Test Mix in Load Testing VS 2013

Hi Team,
I am bit confused with below options in Test Mix. Can you please tell me the difference of these options and some real time use cases on when to use which option. Thanks for your help
Based on the total number of tests:
Based on the number of virtual users
Based on user pace
Based on sequential test order

Hi kumaranil36,
This is the Official explanations about the Test Mix:
You can specify one of the following test mix model options for your load test scenario:
Based on the total number of tests: Determines which Web performance or unit test is run when a virtual user starts a test iteration. At the end of the load test, the number of times that a particular test was run matches
the assigned test distribution. Use this test mix model when you are basing the test mix on transaction percentages in an IIS log or in production data.
Based on the number of virtual users: Determines the percentage of virtual users who will run a particular Web performance or unit test. At any point in the load test, the number of users who are running a particular
test matches the assigned distribution. Use this test mix model when you are basing the test mix on the percentage of users running a particular test.
Based on user pace: Over the course of the load test, each Web performance test or unit test is run a specified number of times per users, per hour. Use this test mix model when you want virtual users to run test at
a certain pace throughout the load test.
Based on sequential order: Each virtual user runs the Web performance or unit tests in the order that the tests are defined in the scenario. The virtual user continues cycling through the tests in this order until the
load test is complete.
But I think this blog would be better for us to really understand them with the Virtual User Activity Chart  here:

  • Where do I specify the URL to test for my load testing project?

When we create a WebAndLoadTestProject in VS 2013, the only place where I can specify the URL that I actually want to test is by adding a Web Performance test to the project and specifying the URL in the recording tool.
Does this mean that I cannot have a load test without having a web performance test?
Because I've searched a lot and I don't find any other place where I can specify the URL that I want to test.
And all the blogs that are out there also talk about having both the web performance test and the load test together. I never come across a single one that explains having a load test without a web performance test.
So my question is; Can I or can not I have a load test without a web performance test? If I can, then where do I specify the URL that I want to test against ??

A Visual Studio Load Test is a thing that runs other tests, looks after their results and collects some timing data. A load test can run large numbers of other tests to simulate big loads. On its own a load test does not do anything. Load tests are
really good at running Web Performance Tests and collecting their results. Load tests can also run Coded UI tests and unit tests.
The URL used in a Web Test can be derived from a context parameter. The Web Test command "Parameterize Web Servers" can be used to change all the URLs in the requests to context parameters.
Load Tests can also specify context parameters and any values they specify will override the parameter values specified in a Web Test.
    Regards
    Adrian

  • Remove test run from Load Test Manager in Visual Studio Online Load Testing

I have been using the Visual Studio Online Azure load testing for a while now, and I have a number of test runs that I would like to remove.  I am not referring to my local Load Test Results Store (on-premise SQL DB), as I can remove test runs no problem.
I mean, how to remove them from "the cloud" so we can no longer re-download the test results.

    Hi David,
As far as I know, it's not supported for Visual Studio Online to run load tests for solutions hosted on GitHub. You can submit a user voice

  • OpenScript records functional tests, but not load tests on firefox

    Hi everyone
I am recording some test with OpenScript 9.3.1.0, I have no problem recording functional tests with IE or FF, but when i try to record a load test just IE works, firefox opens the window and let me do everything normal, but it don't record anything; i'd try with FF 3.6 and 3.5, i'd run the diagnostig tool but it don't show me anything wrong. I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks

    Hi
When doing load testing OpenScript will change your browsers proxy to point to localhost 7777 as its the port that openscript internal proxy uses to record the navigations, can you check if when recording with FF the proxy settings is FF have changed?
If not can you try to change them manually to point to localhost 7777 you will find the settings in Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Settings.
If the proxy is already set, please check that there is nothing on the No proxy for: box
    Hope this helps

  • Test Mix Distribution

In Vs 2013 load test, we have an option to distribute the % for selected webtests.
    For example:
Let say if we select 1000 consant users and
distribute 50% , 50% between two tests(WebTest1, WebTest2). Then is it 500 users run WT1 test and another 500 user run WT2 tests
Simarly if we specify 50% LAN and 50% 3G, Does is mean 500 users run on LAN and 500 users run on 3G ?
is this the same case with Browser distribution ?
    Please share your thoughts

