The Adobe InDesign Plug-in Editor
Aiming to make life easier for InDesign plug-in developers, we're proud to announce the beta release of the Adobe InDesign Plug-in Editor. This is an Eclipse based editing environment; featuring graphical editing of FR resources, an error-sensitive, code completion capable text editor, a widget documentation generator, and functionality to compile your plug-in without leaving the environment. Unlike the previous GUI editing offering, Freddy (for InDesign 2), this release handles custom widgets without user input, allows the instantaneous switching of locales, and has a significantly more robust parser capable of faithfully round tripping nearly every FR file in the SDK and core resources.
The editor is now available, in three flavours, on Adobe Labs, at http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/InDesign_Plug-in_Editor. You can get it as a full distribution for Mac, and for Windows, and as a platform-independent set of plug-ins that can be integrated with an existing Eclipse installation (3.2.2 recommended).

got it working, but it seems that for finish button to be activated, all of the fields must be filled in both in the mac panel and the windows panel. I think this is wrong because, if i'm developing in mac, i would only need to fill-in information pertaining to the mac environment, just like the dolly x's application.
If i create a new plugin using dolly x, it does not require me to fill-in information that is windows related (I guess it only needs info on where to save the visual studio project file). Plus the editor, is using the config xml file that is also being used by the dolly x application shipped with the SDK. Can't this be a separate file instead?
Also, checking the XSLT files that dolly x uses, all of them are in version 1.1 which is no longer in development, XSLT version 2.0 is now a recommendation and i think it would be great if this will be updated.
I hope this information is helpful in better improving the editor.

Hi All, I am very new in developing plugin's for adobe indesign in mac. I came to know that there is tool "Indesign plug-in edtior" for creating new plug-in's for Indesgin. I downloaded the Indesign plug-in editor from "http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/InDesign_Plug-in_Editor". i just double clicked on the Ellicpse to get the ellicpse editor. Here i tried to create a new project by clicking the File->NewProject. A new Project dialog opened.Here i double clicked on the "In design plug-in development" folder and clicked on the "New Indesign Plug-in Project" and clicked the next button.When i clicked the next button It gave me an error dialog saying "Dolly input files are either not found or read only". How do i resolve this problem?
It's really annoying Adobe elected to name it a plug-in editor -- you have to write a plug-in first before yo can edit it ...

The user then export the document to pdf。
there is no problem in indesign CS3 and indesign CS4.
but in indesign CS5 and CS5.5,
export pdf, there will be two kinds of format：
Adobe PDF(Interaction)
Adobe PDF(Print)
If the user chooses to export a pdf(Interaction),there is no problem,
but if user choose to export to pdf(print)，
All of the footnote is replaced by an ordinary Arabic numerals 1,2,3,4,......
I think there is a bug in exported the pdf function in cs5 and cs5.5，
so ，who can help me to submit this bug to the adobe indesign development team？ thanks.

I've installed the Adobe Reader Plug In. Yet every time I click to see a PDF, it opens another browser and it is blank. The Browser reads about:blank. How can I fix this so that PDF's open in the browser?

I am experiencing difficulty opening some web-based PDF documents on my iPad. I had exactly the same difficulty on my iMac (after I upgraded to Yosemite) but was able to overcome it by adjusting the Adobe Reader plug-in security settings in Safari (in OSX).
Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to similarity adjust the security settings in Safari in iOS 8.
The message I get when I attempt to open the PDF (on my iPad) is as follows:
"To view the full contents of this document you need a later version of PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from ..."
Needless to say this is unhelpful for two reasons:
- I have the very latest version of Adobe Reader; and
- in iOS Adobe Reader is not a plug-in and plays absolutely no role in opening web-based PDF documents.
If anyone has experienced this difficulty and has been able to overcome it I would be most appreciative to hear of you solution.

good morning , I have installed Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium and I want to uninstall the Adobe Indesign CS5.5. Deactivation of the license is necessary before then reinstall ?
Are you just uninstalling ID, and leaving the rest of the suite in place? You don't need to deactivate to do that.
A suite license does not permit you to install individual components on many different machines so that different users have access to them, if that is what you are contemplating. -

If I have a *.indb document created in CS6, populated with InDesign documents from CS6, what to do, if I want to migrate my workflow to the latest version of InDesign CC-2014?
Short answer (avoiding trouble and headaches):
1. Convert all your InDesign documents from CS6 to CC-2014 (*)
2. Use NEW document file names for all your CC-2014 InDesign file types: *indd, *indt, *indl
3. Build your *indb documents for CC-2014 anew.
4. Use NEW document file names for CC-2014 InDesign file type: *indb
But isn't that a tedious task to do?

I currently have Adobe InDesign CS5 and this afternoon, I recieved a Adobe InDesign file from a client on PeoplePerHour.com. I was told they have same CS5 version as I have... I tried opening it but kept getting error message of missing plug in on my PC.

I have sent nearly a hundred crash reports. no change. adobe want money with no guarantee it can fix the problem. no matter the browser or website. the video never plays. I have update virus and anti-spam software. no other error message than the unhappy lego brick with error message stating adobe flash plug in has crashed. I have place a -1 in delay or some config in adobe. No change.

I find the browser slows to a crawl and all channels of my i7 CPU are indicating high loading. So I shut down the Flash plug-in via Task Manager to restore system usability.
Is there any fix other than removing Adobe Flash - or switching to an alternate browser?
ThanksWhat version of Flash do you have installed?
Try to start Firefox in [[Safe mode|Safe mode]]. This mode disables all extensions, user customizations, hardware acceleration, etc. temporarily for diagnostic and troubleshooting. If Firefox works fine in Safe Mode, then this is likely an add-on issue. Restart Firefox in normal mode, then type "About:addons" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Disable your extensions one by one, restarting Firefox between each one, until you find the trouble maker. Once you do, you can disable that add-on and report the issue to that add-on's developer.
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): [http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/].
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections. -
Rate the Adobe inDesign Tech Support
I'm considering a company-wide switch from Xpress to inDesign. How do you rate Adobe tech support for common issues? Are there commmon threads of either very good service, or very bad service?
Let's try scale of 1 (bad) --> 5 (very good)To be honest, I mostly just get tech support here. As Bob says, it's quite amazing how knowledgeable and helpful people are in this forum.
As a company, the things that will most likely irritate you or surprise you about Adobe as a switcher:
Adobe won't sell you an old version after a new one is released. If you haven't switched yet and your company does not plan to switch for another 6 months, Adobe could care less how this affects you.*
Adobe won't patch an old version after a new one comes out. (This one makes sense at least.)
Adobe is sloooow to patch, so sometimes a bug will linger throughout the entire life of the product version and be fixed in the next version. This one really burns me.
Adobe's installers are really pretty hideous if you have to do a bulk install to more than 4 or 5 stations and they so far refuse to do Mac/Windows native packages that can be pushed via native remote management tools.
* Volume licensing is a different story perhaps.
So basically, it is a difference in philosophy from Quark, who were always a lot more understanding about customers who weren't able to upgrade immediately.
Beyond that, make sure all the tools you will need are available either natively or as plugins. Make sure you understand some of the basic differences in page design too, such as always trying to keep the text on a separate layer above the transparency effects and not having master chains on your master pages.
NOTE: This is not intended as a universal critique of InDesign or Adobe, btw. This is just the gotchas that have adversely affected our company on what is a by-and-large excellent product by an excellent company. We're still switchers since CS1, so it's can't be all that bad certainly--just different!
