Terminating a deleted process instance
Hi,
I have deleted a process before completing the process. and now i want to terminate the process thru "Maintain Processes" under the Guided Procedure Administration.
But when i select the process and click on terminate instances, i got this error message "Cannot stop instance No text available for object.: Illegal Argument "
Is there any other way i can remove this process away?
Regards,
Cindy
I reinstalled everything again.

Deleting Process Instances in Guided Procedures of NW CE 7.1
Hi,
I would like to ask is there a way to delete initiated process instances in Guided Procedures? I am facing this problem that in my Runtime there are so many outdates process instances (for previous test purpose) remaining, for example:
- Alerts & Warnings (24)
- Processes which I own (20)
- Processes which I oversee (20)
- Tasks that require my action (17)
I have found the following article regarding the problem ([Guided Procedures - New and Enhanced Features in SAP NW CE 7.1 EHP1|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce711/helpdata/en/87/563934e3f34114901ff69cd041ba38/content.htm]). But it seems that it is only available in EhP1.
When I navigate to Administration -> Manage Processes -> Find Processes.
I only can see these 3 buttons: "Change Authorization", "Terminate Instances" & "Complete Step". But without the "Delete Instances".
Using the "Terminate Instances" did not solve my problem too.
So I resort to this:
Guided Procedures Runtime -> Administration -> Maintain processes -> Archiving and Deleting -> Maintain Process Templates -> Global Settings -> Global Settings for Process Instances:
Completed:
- Delete (After 1 day)
Erroneous:
- Delete (After 1 day)
Terminated:
- Delete (After 1 day)
Still, this did not help me deleting the process instances.
Could anyone provide me a solution?

Joon Mengsolved.

Security Settings For Deleting Process Instance Information
Hi there,
We are currently having issues with our more "novice" users deleting "unsuccessful" or "error" process instances. Are their any security settings we could use for this type of user profile that would not allow them to delet these instances?
This is in PS Financials V8.9
Thanks, Dan
Edited by: user6340243 on 5-Mar-2009 9:58 AMHi Dan,
Yes you can do that. The process file associated with the Userid is not having Permission to alter process request.
Identify the Process Profile permission list:
Navigation: PeopleTools > Security > User Profile
Make changes to the Process profile permission list:
Navigation: PeopleTools > Security > Permission Lists
Select the appropriate process profile permission list.
Go to 'Process' Tab. Click on 'Process Profile Permissions' hyper link. Under 'Allow process request' section should be changed to Owner or none based on your requierment.
Hope this helps.

BPM 11g - Abort process instance
I have a BPMN process that does 3 things:
1. Calls the third party interface
2. Starts the Timer proces aynchronously. This timer process is to make sure that the task gets picked up up an admin user (Human Task);if we don't get the response within the agreed time limit.
3. Awaits the response.
So, when we get the response back from the backend system, it should do 2 things:
1. Stop the timer process.This could either be in a waiting state (i.e if the timer hasn't expired) or might have moved to the Human task step.
2. Notify the awaiting instance so that it is then moved onto the next step in the process.
I have used correlationId to match the request and response.It is working (with Send/Receive task) and notifying the waiting instance, but I am not sure how to abort the running Timer process.
Should I use an interrupting event subprocess in my Timer process, that if called should throw an exception. This will then move the Timer process instance to the Exception handling flow and that will lead to the termination of the process instance, or is there a better way to achieve this. TaskService is the other option I thought of, but to achieve this simple thing, I thought that would be an overkill. Is there a re-commended pattern to meet this requirement.
Thanks
Raj
Edited by: user588394 on 21-Feb-2013 09:04Hi Raj
1. Terminate means you want to End that Process no matter where it is at any instance of time. Say if I have BPM Process with 10 SwimLanes it can be at any of the Lanes with any User. I am taking simple Example with Human Tasks, but you can apply for other component like Timer servces etc.
2. I hope you are aware of 2 things specially for Human Tasks: Action named "Withdraw" and a role named "Process Owner". For any human task, under Actions menu you should See a Withdraw option. You can code your application to capture this output using XOR gateway and if outcome is "WITHDRAW" directly end the process and go to End Node. If you have many places like this, there is easy way instead of running wires eveywhere. Create a simple throw even that goes to End Node. And after each human task check outcome if Withdraw, that that error, which will end the process. I hope you got the point.
b) The reason I mentioned Process Owner is, generally I do NOT give Withdraw control to each User who can work on any Task. If accidentally that User do this action, thats it. The process ENDS and you can never retriive it back. So under .TASK file, I preven Withdraw action to Asssignee and Instead give this action only to OWNER (Process Owner). Process owner is like admin who can pretty much see any tasks and I would give him all the permissions like these Withdraw, Reassing, Suspend etc etc. This gives more controlled power to your application. Anyhow, in bpm workspace, login as process owner and search for any Task aged for long time and jus Withdraw it.
You can do all the above using APIs also as far as you have Withdraw action going to the End Node.
If your requirement is something else, ignore above notes. But still you can think along the above lines, if all you want is to Kill a Running Process anytime.