    Hi kumaranil36,
    >>distribute 50% , 50% between two tests(WebTest1, WebTest2). Then is it 500 users run WT1 test and another 500 user run WT2 tests.
The real issue would be related to how you setting your load test wizard.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/edglas/archive/2009/10/19/using-the-virtual-user-activity-chart-to-understand-the-vs-load-engine.aspx
For example, if your two tests run 1001 times, it means there are v-users who run a test more than one times since just 1000 v-users. So it is hard for us to make sure that 500 v-users run the same tests.
Maybe you could think about use the Test Mix Based on the Number of Virtual Users Starting Tests like this case posted by you:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/8309e05d-d5bd-4dd3-8add-914bcb4c2a73/test-mix-in-load-testing-vs-2013?forum=vstest
    >>Simarly if we specify 50% LAN and 50% 3G, Does is mean 500 users run on LAN and 500 users run on 3G ?
For this issue, I think it is similar to the above suggestions, it would be related to the detailed settings under the load test wizard.
This Distribution is a measure of the probability that virtual user will use a particular network type during a load test run, but the v-user would be related to the Test Mix mode settings or other settings like running settings.
For example, if you just select the "test iterations=100", it means that it just run 100 tests, so not all v-users will run the tests.
    >>is this the same case with Browser distribution ?
The same as the Network Mix.

  • Stress/load Test

Hi all, i am planning to run a load test on a web server, my current plan is to send multiple concurrent requests to the web server, and the target webpage will do "something" to make enormous load on the machine, then i will measure the response time for each thread. My problem is i dont know what kind of "logic" or "algorithm"..etc is suitable to make such load on the machine, can someone advise? Thanks in advance.

Usually, when you do load testing, you want to place the server under a load that is a similar to real production-load as possible.
So you don't want to produce some artificial load that's designed to stress the server (that's a possible approach too, but it's stress testing rather than load testing).
So you simply want to do as many production-like requests to your server as possible (make sure to get a good mix of different requests in there as well and not just focus on a single one).
I suggest using a tool like JMeter for the job. It's not really easy to learn or use, but it's very capable.

  • How can I do the load test for EBS 11i

    Dear Suport
    I start to try OATS.
I have used a Openscript to record the functional test and it works fine for EBS 11i.
However, I cannot directly use the script from Functional Test. Is there have any ways to convert the Functional Testing script to Load Testing script?
Since the fail of using functional script, I create a new Load Testing script in Openscript and record what I do in functional test. However, I got the below error when I record the script.

However, the file, formsRecorder.jar, will be deleted when record the test by openscript. (Antivirus too is disabled during record the script).
Do you have any idea for record the Load Testing script by Openscript?

Try the trial version of HTML Optimizer - it will optimize 50% of your files and may convince you that optimizing is your best chance to get your site to load in IE unless you want to drastically reduce your page file sizes.

  • Load Testing with different users

I have scripts that require certain roles to run. I also have a bank of users all grouped for which scripts they can run.  I have the user names in which I want to run the script under in my db. How do I set the load test to launch the test under an
"instance" of a browser with a specific user (impersonation)?
In other words, I have a script that looks at the next row in the db, gets that user name, launches a browser as that user and runs the load test script selected.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Countrysideflair,
Based on my understanding, you have multiple tests in your load test scenario, the first test may launch a browser with users, and then you expect a way that specific tests will be executed based on the specific user.
If I understand correctly, there is no built-in feature in load test to meet your requirement. My suggestion is that you make a test to launch browser with a specific user and add the test and the specific tests which the user
can run into one load test scenario, then add a new load test scenario, add the test which launch a browser with another specific user and another set of specific tests which this user can run into the second scenario.

  • Application Insights for load testing in VS 2013, Azure Preview or Visual Studio Online?

I'm trying to get some clarification on which version of application insights to use to get performance counters from application insights for my azure cloud service for load and performance testing purposes.
So far, its not be clear what the differences between the two versions are, after deploying first the Azure Preview version, I attempted to set up performance counters using application insights but was shown an error because my visual studio online account
did not have an associated application insights instance.
Is it possible to get performance counters using AI for load testing using the Azure Preview version? If so, how? If not, is that planned as a new feature or will performance counters for VSO cloud based load testing have to be used when support for the
VSO version of application insights is eventually dropped?
    Thanks,
    Luke

Hi Alex, thanks for your response. I do have an Azure account, and have tinkered with AI in Azure Preview. My question was more about what the differences between the VSO and azure preview versions of AI are.
When I initially deployed AI to the azure portal and tried to run load tests from visual studio (cloud load tests, that is) I could not. Its possible I had made a mistake in configuring the azure version of application insights though. Strangely enough,
I actually do still see application insights data in the azure preview portal after I removed the newer AI version and installed AI 1.3.
To clarify my question, is it or will it be possible to run cloud based load tests (using visual studio online or another integrated service) against a azure web role deployed with application insights for azure and get performance counters of the system
under test via AI? To do that, will I also have an application insights application in the visual studio online account (similar to how I do now with the VSO version of AI), because that seems to be a requirement to load performance counters from application
    insights within visual studio.
Thanks and sorry if I misunderstood your answer.

