Time dimension - not ordered

Hello,
I'm new on OLAP Cubes,
I've made one that works well instead of the fact that my time dimension is not sorted : dates are not in order.
I've tried to sort dates before the cube, in the views. but even if when i see time attribute sorted in my view my cube time dimension stays unsorted.
I'm working with AWM 10g
please help !

You can always use the time_end_date attribute to sort the results of the query. When you say that the time dimension values are not sorted? what do you mean .... is the hierarchy correct ... all nn-JAN-yyyy records under JAN-YYYY or is it also mixed up due to the improper sorting? Can you provide more details... perhaps all details relating to db view/table - structure (table/view, columns, datatype, size etc) and sample data (few rows) as well as how the data appears in the olap time dimension when viewed through AWM results. Whats loaded (all of the records but sorted improperly or if only some of them => what're the records which dont get loaded?)
Also noticed that you used the term olap cube time dimension.. the time dimension is not exactly an independent component of the cube, its used by the cube. Its defined in the AW and exists only as a dimension (independent of any/all cubes). The cube only references it.
Another reason for mismatch (not very likely though) could be that you have time end date data in your view as a varchar field instead of a date and is interpreted wrongly while its being loaded as a date datatype attribute by the AW dimension load program. Depending on your NLS settings (and thereby the default date format), the date string is interpreted as a inappropriate date. You usually encounter errors during such a load ... day #13 interpreted as month #13 (invalid) as a result of a mismatch of date format settings.

I created a Time dimension using the wizard that contian both Normal and Fiscal hierarchies on a repository created on 10.2.0.1 DBMS
I exported the poject in mdl and imported it in repository on 10.2.0.3 DBMS ... the Time dimension in the new poject wasn't loaded correctly
the Rows of the Day level contain information about the upper fiscal levels' columns while the columns of the normal hierarchy containd null

So, yes, you can only use this if you are using database 11.1.0.7 or later and if you are creating an 11g style AW.
You can map 10g style AWs to OBIEE, but it is a manual and complex task. You would need to start by generating views using (for example) the OLAP View Generator (10.2.0.3) available on http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/options/olap/olap-downloads-098860.html . After this you would need to manually create the mapping metadata in OBIEE.

Security on Time Dimension?

A while back when we built out our BPC environment it was recommended that the Time Dimension not be part of security. What are you thoughts on applying secuirty on the time dimension?
Th reason I ask is because the getonly range on templates is fragile. Securing time would help us protect our actuals.

Install this patch to receive an updated OSoftDMTaskMain.dll file. To install the patch, perform the following steps:
1. Uncompress the file CPMBPC01P_2.zip.
2. Locate the BPC Setup folder that contains the executable program file "[Server] AutoUpdate For BPC 5.1 (5.0.496.01).exe".
3. Run this executable file on the Application Server, choosing Install when prompted.
4. A "Successfully updated" message appears when the installation completes successfully.

I read that by default the LEVELS are set to the lowerst. so thats fine. I set them by myself to the lowest as well but the ERROR is still the same.

Optimizing order by query with multiple time dimensions

Hello all,
I have two time dimensions, one a standard date dimension (Year,Qtr, Month, Week, Day) the other a user defined Time dimension (All, Hour, Minute, Second).
I am joining my cube with my time dimension using only the 'All' level, so that I can get a single record for the Day level in my Date dimension. Under these circumanstances there aren't many records in my sample data. Less than 100 dates, although at the lowest level(seconds) there are approx 2 million records.
In order to get my results back in order I am ordering by the date dimension day_end_date. The query is taking longer than I would expect given that there aren't many records at the Day Level. How can I ensure that my query is ordering based only on the values in the current day_level and not all day_end_dates values in the underlying cube.

Time Dimension Roll-Up Not Working

We are on BPC NW 7.0 SP04. We are experiencing a strange problem with Time dimension. Even after defining the hierarchy correctly, the values are not being rolled up the hierarchy. Our requirement is to capture data at quarter level and year level. So we have defined the time dimension in following manner:

Here TYPE is a custom dimension property . As the members depict, 2007.TOTAL value should be calculated as the sum of 2007.Q1, 2007.Q2, 2007.Q3 and 2007.Q4 (Quarters and Years are mutually exclusive in our case). But when we maintain data for Q1,Q2,Q3 and Q4, the TOTAL value is displayed as the value of Q4, and not the sum of quarters. We have tried changing MEASURES from PERIODIC to QTD and YTD, with no effect. We thought that it could be a problem with BI, and so built a simple BeX Query on top of the BPC application cube. But in the BEX query, the time dimension is properly aggregated, nd values are displayed correctly. So apparently it is not a problem with BI. In that case, we are missing something in BPC itself. Can any of you identify what it could be? Awaiting answers and Thanking in Advance.

