TEXT_IO in forms

Hi
I am using TEXT_IO in Forms 6i client/server.
1. I get the location of a particular directory by using: tool_env.getvar('TEMP', v_tmp_file_loc);
This returns C:\DOCUME~1\TEST~1.TST\LOCALS~1\Temp into variable v_tmp_file_loc
3. Then concatenate this to a .dat file and assign this to a field in the form: *:p_item:= v_tmp_file_loc||'\testfile.dat'*
4. Then open the file: out_file := text_io.fopen(:p_item, 'w');
5. Insert line into the file: text_io.put_line(out_file, 'This is a test');
6. and then close the file: text_io.fclose(out_file);
When this is run, no file is created in the TEMP directory.
However, when I change the directory to 'C:\' (hardcoded) and not 'C:\DOCUME~1\TEST~1.TST\LOCALS~1\Temp' , the file is written out to the 'C:\' directory.
How do I get the file written out to C:\DOCUME~1\TEST~1.TST\LOCALS~1\Temp.
Thanks

Hi!
May try:
tool_env.getvar( 'TEMP', :p_item );Then copy the value from :p_item, open the windows explorer,
paste the value into the address field and try to change to that folder.
Are you able to change to the folder?

    How to write data to a file without leaving any blank lines in the file? How to check if the cursor is placed in the corner of a notepad file using LAB VIEW?
    If you write data to a file, simply don't include any blank lines. We cannot give more specific advice unless you are telling us how you are writing. Are you writing to a new file or appending to an existing file. If the blank lines already exist, you need to read the entire file, remove the undesired lines from the string, and write the data back.
    Notepad files don't have any "corners". Please describe what you are trying to do.
    What is "LAB VIEW"?

  • Creation of CSV file on client machine with data from forms

    Hi,
    My requirement is to generate a CSV file(or .XLS) on the client machine ie local drive with the details shown in a form.
    Oracle version -
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.1.0.7.0 - Production
    CORE 11.1.0.7.0 Production
    TNS for Solaris: Version 11.1.0.7.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 11.1.0.7.0 - Production.
    I have searched the web for last couple of days and got to know that TEXT_IO is to be used to generate files on client machine. However, when I tried TEXT_IO, it was not able to generate the file on client rather it was able to generate on database server. After further browsing on this, there was a link which said that we need to use CLIENT_TEXT_IO to generate file on client side. For this, i was required to subclass the webutil.pll which i did and corrected the code to use CLIENT_TEXT_IO. The form was unable to compile and was not able to find "webutil_core" package.
    I am very confused with the disparity in the information available on the web as in what to use to generate a file on client side. If anyone has use it in the past, can he/she please detail what to use to get things sorted.
    Thanks,
    R

    So, what is your FORMS version. This is more important than your database version.
    My requirement is to generate a CSV file(or .XLS) on the client machine ie local drive with the details shown in a form. Depending on your Forms version, you would use TEXT_IO (if Forms 6i running in Client/Server mode) or WebUtil (if Forms 9i or higher).
    I'm going to guess that you are at least using Oracle Forms 9i since you stated that your attempt at using TEXT_IO produced a file on the DB server.
    There is more to using WebUtil than just attaching the WEBUTIL.PLL. If you had performed a simple search of the Forms Help System would have found numerous WebUtil topics to include: Introduction to WebUtil, Configuring WebUtil, Using WebUtil in Your Applications and the WebUtil User's Guide. If you have Oracle Forms release 10g or higher, WebUtil is included when you installed Forms, however, you do need to configure your installation to use WebUtil and you must download the Java COM Bridge (jacob.jar) from Source Forge. Take a look at the Configuring WebUtil Forms Help topic to find out which version of the Java COM Bridge you will need to download.
    After you have successfully configured WebUtil, take a look at the Using WebUtil in Your Applications topic to find out how to implement WebUtil in a form.
    Searching the Internet for answers is great, but don't forget the look at the Forms Help System because the majority of your questions can be answered there. :)
    Lastly, configuration of WebUtil is primarily done on your Application Server (AS). However, if you plan to perform preliminary runtime testing by running your Form from the Forms Builder, then you will configure your local runtime to support WebUtil as well as configure your AS. The steps are exactly the same. A common mis-step is to skip a step during the configuration because you don't think the step applies. Take a look at the Forms Help Runtime Setup Checklist topic for a list of step you need to complete in order to enable WebUtil.
    Hope this helps,

  • I need the code to delete record in the database not in the form???

    I need the code to delete record in the database not in the form...
    because when i execute a form always insert the datas in the data base but i want insert value on a text file and delete in the data base the record whith this value of text file.

    thank, javier

    Well, I fail to understand why you want to complicate easy things, but anyway you can do that by using TEXT_IO within Forms to create text file (see Forms builder help), and UTL_FILE package to read it within Pl/Sql : you could create a stored procedure, and call it from Forms passing the file name as parameter. See UTL_FILE documentation

  • Store Word Document Text in Database using form

    Hai,

    file line by line in oracle database using form.
    it there anyway to achieve my object.
    thanx,
    can i create form to read word file with sound..