Process instances terminate upon application redeployment
Hello all,
I have been trying to find an answer for this question in the forums, but to no result.
I have created a proof-of-concept process and deployed it on the server. The process works just fine, containing Client Request controls, creating Tasks etc.
The problem is when, during development, I make some change in some helper class or the procees itself and redeploy the application. Even when I just rebuild/redeploy w/o any changes.
Then, any running process instances (e.g. blocked, waiting for a Client Response or a Task onComplete) are terminated w/o any message, at least not a message that I can see.
Is this a "feature" or have I forgotten to setup something correctly?
If this is a feature, why aren't the open Task Controls also terminated, like the process instances that created them are?
How can I prevent the process instances from being auto-terminated upon application redeployment?
My process' properties:
- freeze on failure: true
- persistent: always
- on sync failure: rethrow
- retry count: 1
- retry delay: <empty>
- stateless: false
- binding: webservice
- version strategy: loosely coupled
My configuration:
- Weblogic Integration 8.5 SP6
- Weblogic Server 8.1 SP6
- Back-end DB: the default DB server, that comes with the BEA installation
I would greatly appreciate any help/suggestions/links, as I find this feature/error very frustrating.
My apologies if this has already been answered before.
Thank you for your time,
S.OK, to answer my own question.
It was not a "problem", but a "feature".
I had the server starting in development mode, so by default process instances are terminated upon redeployment.
Editing the setDomainEnv.cmd and setting
set PRODUCTION_MODE=true
solved my "problem".
Hope this helps s/o in the future. -
CcBPM- Error process instance and error work item
Hi All,
I i just listing donw my queries about ccBPM.
1) What is the difference betwen process instance and work item?
I am presuming that, during ccBPM runtime message creates process instance and one process instance can have n number work item. Pleae correct me if i am wrong.
2) If one process instance is in error status, it means one of the work item is in error. is my undertanding right?
3) How should i edit/delete work item?
4) How should i edit/delete process instance?
Thanks
Rajesh1) What is the difference betwen process instance and work item?
I am presuming that, during ccBPM runtime message creates process instance and one process instance can have n number work item. Pleae correct me if i am wrong.
BPM comprises of many Steps. (Receive step, Send step, transform etc...) Durng runtime, A BPM is converted into SAP Workflow in the Background and gets executed. Hence all steps are referred to as WorkItems.
YES. ccBPM runtime creates multiple instances.. one BPM instance for each inpu message
2) If one process instance is in error status, it means one of the work item is in error. is my undertanding right?
Each process instance is independent of the other. Sometimes, the workitems blokc the processing if the other. Hence when the workitems block the processing, they should be deleted using SWWL.
3) How should i edit/delete work item?
4) How should i edit/delete process instance?
You cannot delete a process instance. But can delete the work items.

Programatically deleting the completed process instances
Hi,
I have too many completed process instances in my dev system. Deleting them using "Administration -> Archiving and Deleting" is very cumbersome and also giving lots of errors. Is it possible to delete all the completed/erroneous process instances programatically using GP API? If yes, could you please tell me what the class/package/api is? I searched through the API but did not find anything useful.
Thanks
RamHi David,
Thanks for the response. When I try to delete all process instances using the "Archiving and Deleting" tool, I get the below error. Looks like there is an error while loading all the process instances.

