the available privileges on a table column

Dear all,
i want to know whats the available privileges that i can assign on a table coulmn.
and the revoke privileges
Best Regards,
Shooosh

If I have well understands, the principals are
The following are the object privileges that can be granted to users of the
database:
SELECT Grants read (query) access to the data in a table, view, sequence,
or materialized view.
UPDATE Grants update (modify) access to the data in a table, column,
view, or materialized view.
DELETE Grants delete (remove) access to the data in a table, view, or
materialized view.
INSERT Grants insert (add) access to a table, column, view, or
materialized view.
EXECUTE Grants execute (run) privilege on a PL/SQL stored object, such
as a procedure, package, or function.
GRANT SELECT, UPDATE ON CUSTOMER TO JAMES;
You can revoke a user’s object privileges and system privileges by using the
REVOKE statement.
but I believe that you am more profit reading manual: dba administrator or sql reference

• Change of columns sequence

Is there a possibility to add a new column to a table NOT at the end of the table?
The only way I can think of is to update the COLUMN_ID in the data dictionary table USER_TAB_COLUMNS, which is probably not a very good idea.
Thanks
Bernhard Slominski

Add the column (at the end of the column list).
Rename the table (e.g. RENAME EMP TO EMP#;).
Create a view (with the old name of the table) on the renamed table, with a column sequence as you like (e.g. CREATE VIEW EMP AS SELECT col1,colnew,col2 FROM EMP#;).
Work with the view instead of the table.
By the way, your software should never rely on the column sequence.

• Feature Request | Allow custom metadata per table/column to be stored

Someone please correct me if there's already a feature that allows this...
I'd like to see a feature where you can define a set of metadata that can be stored per table / column, and perhaps a trigger that updates that metadata.
As a use case, it is sometimes necessary to find out how many records exist in a table, and the typical way of doing this is by running a statement like select count(*) from example_table;. With a large table, this statement might take a long time though, and certainly has overhead associated with it. If this is something that's done on a regular basis, like maybe even once every minute, wouldn't it be much better to store this number as metadata for the table that can be updated on inserts and deletes and then can be queried? It might involve extra overhead on an insert or delete statement to add to or subtract from this number, but then for some applications the benefit of getting the count quickly might outweigh the extra overhead.
Another use case is finding a minimum or maximum out of a table. Say you store a date and you need to find the max value for some feature in your application; with a large table, and especially if its a date with accuracy to the millisecond where an index wouldn't help much because most values are unique, it can take quite a bit of time and overhead to find that max value. If you could define for that column that you'd like to store the max value in metadata, and could query it, it would be very quick to get the info. The added overhead in this scenario would be on insert, update or especially on delete, the value would have to be updated. But in some applications, if you don't expect alot of deletes or updates on this column, it might be worth the added overhead to be able to quickly find the max value for this column.
I know you could probably make a separate table to store such info, and write triggers to keep it up to date, but why not have a built in feature in Oracle that manages it all for you? When you create a table, you could define with the column definition something like 'METADATA MAX' and it will store the max value of that column in metadata for you, etc.
I know that the overhead of this feature wouldn't be good for most circumstances, but there certainly are those cases where it would be hugely beneficial and the overhead wouldn't matter so much.
Any thoughts?
Can this be submitted as a feature request? Am I asking in the right place?
(p.s. while you're at it, make a feature to mimic IDENTITY columns from SQL Server!)

I don't think what you mentioned is exactly what I was talking about. There's no min_value or max_value in the dba_tab_columns table; there's only high_value and low_value, and they are stored in binary. And I believe to be accurate in the use cases that I suggested, you would have to analyze the table after every insert/update/delete. So no, that's not the same feature I've asked for, although I appreciate the feedback.
Also, the num_rows in dba_tables relies on the table being analyzed too, so for a table that stores temporary date to be processed where you want to know the size of the queue every few seconds, it wouldn't make sense to analyze the whole table every few seconds when all you want is a count of the records, and it's also inefficient to use the COUNT function with every query when it would be much faster to store the count in some metadata form that is updated with every insert or delete (adding to a count and subtracting from a count with each insert/delete is WAY faster than analyzing the table and letting it literally recount the entire table every time).
So again, while I appreciate the feedback, I don't think what you mentioned addresses either of the use cases I gave. I'm talking about a different kind of user defined metadata that could be stored per table/column with rules to govern how it is updated. Not you standard metadata that requires an analyze and isn't real time. I also only gave a few use cases, but the feature I'm really looking for is the ability for users to define many different types of custom metadata even maybe based on their own logic.
Again, this feature could be implemented right now by creating a USERMETADATA table for every standard table you have, and then using triggers to populate the info you want at the table level and column level, but why do that when it could be built in?
Also, I don't really agree that having to create a trigger/sequence for every table instead of setting a column as IDENTITY is better. It's cumbersome. Why not build these commonly used features in? It can create a trigger/sequence behind the scenes for all I care, but why not at least let someone mark a column as IDENTITY (or use whatever other term you want) at the time of table creation and let it do everything for them. But that's off-topic; I meant it for more of a side comment, but should really have a separate post about it.