And in Debug tag I am getting the following errors:
    *"<disconnected>org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.Main at localhost:59115"*
I am working with OATS on company network and also I am using the correct proxy setting(confirmed). When i tried recording a company internal web application(No Proxy Required) its still giving same proxy errors.
Error results are always changeing when I change my Port No. for proxy setting (Default Port No for my network is 8080).
For port No 8080 following error is displayed result tab:
*"Failed     HTTP response code: 407 Proxy Authentication Required ( Access is denied. )      "*
For port no 7777 & 443 following error is displayed in the result tab: (Have changed the proxy server address to "xyz"):
*Failed     The attempt to connect to the server xyzproxy.xyz.com on port 7777 failed.*
*Comparable WinInet error code: Error 12029: ERROR_INTERNET_CANNOT_CONNECT. Caused by: java.net.ConnectException occurred. Error Message:Connection timed out: connect*
I have just disabled the cookies from my script, no other changes have been made(no parametrization and no correlation as of now).
I have tried everything with port numbers and also with Playback settings in openscript preference for proxy, tried to playback the script with proxy, without proxy for both the type of applications, company internal and external but still the same errors.
Anyone please suggest me a solution to this problem.
    Thanks,
    Abhi.

    Hi,
I think your password is encrypted. Try replace password "a99fad1866af01d9375627d5d08d7f1c11ed4d3f6d5d2372d40908884a15b8e6" with your password.
    Or Get output of obfuscate("your password") and replace "a99fad1866af01d9375627d5d08d7f1c11ed4d3f6d5d2372d40908884a15b8e6" with {{@deobfuscate( output of obfuscate("your password") )}}

  • After load test is completed, "90% Page Time", "95% Page Time" columns appear blank and "99% Page Time" column is not available.

    Hi,
I am using visual studio 2013. After running a load test on my application, I need to view the "90% Page Time", "95% Page Time" and "99% Page Time" percentile data in tabular results view. But since I have started
using visual studio 2013, these columns appear blank after load test execution is completed. Is there a specific configuration change is required to view data from these columns ?
Please refer attached screen shot -
    Help much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rahul S.

    Hi Rahul S,
To collect the data, in the Load Test Editor, under the Run Settings node, select the run setting node to change. In the
Properties window, for the Timing Details Storage property, select
    All Individual Details.
    Best Regards,
    Jack

  • Error importing result file from Visual Studio Online load test - Incorrect Syntax near ')'

We are seeing the exact same issue as reported in:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/4a338992-1a46-47ae-9f13-10a53a6264b5/error-downloading-load-test-report-from-visual-studio-service-load-test-incorrect-syntax-near?forum=TFService#cb43383b-c60d-4dcc-a353-352ac6908b35
When clicking on the "Download report" after running a load test using Visual Studio Online an error occurs.  The download completes, but the import fails at 15% with the following:
This is happening for 2 different users on 2 different systems.
Any assistance in resolving this would be greatly appreciated!
Let me know if additional information is needed.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
We are researching your issue. Please clarify my question with detailed information:
    1. Do you get the error in your first post when you click ‘Download report’ after you run load test from
    Visual Studio 2013 on
    team foundation service?
2 You said that ‘I am trying to import the test results into a Visual Studio 2012 (Update 3) on-prem instance’, what and where is
your load test result repository? A SQL Server database or the default database:LoadTest2010 in SQL Express on the same machine with Visual Studio 2013?
3 Whether you specify the load test result repository under Load Test->Manage Test Controller?
    4. What error do you get? Please provide us more detailed information about the error message or share us with a screenshot.
5 Whether you can run the load test successfully locally and get the load test result with the same load test result database?
6 You said that your co-worker can work fine. Please check whether your account has enough permissions for load test result database and download load test result from TFS to load test result database based on the account
    permission of your co-work.

  • Error when i execute a Load Test

    Hello,
I have create a webtest that calls multiple WebTests (Initialize, Login, Script1, Script2) & have this added to my Load test. But when I am trying to execute my load test I get the following error:
Also, when I edit the test mix I see that the test has a RED icon next to it saying "Test "xxx" cannot be run. Please see 'Non-Runnable' test property for more details."
I have added the "IncludeDeclarativeWebTest" of all the multiple webtests that I am calling.
I am not able to understand what wrong I am doing.
    Any help, appreciated!
    Thanks! Vish

    Hi Vish,
    Thanks for your friendly response.
Could you share me a screen shot about the web tests editor? Please also share me a screen shot about all web tests in Solution explorer window.
    >>one or more of the tests (directly or indirectly) included in this run could not be found.
Based on the error messages, it seems that one test couldn't be found. One idea is that you could try to create different web tests, and then check it again in load test.
For example, your web test includes 4 web tests as the dependents, you could just add one web test as the dependent, and then add two or three, check it again. At least, we could know that whether it is related to the specific one(a web
    test).

    Jack
