Time Capsule Freezes (locks up) When XP or Vista makes a PPTP VPN

So my 500GB Time Capsule works great other then one big problem I have been having. I use the TC as my Router / Firewall. My work uses a PPTP VPN server. When I use my work laptop (XP) at home or my Vista Boot-Camp on my MB. I can get connected and work for hours with no problem. EVERY time I disconnect the VPN tunnel my Time Capsule freezes up. (the light goes solid green) The only way to resolve this is to reboot the Time Capsule.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I am running the latest TC firmware from apple.

I should also note when I make the PPTP connection from OS X (10.5.6) partition on my MB everything works fine. It DOES not lock up when disconnecting.

Yes, antivirus apps can cause all sorts of problems with Time Machine backups -- some of them can actually corrupt your backups!
By all means, exclude your Time Capsule from it.

Time Capsule freezes when transferring files

My time capsule freezes when data is transferring from my Macbook Pro during its initial update. I tried to connect it through WiFi or ethernet cable. It just freezes like when 800 Mb - 5 Gb were transferred (I have left it overnight). What can I do?
How about doing it by USB cable?

Sorry I cannot follow why you would even use the PC to control the Time Capsule. Apple have not kept the Windows version of the utility up to date.. so they keep making it harder and harder to run windows with apple routers.

For me, a time capsule is even safe when you have whatter damage op fire in your house. Am I wrong or is it just an additional HD like there are so maney with the only advantage that it goes automatically via your wifi for apple devices?

As I have posted before, You, and others having issues with Verizon would be much better off if you complained to the FCC and FTC as well as your Senators and Congressmen. We, as individuals, have such small voices - use them where they might do the most good.
Also, don't assume that Verizon doesn't monitor these postings, they actively do & sometimes contact those that post complaints.

It may be in the process of making room. What version of OSX are you on? (That process can be excruciatingly slow on Leopard or Snow Leopard backups over a network; Lion has improved it greatly.)
A clue may be lurking in your logs. Use the widget in #A1 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to display the backup messages from your logs. That should help you figure out what's going on. If in doubt, copy and post them here (but if the same ones repeat over and over, drop most of the duplicates).
If you can, connect via Ethernet; it will be 2-3 times faster.

Time Capsule high latency (ping) when using WDS

I have this WDS configuration.
An Airport Extreme 802.11g connected to my cable modem as WDS main
A Time Capsule as WDS remote.
Both are using channel 1 with WPA/WPA2 Personal.
I can access the Internet. Printers and AirTunes work fine. But I have some high latency when pinging the ISP modem on 10.0.0.1 from any device connected through the Time Capsule.
More specifically when I am connected to Airport Extreme 802.11g the ping looks fine: within 1-10 ms. Both if I am directly connected to the Extreme with a cable or wireless.
BUT when I am on Time capsule (both wired or wireless) my latency time looks very awkward ranging from 1 to 1500 ms.

All packets get there but they are terribly delayed causing bad communication while using Skype or SIP telephone from my laptop and imac when connected through the Time Machine.
I have tried to change the multicast rate on both of them but with no success... still bad latency

I have found the solution.
I post it here so it might help someone.
The issue is: even if you are in WDS don't use the WAN port in the Time Capsule.
Leave that one empty and use the other 3 LAN ports... and it will make your Time Capsule work perfectly!
The weird ping result in my previous msg were produced by a computer connected into the WAN port on my TM set into WDS. The port works and behave as a LAN port actually but it's not working properly. Avoid using it!

Just the network is cranky..
Simple first step.. restart the TC.. ie unplug the power cord.. count to 10.. plug it back in.
Second step if that fails.. restart the network.. off everything.. restart in order.. modem.. TC.. clients 2min gap.
Finally if you are prepared to fight you can load 5.6 utility onto Mountain Lion and do a disconnect all users.. or a few other ways.. turn off file sharing and turn it back on.
The issue being TM did not dismount the sparsebundle correctly.

