TextArea fonts?

When I use TextArea's setFont() method;
TextArea j=new TextArea();
Container content = getContentPane();
JInternalFrame jf=new JInternalFrame("Window", true, true, true, true);
jf.setBackground(Color.white);
jf.setSize(400,400);
desktop=new JDesktopPane();
desktop.setBackground(Color.GRAY);
desktop.add(jf);
jf.moveToFront();
j.setBackground(Color.WHITE);
j.setFont(new Font("Verdana", Font.PLAIN, 10));
jf.add(j);
desktop.add(jf);
jf.moveToFront();
content.add(desktop, BorderLayout.CENTER);
jf.setVisible(true);
The font does not change, the font style and size do change but it refuses to change the font type. Even the getFont() method returns the correct font name but it doesn't show it. How can I fix this?

Well it seems to work for JTextArea but not regular
TextArea. Here's a example of what I'm trying to do:

import java.awt.*;
import java.lang.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
public class textareax {
     public static void main(String args[]) {
          new txtarea();
class txtarea extends JFrame {
     public txtarea() {
          super("Font test");
          Container content = getContentPane();
          TextArea k=new TextArea("Hello");
          k.setFont(new Font("Papyrus", Font.BOLD, 25));
          content.add(k);
          k.setVisible(true);
          setSize(400, 400);
          setVisible(true);
}
