The applet

Hi. A question about the applet....
I'm using the follow parameter in the formsweb.cfg file to open my applications in an IE window that won't have all the user's Internet Explorer toolbars and push buttons. My intent is to maximize the amount of canvas displayed during runtime:
# Forms applet parameter
separateFrame=true
A follow up concern about using this setting is that the applet first opens in an separate IE window and remains open even after my application's IE window is closed by the user.
For our non-technical users here on my project this will likely be confusing. Is there anyway to sync the closing of the applet window along with the closing of my separate application IE window?
Or better yet - Is there a way to keep the applet IE window running for the user, but in a mode that is minimized or even invisible to the user?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

it can't close itself. You have to manually close it e.g. in your post-form-trigger of your main form.
then you start some java-script, which closes the window. Many examples of statement can be found in this forum, if you explicitly search for it.

  • JLable components not being displayed in the panel of the applet

    I am having the problem with the display of the JLabel components in the Panel component of the Applet.
    The JLabel components do not appear in the Panel of the applet unless i minimize or maximize the applet.

    hello...
    i just had the same problem... it was solved by using the .updateUI() method.
    in my case several textFields were dynamically added to a jpanel, there we called the method on that panel.
    ptf.updateUI();
    hope it works.

  • Enter Key is not being accepted properly in the Applet

    We have developed a Telnet application which is in form of an Applet. We are facing some problems with respect to that.
    We are using Java 1.2.
    When login sessions are launched, the login prompt is displayed.
    After we enter the user id and press the "Enter" Key, the UI remains at the "user id" prompt and is not accepting the "Enter" Key.
    As a result, we are not getting the password prompt and hence NE UI is not deing displayed.
    This was verified with logs and found that the "Enter" key was interpreted as "char 7" instead of Ascii char 10(Enter Key).
    This problem was observed in both IE and Netscape.
    But this same code works fine when it is run as a Java application. Also the same applet works fine when viewed from the Applet Viewer.
    Iam of the view that the issue may be due to the restrictions imposed by the browsers on the Java Applet.
    Please give me suggestions to circumvent this problem ,if u have faced the same.
    Thanks in advance,
    Darshan

    The reason why ENTER doesn't work is because it's reserved for the default button. The SPACEBAR does what you want.

  • Closing the Applet when I exit the form

    I am deploying an application on web plataform using Forms Server 6i. I have created my own base.html with a logo and a menu as appropiate. I am using Oracle JInitiator to run the forms. When I run a form, the applet is loaded in a frame created in my base.html. All is working fine, but, when I exit the form, I supposse the applet it's still there, because in the page a gray rectangle still remains. I would like to have a background image in the page, and when I close the form, the applet was unloaded, so I can view the background again. How can I get that.
    Thanks.
    P.D.: Sorry but my english it's not so good.

    Make a new project and import old one into this new one.
    See if you can find a up to date Auto Save.
    Also make a habit of 'Save A Copy' to a different drive after each edit session. Save A Copy does not overwrite after so many times as Auto Save does.

  • How do I update a file in an Applet's JAR file from the Applet code

    Here's my problem.
    My applet is using a serializable history data in which I am storing in the applet's JAR file. When I run the applet, I read the file with "getResourceAsStream()" and run my program with that hist data. When my applet is closed, I need to update this file from my Applet's code and I dumfounded about how to do that.
    Is there any way to update a file in the Applet's JAR file through the Java Applet code? (i.e. OutputStream?).
    Would appreciate any advice people have.

    Just place a copy of the file on the local hard disk and update that. When you start the Applet you try to read from the hard disk. If the file exists then no problem otherwise copy it from the jar to the hard disk.

  • Reading from the Applet's JAR file.

