Thinking differently

I called the mobile division for assistance in upgrading my Blackjack to Windows Mobile 6. After the tech walked me through the upgrade the phone was stuck in airplane mode and no bluetooth. Every other function was working fine. The tech had me do a hard reset to no avail. He then told me to take it to an AT&T store to get it flashed back to the original configuration. We would then try to upgrade it again. I went to AT&T and they said crazy, they don't flash phones. I called the tech back and was told they would email me a mailing slip in order to send the phone to their repair center in TX. There it would be flashed and then upgraded to Windows Mobile 6 and sent back to me. I shipped the phone to Samsung and it passed inspection and was sent to S/W for update. Since then nothing but a run around. Waiting 3 weeks for a IC power fuse from Korea. No one can tell me when they expect the fuse. I talked with an executive supervisor and told her I had been without my for for 3 weeks and the executive supervisor said She would have bought a new phone by now. I said I spent $500 for the Blackjack and she said She would never spend $500 for a phone.
My experience with Samsung has not Wowed me, nor has it been Simple. Worst of all, I feel that Samsung has done something to me ... NOT for me.
All I ever wanted was to upgrade my Blackjack to Windows Mobile 6. Should have been simple, don't you think? I now find myself thinking differently, should have bought an iPhone.

Sorry for your troubles.
I have had similar problems with the other phones of my past. What led me to the iPhone in the first place was the intuitive simple use and the fact that apple backs there products unlike any other company I know.
That's not to say that you'd never have any issues with iphone ever, but I find it hard to believe you'd gone throughthis sort of heartache. I've never heard of anyone here being without there iphone for weeks. Unless they where waiting for shipments or something.
To me the iPhone has changed the market forever and slapped these other companies in the face and made them think "why"
Why not easier? Why not sleeker? ect.
Now I'm not saying things don't go wrong, ofcourse this place is like an ER room for iPhones and most people and topics you read about here are the ones that have problems.
But for me I think apple has been great, I wouldn't change my iPhone for anything, and I laugh everytime I hear "iPhone killer"
The thing I try to keep in perspective, is that we are all human and we always end up wanting more, it's in our nature. More, faster, smaller, bigger, better. Once we get our iPhone, something we never had nor expected, we get used to it. We start to nick pick. Why can't we do this with it. Why cant we do that. I want a new update. 1.0.1 comes out, where's 1.0.2? I want more space, beter camera, more more more.
Wanting, that's easy to do, how about building it yourself? You see even I get that way sometimes and all I do to put myself in check is think about a year ago when I was without my iphone then I smile and Remeber that I no longer have to have things perfect right now, because things are much better now than then.
There's nothing wrong with trying to better your life or product, but keeping things in perspective and being realistic and patient is just as important.
Ps if you do go for the iPhone, buy it from Apple.
It wills save you some trouble.;)

  • Think different template

    Hi there,
ibook authors is amazing, but I've a question about template.
All templates by default and even those that are for sale by third parties, are always in full page. But, if you browse book store you can find some books that mimic the book (you can see the outline of the book that protrudes from the pages).
How it works? It's not just a matter graphics, because if you use the book in landscape mode the book is smaller than the screen ....
I write a two links to clear what I mean:
    https://itunes.apple.com/it/book/peppa-pig-nature-trail/id461713781?mt=11
    https://itunes.apple.com/it/book/la-luna/id569609969?mt=11
    How it works?
    Thanks,

  • Install Edge on different drive

I have a small SSD for my C: (OS) drive, so I install all of my software on my D: drive.  In
Creative Cloud -> Preferences -> Apps  I have the install location set as:  D:\Program Files\Adobe CS
It works for most of the apps, but the Edge apps still install in:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe.  Tried reinstalling them but no go.
    Suggestions?

Looking in the forum index http://forums.adobe.com/index.jspa I do not find an Adobe program named Brackets, so that program would seem to have nothing to do with Adobe... http://brackets.io/ is an open source program, not controlled by Adobe
I can't provide a "good" answer... I can only tell you what I have read in many forums... Adobe has locations "hard wired" into some (many?) programs
You may think the program does not "need" to be installed on the C drive... it seems clear that the Adobe software engineers think differently

  • Anyone think that the new update...?

