Text and XML

How should I do this??
I have a narration. I need to put markers on every word or group of words and export to an XML file. (It is for a read a long program)
Normally I create a marker  and type out each word. But it would be easier if I could automate part of the process.

Have you tried using outer joins instead of nested tables? I
believe that will work. I will try and get an answer on nested
tables.

  • Installing Oracle TEXT and XML DB Components on New Instance

    I was told this may be the best place to ask my quesion
    I have set up a New Instance or Oracle on a Solaris Unix box that already had Oracle 10g installed.
    The instance was created fine, however I need the Oracle Text Component and XML DB Component installed as well.
    Those are not installed with this instance. They are installed on the other instance on the box that was setup when oracle was first installed.
    How can I add these components to this new instance?
    DBCA was not used when the instance was created. The DBA here does not care for this tool.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    the installation of XMLDB is described in the XML manual: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14259/appaman.htm#sthref2372
    the installation of Text is described on Metalink in document 280713.1.
    A nice document to start is on Metalink, it is document 472937.1. It gives Oracle components and the links how to install the components on different versions of Oracle.

  • How to burst reports in text and XML format using API

    Hi there,
    I need to be able to burst PDF, Excel etc reports and at the same time, generate XML files containing metadata that will accompany the PDF files to their destination. The reason for this, is that the destination requires metadata to class the documents in the content management system.
    My issue is that I just cannot get bursting to XML, text or HTML format right. There is very little documentation available around creating reports in these formats using the API's and perhaps someone who has gotten this right can, once and for all, solve this issue where others can find the solution.
    Alright, here is some sample supporting documentation (For the sake of the question, I have removed the bursting to PDF, Excel etc. formats and I am just focusing on the XML output):
    In my code for bursting, I make use of the following constructor...
    DocumentProcessor dp =
    new DocumentProcessor("ControlFile.xml", "TestData.xml", "temp");
    The ControlFile.xml looks like this...
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xapi:requestset xmlns:xapi="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/xapi">
    _<xapi:request select="/DATA/LIST_BRANCH/BRANCH">
    ___<xapi:delivery>
    ______<xapi:filesystem id="dst" output="C:\${BRANCH_NAME}.xml"/>
    ___</xapi:delivery>
    ___<xapi:document output-type="text" delivery="dst">
    ______<xapi:template type="xsl-fo" location="Template.xsl"></xapi:template>
    ___</xapi:document>
    _</xapi:request>
    </xapi:requestset>
    The data in my TestData.xml looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <DATA>
    ___<LIST_BRANCH>
    ______<BRANCH>
    __________<BRANCH_NAME>BRANCH 1</BRANCH_NAME>
    ______________ OTHER IRRELEVANT DATA
    ______</BRANCH>
    ______<BRANCH>
    __________<BRANCH_NAME>BRANCH 2</BRANCH_NAME>
    ______________ OTHER IRRELEVANT DATA
    ______</BRANCH>
    ___</LIST_BRANCH>
    </DATA>
    In my ControlFile.xml, I reference my XSL file called Template.xsl which should do my transformations into XML. That file looks like:
    <xsl:stylesheet version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
    __<xsl:output method="xml" indent="yes">
    __<xsl:template match="/">
    ____<METADATA>
    _______<BRANCH>
    ___________<xsl:value-of select="BRANCH_NAME"/>
    _______</BRANCH>
    ____</METADATA>
    __</xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    I have tried about forty variations of the ControlFile.xml and Template.xsl and have had no luck. Among the various error messages that the compiler has reported to me, these are the most common:
    [101507_055953158][][EXCEPTION] Error while generating the Document...
    [101507_055953158][][EXCEPTION] org.xml.sax.SAXException: element metadata is not supported yet.
    [101507_061037084][][EXCEPTION] Error while generating the Document...
    [101507_061037094][][EXCEPTION] oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Start of root element expected.
    I have managed in some cases to get the API code to compile, but the outputs are empty 0kb files.
    I have also exported an XSL-FO file from word, but the output is always PDF even with tweaking.
    I have wasted about 9 hours on this problem and it is driving me mad! If anyone has ideas, tips and/or solutions, they would be very welcome.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

  • Offline search engine based on Oracle Text and XML SDK?

