TMP Files uneder /OracleBIData/tmp

There are a huge tmp files that are created under the /OracleBIData/tmp (10gb file)
One of the reports that we create is very big (67 columns and over 50000 rows)
What is the purpose of these tmp files and are the files are cleaned by the application? And if they do when?

Re: Strange error in requests returning huge data has some related info.
I've also had some problems with this tmp directory growing out of control. From what I can tell, each .TMP file is only relevant to one user. It also appears that the TMP file should be cleared when a user logs out, but that doesn't always happen in our environment. In a recent test, I placed a large report (~65K rows) on a dashboard. When I navigated to this report on a dashboard, a .TMP entry was generated. It took about 30 minutes to build the entire TMP entry, and when it was finally created it was about 1.4 gb. After the TMP entry was finished growing, I logged out and the BI server cleared the file.
In another test, I navigated to the same report and watched the TMP file begin to build. I then logged out when the entry was only at about 500 mb, but the TMP entry continued to grow even after I logged out. It grew to 1.4 gb again, but it doesn't look like OBIEE was able to clear it out automatically. Probably because I logged out before it was done generating the file? After bouncing services on the BI server, the TMP entry was cleared.
Does anyone know of a setting that would limit the size of a .TMP file? I know MAX_CACHE_ENTRY_SIZE in NQSConfig.INI controls the cache (.TBL) files, but that does not appear to control the .TMP file sizes.

  • Redirect *.TMP files into another directory

    Hello,
We have Forms 6i and also Forms 10g applications, and alll these run on a IBM AIX server.
We noticed that our applications generated sometimes a lot of big or less big *.TMP files in the /tmp directory of our server.
These files are usually automatically deleted when the application closes as normal. But, when a crash occurs, then *.TMP files remains for ever...
We would like to monitor these problems, and see whether it's possible to redirect the *TMP files on the server into another directory on the same server.
I suppose that there is some setup to make.. but I have no idea what to do.
    Thanks,
    Olivier

    * symptom: The user Oracle also is creating the file l(seven digit number). temp under /var/tmp
    * symptom: Using the "browse" window in forms
    * symptom: Running forms creates a temp file /var/tmp that keeps getting filled up
    * change: NOTE ROLE --------- .t files - ASCII files - temporary files generated by reports Open up the .t files the first 5 characters indicate what report in Applications created the .t file. .tmp and .temp files - binary files - temporary files generated by forms Forms uses the operating system function call tmpnam() to generate file names that can be used safely for temporary files. tmpnam() depends on the setting of P_tmpdir defined in /usr/include/stdio.h (HP may have a different directory). The P_TMPDIR can only be changed from the OS side. After changing the P_TMPDIR all forms in applications must be recompiled. P_TMPDIR is equivalent to TMPDIR on some UNIX boxes. If the TMPDIR (or P_TMPDIR) is not set up then all the temporary files are created under /var/tmp directory.
    * cause: There is a lack of disc space for temporary files.
    fix:
    1. Redirect /var/tmp under a different/new disk which has more space
    OR
Make a soft link from /var/tmp to a directory with sufficient space on the same
    disk.
    2. Set up a CRON job to clean up the files under /var/tmp frequently.
UNIX system administrator and/or the operating sytem vendor, HP, has
knowledge/information about this clean up script.
    3. Change P_TMPDIR or TMPDIR on the operating system if P_TMPDIR or TMPDIR is
    not set up correctly.
    4. Recompile all forms in apps with adadmin utility afterwards.
    5. Set up P_TMPDIR or TMPDIR (depending on the UNIX brand) if it is not yet set
    up.
    WORKAROUND:
    1. Ask the UNIX administrator and HP about spool file directory and user quota
    on the operating system HP.
    2. Change/Increase the value of "
    3. Change the spool file directory to something other than /var/tmp.

  • Excel automatically create .tmp file when open after close Excel, tmp file still there

Anytime I save a change to one of my Excel files, the TMP file appears in the destination folder and remains.  The "main" Excel file
saves the retains the changes that I made and after each subsequent change, a new TMP file is created...old TMP files are not deleted.  This is only happening with Excel files.

