TestStand Process Hangs on Wait Step

From time to time we have experienced TestStand hanging on a wait step configured for a constant time period (e.g.. 0.2 seconds).  The execution will enter the wait step but never return from it, hanging the execution thread indefinitely.  The only way to clear this is to break the execution, then terminate, killing all threads and restart TestStand.  We all using TestStand 2010 SP1 running on Windows XP but have seen this issue on previous versions of TestStand (4.2 and 4.0).  Most of the time we execute these sequences via a .NET operator interface based on the Fully featured example shipped with TestStand, but I do not believe this is an Operator Interface issue, as it only occurs when executing wait steps. Memory and CPU usage look normal to me at the time of the lock up and we have experience this on multiple PC's.  Its just like TestStand enters a wait process but loses the plot and never returns.
Has anyone else experienced this sort of issue, or have any ideas on what may be causing it?
Regards,
David

We are still seeing this issue although we had experienced it in Teststand 4.2 (but not earlier versions of TestStand - I have been using TestStand since the days of TestStand 2).  There are no post step call-backs or post action steps of any kind.  Almost all of our sequences run in single threads. The issue is as far as I can see a lock-up on a simple wait step configured for a time period. The problem is that it occurs so intermittently it is difficult to pin down.  For instance we are running nine automated RF test stations, executing tests for up to 4 days at a time.  There can be a lot of wait executions over this period of time, as we have to wait for the product we are testing to cool to within a reference temperature window.  On average we may see one lock-up in a month, but when it occurs it can kill a 3 to 4 day test requiring it to be restarted - very frustrating for the users.
We do execute via a run-time operator interface based on the NI example with a few modifications.  However, we have never had any problems running this, and as it is the wait step causing problems I cannot think it is just caused by the operator interface.

  • Wait step in BPM stops the process permanently

    Hi all.
I have a BPM with a Wait Step inside. When the process reaches the wait step the process gets locked permanently.
I execute TCODE SM12, remove the lock for the process and the process finishes without errors.
Why does the BPM hangs with the wait step? Could anybody help me with this issue.
    Thanks a lot,
    Gari.

    Hi Gökhan.
I'm using SP12. The Self-test about BPE in RWB reports error for "Schedule Background Job for Packaging" and "Schedule Background Job for Reorganization". Details for the error say "Background job for packaging is not required".
    Thanks,
    Gari.

  • RWB status 'delivering' and SQL process hangs

I am sending an IDOC to SQL Server thro XI using JDBC adapter. I am triggering a stored procedure to update SQL tables. The RWB status says 'delivering', sxmb_moni says 'successful' and all the steps are success in audit log. The status 'delivering' is not changing to sucessful.
When i look at SQL-server side, the process is in sleeping mode. I have verified the stored procedure and it was executed sucessfully. After the COMMIT TRAN, RETURN(0) statments, the process is going to 'sleeping' mode. The @@trancount is 2. If I double click the process, the sql statement is 'IF @@TRANCOUNT > 0 COMMIT TRAN'. This process hangs at this step and it is not accepting the next message. If I kill the process, the stored procedure is executed once and its going to sleep mode and not returning the status to XI to make the flow complete or to change the status to successful.
    Thanks.

    HI Shankar ,
Its seems that there might be some problem in your srored procedure.Did u tried to use some other stored procedure.I assume that you have uploaded the right version of driver for SQL server you are using.Remember JDBC adapter is vendor and version dependent.
You can also look at the JDBC : FAQ at service market place.

  • Wait step in BPM hangs!

    Hello,
I am using a wait step in a BPM. Type is "Wait specified time period". The period is 2 minutes.
I can see from process monitoring that my BPM reaches the above step. And then it just hangs !!!!
Time goes by but nothing happens. The BPM never! goes to the next step.
I cannot understand it. Such a simple step is causing me great pain!!!!
Anynone outhere with similar experience ???
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I know this question is inactive, but I had the same problem, and the proposed solution isn't correct. The problem came after upgrading to SP17- What had changed?
Anyways, I checked the workflow customizing (trx swf_xi_customizing) and all were checked, green and good. Finally, after lots of testing and reactivating for no good, I tried executing the checked "Schedule Background Job for Missed Deadlines" function in the workflow customizing again, and behold: the scheduled job had been rescheduled after the upgrade to start 6 months into the future!? Why? No idea, but after re-scheduling, all wait step are executed nicely.
Hope this will be helpful to some other frustrated BPM administrator someday. Regards,
    Emil

  • Hangs on Waiting for UDev uevents to be processed

On startup it hangs on "Waiting for UDev uevents to be processed". Sometimes an extra row saying "[    6.423351] firewire_ohci: Failed to set Link Power Status" is shown, and sometimes the screen goes all black before it hang.
Last time I was logged in I made some upgrades (pacman -Syu), so I guess that could have caused this problem but I'm not sure how to fix it.
    What should I do?

