Taking Sun's J2ee exams.. (SCWCD Vs. SCBCD)

[Ref: http://in.sun.com/education/certification/java/java_busj23e.html]
I want to take one (just one) of the Sun's j2ee certifications. Which one you think would be more benificial..
SCWCD (j2ee 1.4) <-- servlets/jsps(2.0) etc
or
SCBCD (j2ee 1.3) <-- EJBs etc.
I work in the company where both these topic equally frequently used..
[Not sure if this is the right forum for such questions]
-a.

Hi,
If your company does equal amounts of both web tier and ejb tier work, then one way to decide is to base it on your level of familiarity and experience with each topic. These are pretty comprehensive exams, and despite the fact that it's technically possible to prepare by just studying the specs, the best experience will probably result from taking the one that you have more knowledge of now and that you're more likely to be using at work while preparing for the exam. Good luck!

  • Finished taking Sprinkler CLD Practice Exam

    I am planning on taking my CLD this coming week, and just finished taking this practice exam. Since I studied the car wash and ATM solutions I decided to go for the Sprinkler practie exam. The "Sprinkler CLD.zip" file is the results of 4 dedicated hours of my Saturday.
    I ran the VI analyzer on all VIs and CTLs and I'm not impressed with myself. Could somebody tell me how they think I would score?
    I looked at the solution for the Sprinkler.vi and it's clear that my approach is nothing like the solution from NI. This could be a good or a very bad thing.
    It appears quick comments could mean alot if the graders depend heavily on the VI Analyzer.  It appears that I should have at least two comments in each VI, and not only have the documentation section filled in the VI but the same for controls.
    It's clear that I missed some wires when I resized my case select boxes.
    After finishing the exam and then looking back i see there is a possible lock out condition on initialization that would prevent the VI from reading the CSV file. I shouldn't have created a  "READ CSV" State. If i would have placed the "READ CSV FILE" inside the "Power Up Configuration" state there would be no issues. I should have restarted labview in my last hour.  If the VI starts up with the Water Pressure above 50% and No Rain then the CSV file is read and there is no problem. This would have been an obvious mistake had I restarted labview.
    I realize that I missed some of the specifications. For example if it starts raining during a sequence it is suppose to restart the sequence, not pause it.
    There are few comments in the code. I usually add many comments to my code, but this is my first time using a simple state engine.
    At work I have a large infrastructure already in place complete with error handling and task management.  I am also use to working on multiple monitors. During the test I only used one. Even if I didn’t pass this practice exam at least having a dry run outside my normal work condition was very good practice.
    I spent time practicing earlier and can build the Timer.VI in about 8 minutes. A functional global timer seems to be a common theme in the practice exams.
    Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?
    Do you think I would have passed the CLD exam with this test?
    Comments?

    There are a lot of good things in your code, you are nearly there. I haven't run your code, so this is more style and documentation comments.
    If I were you, I would concentrate on the following:
    Wire Error through all your subVI's put your subvi code in an error/no error case structure. If you had done that, you didn't need the flat sequence structure in your code.
    You haven't even wired error to the subvi's with error terminals, this will cost you points.
    Label any constants on the block diagram.
    Brief description of Algorithm on each VI block diagram.
    You could have avoided using local variables, for example Run Selector as this control is available in the cluster. So just a unbundle by name would have given you the value of that control. If you do use them, then make sure you state why (for example efficiency etc.) in a block diagram comment.
    Some subVis are missing VI documentation, this wont be taken lightly.
    Using default value when unwired (for your while loop stop) is not recommended. This was specifically discussed during a CLD preparation class I attended not so long ago.
    While icons are pretty, I wouldn't waste time trying to find glyphs for your subvi's just consistent text based icon scheme is perfectly acceptable. You can do this if you do have extra time, it wont fetch your extra points though.
    LabVIEW 2012 has sub diagram labels, you can enable this by default in Tools>>Options, adding comments in each of the cases is recommended.
    The main thing is time management and make sure you read other posts/blogs on CLD. I would also recommend quick drop, if you haven't started using this it may not be a good idea to do so now for your exam next week. But in general it is very useful and saves time.
    Hope this helps.

