The bookmarks in my drop-down menu do not appear when I try to "organize bookmarks". When I try to bookmark a page, the folders in the drop-down menu do not appear as choices.

The trouble started when I transferred applications from my old computer. When I click "bookmarks", all my bookmarks are there. When I try to "Organize Bookmarks", it acts like I have no bookmarks. When I try to "Bookmark this page", it does not show all the folders that are in the drop-down menu. There are a number of bookmark files in the appdata\mozilla\firefox\profiles area, none of which are complete. I tried a backup and restore in the organize menu and a backup was created, but I don't know what was backed up. I suspect nothing was backed up. When I clicked a restore, nothing happened.

I'm not familiar with Windows 7, but... is it possible there is a permissions problem with your profile folder, or read-only set on any database files?

• I can create folders, but when I try to bookmark a page those folders don't show.

I have created a folder in my bookmark tab, and moved bookmarks into it. When I bookmark a site that I want to have in that folder, I have to create it, then manually move it into the folder since none of my "custom" folders appear when I create the bookmark.

Ok, I made a new profile (successful since I had none of my bookmarks etc). I clicked on Bookmarks and then right clicked to make a new folder (Test). Then I went to bookmark the open page and the folder named Test was not there. So I chose the option for New Folder and created Test 2. I then placed the bookmark in that folder. When I then open Bookmarks from the toolbar Test was there but not Test 2. When I click Bookmark This Page, I can see Test 2 as an option below Choose...
I hope that makes sense.

• I have lost all of my bookmarks from the drop-down menu. It says it is empty, but never have I deleted them. And when I bookmark a page it does not save it. Please help

Question
I have lost all of my bookmarks from the drop-down menu. It says it is empty, but never have I deleted them. And when I bookmark a page it does not save it. Please help

Ok this is bizzare!
Thank you for your response, I went throught each and every step without any luck, even got the recovery programme, and painstakingly tried to sift through all that mumbojumbo to find what i needed. finally found the bookmark bit, but it had been fully overwritten :(, so on reading about previous ff versions, found the sqlite thingys, and they were relatively unscathed(partly written over, but saveable apparently TG), saved them to adiff drive, amongst other possibly good folders. Then looked up how to install them, and it said to close FF, and install to profile folder.
So i tried to close FF, and the original problem from a few days ago, where it asked me if 'i was sure i wanted to close this window as it has X tabs open', popped up again. This is where 'open blank page' selection was set, over 'open previous tabs'. Wanting to save that info on how to sort out these friggin files, I reset the Option to 'open previous tabs', and closed FF. After unsucessfully searching for the profile folder on my laptop, i opened FF intending to search online for where i could find said folder.
AND BANG, surprise surprise, the FF I had just closed with only tabs open about finding out what the heck to do, had disappeared, and instead my original saved tabs were up, and my bookmarks are there..... I am gobsmacked! what the heck just happened there???
I have made 3 back up in different folders now, of those friggin bookmarks. I am weary now tho of shutting it all down.... what if its back to the other pages I had with no bookmarks, tomorrow :(

• When bookmarking a page, I can't get the complete list of bookmark folders to dropdown in order to select any folder in which to bookmark page. What do you set to get whole list of folders in Bookmarks to drop down?

When bookmarking a page, I can't get the complete list of bookmark folders to drop down in order to select any folder in which to bookmark page. The 'Folder:' bar has 'Bookmarks Menu' showing. The arrow on the bar drops down 5 recent folders to which pages have been saved, but the pop down arrow to the right of the bar just opens to show the three categories and 'New Folder' button. What do you set to get whole list of folders in Bookmarks to drop down?

To all, embarrassingly enough, I have discovered that I didn't know how to expand the three categories including 'Bookmarks Menu' in the 'Bookmark This Page' pop up interface. It was expanded by default on the initial Firefox opening and first page bookmark attempt. Next use it only showed categories. I clicked and double clicked the 'Bookmarks Menu' line, but failed to see the small, shaded triangle used to expand/collapse list. If it appears collapsed, just tap triangle at left of line to see all folders. It seems to open the same way after I do it for first time. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for all the attempts to help.

• I have never had to enter a password to access mail. However, recently, I keep being asked for password on my ****** address. Only on my macbook. (which, btw, has a version number the drop down doesn't offer as a choice. I had to putt 9.4)

However, recently, I keep being asked for password on my ***** address.
Only on my macbook. (which, btw, has a version number your drop down doesn't offer as a choice. I had to putt 9.4)
When I look up the account the "password" is a long string of gobbledygook. Something I would never do.
But when I attempt to use that pw I still can't get in.
I have no trouble accessing that email account on my mac mini. Just on the macbook.

Maiko,
I'm confess I'm still trying to get a handle on your problem. You do a fantastic job of describing it ... but I'm just trying to picture it accurately in my head.
I think, were I in your shoes, I'd begin by looking at what the debug page has to say for the specific destination in which you're interested in fixing. In other words, I'm not clear on where, exactly, this destination points ...
Destination illinois.edu.1945806043
Is that your site, or the division within your site that you want to fix? "Normally", you do not need to specify a site handle to get to your site within your transfer CGI ... if you say "uillinois.edu", it's enough to transfer your users to iTunes U ... but every site still has a handle, and you could, if you wanted to, actually specify it in your transfer CGI. For example, this:
Destination uic.edu.1139051993
is for my entire site ... it's my site handle. Whereas this:
Destination uic.edu.1991288441
is for a division within my site ... but it's impossible to tell the difference between "site" and "division" from just the handle (I mean, if I didn't say "this is a site" and "this is a division", there'd be no way for you to know). So when I look at your creds and permissions on your debug page, I can't quite tell if they give you download access for your site, or for the specific division you want to fix. If you could open the debug page with your division as destination (or confirm that that's what we're looking at), it'd rule out some things.