This is most probably a kernel bug. More specifically, a problem in a module that is being loaded on boot by udev. You can boot into your system by appending "init=/bin/bash" to your kernel commandline (in GRUB). First of all I'd uninstall any third-party (unsupported) kernel modules that you might have installed. If that does not work I'd revert to a previous kernel version and file a bug.

    Hi Shah,
I have gone through thread   Wait step in BPM hangs! .when i am trying to reschedule the Schedule Background Job for Missed Deadlines it is asking for change request. If i provide the change request,is it cause for any changes in other functionality of XI.

  • Event triggerred before Wait step

What can we do when the event is triggerred before the wait step? Does anyone know about the concept of parked events?
Iam using f.m swe_event_create, can we use the start_with_delay option or some other option..
I would like to have some delay before the second event is raised. but at the same time as this would be a online program, the user should not feel the delay..
or the Wait step should be modified to pick up already created events..(i think this is called parked events).
    CALL FUNCTION 'SWE_EVENT_CREATE'
    EXPORTING
    *objtype =
    *objkey =
    *event =
    CREATOR = ' '
    TAKE_WORKITEM_REQUESTER = ' '
    START_WITH_DELAY = ' '
    START_RECFB_SYNCHRON = ' '
    NO_COMMIT_FOR_QUEUE = ' '
    DEBUG_FLAG = ' '
    NO_LOGGING = ' '
    IDENT =
    IMPORTING

Hi Karri, thanks for the reply ..There is a presentation on parked events if you search the wiki and blogs on this site, you will find it but thats the only thing i have seen about it and its not really helpful.
the problem is.. 2 Inbound idocs are created both at the same time one raises a event for workflow.. one raises a event for Wait step in the same workflow ..
The 2 inbound F.Ms which raise the events, can error sometimes or the workflow can create a workitem before the Wait step and hang in there till its processed..(its unpredictable which one will trigger first)
If the second event(for Wait step) is raised first and the workflow processing has not yet reached the Wait step, the workflow waits for the event to be raised(although the event is already there)
Do you know of some way we can keep reprocessing until the Event receiver is found? (may be in a Raise event workflow step or in a Function Module)

  • Reading the value of the "WaitForTarget" attribute of the Wait step

I am trying to access the  "Step.WaitForTarget" attribute for the Wait step but can't find the correct syntax to use in an expression or the correct API calls to use in an action step.  I intend to use this in an expression as I am looking for a specific value.
I have a object reference to the step that I am testing  (Locals.StepRef) and from that I have no issues reading the standard attributes like name, step type, preconditions, etc...
How do we access the special additional properties of the wait step ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hey 4watt,
One easy way to do this is to access the step reference as a PropertyObject and use GetValNumber to obtain the value. For example:
    Locals.StepRef.AsPropertyObject.GetValNumber("WaitForTarget",0)
I tested this out and it does correctly return the value of WaitForTarget. Let us know if you need any more assistance!

  • Using WAIT step in Sync/Async Bridge

I am using a sync/async bridge and placed a 1 minute wait step in between my async send and async reply.  When I test my process, the async reply comes in but then my 1 minute wait eventually times out and gives me an error.  Can someone guide me in fixing this BPM design (which steps to add and how)?
    http://webpages.charter.net/kpwendel/bpm_with_wait.jpg
I would like it to stop waiting once the async reply comes in and not timeout.  If the 1 minute mark comes and a reply never came in, it would also be nice to send back an error message.
    Thanks!

I pulled my WAIT task and had this scenario working a week ago.  I have not made any changes, but now my inbound replies to close the BPM and link up to the request are not "linking".  The request is eventually timing out even though the reply with a good correlation id comes in successfully.  Any suggestions?
UPDATE:  I went through my objects in the IB:Config and resaved/activated them and now it is working.  Don't know what messed them up in the first place.

  • BPM(with wait step) calling another BPM

    Hello,
I have this scenario whereby i need to call a BPM from another BPM process. Call it BPM1 and BPM2. BPM1 will have a Sync-Send-step to call BPM2.
The following is what i have setup:-
    Working OKAY:-
BPM1 (receive from file, send syn step to BPM2) --> BPM2(receive step (Open S/A Brige) from BPM1, send step (Close S/A Bridge))
But if i put an wait step (for 1 minute, see below) before the send syn step in BPM1, i will have problem and the queue in BPM1 show "STOP" and the BPM2 queue show "RETRY".
    Problem:-
BPM1 (receive from file, wait step, send syn step to BPM2) --> BPM2(receive step (Open S/A Brige) from BPM1, send step (Close S/A Bridge))
Yes, the RETRY will work but the problem is, my BPM1 has already timeout and has ERROR (see from SWWL) and BPM2 has exceptional error in the Close A/S Bridge send step (because it can't send back to BPM1).
Anyone has any idea how to resolve this? and hopefully the above is clear enough to discribe the problem that i'm facing now.
    Any suggestions are welcome, scott.