  • Acrobat 8 professional causing recovered tmp files in trash

I have recently done a clean install of CS3 including Acrobat Pro. I'm getting an occasional bouncing of the Acrobat program icon in the application doc. It acts as if it wants attention, but when you click on it its just open and has no warnings. This is really annoying having to baby sit the app by clicking on the app icon.
Anyway, I'm also getting strange system performance issues. I'll restart and there will be recovered files in the trash. They are all acr1234567.tmp files. They look like Acrobat temp files.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Mac/IntelDuo2.4/2GB/10.5.5
    Much appreciated!
    Evan

Upgrade to 8.1.1 the 8.1.2 should stop the bounce.

  • .pdf file changed into .tmp when trying to send pdf file as attachment

    Dears,
A few days now, .pdf files are exported as .tmp files if we try to send them as attachment directly from the adobe reader plug-in in internet explorer 8.
Unfortunatly Outlook interprets .tmp files as harmfull, so we are no longer able to send pdf files directly.
    (screenshot in attachment)
Is there any chance we can configure this so, pdf files are exported as .pdf instead of .tmp
    More details:
    OS               : Win XP SP3
    browser        : ie 8
plug in          : Adobe PDF Link Helper (not sure this is the one that provides us the pdf reader functionallity dough)

I cannot reproduce that (Adobe Reader 11.0.3, IE8, Win XP-SP3).  In fact, I cannot even see the Attach to Email option, but the file name is correct.

  • Why does Flashplayer for Firefox create 1000's of FAP####.tmp files and never cleans then up?

    Version Info
FlashPlayer Plugin version: 11.9.900.117 (and many version before)
Firefox version                   : 24.0 (and many versions before)
    Windows Version               : Windows 7-SP1
    Directory of Files               :  C:\Windows\Temp
    Details
I noticed this started all of a sudden over the last year or so, when my virus scans started taking longer and longer and more and more files were being scanned even though no windows updates were done to the computer and regular windows cleanups (Administrative tools->Free Up disk space app) were performed. Before that it was fine.
It doesn't happen right away. It happens after many web browsing sessions (may take several hours to reproduce) of opening and closing the Firefox web browser and browsing a lot of Flash based websites. Once it starts every single website that contains a flash player object cause the files to occur (In other words, it's fine for a while and then all of a sudden it starts, even if you restart Firefox).
There is 1 file for every flashplayer object on the page (example: 2 flashplayer items cause 2 FAP####.tmp files to be generated). The only way to stop this (temporarily) is to reboot the computer (I only reboot about once a week and use hibernate during the week).
I had over 3500 of the randomly numbered files in the windows temp dir and the windows cleanup doesn't recognize these files as candidates to remove (I guess because they are application specific files). So I have to keep a Windows Explorer session open in Win Temp dir to periodically remove the files.
I did google this and found this has been going on here and there for a few years. There were various discussions about uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox and the flashplayer and then people claim it didn't work and started again after some period of time.
I also found a website that said this was caused by some protected mode the flash player is running now. They gave instructions on how to turn off the protected mode, but I've been hesitant to do this, due to some of the protections that were described and was afraid I'd be leaving myself open to viruses or other attack.
Why is the flashplayer generating these files?
Why isn't flashplayer cleaning up after iteself and forcing me to clean up thousands of files manually?
why doesn't Adobe manage this properly once and for all, considering how long it's been going on?
I would appreciate any thoughts on this issue.
    Thanks.

Can you post back here a screenshot from this issue?

  • [SOLVED] Files in the /tmp directory are being deleted

    Hi,
I've been using Arch Linux for four weeks, but have now come across a problem which I can't fix after trying to search for a solution (and also checking to see if anyone also had the same problem). I would appreciate any help you can give.
A few days ago the web browsers I use (chromium and opera) lost their profile settings, and I had to set the profiles. This kept happening and the indicator of the problem was that I use profile-sync-daemon for both web browsers, which uses the /tmp directory. I then started noticing that a file I created in /tmp disappeared which pointed me to the fact that something was cleaning up the /tmp directory (this seems to happen hourly).
A quick search led me to systemd-tmpfiles and the /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf file. I have not modified the file, and if I have read it correctly only files in the /tmp directory that are more than 10 days old are deleted. I boot every day, so no files should be deleted by systemd-tmpfiles (unless I've misunderstood tmpfiles.d).
Here is the tmp.conf file anyway:
    $ cat /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf
    # This file is part of systemd.
    # systemd is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it
    # under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License as published by
    # the Free Software Foundation; either version 2.1 of the License, or
    # (at your option) any later version.
    # See tmpfiles.d(5) for details
    # Clear tmp directories separately, to make them easier to override
    d /tmp 1777 root root 10d
    d /var/tmp 1777 root root 30d
    # Exclude namespace mountpoints created with PrivateTmp=yes
    x /tmp/systemd-private-*
    x /var/tmp/systemd-private-*
    X /tmp/systemd-private-*/tmp
    X /var/tmp/systemd-private-*/tmp
The /etc/tmpfiles.d directory is empty, so /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d is the only location for the tmpfiles.d config files:
    $ ls /etc/tmpfiles.d/
    $
Here is the list of packages I upgraded/installed for the last few days. systemd 207-3 seems the likeliest candidate, but I have not come across any reports about the problem I am having.