I think that the reason the new update makes my iPhone back up really quickly is because it no longer backsup the music and apps installed.
I went yesterday to get my phone checked out because it was acting up and the "genious" restored it. So i went home and noticed everything was wiped out but didnt mind because i had a backup on my pc. After the restoring it from my back up the music still didnt show up and my apps neither so I had to put them all in manually.
Anyone think differently? Doesnt updating the firmware on previous releases on the phone erases everything, even the music and apps? Then after the new firmware is installed the phone restores from back up? Then i think 2.1 no longer backs up music and apps!

I don't think I was clear enough. I have an 8GB original iPhone. It has been updated only twice and both times it was updated on my friends computer. All my the stuff on my iPhone comes from my computer though meaning that my iPhone is never synced to my friends computer. Yet when I updated from 2.0.1 to 2.1 none of my music or apps or anything disappeared it was all there, all though the backup before the firmware update took a lifetime my music and apps showed up afterwards. Now, yesterday my iPhone was restored and was left in it's originall factory settongs and I thought that my back up from the day before would just bring everything back but it didn't. The music and apps were left put and I thinks it's because 2.1 no longer backs up those two things because evrything else showed up. Even pictures and notes showed up but no apps or music.

Assunto:  Garantia iPhone Apple 4 16G
Para  : Itautec  S/A - Área de Garantia iPhone Apple
    Prezados,

(complementing Fernando`s complaint with another complaint):
I don`t know if you know this, but the warranty services for the Iphone in Brazil are the worst ever (that I have ever experienced) - something that I have never imagined from a company that is Apple's authorized warranty supplier. I buy Apple's products since 2008 and luckly I have never experienced any malfunction, but still, I always thought that if someday any of your products should show any trouble it would be very well cared by Apple. Unfortunately that's not what has been happening with iPhone warranty in Brazil. I`m sorry to tell you this, but I don`t know who else should I call, before going to the Justice to have my iPhone fixed. My story follows...
On the August, 28th of this year I bought an iPhone 4 16GB Black from a TIM store (TIM is a mobile company in Brazil) at BarraShoppingSul in Porto Alegre, Brazil. By November 21 or 22, the "Home" buttom stoped working, suddenly, without any drops or accidents - it just stopped working at all. So the following days I did two full formats through iTunes, turned on or off the phone several times and nothing happened.
I searched in Apple's web page what to do and I found out that I had to contact my phone operator and so I did. At November, 22th by 11:50 pm I called TIM (by the number *144) and asked them about what to do. The attendant told me that he didn't know because their system was off-line and that TIM would make contact the other day (protocol number: 2011254975382). The other day, they didn't call me by the morning and as I was already deeply annoyed by the problem of my phone I decided to call them again. So I called Tim at 1:11 pm at November, 23th (protocol number: 2011255278407), asked the attendant about what should I do to use my iPhone warranty and have it fixed. The atendant said I should go to a Tim store with the iPhone and all my documents, there they would make a call to Itautec (the company responsible for the iPhone warranty in Brazil), and that an Itautec member would make contact by the next following 48 HOURS, and that is what I did. At November, 26th I went to the shopping to exactly the same store that I had bought my iPhone, showed the iPhone with the problem. The attendant called Itautec, she told them all my data (address, iPhone model number, contact information), then she got a protocol number from Itautec. She gave me the number, and told me Itautec would make contact in 5 DAYS. The protocol number from Itautec is 12243392. It has passed 15 days and no contact has been made!
Deeply unsatisfied, annoyed and ungry with the malfunction in my iPhone, last week I did a google research about iPhone warranty in Brazil, and I`ve got surprised by the huge ammount of people complaining about it, extremely unsatisfied with Tim's and Itautec actions and lack of will to resolve their clients problems. You can look at "www.reclameaqui.com.br" that is a famous and very important brazilian site that allows people to publicise their problems with products, just make a search on the iPhone warranty subject, please (of course, in Portuguese).
After discovering so many complaints I decided I should not wait for their contact. First I tried the TIM store, I spoke to the seller of the iPhone about my problem, she felt sorry but she said she couldn`t do nothing: it's Itautec's responsibility now. OK, so I searched Itautec's web site about it, then I discovered something very "interesting": they only offer a phone number to speak about problems of iPhone out of warranty!!!
This is true! I have never seen such a company that only offers a phone number to products that are OUT of warranty! Nevertheless I called them (phone number: 08007727753), because I was deeply in need to speak to a human being of that company about my problem. I spoke with a woman called Rosangela and she repeated to me that she could only help if my iPhone was out of warranty - I told her I was desperate and so she told me that THE ONLY WAY I COULD MAKE CONTACT WITH ITAUTEC TO SPEAK ABOUT MY PROBLEM WAS THROUGH AN E-MAIL: "[email protected]". She also told me that probably a woman called Natalia would answer me. I sent the e-mail last week, until now, no contact.
I just don't know what else should I do. I spent a lot of money on this phone, I thought I was secure with Apple, but now I think different, and I`m telling everyone this sad story. Please help me, unfortunately Apple's image is being ruined with this too. I don`t trust TIM, nor ITAUTEC, but in Apple I still do. Please  help me!