I tried the "Global Settings" to delete the completed, erroneous and terminated processes after 1 day, but it doesn't seem to be working.
Thanks

OIM 10g : SQL Script to Delete or Cancel process instance tasks for user resources
Hello,
I have users with a resource with a process instance that have a large number (1000) of task instance related to reconciliations (Reconciliation Update Received).
And when trying to revoke this resource, OIM take a long time to perfom this job, it is due to the fact that all this taks are canceled one by one...
My question is : I want to perform manualy using a script this cancel of all this tasks, or maybe better, delete all this tasks when there'are too many, can someone provide me this sql scripts.
Thanks in advance.I'm running this script into an adapter with the following code :
public boolean clearTaskInstances(String user_key, String process_name, String task_name) throws OIMException {
$logger.debug("Utils.clearTaskInstances() : Inside deleting task instances debug 1");
tcDataProvider provider = getOIMConnection().getDataBase();
$logger.debug("Utils.clearTaskInstances() : Inside deleting task instances debug 2");
String query = "DELETE FROM OSI WHERE OSI.MIL_KEY=" +
"(SELECT MIL.MIL_KEY FROM MIL WHERE MIL.TOS_KEY=" +
"(SELECT TOS_KEY FROM TOS LEFT JOIN PKG ON PKG.PKG_KEY=TOS.PKG_KEY WHERE PKG.PKG_NAME=" +
"'" + process_name + "') AND MIL.MIL_NAME='" + task_name + "'" +
"AND OSI.ORC_KEY IN (SELECT ORC.ORC_KEY FROM ORC WHERE ORC.USR_KEY='" + user_key +"'))";
$logger.debug("Utils/clearTaskInstance : Delete Query = " + query);
PreparedStatementUtil preparedStatement = new PreparedStatementUtil();
preparedStatement.setStatement(provider, query);
try {
preparedStatement.executeUpdate();
$logger.debug("Utils/clearTaskInstance : Delete Query executed");
return true;
} catch (Exception e) {
$logger.error("Utils/clearTaskInstance : Error while executing Delete Query : " + e);
return false;
, but this generate 18M of SQL error logs !!
The same SQL request in SQL Dev works fine, the same code with OIM 11gR2 works fine too, the problem seems to be only with OIM 9.1.
The first lines in the logs are :

How to delete GP process instance?
Good day! Am I able to delete an GP process instance? I can stop it by using IGPRuntimeManager.stopProcess, but I need to completly remove it - like it's possible from the GP Administartion page... Are there any undocument features? May be reflection?
Hi
check this thread to stop the GP Process Instance , hope this could help you
Re: Stopping a process remotely

Delete all instance for the BPM process
How can I delete all instances or specific instance of the BPM Process except redeploy the process and unchecked the keep all instance option??
Hi
Just a small correction. When you ReDeploy Workflow SCA file and Uncheck the option to keep running instances, if I am not wrong, all OLD instances are NOT deleted. They just become STALE (change the status). BUT these instances are still there in the Database but not show up in the Worklist/Workspace app. You may see these Tasks but you CANNOT open them and it says like Task Details Not Found etc.
But if your intention is to delete the instances permanently, then see the earlier post on how to delete from EM. This will take care of permanently deleting.
Thanks

Hi all,
What is the better wat to clear all process instances (Terminated, completed, Erroneus and so)?
I've tried the Archive with Delete option but without success.
Best regardsHi,
Go to GP Administration in portal.
Select Maintain Processes
Select All Processes
Check instance status which you want to clear.
Give the user who is either administrator or overseer or owner of the process.
Check the appropriate role(administrator or overseer or owner ).
Click find.
It will list the process instances, select the appropriate instance and click Terminate

How to get process instance activity information
We have the following need:
The process instance will be created either manually or by integration from another system. It is not possible to have two instances running for the same process, so we want to check if there is already one instance running for a given process. The business information that identifies the process uniquely are attributes of the process data object.
We need to find out how to:
1) check if there is already existing instance for the process giving the business information that identifies it
2) check if the existing instance is running or is ended/terminated
We want to know if there is any existing API we may use to achieve the needs above, what are them and where we can find more information of their use.
We have tried searching in the API documentation what methods could be of use but we were not able to identify by the existing documentation any one that could attend our needs.
We also didn't find any topic in this forum about it.
If possible please give us some examples of use.
Version: Oracle BPM 11gHi,
In the SOA Suite 11g you can use the Java API together with Composite Sensor to achieve these behavior:
1. First, create a composite sensor in the operation that create the process composite instance, initializing the sensor with the business information that identifies the process uniquely. This composite sensor can be used to search for the composite instance either on EM or via API. For more information about how to create Composite Sensor, see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/integration.1111/e10224/sca_compsensors.htm#insertedID0
2. Using the Java API (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/apirefs.1111/e10659/toc.htm), search for the composite instance by the Composite Sensor, as explained at: http://blogs.oracle.com/soabpm/2009/08/soa_suite_11g_-apipart_3_-_f.html. With a reference to the composite instance, you can check its internal components states.
The following libs must be imported in your java project:
- <middleware_home>/oracle_common/modules/oracle.fabriccommon_11.1.1/fabric-common.jar
- <middleware_home>/oracle_common/soa/modules/oracle.soa.mgmt_11.1.1/soa-infra-mgmt.jar
- <middleware_home>/wlserver_10.3/server/lib/weblogic.jar
- <middleware_home>/oss_11gr1/soa/modules/oracle.soa.fabric_11.1.1/oracle-soa-client-api.jar
- <middleware_home>/oracle_common/webservices/wsclient_extended.jar
I hope this can help.