  • URGENT ! Using Sun's J2EE RI Server with MS SQL Server 2000

    I'm using the J2EE Server that comes with the J2EE 1.3.1 package from Sun. I'm trying to load a datasource using the free MS SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC, but I'm always getting this error (I've run out of ideas so maybe someone in this forum can help):
    java.rmi.ServerException: RemoteException occurred in server thread; nested exception is: java.rmi.RemoteException: nested exception is: javax.ejb.EJBException: Unable to connect to database. No suitable driver; nested exception is: javax.ejb.EJBException: Unable to connect to database. No suitable driver ...
    I'm using MS SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC, my classpath setting is:
    CLASSPATH=D:\j2sdk1.4.0_01\jre\lib\ext\mysql-connector-j-2.0.14;D:\MS-JDBC-Driver\lib\msbase.jar;D:\MS-JDBC-Driver\lib\mssqlserver.jar;D:\MS-JDBC-Driver\lib\msutil.jar;E:\Installers\Java Related\jdbc dirvers\JSQLConnect3_27\JSQLConnect.jar
    I have the same J2EE_CLASSPATH setting in my userconfig.bat file.
    I've loaded this driver class in deploytool:
    com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
    and my connection url is:
    jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433;databasename=test
    What's weird is that I've also tested these settings with a simple Java Application and they worked fine, but when I try to use the same for the j2ee server from sun, I always get the annoying "no suitable driver" error.
    If anyone has ever come up with a solution that works, please help. You may post you reply here or better yet, email me at [email protected]
    Thanks a lot in advance !

    Hi,
    The error "no suitable driver" occurs when something goes wrong with the connection URL.so make sure that u are using the correct URL format (check if any of the info is case sensitive etc) or atleast try other URL alternatives (for MS jdbc driver).
    try these changes only through deployment tool->tools->server configuration->datasources->standard.(instead of editing resource.properties directly).
    last not the least - make sure that there is NO "rem" keyword before "set J2EE_CLASSPATH" in the userconfig.bat file :)

  • SUN One & J2EE Installation Problems

    Every time I run the setup program for Sun One and J2EE I get the following error message before setup even get's going (ie when setup.exe hides the command prompt it returns with the following error message:)
    "Error writing native components to disk. Aborting wizard"
    I'm running WinXP Pro ..
    I've asked around for a solution to this problem. At the moment my last resort solution is to do a format of my machine and try again =) because all my mates have had no bother so far.
    If anyone could give me a hint as to what's wrong I'd be utterly grateful.
    Regards,
    Shaun

    As wierd as it sounds, one of the things that will trigger this behaviour is if you have a file called Documents on the drive where your %USERPROFILE% directory is. For instance, if %USERPROFILE% is c:\documents and settings\username, the existance of c:\Documents will break native toolkit bootstrap process.
    Workaround is to temporarily rename the file and run the installation...

  • Are there any sun certified books for SCWCD similar to SCJP?

    I am searching for SCWCD Sun certified (published by Sun)books like ,
    SCJP has sun certified books having 9 chapters that are in very clear manner.

    Try

  • How much studying before taking Sun Cert. Programmer test

    I am trying to switch careers, in College (which was 1 1/2 years ago) I did programming along with physics (computational physics). I worked as an engineer for a year, now I want to get back into programming. I thought a good first step might be to get my certification as a Java Programmer (then maybe J2EE, and then the developer). I was going to study on my own, but I think my schooling did a decent job of putting it in my subconscious. I am lacking some breadth though.
    I was going to study on my own with a book and then mess around with programming while I'm studying, but how long do you think I should give myself before I take the test. I'd like to pass the first time...I have little money to blow.

    hi,
    the java 2 certification guide is, after reading the tutorial, ... a good starting point. covers questions taken from the cert guides.