  • What cable do I need to buy to connect my Macbook Pro (2011) to a VGA screen? I tried the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA", but apparently it doesnt fit the 2011 Pro version...

    As the topic says,
What cable do I need to buy to connect my Macbook Pro (2011) to a VGA screen? I tried the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA", but apparently it doesnt fit the 2011 Pro version...
    Help me out please.

    Yes ... minidisplay
But what I do not like in that picture (my personal view, others may think differently), is that there is much plastic around the connectors where the cable must fit.  You may ot may not be able to get the cable to *fully seat* with the adapter.
Other adapters (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0334087, yes I know this is a DVI) hve no plastic barriers to connections.

  • Submitted batch disappears

that's what happens now. I used to get Compressor to work...not now.
I submit a batch (from Final Cut Express or stand alone and I set a preset and destination, click submit. The progress bar shows for a few seconds in the monitor window and then disappears - and so does the batch in the batch window.
    This is Compressor v. 1.2.1
I find myself spending half my working day trying to fix Apple software, and it's breaking me down....It's seems like such a crock that the developers couldn't make stuff that works.
Any help from any of you out there appreciated. Something has to be reset or whatever. Frankly, I don't expect any help is going to come of this question...I don't seem many questions answered for this sorry app, and what answers there are are so complex - go to terminal, replace Qmaster, etc etc, and I've tried all that...Apple, if you're listening - - but of course, they don't care about you...they just want your money...buy our new improved products...what a miserable thing - -people are reduced to being slaves to machines...well, this is my livlihood, or it was supposed to be, before it sucked up all my time with troubleshooting. Shoot, I can't afford expensive classes either. What a waste of human potential. Think Different, my ---!

I was going to ask you to post the logs here but I think they'd be far too long. Try looking through them and see if there are any errors listed towards the bottom. Also, try opening the Console and see if there are any relevant errors listed there.
Yes, I have updated QuickTime, but who hasn't? Every other time there's a >software update, there's a new QT version. None of which warns you that >applications will be affected.
If that's the case, QuickTime could well be the culprit. As you're running Compressor 1.2.1, I will assume you are also running FCP 4.5. This was designed to run on QT 6. Some users have managed to get it running on QT 7 but they are on borrowed time and any subsequent updates could break it.
And yes, you're right - they should say applications will be affected but unfortunately they don't.

  • Can i create more than one instance for single database?

    HI
anybody can tell me how to create more than one instance for single database(without using RAC)?
    thanks
    Kalanidhi

    Anandji,
I sometimes think differently. I also think like what this person is asking..(although I have installed and administering 5 different RAC databases)
The main doubt of mine is that we create multiple instances accessing the same storage area.
Anyway the controlfiles of all instances will have the same information except the instance_names and instance id's.
Hence I always think , why can't it be possible to to create another instance in the same system and point it to a controlfile which is copied from the other instance.
Why can't the same files be shared between the two instances in a same system ?
I know I am thinking a little bit confusing...
Anyway I need to test that also...
    Mahesh.

  • Why do I only have v3.0.4 (104.7) of GarageBand if I just bought a new Mac?