    You can directly store the Word Document itself into the Database using BFILE concept.
    If you want to store line by line please code your program with TEXT_IO package (Forms)
    Please give your mail Id for the example to be posted.

  • Reading Data using TEXT_IO

    Dear all
    Using TEXT_IO in forms 10G.
    Is there any way to read the last line 1st from a text file ?
    Or
    Is there any way to read the line 1st which is starting from 9 ?
    My file format is :

    No. There is no method to move the pointer in the file. If you want to get the nth line, you have to use the Get_Line() method n times.

  • Generate xml file

    Hi all!
    Please advice on this:

    I can do this only with text_io from forms, but it takes a lot of time writting 32767 characters at a time.
    Is there any faster way?

    Instead of Text_Io Use Forms Provided Web_Util.

    many thanks to all!

    its easier if i would let them convert it first to csv format how shall i do it?Yes, it's easier. You can use Sql*Loader with that (best way), or, since we are on Forms forum, you could also use TEXT_IO from Forms (not very efficient).

    Thanks, Ricardo.

    you can do the following:
    host('tasklist > C:\temp\tasklist.txt');
    above command should redirect a list of running taks
    to the file "tasklist.txt".
    then use forms' TEXT_IO(see forms HELP) feature to
    find for any running process.

  • TEXT_IO.FOPEN not working on web deployed app FORMS 6i

    Hi all
    I have coded parsing file by using TEXT_IO.GET_LINE but it seems that my file even can't be opened.
    declare
    file1 text_io.file_type;
    filename1 varchar(256);
    linebuf varchar2(100);
    begin

    Text_IO.Get_Line(file1, linebuf);
    if linebuf!='blablablablabla' then msg('line is OK!');
    else msg('Line is wrong!');
    end if;
    TEXT_IO.FCLOSE(file1);
    end;
    On local machine when i enter into :CSV.CSV_PATH "C:\details.txt" the file gets loaded because it gets processing, I can see messages.
    When I upload form onto remote web-deployed app server, I enter into path "D:\details.txt" (I cannot write on C:, the files are the same) nothing happens. Does it mean text_io won't work on Fomrs6i web-deployed? How can I investigate this issue.
    Thanks in advance
    Tome

    With Forms Server deployments. TEXT_IO writes the file on the Forms server not the local PC as it did in client-server mode.
    Here are some workarounds
    1) Download the WEBUTIL add-on from Oracle and use its TEXT_IO package to write to the local file.
    WebUtil is an essential add-on loaded with goodies such as a file browse dialog for local files. Its easy to use and is designed to be compatible with other oracle routines like TEXT_IO.
    Kudos to Duncan Mills at Oracle for this top add-on - dont leave home without it.
    www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/webutil/webutil.htm2) Use the original TEXT_IO (as you are now) to write to a file on the Forms Sever , then display it in a browser window using WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT
    3) I remember seeing some some old Java scripts on OTN to write to local PC.
    MY APOLOGIES for #3. Most forum posts can be solved with that little gem of an answer. "My sink is blocked" ... "yeah I saw some java code to fix that"

  • How to issue print command from report/form server to client printer on web

    1) We have a client server application which is to be deployed on the web environment. The reports generated in our application are having a destination type as File. These reports are printed after applying some print format (escape sequences) which are passed on to the printer programmatically at runtime while printing.
    Now when this application is shifted on to the Application server (Forms server & Reports Server )in web environment ,the report outputs would be generated in the application server as against the client in client server environment as the report server is on the application server.
    Now while printing/accessing the report the output file will not be available to the client unless it is pushed on to the client side from the server . I am able to see reports in pdf/html output but in this case layout of my reports gets changed and I dont want to change my layouts or reformat my report layouts.
    How do I redirect the report output from the application server on to the client within the D2k context and then execute print commands?
    Note: In this case we want to use both DMT and Laser printing. Also note that we use escape sequences to adjust reports in desired printing papers.
    2) We have second set of reports which we call as document because these are printed after capturing data from 'Form' using text_io utility (please note that for these documents we are not using any Report 6i functionality)and we print it from file using printing mechanism as mentioned above. These are working well in client server application. We adopted this methodology for getting better performance (in terms of speed as database server and network traffic is not involved) of printing. But now we are converting our application for web, we are finding it difficult how to capture Form's data from browser to client's machine and then executing printing commands which are stored in our application liabrary.
    If you help me out by giving some suggestions, I shall be grateful to you.

    Hello
    I wonder if you ever solved this problem.
    I have a very similar problem with Photoshop CS5 on Mac OSX 10.6 + HP Photosmart C7180.
    If I choose "Photoshop Manages Colors" the results are lousy.
    If I choose "Printer Manages Colors" the results are OK. not necessarily great.
    I believe I have all the correct settings after going through books and web advice (and wasted a lot of paper and ink).
    As far as I can see, "ColorSync" is the internal Mac management which is the only option available with "Photoshop Manages Colors" and "Vendor Matching" appears to mean the printer vendor (ie HP) will provide the matching. Either can be selected if "Printer Manages Colors" is used. It seems the type of paper can be set in three different places. if That's all a bit academic as the results are poor regardless.
    My wife suggests I buy a new printer - Epson's looking good.
    Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

  • Sending data to EXCEL from Oracle Forms 6.0 URGENT!!!!!