    Hi,
    I am pretty new to Oracle Text, so I am not shure if the
    question is correct.
    We have an intranet, with lots of MS Word, PDF and HTML files.
    The site is starting to get out of hand, there is to many
    information distributed all over it.
    We would need a search engine for these files. The front would
    be HTML or XML based on XSQL. The backend, that is the search
    engine would look like this: I would store the HTML, PDF and
    Word files inf the file system and regularly reload them into
    Oracle into BFILE columns. I could user Oracle Text to index the
    content and use XDK to make the searching part for it.
    Is the Oracle Text feasable?
    Every hint would be highly appreciated.

    Is the Oracle Text feasable?You can store HTML, PDF and Word documents in the file system or
    in a database column and make it searchable using Oracle Text.
    You can write a JSP or PSP that executes the SQL statement and
    then displays the result. Take a look at the Indagine sample
    code (Java - it's a little bit old: version 8.1.5) or the "Text
    search with PL/SQL Server Pages" notes. All available from

  • Difference between Oracle Text and XML DB?

    We are currently storing XML's in Oracle text. I understand that XML DB is faster to retrieve XML's based on conditional search within XML.
    Is there a place I could find the difference between these two?

    Text offer xpath like searching, assuming that you don't need to worry about little things like namespaces :). Oracle XML DB offers native XML storage, indexing and searching fully compliant with rellevant XML standards.

    Yes, you can do all of that via Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Import Data, if you have Acrobat.
    If you only have the free Reader then you can still do it, but it requires a script.

  • XML StAX - How to extract text and elements?

    Hello,
    I'm using StAX to parse this XML document (heavily reduced):
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <html>
      <head>
        <title>Foo</title>
      </head>
      <body>
        <p>loading ...</p>
      </body>
    </html>I need to extract the data between the <body> element i.e "<p>loading...</p>". My problem is that I can only find methods that extracts the text and not the elements. Is there an easy way to do this using the XMLStreamReader instance, or do I have to use another class?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply. But does that really mean that I have to create my own method, which will collect both text and elements information in a StringBuffer as I parse through the enclosing element? I just think it is strange that there isn't a convenient method to extract all data (text & elements) between one element.
    Something like this?:
    private void handleBody(XMLStreamReader parser,XMLEventAllocator allocator) throws XMLStreamException {
              StringBuffer body = new StringBuffer();
              while(true){
                   String value = null;
                   parser.next();
                   if (parser.getEventType() == XMLStreamConstants.START_ELEMENT){
                        String name = parser.getLocalName();
                        if (!name.equalsIgnoreCase("body")){
                             StartElement startElement = getXMLEvent(allocator,parser).asStartElement();
                             value = startElement.toString();
                   else if (parser.getEventType() == XMLStreamConstants.END_ELEMENT){
                        String name = parser.getLocalName();
                        if (name.equalsIgnoreCase("body")){
                             break;
                        else{
                             EndElement endElement = getXMLEvent(allocator,parser).asEndElement();
                             value = endElement.toString();
                   else if (parser.hasText()){
                        value = parser.getText();
                   if (value != null){
                        body.append(value);
         }