Am I dense, or did I miss something? In December of last year, I bought a new 27" iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/4GB RAM, and it came with what I thought was the newest version of iLife. Obviously, it didn't, as my version of Garageband is v3.0.4 (104.7), while I see GarageBand v5.1 (or GargeBand '09) is, quite obviously, considerably newer than my v3.0.4, which was apparently created in 2006. In addition, iPhoto, iMovie, and iWeb are all now '09, while MY installed versions are iPhoto v8.1.2, iMovie v8.0.6, and iWeb v3.0.1. I've installed every update "Software Update" has informed me of, except updates for stuff like iPhone, which I don't use.
I'm sorry if I sound stupid, but why did I get what suggests itself as a "bait-and-switch" version of iLife with a brand new -- and hardly inexpensive -- computer? Yeah, I know: "Think Different. Pay more." It's been that way for 20+ years, but this seems a bit thick, even for Apple. Why do I now have to pay $80 to udpdate apps that were written 4 years ago?
Someone, please clue me in here. I feel as though I missed out on some big secret.

I don't know what it is -- sometimes I think I got handed a substandard brain in this incarnation. I know I installed the bundled applications (from the "Everything Else" package) when I first got the iMac home and set it up, but then I immediately used Migration Assistant to move all my apps and docs from my PBG4, and all I can think of is that the new iLife Stuff got replaced by iLife '06 components. I just now reinstalled the bundled apps, and I now have what I believe to be the completely up-to-date set of iLife and iTunes:
    iPhoto 8.1.2
    GarageBand 5.1
    iDVD 7.0.4
    iMovie 8.0.6
    iWeb 3.0.1
    iTunes 9.2
Thanks for the tip, without which I most likely would have, in my boneheaded way, bought a new copy of iLife '09. I amaze myself constantly... and not in a GOOD way.
    Thanks again!

  • I already have an ipad, iPhone and iPod on my iTunes.  Can I add my wife's iPhone to my iTunes?

I already use iTunes for iPhone4, iPad and iPod classic.  Can I add another iPhone4 now my wife has one?  If I already set up an Apple ID for her, do I now need to keep the two separate or can I simply erase that Apple ID and put all devices and Itunes through the one Apple ID/iTunes?

It's alright, I don't have a Mac so I get confused too. The option key should be somewhere to the left of the space bar and look like it is trying to represent railway points.
I don't know how migration assistant works, but presumably it has dumped an iTunes folder somewhere on the Mac. Inside that should be a file called iTunes Library.itl that is the core of the library. Unfortunately iTunes "thinks different" so we can't just double click the file to open it, that opens whatever the "current" library is instead, so you'll need to hold down option (shift for Windows) to get a dialog to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the relevant file.
If iTunes can't play your music at this point and gives the exclamation mark of doom then we need to go back to the Windows 7 library, tweak it up for easy export then bring it over again. Overview here. Customized instructions on request.

  • Multiple users password for some pages on iWeb site?

    Hi guys,
I've been checking out this topic here on AD, but not really happy with what I found. Is there anybody out here who could help me with a multiple users password html code??? I want a "members only" link on the homepage linked to a page where people have to enter username and password and then go to a special "homepage" where they can click to different PDF files. It doesn't sound that hard, but again, I don't like the html codes I found so far. Hope there is someone out here who knows something nice.
    Thanks!!
    Marc : )

Marc ~ You may have to +"think different"+ to integrate the following suggestion into your iWeb site, but take a look at: http://drop.io/about
    Here's an example: http://drop.io/alancito
    ...the password there is: guest1
You'll find a downloadable PDF document at the bottom of that page and note that drop.io didn't require an email address, name or personal registration to set up the above “drop”.

  • Can't Install Final Cut Studio 2.0

What the **** is going on? I just got a new iMac and the Universal software I own can't install? Is there no workaround - no alternate installers available? You have got to be kidding me.
    Any help would be appreciated.
I love how Steve Jobs was known for "Think Different" - yes they hit a home run out of the park with certain products - but they get a huge #EpicFail in customer service.

Here's a user tip on installing fcp
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2861
In particular, there's a link to this
    http://www.secondchairvideo.com/?cat=28
which details a method in which you create disk images of all the dvd's.  Works great.