It's just a problem that a lot of people run into when they are getting used to BPC. Once you see it happen to 10 or 15 people, you can start to recognize it pretty quickly

the time key is incorrectly specified at the lowest level. In the 'ERP_YEAR_MONTH' table, have you correctly specified the primary key for the table?
For example, if the lowest level of granularity is MONTH, then the appropriate key is probably a combination of YEAR and MONTH (not simply MONTH).

Time Dimension Does Not Aggregate to Q1 and Year Level

Our fiscal year starts from Jul - Jun with standard quarter and year summation (no custom measure).
Now we are facing problem where the account balance in period July and August do not add up to Q1 level and Year level, BUT account balance in SEP is added to Q1 level and Year level. Same thing goes for other quarter where only Dec month can update Q2, Mar month can update Q3 and Jun month can update Q4. Other months can be submitted but they do not aggregate to its respective quarter level.
Below is the summary of the setting:

You don't have to change the ID, you just have to change the hierachy to be how you want and to make sure isBeginningproperty is 1 for month which is starting the year Quarter and Year.
In your case if I understood correct you would like to have
2010.JUL will have prenth 2010.Q1
2010.AUG will have prenth 2010.Q1
2010.SEP will have prenth 2010.Q1
2010.OCT will have parenth 2010.Q2
2010.Q1 will have parent 2010.Total
In this way you will have your Fisacal year with the aggregation expected.
If you need both fiscal year and Standard Year then you have to build two hierarchies into Time dimension.

Month Sort Order Problem in Time Dimension(Essbase with Obiee)?

I am facing issue with month order in answers.
First I created BSO cube using Essbase Studio. When i exposed cube in answers, months were sorted in alphabetical order. So i used RANK function with evaluate to arrange month members in proper order. But if i use RANK function it pulls all missing records and it is effecting performance.
Then i created Time dimension(dimension loading) in essbase from FLAT file,initially it was coming in proper order. But after some time again it sorted in alphabetical order!!!
I have seen in internate few people saying they didn't face this problem. I
Please advice...

That's a fairly common problem with months that happens regardless of database source.
In the logical layer of OBIEE you can specify the sort order on the month name column. Just double click on the month name column and look for the option to set sort order based on a different column. I typically sort the month name based on the month number.
Give that a shot and tell me if it works.

BPC Time Dimension - 13 periods NOT Calendar

My client reports 13 periods in a year (4 weekly).
Quarter two contains 4 periods (periods 4, 5, 6, 7).
I was reading a post about how to set this up properly using the UserTimeId property. They had a situation where they needed to put their 13th period in Qtr 4, and they discussed using this property, but the answer didn't go into exactly what settings to put in the UserTimeid property.
Could someone explain how to set this up in BPC so that it calculates properly - my system is a YearToDate system (not periodic),

Hi Scott,
Have you tried just putting these 4 periods in Quarter 2 on your time dimension hierarchy? I believe the hierarchy (not the properties) is what drives QTD reporting, so theoretically that should work. I have not tried your specific scenario however as it is a fairly uncommon setup.
If that doesn't work and you can explain exactly what kind of issues you are seeing, then it might be easier for others to come up with helpful solutions.

I ordered on 7/15 at 10:24PM. I was just informed at 8:05AM that shipments are based on PROCESSED time. My order was PROCESSED on 7/20, pushing my ship date for my LAUNCH DAY order to 8/3!

You are in the typical catch22.. you cannot use the TC without setting it up.. you cannot set it up without Lion.. so you can install the latest utility.
Do you have any reasonably current iOS devices.. they can run the iOS version of the utility.. that will allow you to set up the TC.
Or invite a friend with a laptop running at least Lion
Or take the TC back and get a plain USB hard drive and backup to that.

Arpeggiator note order, time signature

I'm a bit confused by the arpeggiator. I think I understand the controls for it in Logic X, but maybe I'm missing something. Does the arpeggiator work along with whatever time signature you have set for your project? It doesn't seem to do so. If I have 10 notes selected it seems to be making a 5/4 arpeggio, not 4/4. Another question I have is how to switch the actual note order around. I don't know if I'm just a weirdo or what, but it seems like every arpeggio I make I'd rather the 1 come in at a different spot rather than what is automatically generated. I don't know if that makes sense, but I simply want the arpeggio to start at a different point then where it does. Hopefully that makes sense. thanks for your help.

actually, what i'm seeing now is that when i play a chord, say 3 notes on the keyboard, the arpeggio starts with some pattern for like 3 beats just once, and then it switches over to a different arpeggio, i don't understand, does anyone know what i'm talking about??????
