hello all,
I have to take a backup of table on monthly basis. for this table name should be concatenated with previous month and year eg., product_may09.. I tried with Create table stmnt its not working anyone please help.

It would be very generous from you if you would provide us with versions, what you did and what's not working (maybe an error message?)...
Anyway; If I got you right you want to create a backup table with the same structure and data as in your base table?
maybe this:
forms_ddl('create table product_'||to_char(sysdate, 'monyy')||' as select * from product');fits your requirement. This creates you a table with the same structure and data as your basetable (except the primary/foreign keys, indices and trigger you have on the basetable).
But if you have to do this every month by hand I'd go for a database job which runs once a month with the above statement. In database procedures you have to use execute immediate instead of forms_ddl; usage is the same (except execute immediate raises intelligent exceptions in contrary to forms_ddl). take a look at http://tahiti.oracle.com and search after dbms_job or dbms_scheduler (depending the database version you use which you also didn't mention)

1. Change of Month names as per selection of Month / Year e.g. If the user select April 08 then the column name should be April 08, at the same time the next column should be April 07.
2. Next there are two in -line totals as per different logic as recurring rows. e.g Row header is Total and it totals the items in the column, next row header is Comparable total and it is based on checking the adjacent column values for doing the total.
Please let us know if this is feasible and can be done using BI Publisher. If you have any alternate way of doing it using OBIEE also , please share.

The parameter / prompt used is for month which can have values from JAN , feb, MAR, APR,....... DEC. and the other PROMPT being YEAR e.g. 2006, 2007, 2008.
The Column Name of the Report SHould get changed as April 08 if selected as month APril and year 2008.The subsequent column of the report should be April 2007. The same applicable for selecting any month/ year
Layout of Report as below
SALES

Is there a way I can create a table and table name has sysdate attached to it?
something like create table mysample_yyyymmdd
So my create table statement would be like
create table mysample_yyyymmdd as select * from emp;
Everytime I give the above, it should substitute yyyymmdd with sysdate

But aside from all the answers telling you how to do it, the main thing should be a question asking why on Earth you would want to do that?
Table names should be known, not dynamic.
If there is a need to mark data in some sort of group or set, then this information should be stored inside the table as data.
In terms of data warehouses we would use dimensions and partitioned tables. In terms of regular relational tables we would probably just store a datestamp against each record and again perhaps use partitioned tables.
Really you should be looking at what you are trying to achieve overall.
Dynamic tables names are generally considered a Bad Idea ^tm^

From the above tables you will get Solt to Party & Ship to Party Codes.
For Customer names you have to pass the Customer Codes to Table - KNA1

The result is

rwo2:: emp_1 ---> Both the tables have same structure and entirely different data... please dont ask why... that's the way it is and we cant change it..
Now we need to run an Insert...
insert into tableX (col1,col2,...) select a,b,... from <o/p of the cursor> where <blah> ...
Note: The table name changes and it the cursor can o/p emp,emp_a and emp_b.
Am looking to do it parallel instead of doing it serially and with best performance ....no sql injection issues.
By parallel i mean
insert into tableX (col1,col2,...) select a,b,... from emp where <blah>
and insert into tableX (col1,col2,...) select a,b,... from emp_1 where <blah> statements to fire parallel/at the same time to the database. If you can share procedure if you guys already have with you.. is really appreciated

I tried to implement the chunk by sql parallel execution approach and it took 3.1 seconds to complete.. while the SP took around 0.042 seconds and the parallel process didn't throwed any errors and it didn't insert any data either... I am not sure what I am doing wrong... can you please let me know your thoughts...

A name should not start with any special characters

I need to put a condition in iF statement such that a name that is given by the user should not start with any special charecters.A dialog box should display indicating this conditon.Can u plz give sample code for this.My code is as below.

Is it possible to get the containing table name of a UDT with ToCustomObj?

I got several UDTs that I use in various different tables, in order to update them I need to know which table they came from (I handle updates manually). I'm looking for a way to store the table name the UDT came from in the ToCustomObject method during mapping. Is it possible to do that?

Can I pass table name as parameter in prepared Statement
for example
select * from ? where name =?
when i use setString method for passing parameters this method append single colon before and after of this parameter but table name should be send with out colon as SQL Spec.
I have another way to make sql query in programing but i have a case where i have limitation of that thing so please tell me is it possible with prepared Statment SetXXx methods or not ?

Well, I would say (ugly as it is) String concatenation, or stored procedures.

Import table with a different table name!

Now i want to import 2 tables from this backup, as tables already exists i want to import table with different table name.

Well, its not possible.You can import those two tables in some test database, rename them and then take the export and import in the database you want.
Or,
You can import those 2 tables in some other schema in your database, rename them again take the export and them import it.

How to retrive table names with Java?

If I connect to my Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Instance with some Java code and I run the following code:
               ResultSet resultSet = databaseMetaData.getTables(null, null, "%", types);
               while( resultSet.next() )
                    String tableName = resultSet.getString(3);
                    System.out.println(tableName);
I get loads of different names of tables beside those that belongs to my user like:
DR$NUMBER_SEQUENCE
DR$OBJECT_ATTRIBUTE
DR$POLICY_TAB
ARTICLES
BIN$tQZXQ0iGufbgQAB/AQELFg==$0
BIN$tQZXQ0iLufbgQAB/AQELFg==$0
But when I log in to http://127.0.0.1:9090/apex I get a perfect list of the tables belonging to the user:

CUSTOMERS
DATATYPES
ORDERROWS
ORDERS
REQUESTROWS
REQUESTS
SUPPLIERROWS
SUPPLIERS
Does any one understand how to access just these table names that is created with my user?
