Time Machine error code -50?

Hello, I've been trying to get Time MAchine to do an initial backup to my new Time Capsule drive, and it seems to have stopped overnight with this error:
Oct 5 23:48:15 Macintosh /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[434]: Error: (-50) SrcErr:NO Copying /Backups/Home Folder - 2008.08.02-19.02.03.652.IncrementalBackup/Contents/Contents/Backup.sparseimage to /Volumes/Backup of x's Computer/Backups.backupdb/x’s Computer/2008-10-05-164404.inProgress/478AE609-F235-4C4C-A405-3D2BF6BAE87F/Maci ntosh HD/Backups/Home Folder - 2008.08.02-19.02.03.652.IncrementalBackup/Contents/Contents
Does anyone know what this is about? The error says something about an incremental backup, but I was doing the first backup of my system.

I think I figured out what is going wrong; it looks like the hard drive in my MBP is going bad, and Time Machine appears to be failing when it gets to a file with bad sectors in it.

Thanks guys but I am scr***d. All my business documents are back up on Time Machine. Tried the Verify option says back up drive is not available. Am I missing something? I have a WD NAS which has my TM backups on it. I know they are on there because I saw them before the clean reinstallation of the OS X.

  • Time Machine - Error Code 43

I have a OS X 10.5.8 on IMac and my Time Machine says 'An unexpected error occured-error code 43.  The only key I can press is OK.  What does this error mean?

    Hello,
error -43 fnfErr: File not found
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Repair Disk on the external drive.
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If TM display doesn't even show up, see this...

  • HT201514 Time Machine - Error code -6584, what to do?

I have received the the following message from my Time Machine - The operation can't be completed An unexpected error occured (error code -6584)
What do I do to resolve it?
I have restarted the time machine.

There are several references to the error in discussion if you look at the more like this on the right ..
This one has some answers.. basically option click on the Time Machine icon and use the verfiy backups.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17748380#17748380
I don't think Pondini lists that particular error but it is caused by a combo of issues.
He has a few answers listed in the post above.
You have listed the OS is 10.7.4 Is this correct??
There was a supplement to 10.7.5 to fix some serious TM issues.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1599
Then just follow some of the instructions in the pondini trouble shooting.
If the backups are corrupted you might need to erase and start again.. this is not unusual with wireless connection.

  • Where can I find Time Machine error codes?

Hi, My time machine backup keeps failing with error code 11. I can't find documentation explaining error codes, can anybody point me in the right direction?
    thx!

At this point TM error codes are best known by the Apple Tech support people or at least they will have access to the software engineers who will have this knowledge. As fas as I know there's no definitive list of TM error code available to users/customers.
You can always send Apple feedback on this issue.

    Reset time machine.

Do it properly and rename the TC.. use short no spaces full alphanumeric only name.. and same for wireless names.. btw.
    Rename the hard disk..
Then point the TM to the disk of the TC.

  • Time machine error code 22

I have a the items listed below.  Recently I had to unplug and remove all of my network devices, Aiport Extreme, Motorola Cable Router/Modem (TWC) and a western didgital my book, and western digital portable passport.  Everything was working great before I moved everything, but I did not change any settings.  The two hard drives are plugged into a powered USB hub.  I use the mybook to store media and the passport to store my two computers time machine back-ups.  Well now when I try and back up the error code 22 pops up and everything ejects and I can no longer reach them.  I have ran the disc utility on the drive and it checks out.
The only difference in my setup now is that A-B USB plug I was using from the powered hub to the extreme is longer, from 1.5 feet to 6 feet...could that be the problem and why??  The powered USB hub should help shouldn't it.
Hopefully I covered all my bases...

One other question if you don't mind.
Do I need a really need a separate partition for my Time Machine Backup on my drobo.
    Sooner or later, most likely.
I have already put data on drobo so to create another partition would erase all the other data and its quite a lot . Is the reason for a partition to stop time machine running away with the space.??
Yes. See #3 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • How do I fix Time Machine error code 43?

When I try to open Time Machine in my applications folder, it won't open and i get a message with Error Code 43.
I've never set up Time Machine before on my G5.  I did add a new internal hard drive about 6 months ago but other than that, there are no other drives connected to it.
I recently bought a MBP and a time capsule.  i would like to back up my G5 to the Time Capsule before I start moving data/info from my G5 to my MBP.  I've already set up the Time Capsule to work with my MBP.  Now I just need to set up my G5.
I've read in another forum that I may need to re-set my preferences in Time Machine (on the G5) to get it to work again.  They recommended "right clicking" or "control" click to open time machine.  When I do that, I don't get a menu item for preferences.  So I don't know how to find the preferences.
Maybe there is something else I need to do or know, that is why I'm looking for help.
    Thanks,
    Ehren

    Hello Ehren,
    1. Start System Preferences
    2. Select your Time Machine Preferences
    3. Select a new target for your Backups, or uncheck recheck it.
    4. Begin backing up

  • Time Machine - Error Code 10657

When I try to view anything backed up (ex. - iTunes), the following comes up:
"Operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code 10657)."
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The CHOWN statement has a problem with the parameters. I also noticed after fixing the permissions of the Pictures folder and subfolders (was "700", now "755"), I was still experiencing the iPhoto launch problem.
My solution, after noticing that I could go to Terminal and launch the application from /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Mac OS/iPhoto, was that ownership of the files in the application was not correct.
    My fix:
Bring up the Get Info on the iPhoto application in the Applications folder and manually add myself as a user. (I guess you could also add "Everyone".) This solved the issue to me.
Caveat: Launching iPhoto from the old icon on the Dock still returned the error! (Huh?!) I had to launch the application from the Applications folder, then use the Keep In Dock function and trashed the old iPhoto icon.

  • Time Machine: Error Code 19

Started getting this since the security update was applied on 10/15 or 16:

    Can anybody help explain this?
    Thanks, in advance.

  • Question on Time Machine error log

I have a program (Time Machine Error Log) that keeps track of the message log entries that occurr after you do a Time Machine backup.
I am getting two messages each time Time Machine completes a backup.
Here are the two message from the last log:
    Jan 13 17:39:29 xxxxxx-iMac.local com.apple.backupd[36854]: Error: Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-36 "The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -36.)" (ioErr: I/O error (bummers)) deleting backup: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Back
    Last Successful Backup Message:
    Jan 13 17:39:37 xxxxxx-iMac.local com.apple.backupd[36854]: Backup completed successfully.
How can there be an error reported stating "deleting backup", then a message stating "Backup completed successfully"?
If I didn't check the log, I wouldn't know that there was a problem, because the Time Machine preferences pane tells me the last backup time, and the next backup time, indicating all went well.
I just need some verification that my backups are completing successfully.
    Thank
    Len

There is a lot of rubbish messages that TM produces.. if the final message is that all is good, then I would say all is good.. it is pretty quick to decide when something isn't good.
But I would say.. there is only one way to know a backup is good. Restore it.
You don't need to test restore over current drive.. plug in an external drive and restore.
You can do a verify.. hold the option key whilst clicking the TM icon in the top menu area.. and the option verify will appear.. click that. It really doesn't test more than files are readable though, AFAIK.
Do a disk image occasionally.. Disk Utility can create an image.. but superduper even free download version can do a full disk image. Makes me feel safer knowing that I have a backup TM doesn't actually have anything to do with.

Yes, it's so full it can't get started -- not even far enough to start deleting old backups.
If you have other data there (not usually a good idea), move some of it elsewhere temporarily, and try again.
If not, manually delete a couple of old backups, and "compact" the sparse bundle, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #12.