  • One iPod shuffle on two computers

Is there any way to use my iPod shuffle both on my desktop Mac and my iBook? Take this scenario: I fill my iPod shuffle about half full of music on my Mac Mini. Then, I grab my iBook and go on the road. While on vacation, I buy a new CD, or perhaps purchase a few songs from the iTunes music store. I import the CD into my iBook, and then wish to put it, or the purchased music, on my iPod shuffle. If I connect the shuffle to the iBook, it'll say something about the shuffle being linked to a different library and that continuing would wipe all the music off of it! All other iPod's I've used can be put into "manual" mode and this works fine, not to mention songs can be played directly from the iPod - the shuffle has to "think different" it seems. Is there a way to actually accomplish this, or would I then be forced to wait until I get home to load more music on the shuffle?
I can hear someone already saying, just use your iBook for all your music. Nope, because I don't want to take out my iBook every time I want to listen to some music, nor do I want to manually be shuffling songs back and forth between iTunes libraries.

The conspiracy theory for not having "manual" mode on the shuffle is that it's the cheapest iPod and "manual" mode somehow makes it easier to copy music from the shuffle to the host computer. I find that unlikely because it's just easy to get music of all the iPod models as long as you know what you're doing.
There are progams that let you update the shuffle manually. They are easier than the alternative (copy the files to the iBook, load them into iTunes, update the iPod with the songs).

  • How do I update grouping or description for multiple items?

As the question implies, I would like to update information in the Grouping and Description fields for multiple items as a way to keep things organized. What I have discovered is that there are some quirks in the new Get Info window that were not in past implementations, which are completely inexplicable and nonsensical to me.
For instance, when you open the Get Info window for an item that has no information in, for instance, the Grouping field, you will not see a Grouping input field, as in this screenshot. The Grouping field should be where the bottom arrow is. Notice also that the Description field is available. I will get back to that in a minute.
If you manually double-click into the Grouping field on the main iTunes screen, you can enter the information there. Then, when you open the Get Info window, ta-dah! The field magically reappears, as in the screenshot below.
The trouble comes when you want to edit this field for multiple tracks. If you select multiple tracks, and they do not all have the Grouping field already populated, the field does not appear. What this means is that you are forced to manually enter the information for every track! This is completely unacceptable when you need to edit information for, as in my case, 122 tracks. The following image shows the Get Info window that appears after selecting two items, one with the Grouping field manually populated, and one with no info in the Grouping field.
Not only has the Grouping field disappeared, but the Description field, as well. Thanks, Apple, but I think I can decide for myself whether or not to populate these fields for multiple items. Let's get 'em back, huh?
SO… does anyone know of any valid method for accomplishing this task? Without manually entering the same information in hundreds of fields? This is the future; computers are supposed to do these monotonous tasks for us, aren't they?
Oh, please don't suggest Option-clicking to open the older, better, Get Info window, as Apple has decided that we should not have that option any longer. We apparently have to organize our music their way. Think different!

The Add Field button was in the editors of 12.0.1 (where the new-style editors had a very "half-finished" feel)  - it is not there in 12.1.  Apple have determined which metadata fields should be available for each kind of media, with no option for the user to modify this.  In Apple's own words: "Get Info has been completely redesigned in iTunes 12 to focus your attention only on what’s necessary for the selected item."
    The only options are:
temporarily change the media kind (Options tab) to one that includes the field you want to add values to, enter those values, and then change the media kind back again
make the relevant fields visible in an appropriate list view and edit values there - the big limitation being that you can only do this one item at a time
I can see - to a degree - why Apple may have made some limitations so that metadata elements are available based on their relevance to different media kinds.  However, one of the issues mentioned above seems like a bug - if a single audiobook file can have a Description tab, I see no reason at all for that not to be available for multiple items of the same kind.
If not already done so, report these issues and dissatisfaction with the "new" metadata editors in 12.1 (and the absence of a "back door" for the old-style ones) using Apple's iTunes feedback page.

  • How to create page breaks in numbers?

How do I create page breaks in iCloud Numbers?   The spreadsheet I created is 4-5 pages long, but it saves as one long scrolling document, and when it prints, all 4-5 pages are seen (very small, unreadable font) on a single page.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Dave

This excel feature is not exactly available in Numbers.
Here we may create up to 255 sheets in a document. They are reachable from the thumbnails area.
And each sheet may embed up to 255 tables also reachable from the thumbnails area.
Think different or use Excel !