  • BPM Wait step!

    Friends,
I have BPM which has the FOR-EACH Block in it. After the first message processed I have to wait for atleast 5 seconds to process the next message in FOR-EACH Block. The default BPM wait step has minimum of 1 Minute. Is there any other way we can make to wait for x seconds?
    Please let me know!

  • PS2013 - When creating a new instance of Project Server hangs in 'Waiting for resources' status

    Hi,
I have one instance of Project Server 2013 fully operational and I tried to duplicate the instance to make some tests. As I know the issue of using the same Content Database of Project Server in the same Server Farm, I used the powershell  backup/restore/dismount
and mount the content database to change the site IDs to avoid index duplication. The Project server database was a regular SQL backup and restore in another database.
I created a new Web App in the port 90 as show below.
Then I included the Content database of Project Server as separated DB from SharePoint for this new SharePoint -acme90 and I tried to create the new instance. The creation hanged in "Waiting for Resources" status.
To make another check excluding the reuse of the SharePoint-80 I tried to create another instance both in the SharePoint-80 where is the working instance and in the SharePoint-90, everything default and again they all hanged in Waiting for Resource.
If I try to create the instance using PowerShell I got the following error:
    PS C:\Users\epm_setup> Mount-SPProjectWebInstance -DatabaseName Test_EPM -SiteCo
    llection http://acme02/epm -Lcid 1046

All SharePoint and Project Server services are running, all App Pools and sites are started at the IIS. I could not find a hanging timer job.
I cannot stop the hanged process or dismount the instances using Powershell since no instance created.
How should I solve the hanging status of creation of the instance? As they are in Hyper-V I can go back using one snapshot.
    Thank you.
Best regards, Ricardo Segawa - Segawas Projetos / Microsoft Partner

    Hi Eric,
Thank your for your interest in this case.
I checked for running and crashed PWA jobs and deleted all of them just after restoring the snapshot and tried to create the new instance in the new web app in port 90 (besides the existing and working instance in port 80), but again it hanged in "waiting
for resources". There is not any timer job hanging, no error in event viewer or in log. So the error is well before working with cloned dbs.
Answering your questiion, I am working all on 2013. My intention is backup one instance of the port 80 and copy to the instance of port 90, changing of course the url and the index of the content db of SharePoint. The process I used was:
Create a new web app in port 90, creating a new SharePoint_Content_2 on a
    http://server:90 site.
Created the top level site called Portal using the Team Site template.
Create a new content db for new instance of Project Server named EPM_Content_2 using Central Admin.
Backup content db from port 80 instance of Project Server and restore to this EPM_content_2 using PowerShell cmd.
Dismounted and mounted this Project Server content db to create new index for existing sites to avoid index conflicts.
Backup the Project Server DB from port 80 using SQL backup and restored as ProjectWebApp2 db for port 90 instance.
Tried to create a new instance of Project Server
http://server:90/pwa on web app of port 90 using the ProjectWebApp2 db and using the same app pool of the other instance. But as in the previous case, it hang out in "Waiting for resources".

  • Wait step in quality is waiting for long time

    hi friends
I have transported the workflow to quality. Am using a wait step in my workflow. Its waiting in that step for long time nearly 1 hour still its not cross the step. The workflow works fine in my developement. But in quality its not moving to the next step. i comparted the wait step in quality and developement. In developement wait step in outcomes tab green light is glowing in Actvie mode. but in quality green light is visible but in blured vision. even i have checked the configuration in swu3 in development and quality. Both have same configuration. What could be the problem that its not crossing the wait step. Plz help me
    Regards
    vijay

    hi Pavan
I havn't used any deadline. Its working fine in development. y in quality its not working. That is my question. Even i have checked in the development wait step from the log i have these 3 steps for histroy
    Wait step created                                No errors
Condition for wait step fulfilled               No errors
    Result Processing                               No errors
    But in quality
    Wait step created                                No errors
Only these step is alone there. its has not yet come to other step. But my condition is fullfilling has i checked from the container elements. Am waiting for more than 3 hours. Still its not come to next step. y what could be the reason.

  • Wait step in ccBPM

    hello everybody,
i have a BPM process in my PI with a fork function and 2 braches.
I would like that second brache wait 5 second before starting .
I tried to use wait step but i see possible values are minutes, hours, days, months, year....
    why no seconds??
Can i set value 0,1 minutes for wait 6 seconds??
    thanks in advance
    alex

    Hi Alex,
    minimum is one minute.
BPM is using a job to trigger a message after a wait step, so it can be in reality 1 min and 59 sec.
But only if you customize that in
SXMB_ADM_BPE / Automatic BPM Customizing / Maintain Runtime Environment /Schedule Background Job for Workflow Deadline Monitoring
    Set interval to 1 minute
    Regard,
    Udo