  • Difference betwween CX-310-081  and CX-310-083 SCWCD exam

    Hi,
    I'm planning to take SCWCD certification.I got confused between the veriosn CX-310-081 and CX-310-083. Is there any differnece in these two exams other than the time limit and number of questions. I had a look at the objectives of the two exams at SUN site, but couldn't find any differnece. Is CX-310-083 SCWCD5 really based on J2EE5 version which includes servlet 2.5 ,JSP 2.1 etc. I did a lot of research over iternet and found in some of the sites that CX-310-083 SCWCD5 is based on servlet2.4 and JSP 2.0.Is it right?I'm really confused.Please anyone let me know the real differnece.I need to clarify this from SUN otherwise my might run into problems while writing the exam.
    Any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks

    The CX-310-083 exam is indeed based upon J2EE 5. The other exam is the earlier version of J2EE and moreover I believe Sun is only offering the eariler exam until the end of this month. Then it will not be offered, but those already holding vouchers have one year to take the exam.

  • Sun J2EE SDK 1.3_01, java.lang.ClassCastException thrown during deployment

    I encountered a bug while using the deploytool to deploy
    an EAR file to the Sun J2EE 1.3_01 server.
    I submitted a bug report to Sun via the Sun Java Developer Connection.
    (Sorry, it has not been assigned a BugID yet)
    Question:
    Does anybody know if the web container in Sun's
    J2EE 1.3_01 server supports access to local enterprise beans?
    Screenshots of the bug are available at
    http://sync4j.sourceforge.net/deploymentbug/
    Full details below....
    -Sean
    category: j2ee
    subcategory: deployment
    release: 1.3_01
    hardware: x86
    OSversion: windows_2000
    synopsis: java.lang.ClassCastException thrown during deployment of Session bean
    java -version
    java version "1.3.1_01"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_01)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1_01, mixed mode)
    C:\j2sdkee1.3\bin>j2ee -version
    Java 2 Enterprise Edition version 1.3_01, build 1.3_01-b01
    I built a EJB 2.0 compliant stateful session bean.
    The session bean has a remote interface (ISyncRemote),
    a remote home interface (ISyncHomeRemote),
    a local interface (ISyncLocal),
    and a local home interface (ISyncHomeLocal).
    I built an HTTP Servlet that is supposed to access
    the Stateful Session Bean using ISyncHomeLocal and
    ISyncLocal
    I run "deploytool.bat" in GUI mode to perform the deployment.
    During deployment, the deploytool GUI displays a message
    box which states:
    "There was a deployment error.
    java.rmi.ServerException: RemoteException occurred in server thread;
    nested exception is:
    java.rmi.RemoteException: An error was encountered while loading
    a web component.
    Please refer to
    <J2EE_HOME>/logs/<machine-name>/j2ee//j2ee/error.log
    for more information. Please verify your Application with the
    Verifier tool."
    The "error.log" file did not contain any useful information.
    I ran the J2EE "verifier.bat" tool to verify that my EAR archive is OK.
    The Sun J2EE server output this error string:
    "java.lang.ClassCastException:
    com.sun.enterprise.deployment.EjbExternalDescriptor"
    Here is the full output from the Sun J2EE server:

    Does the Sun J2EE server implementation support the invocation
    of Session EJB's via a Local interface?
    Does the Sun J2EE server implementation allow a Servlet to invoke
    Session EJB's via the bean's Local interface?
    While researching this issue, I read the J2EE 1.3 final specification.
    The spec says:
    "The EJB container is required to access to local enterprise beans.
    We recommend that the web container also support access to local
    enterprise beans."
    Does the web container in Sun's J2EE server support access to local enterprise beans?