• BlockAxis.addExpr, BlockAxis.insertExpr, and column sequence

Hi, the columns I create using the SDK are appearing in reports in an apparently random sequence. It appears that just calling BlockAxis.addExpr does not cause columns to appear in the correct sequence.
In addition, I've tried calling BlockAxis.addExpr(expresssion) once for my final column, then calling BlockAxis.insertExpr(expresssion, 0) repeatedly for subsequent columns (in reverse order from N-1 to 0). This changes the sequence, but the result still looks random to me.
I recall a similar issue with object insert orders in the Universe Designer SDK.
How do I control the column sequence when I build reports?
Thanks, Eric

Hello Eric,
I don't see the behavior you do, and am wondering what axis setting you're using for your block.
Here's a code snippet:
cell = reportContainer.getReportBody().createFreeCell(" Free Cell ");
cell.setX(20.0);
cell.setY(10.0);
cell.getFont().setName("Arial");
cell.getFont().setSize(16);
cell.getFont().setStyle(StyleType.BOLD);
reportBlock = reportContainer.getReportBody().createBlock();
reportBlock.setAttachTo(cell, VAnchorType.BOTTOM, HAnchorType.NONE);
dictionary = doc.getDictionary();
blockAxis = reportBlock.getAxis(TableAxis.HORIZONTAL);
blockAxis.addExpr(dictionary.getChildByName("City"));
blockAxis.addExpr(dictionary.getChildByName("Store name"));
blockAxis.addExpr(dictionary.getChildByName("State"));
documentInstance.applyFormat();
and it appears to add cells to the Table Block in order in which the expressions were added.
Sincerely,
Ted Ueda

Hi All,
I am new to OATS and I am trying to create script for testing ADF application using open script tool. I face issues in recording two events.

I'm not sure if you want the values from the attribute or the element, but this should give you a good start :
SQL> alter session set nls_numeric_characters = ".,";
Session altered
SQL>
SQL> select x.*
2  from my_table t
3     , xmltable(
4         xmlnamespaces('http://www.oracle.com/fsg/2002-03-20/' as "sg")
5       , '/MasterReport/sg:RptDef/sg:RptLine'
6         passing xmltype(t.xmldoc)
7         columns type    varchar2(30) path 'sg:RptCell[1]'
8               , amount  number       path 'sg:RptCell[2]'
9       ) x
10  ;
TYPE                               AMOUNT
debits                                100
credits                               100

• 'sort' icon in the header of table column

Hi everybody,
I am using table UI element in WD ABAP. Table columns can be sorted and the method fro event 'onSort' is defined.
On each table column header a tool tip with icons ▲▼ appears when the cursor is moved over the right side of the column header.
Is it possible to make this icon appear on the right of each column header permanently?
Thank you for your help,
Helen

Hi Jörg,
We are using IE6 or IE7. And nothing appears. ONSort action exists and defined.
May be I will create internal message for ABAP WD.
Kind regards,
Helen

• Which option to use to search text in multiple table columns

Hi, I have a case where I have 4 db tables. On the UI there is an option to search a keyword from some columns of these 4 tables.
Table1 = summary, description are the columns user can search on
Table2 = project_name is the column user can search on
Table3 = need_by_date is the column user can search on
Table4 = owner is the column user can search on
On the UI, user can enter a keyword and check the columns they want to search on. Out of the above, they can check one column, or more, or all.
My question is what is the best option to use oracle text search in this case.
Option 1 = I create a procedure to select these columns and then create an index on this procedure. In this case, is there a way to specify
which columns to search on?
Option 2= Create 4 separate indexes on these table/columns and then query the columns which user has selected to search on.
Any other better idea?

Hi,
multicolumn only works on columns in the same table.
If you can also query just on one field, then an index per field will be preferable. If you query always on all the fields then the one index approach is good. For this last the options are:
1. Use User_datastore, create a procedure and a dummy column
2. Create a materialized view for the query and build an index on this materialized view
3. Store the fields as an xml in the main table and index the xml column.
The maintanance of options 1 and 3 are bigger, because you need triggers to be aware of an update. Option 2 and 3 will need more storage.

• Urgent Help Required for Check Box in Table Column

Hi all,
Could any body help me to solve my problem?
First of all I have created a table whose one column is check box. The column of the tables are Name,Phone,ID,Address and a checkBox columns.In one view
the table will be found with data. I want to click on some of the rows(suppose there are 5 rows, but based on some condition I have selected the check box of 3 rows).
Next there will be a button(Supose SEND Button).
After selecting the check box I want to press that button and then a new window will come which will show two tables. one for selected rows(with the same columns name except check box) and another for Unchecked rows with the same column name(Name,Phone,ID,Address).
Could any body help me by sending the details and code?
Thanks and Regards.
Sudip

Hi Sudip,
1) create custom controller and appropriate context structure there (dataNode(Name,Phone,ID,Address,Check))
2) create view StartView. Map data node from custom controller to node in view. Create table and bind context node attributes to appropriate table columns.
3) create view ResultView. Map data node from custom controller to node in view. Create 2 nodes (CheckedData, UncheckedData) with supply methods. Create filtering implementation in supply methods (add checked and unchecked node elements to appropriate nodes).
4) create new window with resultView as default view
4) in startView in button action handler put something like
IWDWindowInfo _windowInfo = wdComponentAPI.getComponentInfo().findInWindows("Popup");
IWDWindowManager manager = wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager();
IWDWindow _window = manager.createWindow(_windowInfo, true);
_window.open();
So, just tried localy and it works.
Best regards, Maksim Rashchynski.