ITunes stored on Time Capsule, ? lock location for good

My iTunes are stored on my time capsule which is the router for my network. If I always make sure that the Time Capsule is running and opened, then when iTunes is started, all is well. However, if iTunes is not closed or if an iPod is connected even if not set to sync or my wife opens iTunes, iTunes will open before the Time Capsule has been opened. At that point, it opens using the default location in my user location. This is not what you want and then you have to relocate iTunes back to the Time Capsule. You would want to lock the location so these accidents etc don't matter and you do not have to relocate the location. The same would be if you used another external hard drive rather than the Time Capsule.
Is there a way to keep the location set so the only way it would change is for you to change it. Help

One thing you can do is you have Time Capsule listed as a login item. But if you were to open iTunes before the computer connects to the hard drive then iTunes will default back to the internal drive but this way it will occur less. To have Time Capsule as a login item, go to System Preferences>Account>Login Items. Add Time Capsule to the list. And connect to Time Capsule before going into System Preferences.

Time Capsule Volume Not Mounted when waking from Sleep Mode

Time Capsule 500GB, unibody MBP, 802.11n WPA2 encryption
Question: I setup Time Machine to use the disk on Time Capsule. I entered the password then locked the Time Machine preferences. Time Machine backs up to Time Capsule successfully.
I've started to noticed in particular when using Sleep mode often when the machine wakes up (appears to be random) it loses connection to the disk on Time Capsule despite it being locked in preferences. So I would have to unlock preferences, then click on Change Disk, click on TC's disk and enter the password and it connects successfully.
My question is...what is causing Time Machine to unable to mount TC's disk? I have a full strength wireless signal once the laptop wakes up from sleep. I can browse the Internet, use the Airport Utility, etc. however randomly Time Machine can't find TC's disk.

After upgrading to 7.4.1 firmware it fixed my problem

I am not too bright at networking, but I will try my best to explain my problem. I have an existing wireless network with a non-Apple router. I use both a PC and a MacBook on this network. I am trying to use my Time Capsule to extend my network into another room. I start by resetting my Time Capsule. I then open the Airport utility, and my Time Capsule shows. I then go through and set all the new settings. While doing this, the utility also lets me select my existing network, and enter my password for that. It then accepts my settings, and beings to set my Time Capsule. It is at this point it can't seem to find the Time Capsule anymore??? I tried a few times and got the same thing. Help! Thanks.

The Time Capsule creates both a 5 GHz band and 2.4 GHz band on the Main network using the same wireless network name (SSID). The 5 GHz band offers faster communication between devices.
But, there's always a trade off. To get the higher speeds, this band must give up distance and penetration power, so it's pretty much a "line-of-sight" deal between your computer and Time Capsule.
The 2.4 GHz band penetrates walls, ceilings and other obstructions much more effectively. So, if your computer is in the same room as the Time Capsule or a close adjacent room, it will probably connect to the 5 GHz band. Down the hall and around the corner, or upstairs, it will probably connect to the 2.4 GHz band.
Your computer(s) will automatically connect to the best quality signal, not necessarily the fastest signal, (which could be much weaker).
If you enable the Guest network, your "guests" (or kids, perhaps) will be able to access the internet, but they will not be able to see any of your drives, computers, etc on the Main network. Nice feature.
Here's the downside. When you enable the Guest network, you are taking some bandwidth away from the Main network. So, it makes sense to enable the Guest network only when you have "guests".

Time capsule USB printer works when I connect via ethernet but not over wifi

I have a USB printer hooked up to my new Time Capsule. If I turn off my wifi and connect to the Time Capsule with an ethernet cable it works fine. When I try to do the same thing over wifi (even when I'm sitting next to it) it cant seem to make a solid connection. Most of the time it just says Printer Paused, but sometimes it will work, other times the printer just clicks, or starts but then stops. Other than that my wifi connection seeems pretty good.
Is there something with the settings with my older "08 MacBook and the newer Time Capsule?

Did you upgrade install ML into the MB??
It sounds to me like it has corrupted the wireless drivers.. and I think you will need to do a clean install.
If you have internet working over wireless I see no reason for this to happen though.

Time capsule has been disconnected when move files

I have a home network with a imac and a samsung ultrabook with windows7, and always when i try to move any bigger file from the time capsule to the ultrabook the network crashes, than i have to reconfigure the network adapter. What could i do to solve this problem?
P.S. with the imac everything works perfectly.

If it is intel wireless, try different version..latest might not be the best but worth a try.. download direct from intel.
I don't know how the major manufacturer of wireless chips has so much trouble but Intel cards seem to be the number 1 for these issues.