  • Issue with visibiliy of dynamic text and hyperlinks

    Hi everyone,
    It's been a while since I've build a Flash site and a I'm finding a out a lot has changed.
    I'm building a simple site with some pictures, text and the 5 last posts from Twitter.
    This last one is not working out that well.
    First of all:
    The outputed data from Twitter is displayed into a dynamic text field which is working fine when I test the movie in Flash, but as soon as I upload it to my server the text is not visible.
    Flash already told me that I need to enclose my font in the movie (that's new for me) and I did that using the button in the properties windows.
    But it still won't work.
    I recreated the Twitter reader in a empty document to isolate it from my website during the troubleshooting.
    Here's the AS I'm using:
    var loadXML:XML = new XML();
        loadXML.ignoreWhite = true;
        loadXML.onLoad = processXML;
        loadXML.load("twitter.php"); //used when swf in placed on server
        loadXML.load("");
        function processXML(loaded:Boolean)
            if(loaded)
                var node = this.firstChild;
                tweet_1.text = node.childNodes[0].childNodes[2].firstChild;
                tweet_2.text = node.childNodes[1].childNodes[2].firstChild;
                tweet_3.text = node.childNodes[2].childNodes[2].firstChild;
                tweet_4.text = node.childNodes[3].childNodes[2].firstChild;
                var follower_count = node.childNodes[9].childNodes[11].childNodes[9].firstChild;// Creates variable
                trace(follower_count); //loads variable into output
                follower_count_txt.text = follower_count;// show follower count in text box
            else
                error_txt.text = "Error loading XML file";
                        for (i=0; i<follower_count; i++)
                            _root.attachMovie("tweep_mc", "tweep"+i+"_mc", i);
                            _root["tweep"+i+"_mc"]._x = 150 + random(500);
                            _root["tweep"+i+"_mc"]._y = 150 + random(500);
                            trace(i);
                        trace(i);
        follow_btn.onRelease = function()
            getURL("");
    facebook_btn.onRelease = function()
            getURL("");
    stop();
    Right here you can see the output of it on the server.
    The second issue:
    The items posted to Twitter will simply always contain pictures which Twitter posts as hyperlinks.
    Is there a way to make those hyperlinks function in my dynamic text field?
    Hope you guys can help me out!
    Thanks in advance!!
    Karim

    Ok.. After some resarch I find out the guy who created this made use of the Twitter API.. Since I don't know how to do that and
    can't find straight answers that's not an option for me...
    Althought...
    What I forgot to mention in the first post:
    This is what the beginning of actionscript is actually looking like right now and why it is working offline:
    var loadXML:XML = new XML();
        loadXML.ignoreWhite = true;
        loadXML.onLoad = processXML;
        loadXML.load("http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.xml?screen_name=karimbizid2");
    I'm getting the data direct from the Twitter server.
    This procedure does'nt neceserly need a PHP file to store the XML, right?
    I'm guessing it's just a visual issue why the text isn't showing.

  • Passing parameter to the i18n text from xml view in fiori app

    Hi,
    Could somebody let me know how to pass parameter to get the i18n text inside xml view of a Fiori app.
    For e.g. inside my i18n properties file i have a entry like:
    PEC_ISSUE={0}issues of total{1}
    inside xml i use it like {i18n>PEC_ISSUE}
    but now how do i pass those 2 parameters to this ??
    i know in javascript it works with , (comma) but does not work in xml. Any help...
    Thanks,
    Ashish

    Hi Michele,
    I found it. Below is the example from my coding.
    <Text      text="{parts: [{path: 'i18n>PEC_to'}, {path: 'promoprocsteps>RetailPromotionSalesFromDate_E'},
                                                           {path:'promoprocsteps>RetailPromotionSalesToDate_E'}],
                                                           formatter: 'retail.promn.promotioncockpit.utils.Formatter.formatDatesString'}"  />
    So you have to create a formatter and pass all the strings to the formatter and then do it inside JS.
    In JS you do it in this way:
    i18n.getText(i18String, [newString, string2]);
    i hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Ashish

  • Plain text and attachment in Mail Adapter (Receiver)

    Hello,
    we have to generate a mail in the mail-adapter with a specific text and an attachment.
    The attachment is a document in pdf-format, that is generated inside an adapter-module out of the payload-document.
    An additional text has to be added to the mail for the receiver in plain-text-format, like "Dear customer ... enclosed you will find ...".
    Is it possible to mix plain-text and attachments in the mail adapter? Does anybody know how we can do that?
    Regards,
    Thorsten

    Hi,
    yes you can do it very easily inside the adapter module
    if you're already using the adapter module then
    you can just enhance it a little bit
    you can add the pdf to the attachment section and
    leave dear customer in the standard payload
    you can even make it a little bit more dynamic
    and create a module that will take the input from
    the communication channel config (modules tab) - for example xml tag name in which you will specify
    the dear customer (or any other text) and after this
    the pdf creating can use the xml without this tag...