    I'm pretty much sure that you cannot access a
    local Session bean from outside the EJB container.Please read the J2EE 1.3 specification before posting messages about EJB and J2EE.
    According to the J2EE 1.3 specification:
    "The EJB container is required to support access to local enterprise beans. We recommend that the web container also support access to local enterprise beans.
    No support is provided for access to local enterprise beans from the application client container or the applet container."
    If you use local interfaces for your session bean,
    than your client must be local too. A local client is
    a client that is collocated in the same JVM with the
    session/entity that provides the local view and which
    can be tightly coupled to the bean.My client is running in the same JVM as my EJB. The client is a servlet. The servlet is running in the same JVM as the EJB.
    For what its worth, the error that I observed occurs during deployment. I haven't figured out why deployment is failing.

  • TOMCAT 4.0 & SUN J2EE Implementation 1.3.1

    Did anybody have any success configuring those two together?????
    It seems like no meter what I do Tomcat is only looking at its own Context.
    I had no problem accessing EJB sitting on SUN's J2EE Impl from IBM WAS, by specifying different javax.naming.Context.PROVIDER_URL property
    Properties prop = System.getProperties();
    prop.setProperty(javax.naming.Context.PROVIDER_URL, "iiop://localhost:1050");
    javax.naming.Context ctx = new javax.naming.InitialContext(prop);
    Can't wait for your replies.

    Hi oleg68, I want to ask you some question.
    I deployed the cart application in the j2ee samples successfully and run it correctly on my localhost .In order to test its distributed character, I want to launch the application on another host.
    So I just copy the client classes the jar file returned during deployment to another host(also installed the j2ee sdk and enviroment variable was set up correctly). it is equal to say I launch the client application on another host in the same way as on localhost.
    but once I run the client applicaiton in that host to invoke the the EJB on my localhost, exception wiil be thrown as follows:
    javax.naming.CommunicationException: Can't find SerialContextProvider
    at com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialContext.getProvider(SerialContext.jav
    a:63)
    at com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialContext.lookup(SerialContext.java:120
    at javax.naming.InitialContext.lookup(InitialContext.java:350)
    at CartClient.main(CartClient.java:20)
    How can i dispose it,
    Thanks

  • Using JMS to connect to Sun's 1.4 J2EE server

    Hi,
    I've been reading around various postings detailing how to connect to J2EE servers at runtime, and they all seem to follow the format:
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialInitContextFactory");
    props.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "rmi://localhost");
    // Create a JNDI API InitialContext object
    // (may throw a NamingException)
    jndiContext = new InitialContext(props);
    But none of the discussion is totally complete. It seems incredibly difficult to connect to a J2EE server, and the documentation on the issue is incredibly poor.
    I'd like to do this without the 'appclient' program that comes with Sun's J2EE server as I wish to have a development environment that can start up, connect to the J2EE server, and send messages.
    So has anyone managed to get this to work?
    I'm confused to where the username and password go. I've seen other suggestions to make the above work, including:
    props.put("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort", "3700");
    props.put("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost", "localhost");
    ORB orb = ORB.init(new String[] {}, props);
    props.put("java.naming.corba.orb", orb);
    Therefore can anyone clear this up for me! A few lines of code, showing exactly how I can connect to a J2EE server.
    All I want to do is send a few messages.. :)
    Cheers
    John

    I tried everything in this form but I could not send a message to queue from my standalone client.
    I am trying to communicate with my application server throught JMS almost a week. But I could not get any result. I even read twice some forms. Actually all I can say I progressed to here..
    My code is below...
    Context initialContext = new InitialContext();
                javax.jms.QueueConnectionFactory factory = (javax.jms.QueueConnectionFactory) initialContext.lookup("jmsFactory");
                Destination queue = (javax.jms.Queue) initialContext.lookup("jmsQueue");
                javax.jms.QueueConnection connection = factory.createQueueConnection();
                javax.jms.QueueSession session = connection.createQueueSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
                On the jmsQueue lookup there is the error... I create all the resources in my Sun System Application Server 8.2 PE...
    Please help or say some thing?