Cancel process instance CE 7.2
Hi,
it is not possible to cancel some of the process instances shown in NWA->manage processes.
If I try there is an error and the default trace shows the following:

I start a process instance programmatically through a web service call, passing a couple of parameters to the starting instance. But then, when the last activity is completed and the end event is reached, there is a failure. As a consequence, the instance is not ended. The failure is the following:

Livio.Hi Oliver,
thank you for your kind reply.
The stack trace I posted is all what is available from the place where I got it (Operation Management>Processes and tasks>Manage processes).
But looking in the general log, I found much more trace information!! At the very end I found the following:
Caused by: com.sap.glx.core.kernel.api.TransitionException: Cannot instantiate abstract SDO type commonj.sdo:DataObject.
at com.sap.glx.core.internaladapter.typeregistry.TypeRegistryImpl.instantiateSDO(TypeRegistryImpl.java:113)

Hope this is helpful.

How to Terminate the BPM Process instance
Hi,
If I have an instance of bpm process which fault at the database service task, I want to manually terminate or suspend it. I tried to do it in the workspace as an bpm administrator, however, since the instance pass the human task already, so that i can't suspend the instance. On the enterprise manager console, I don't see any way to terminate one instance. Please advise and it is so important and urgent for me, since our bpm project already on prodction, we have to fix it as soon as possible. Thanks in advanceI'm thinking you're asking what you can do with an instance that has an uncaught exception and not how to have modeled it so they can be properly handled. If you're not catching the exception, in any of the 7 techniques listed below - you're kind of stuck.
If you have a service task and you'd like to handle the exception (manually or other), you have the choices listed below. If you are using none of these, then you're allowing the BPMN engine to handle the exception and about all you can do is to delete the instance in Enterprise Manager.
1) You could add a catch error event to the boundary of the Service task and have that event designated to handle the exception thrown. From the boundary event, you might have a sequence flow to an Interactive activity that lets you hande the exception. Once handled, the instance can continue on with the process.
2) You could add an event subprocess in the same process as the Service activity that has a start error event and have that event designated to handle the exception thrown. From the event subprocess, you might have a sequence flow to an Interactive activity that lets you hande the exception. The difference between this scenario and the first is that the instance in the process has to terminate in the end event in the event subprocess.
3) If your process is invoked as an embedded subprocess, you could add a boundary event (1 above) or catch it in an event subprocess (2 above).
4) If your process is a reusable process invoked from a parent process using a Call activity, if the exception isn't caught inside the called subprocess you could add a boundary event to the Call activity in the parent process. This is similiar to 1 above and you'd need a sequence flow comingin out of the boundary catch error event on the Call activity to go somewhere in the process to handle the exception.
5) If your process is a reusable process invoked from a parent process using a Call activity, if the exception isn't caught inside the called subprocess and it is not caught by a boundary error event on the parent's call activity then you could add an event subprocess in the parent process that has a start error event and have that event designated to handle the exception thrown inside the child process.
6) There is a way to handle exceptions thrown inside a peer process but I'm guessing that might be too much for this post.
7) You can handle exceptions using a Policy outside of the processes. Rather than using the above to handle exceptions, you could use policy based exception handling where you give the policy the different types of faults you want to catch and if you want to retry, let it be handled by someone in Enterprise Manager and if you just want to abort the instance.
If the exception is not caught, then you're in the scenario you're in now and the BPMN engine is where it is unfortunately caught. Although you can see it, it is a non-recoverable exception and about all you can do is delete the instance in Enterprise Manager.
Hope this helps,
Dan