    Is it possible to read a file stored in the jar file that the (unsigned) applet is being executed in? I have a line that goes like (in is just an InputStream):
    in = getClass().getResource( "/exercise.xml" ).openStream();
    and then, in another class, i do (bulider is an instance of javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder, created from the DocumentBuilderFactory class):
    doc = builder.parse( in );
    but this always results in a security exception (works fine from the applet viewer). I tried specifying the full path to the .jar file as the codebase, but got the same results. I have not tested this from an actual web server, i am only opening the .html file directly in IE.
    Due to the nature of the application, it is not possible to host the file seperately on a webserver.
    It seems to me that there is no reason an applet shouldnt be allowed to load a file from the .jar it is executing in, could this simply be a problem of the file being local, and thus linked to from a file:// tag?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Guys
    I have figured out this problem. It's got to do with classloader.
    Applet uses a separate classloader. So using the static getSystemResource(),
    we never get contents from applet jar files. The following will work nicely.
    It is noted that you must loacate the applet classloader as in the first line
    and use the non-static method getResource();
    ObjectInJar obj = new ObjectInJar(); // create an object with a class in the jar file.
    ClassLoader cl = obj.getClass().getClassLoader();
    InputStream stream = cl.getResource("your_filepath_in_jar").openStream();
    Cheers.

  • JRE 1.7 / Java Plug-in - Long delay in retrieving the applet File(JAR) due to a request to the Domain Controller(on port 53)

    Description:
    A specific group of users/customers (using Windows7 OS with IE and FireFox web browsers) are facing problems with retrieving the applet File, after they upgraded the JRE on the system(PC) to JRE 1.7.0_25-b17 from JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11.
    With JRE 1.7.0_25-b17 it is noticed that when the Java plugin requests for the applet File; it sends a request to the Domain Controller of the user, which causes a delay of 2 to 5 minutes and sometimes hangs. The problem occurs consistently.
    The current temporary workaround for this group of users is to use JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11.
    Problem analysis:
    To investigate the problem the below steps were executed:
    1) Collected the Java console outputbelow details from the user's system. (The complete output is not posted due to lengthy content, though can be added further to this post if required.)
    (a) Works fine with JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11. Kindly refer to Java console output in the code ‘section A’ towards the end of this post.
    (b) The problem occurs with problem with JRE version 1.7.0_25-b17. Kindly refer to Java console output in the code ‘section B’ towards the end of this post. The step where the problem is observed, is indicated as(##<comment>##).
    2) The network settings in the user's browser was checked. Internet Options > Connections > LAN setting
    The configured option is 'Use automatic configuration script' and the value is http://www.userAppX.com/proxy.pac
    This configuration remains the same irrespective of the JRE version in use.
    3) The network settings in the Java Control Panel was checked.
    The used/selected option is "Use browser settings", although values for 'Use proxy server' and 'use automatic proxy configuration script' are filled-in as 'user-proxy.com' and 'http://www.userAppX.com/proxy.pac' respectively.
    This configuration remains the same irrespective of the JRE version in use.
    4) The proxy PAC file was checked and debugging was done for the request 'https://myAppletHost.com/download/...'. The FindProxyForUrl function (including the conditions defined in it, for the hostname and domain checks) returns PROXY user-proxy.com:80
    5) The user also tried the below
    a. Changed the option in the network settings in the browser to 'Proxy server' with Address 'user-proxy.com' and Port '80'
    b. Restarted the browser.
    c. Tried with Java Plug-in 1.6.0_29, JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11. There was no problem and no request to the Domain Controller of the user.
    d. Tried with Java Plug-in 10.40.2.43, JRE version 1.7.0_40-b43. The problem occurs with the delay and a request to the Domain Controller of the user is observed.
    Kindly refer to Java console output in the code ‘section C’ towards the end of this post.
    6) The user also tried setting the below property in the Java Control panel; restarted the browser, and try with JRE 1.7.0_40-b43. The problem stil persists.
    -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
    7) The Global Policy Management of the Domain Controller was verified by the user. It has GPO for proxy setting but nothing related to Java security.
    Questions:
    The problem seems be specific to a particular (user) environment setup, and the user faces the problem when using JRE 1.7.
    We would like to know if the issue is in the (user) environment setup or in JRE 1.7.
    Could you please help with information/ideas/suggestions to identify the root cause and solution for this problem?