  • Java framework/toolkit for POJO, database persistence and XML

    Hi all,
    I've been wondering if there's a toolkit or framework for developing Java program (could be standalone Java program, EJBs etc.)
    I surfed around casually and found some but there isn't any detailed description of what and how each framework/toolkit does. So I hope to ask around if you've anything that you have used before and would like to point to me to look further.
    Given the huge number of open source toolkits, libraries and frameworks out there, it can be quite confusing as to which one is more suitable for me. Also with Sun's move into JDO and Java Persistence API, things become more messy and complicated - there isn't any clear leader in this area and things are starting to change with the inclusion of JDO which seems to be the future standard persistence API to use.
    So far, I've only worked with Hibernate for database persistence before. So I'm wondering if there're other options such as Hibernate with XDoclet, Castor and Spring framework etc. that can easily transform Plain Old Java Objects (POJO) -- hopefully using Java Reflection w/o using mapping XML files like in Hibernate -- into SQL for database persistence and XML text data and vice-versa. The current problem is that I've been spending tons of time writing code to transform data in Java objects into XML (using my own format) and also doing mapping files for Hibernate.
    I am hoping for something simple like:
    Object o = new Object();
    o.setProperty = "something";
    String xml = o.toXML(); // Convert object to XML text.
    o.save(); // Save to database.
    // The reverse: Parse XML into object and load from database
    Object o = new Object();
    o.fromXML(xml);
    o.load();
    // Properties should be initialized from database or XML.
    Anything similar to this out there?

    Hi,
    Just to share what I've found after surfing a bit more on this issue to promote more discussion on this area.
    For mapping of Java objects to XML, we can try looking more at Castor and JAXB.
    For database persistence to/from Java objects, look at Hibernate and JDO.
    There is this Hydrate project (hydrate.sourceforge.net) that I do not know where it fits in still. But it is supposed to do data transformation and mapping between Java objects, XML and database representation.
    Fyi.

  • How to mix HTML and XML??

    Hi guys,
    I want to stream some xml content to the browser from a servlet by setting the content-type as 'text/xml' and let IE browser take care of the parsing & formatting. It is important for me to show the formatted (tree structure) xml content in the browser. But I also need to show a text heading in the browser...Something like this ::
    Application XML Message ---> header text
    <xml>
    <id>.....
    <InvoiceDate>.....
    </xml>
    I know that the content has to be 'text/html' for the header text , and text/xml to let IE do automatic formatting of the xml data...How can I mix the contents? I don't want to format the xml file programattically or by using XSLT..Is it possible?
    Thanks guys

    I think it's possible; just create a page containing the header you want to display and an iFrame with the URL set to the address of the service that builds the XML. In fact you'll make two requests to server: one for the page containing the fancy header + the iFrame and one for the XML itself. Main page has text/html content and the contained iFrame will have text/xml content:
    More artistically:
    The header of the message
    The iFrame pointing to the URL that
    generates the XML.
    Be sure to use appropriate HTML styles so the iFrame border will not get displayed.

  • Using resourceDescription in SUBSCRIPTIONBUNDLED_Email.xsl and xml's.

    Hello all,
    We are trying to use the Primitive Template "resourceDescription" (as described in "Customizing Notifications"-pdf) in the SUBSCRIPTIONBUNDLED_EMAIL.xsl and SUBSCRIPTIONBUNDLED_en.xml.
    Could anyone urgently let me know if it's possible to use this Primitive Template in the xsl and xml mentioned?
    It looks like the "resourceDescription" is not being passed on to the bundlednotificationdata-section in the xml?
    Any other suggestion in how to get the "resourceDescription" available in Daily Summary Subscription emails?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim.

    Hello Alan,
    Yes; as far as I know the only way to get your changes to any of the email notification xml files visible is by restarting the server
    The notification email xsl I'm working on is the one for the daily notifications (subscriptionbundled_email.xsl).
    My problem is that it seems that the resourceDescription is not being passed on by the java code that is populating the section in the xml file containg the resource information...
    Unfortunately no confirmation about this yet (raised OSS with SAP as well).
    I'm expecting this resourceDescription to contain the text that you can fill in using standard KM in the Description field of a resource.
    I do wonder how/where your users populate the subject and description fields? Standard SAP KM or custom app?
    Cheers,
    Tim.