    Dear all,
    I have a problem to which I hope to get a solution from anyone
    out there...
    The problem is as follows:
    I have a form that contains some data. Now this data I need to
    transfer to an excell sheet. I tried to do so through report
    builder (6.0) but every time I try to convert my report I get a
    general protection fault. So instead I'm sending the data to a
    text file through text_io built in then reopening the text file
    from excel. Isn't there a better way to do it? ie sending the
    data stright from forms to excel?

    Microsoft changed some of the OLE calling interfaces for the
    Office97
    products. Thus, some of your existing OLE calls may need to be
    changed to
    comply with the Office97 interface.
    Consult with Microsoft and your Office97 documentation or more
    information
    on
    what the OLE interface is for the Office97 suite of products.

    Solution Explanation:
    =====================

  • Problem with synchronize in web form

    I'm runing forms server 6i with patchset 11...
    I'have a java bean wich extends VTextField, wich opens a file dialog and returns the path+filename selected...
    I have a navigable text item whose implementation class is this one for file dialog...
    Java class returns ok the filename in text item,value shows up in the screen...but if I try to process the value returned in the text item,I receive null..i've even attached a when-validate-item trigger with the code: :text_item:= :text_item ...I have enough 'synchronize ' inserted all over the pl/sql code...the only situation when I receive the value is when I raise a message,or alert in the screen...after this :text_item holds the corect value...However this is annoying,as my customers want this alert removed...
    does anyone has a idea about how can I notify forms about the wright window to synchronize with???
    Does Forms management team Knows something about this?If it is a bug,I wan't to know so I won't lose any more time....

    Thanks Duncan
    This last solution with using the Handler is working,the internal value is updated...however,the screen value of the PJC is nor updated...
    I'm using
    this.setProperty(ID.VALUE,fileDirectory + fileName);
    try
    mHandler.setProperty(ID.VALUE,fileDirectory + fileName);
    catch (oracle.forms.api.FException fe)
    fe.printStackTrace();
    System.gc();
    return true;
    I thinck I'll use that workaround with the get_custom_property....
    However,if you're here,I thinck I have some other problem:
    I have created a pjc on the forms wich imports or exports one line (identical with text_io package)
    This pjc is managed by a pl/sql package also created by myself...from the pjc I'm sending custom events to the forms:endoffile,invalidinfile,invalidoutfile...all works ok,but if a try to import a whole file(performing a loop in pl/sql),no custom event is received by forms,even if the pjc certainly sends it...
    That happens only while performing the loop...
    Is there any special reason why this is happening?is the listener for custom_events disabled during loops execution?
    I've found a workaround for this...I've created another endoffile property wich I'm reading after each line import...but this takes a lot of extra time,doesn't it?
    Thanks for your time

  • Open Word Doc from form in web setting not client/server

    Hello, I am new to form. I need to open a word doc (on client PC )from Oracle Form by a button click. I did some research online and looks like Client_Ole2 is the package I need. But when I looked into my Build-in Package (in forms builder), I only see OLE2, TEXT_IO etc. So when I try to declare a variable which is CLIENT_OLE2 like some post suggest, I got error message "identifier CLIENT_OLE2.OBJ_TYPE must be declared".
    So is that means that I need to install/setup WebUtil on my env to get this Client_Ole2 to show up on Form Builder?
    Thanks for help, please advise.

    I found the way to add webutil.pll to attached Libraries.This is the wrong way. Open the webutil.olb in the Forms Builder. Then open your form you want to add the Object Library too. In the Object Libraries node of the Object Navigator - double-click on the WEBUTIL node. This will open the Object Library properties window. Click on and drag the WEBUTIL entry to the Object Groups node of your Form. You will be prompted "Do you want to copy the object or subclass it?" Click on the Subclass button.
    Subclassing is a Forms method that allows you to share a single source of an object/code between multiple Forms. It is Forms' way of implementing inheritance.
    I also copied them to /forms/java directory too.This is not necessary. I recommend you delete the files you copied to the /forms/java directory. Forms will find the libraries if the .../forms directory is listed in your FORMS_PATH environment variable (see the default.env file). The /DevSuiteHome/forms directory should be the first directory listed in the FORMS_PATH variable.
    Remove path?". So I selected Yes. But when I run form, I got FRM_40039: Cannot attach library webutil while opening form ......".The fact that you are getting this error indicates that the /forms directory is NOT part of the FORMS_PATH.
    If I choose No to keep the hard code path, then if I deploy the form to testing server or production server, it will become problem! Right? How to solve this?Double-check to ensure it is listed. The variable entry should look something like:
    FORMS_PATH=D:\DevSuiteHome_1\forms;<any other directories you want to be part of your path seperated by ";">Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)