    We upgraded the client to Java 8 and we saw in the console that the hanging connection with the Domain Controller no longer occurs.  This may be all that is necessary for your environment as well.

    I don't see applets mentioned in the supported features nor in the unsupported features so not sure if they are supported you would likely need to contact the operations team to confirm.

                   if("ON".equals(line))
                        return true;
                   else
                        return false;
    In html file :
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <SCRIPT language="JavaScript">
    var line='';
    function loadAppContent()
         line=document.TestApplet.returnFileValue();
         alert("val : "+line);
    </SCRIPT>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY onload="loadAppContent()">
    <APPLET CODE="A.class" NAME="TestApplet" >
    </APPLET >
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    I am calling the applet method. But I am not able to get value either as true or false.
    line=document.TestApplet.returnFileValue();
    Getting error as object doesnt support this property.
    I tried, line=document.TestApplet.line;
    Gets val as undefined.
    The line variable of Applet will return either ON or OFF value.
    Pls suggest where it has gone wrong or is there any other way?

    Yes it is a reserved word to warn that this applet , lets say send messages to the HTML page that call it.
    You will find the instruction how to do that at sun site.
    Yes you have to implement an interface inside the applet (code)
    and send a message to HTML with the name and parameters of
    the Javascript you want to call!
    But for all this to work you have to put in your project two new classes.
    And after that call some methods that does the job you want.
    Look for Java to JavaScript Comunication to get what you want!.
    check this per exemple!

  • Can we show the applet in a pop-up box

    Two questions:
    1. Closing the applet:
    In my applet, I want to enable the user to enter new text. There is a button that once pressed should cause the Aplet to disappear!! I call stop() on the applet once the button is pressed in ActionPerformed(after doing some checking) but the browser screen with Applet stays on the screen.
    2. I would like to open the applet in a box in the middle of the screen instead of it opening in the browser widnow (replacing what was there). Can I do that? and I would want the pop up to disappear once I am done!
    Thanks a lot
    merdaad

    Your Applet is embedded in the web page and the only way I know of to make it disappear is to move to another page.
    One workaround would be to make the Appet invisible - set it to 0 x 0 or to the same background colour as the HTML background. From your Applet pop up a new Dialog containing the necessary field buttons etc which you can dispose of when a button is clicked.
    Or, why not pop up your Applet in a new browser window with no toolbars, menus, address bars etc. Set the new window margins to 0 all round and set the window to appear in the centre of the screen and to be the same size as your Applet and your Applet. will look like it running in its own window rather than IE . You can do this with a bit of javascript on your main HTML page. Search on google for lots of examples. To close this on a button click you can maybe use some Java - Javascript communication. Search these forums for some examples.
    A couple of ideas that should get you started.

  • Using separate_frame=true and trying to close the applet window after...

    We are using separate_frame=true and trying to close the applet window (the one with the large gray box) after using the following post-form trigger:
    if :system.last_form = 0 then
         message('Please wait while Forms closes - '||:system.last_form);
         web.show_document('/forms/html/close.htm','_self');
    end if;
    This works fine for the first form we open, but if that same form using Open_Form to open a child form we have a problem. When the child form is closed the user is returned to the parent calling form (which is expected), but then when the parent form is closed the separate applet window fails to close. Any suggestions?

    I guess you mis-interpreted the value of :SYSTEM.LAST_FORM. From the online-help:
    SYSTEM.LAST_FORM represents the form document ID of the previous form in a multi-form application, where multiple forms have been invoked using OPEN_FORM.So LAST_FORM shows always the ID of the last activated form, and this will never be 0 if you issued one OPEN_FORM in your application.