• When will the "Bookmark this page" selection be returning to the bookmark drop down? No, seriously! We want it back!

The removal of the "Bookmark this page" selection was a huge mistake. None of the answers really solve the issue. Click the star and then click it again so you can edit the bookmark then move it to the folder you want, or install this add-on to manage your bookmarks. The real fix for this issue is simply to put the selection back. People want simple and when they have something that works well they don't want it to change just because the programmer wanted to do it differently. So when will this functionality be returning?

* If you click the ★ Star Icon once, the bookmark ends up in the Unsorted Bookmarks folder.
* If you double-click the ★ Star Icon, you get to pick where to place the bookmark.
* If you right-click (or Ctrl+click on a Mac) an empty area of the web page and choose Bookmark This Page, the bookmark ends up in the Bookmarks Menu folder and you get to pick where to place it.
* If you press Ctrl+D (Mac: Command+D), the bookmark ends up in the Bookmarks Menu folder and you get to pick where to place it.
* You can click and drag the site icon (usually a globe or a padlock) on the left side of the address bar onto either the Bookmarks Toolbar, the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+B; Mac: Command+B), or the Library (Ctrl+Shift+B; Mac: Command+Shift+B; Linux: Ctrl+Shift+O).
The following add-on makes bookmarking easier in various ways. Among other things, it's able to remember the last used folder.
* https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/add-bookmark-here-2/
I see no reason to believe menu items that were deemed clutter will be reintroduced — especially when there are multiple ways to perform the action in question.

• When I try to bookmark a page not all the folders iun my bookmark menu appear.

I have 18 folders in my bookmark drop down window. When I try to save a page only some of the folders appear in the list of folders to save the page in. The folders that do appear are not in any sequence. Some are recently used some are not. I tried sorting by name but that does not change what shows up when I try to bookmark a page. The folders that appear are not in the order of my recent bookmarking activities.

That is not the case. I'm familiar with the arrows but the most I can get to display are six folders. The arrow to the right of Bookmarks Menu brings up the seven folders. The down arrow in the buttons allows me to make a new folder but do not show any existing folders. I think I'll try downloading Firefox again to see if there is a bug in what I've got installed.

• What happened to the bookmarks? next to the star which is bookmark this page is not a list of your bookmarks but the bookmark menu....

with the latest update. Next to the star where you can bookmark a page used to be the bookmarks drop down. Now it opens up your bookmarks menu. How do you get it back to being a drop down of your bookmarks??

• In the menu bar when I hit bookmark my list of saved bookmarks is missing. when I bookmark a page I don't know where they go.

my ISP sent me a fine tune disc after I ran it i could no longer find my lists of saved bookmarks. bookmark tab is there but when I click on it and the menu drops down it's gone How do I get it back. Also when I try to bookmark a page it goes through the process, the window opens I hit save but when I look for it on the bookmark menu it doesn't exist. Most add-ons, and plug ins were turned off. My yahoo tool bar is missing. I haven't tried it but am thinking worst case try system restore

A system restore won't help with corrupted files in hte [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder].
With so many problems it would be best to create a new profile.
See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile]]
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

I am on the web page Rothlynn.com and am not getting the option"Bookmark this page" from the drop down menu. How can I bookmark?

• What happened to "bookmark this page" selection in the "show your bookmarks" menu on the right?

Now I have to:
1) click again on the stupid blue star to get the menu to place my new bookmark where I choose to instead of have it go to unsorted bookmarks...
OR
2) bring up or have up the menu bar and click on the "bookmarks" menu choice of "bookmark this page" which brings up what I'd call the choice or sort menu that lets me access my bookmarks menu...
...where I wanted to go to create a bookmark AND I get to select "choose", which is what I used to do when adding ANY bookmark.
I want the "bookmark this page" selection back on the "show your bookmarks" list on the right...where it belongs. Why does everyone want to keep hiding the useful tools?
Firefox 29 stinks and I've had nothing but problems from the beginning...and since making the mistake of resetting.
I now have a folder of stuff that I have no clue what to do with as, upon resetting, I got "Oooops this is embarrassing, we're having a problem" or something. Any clues about what to do with all that "junk" (now, to me) might also be helpful.

I was used to being able to select the folder to place my bookmark without going into an edit session. This is as useless now as windows "libraries"

• Neither "Bookmark this page" nor "Edit Bookmarks" appears in the Bookmarks dropdown menu. How do I restore it/them?

"Bookmark this page" disappeared from the Bookmarks dropdown menu after I added a bookmark. The help pages I have consulted say that "Bookmark this page" is sometimes replaced by "Edit bookmarks" but I have never seen this choice.

What do you see in the Bookmarks menu?
Does it make a difference of what is shown (it should) if you open the Bookmarks menu with the mouse or use the Alt+B shortcut?
You can try to reinstall Firefox in case something has gone wrong with an update.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
*(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

• "Bookmark this page" option in Bookmark drop downs is replaced by "edit this bookmark" option - so can't add a bookmark.

As in question i.e:
"Bookmark this page" option in Bookmark drop downs is replaced by "edit this bookmark" option - so can't add a bookmark now. Recent problem - no problems last week. A recent Firefox update perhaps?

You can also open the bookmarks sidebar via the "View Bookmarks Sidebar" button in the "Show your bookmarks" button next to the star and drag the tab or "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) to a bookmarks folder in the sidebar.
*You can toggle the Bookmarks sidebar off/on via "View > Sidebar > Bookmarks" or "Ctrl+B" (Command+B on Mac)