  • Discoverer client screen hangs trying to load the applet

    ...or so I think.
    We have a portal server running Discoverer 10.1.2.1. When using IE 6, the developers can get to the login screen (we're using the default one) and after they hit GO the new client browser window comes up but then just sits there blank.
    The person that is our Discoverer admin and one other in the office do not have this problem, the rest do. Using Firefox does get you in, however the client is standardized on IE so we need to figure out what's wrong.
    It's failing right at the point where you should get prompted to install the applet, but never gets that far. I've turned off the popup blocker and added the portal to the trusted sites with no luck.
    I did find a METALINK report regarding this exact behavior when there is an underscore in the host name, but in our case there isn't. Regardless it's not the case since there are a couple IE users that are getting in so I'm guessing it's due to a specific permissions setting on the client.
    Anyone struggle with this before?
    Thanks.

    Update -
    One of the clients that IS connecting is running the latest: 1.5.0_09 which makes no sense based on the other behavior.
    Well we figured it out (I think). If you have 1.4.2_06 on the box, you can connect, it installs the applet and you get in. If you then upgrade or uninstall/reinstall 1.5, Discoverer still works. Now we haven't tested anything else other than just logging in so what ever might blow up on us is still in question.
    But what it looks to be is that the kick off for the install is failing under 1.5 and once it's on the system, using a newer version is just fine. Now without really knowing/understanding what's going on under the hood this is just an assumption. However I've repeated it on a couple XP machines so far.
    That is, have 1.5 on the box, fail to get to Discoverer. Uninstall, then install 1.4, get Discoverer loaded, then upgrade/reinstall 1.5 and move on.
    We did give JInitiator a try but had similar strangeness happen and gave up since the client machines should have a copy of 1.4 on them to begin with. It's a matter of ironing out the details with our app. Hopefully 1.5 will be compatable by the time we go live which isn't for some time yet.

    The applet is in the root folder ( http://www.foo.bar ).
    So i tried it like this

    Can anyone help me out?
    Peace!

  • Why can't I make the applet work?

    I have developed an applet to capture the video stream from a Logitech (usb) camera and display it in the applet. This is a clone of another program that captures a network camera video stream and does the same thing.
    I am using JBuilder 2005 and when I run the applet in the JBuilder applet viewer, it works fine, but not when I attempt to run it in the browser.
    In the network camera application, I was able to overcome this by signing the jar file and it would run in the browser.
    In the Logitech application signing the jar file does not work. I get the mesage that asks me if I want to accept the certificate, but it still does not initialize the camera.
    Since I can use it in the Applet Viewer, I have to assume that all the connections are set up OK.
    But the application fails when trying to get the capture device in:
    di = CaptureDeviceManager.getDevice(str2);
    I put the startup code in a thread and perform several iterations with a slight delay, suspecting that there may be a timing issue, but that was not the problem.
    This code also works in a stand-alone application version.
    The only thing I can think of is that there is some other connection or security issue that I am not addressing.
    Since signing the jar file works with network video streams, I have to think that there is something different between USB and network video streams, but I have no clue as to what it might be.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    from the JMF readme file
    Security Note
    During the installation, you will be asked two security related questions:
    * Permit recording from an applet
    If you agree to this, JMF will allow applets to capture audio and video from the local capture devices. It is possible for a malicious hidden applet on a web page to quietly record sounds or video from your system and transmit the data back to a system on the internet. This is usually a risk only if you visit unfamiliar web sites.
    You can disable or enable this feature by running the JMFRegistry application (or choose Preferences from the JMStudio File menu), modify the setting in the User Settings tab and commit the changes.
    * Permit writing local files from an applet
    This is a greater security risk since a malicious applet can overwrite files on your hard disk without your knowledge. Enable this feature only if you need it for a specific application and are sure that you will not visit any possibly malicious web sites.
    You can disable or enable this feature by running the JMFRegistry application (or choose Preferences from the JMStudio File menu), modify the setting in the User Settings tab and commit the changes.