I think I have found the problem.
There was a gnome update earlier in the week. gnome-settings-daemon runs an hourly housekeeping job. I had set the "Automatically Purge Temporary Files" in the Privacy tab when setting up my laptop last month.
gnome-settings-daemon has decided to delete files in the /tmp directory (I can trigger this by clicking "Purge Temporary files" which then deletes my files in the /tmp directory). This does not happen in the previous gnome-settings-daemon. Anyway, I'll mark the thread SOLVED if my file in the /tmp directory survives the hour!

  • .tmp file is created by NI Report generation toolkit for logging data to MS Excel

    Hi,
I am getting ".tmp" file while logging data to MS Excel by NI Report generation toolkit. Instead of assigned file name, toolkit is generating a junk value with .tmp extension, but I can able to open this .tmp file with MS Excel.
Can anyone help to solve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Thirumala

    Hi Thirumala,
You may experience issues when you try to save a Microsoft Excel file if one or more of the following conditions are true:
    1. You save an Excel file to a network drive where you have restricted permissions.
    2. You save an Excel file to a location that does not have sufficient drive space.
    3. The connection to the Excel file has been lost.
    4. There is a conflict with an antivirus software program.
    5. You save an Excel file that is shared.
    6. The 218-character path limitation has been exceeded when you save an Excel file.
    7. The Transition Formula Evaluation feature is turned on in Excel.
    8. The file was created from a template that contains embedded objects.
Hope this will help to solve your problem.
    Thanks,
    Sanad MM

  • Recover .TMP files on offline folders in Windows 7 Synch

    Hello.
I have a user with Windows 7 Pro and we set him up for offline folder synchronization.
Somehow several of his office docs disappeared and seem to have been replaced by several
.TMP files with similar sizes and dates.
We only keep 7 days worth of offline folder directory backups and when he told me his problem
it was too late to get them from the backup tapes.
Is there a way or a process to recover anything useful from these TMP files?
    Thanks
    -Joe

Have you restored your mistakenly deleted files back? I hope my answer is not too late.
In fact, after deleting something off from a drive or PC, the lost files are still recoverable, as long as they are not overwritten by anything new in the same place.
Therefore, if you really have not got your data back, you can also take chances with some data recovery tool like
Recuva, 4Card Recovery, iCare Data Recovery Free and more to restore your wanted files back.
No matter which tool you choose, you’d better not save all restored data on the same PC drive in case of any data recovery failure.
Note: Never forget to back up everything important all the time.

  • Submit pdf form as HTML will attach a tmp file to email

    I all,
I'm just trying to submit a simple pdf form as HTML but I always get a "RandomFileName.tmp" file as attachment to the resulting email.
If I open the tmp file with a text editor I see it contains my form fields name and their related values.
But I think the end-user has not all the knowledge to open a strange file name with a tmp extension.
Why do this happen? is it a bug?
I'm using Acrobat X and Thunderbird 24.0 as email client.
Is there a simple way (I don't know javascript) to get all fields/values in the email body?
This task should be really simple but I cannot find any usefull info on adobe website.
TIA for any help or suggestion.

Is there a simple way (I don't know javascript) to get all fields/values in the email body?
This can be done with JS, and it's not too complicated, but you can't generate an email from Reader without any attachments (well, actually you can, but then the amount of data you can put in it is very limited), it has to have either the entire PDF, or a file with the form data, attached to it.

  • Smart Objects without tmp files

I am trying to place/ import a .psd as a smart object into a composite and have Photoshop keep referenceing that same psd witout it creating a local tmp file.
does anyone know fi this can be done?
    Thanks!

Embedded objects are independent of any original file. Embedded objects are a copy of whatever (file, layer, group, etc)  anything supported by Photoshop.  You can have smart object layers in a document that share a common object.  If you replace that common shared object all the smart object layers that share that the object pixels will change and be transformed by the smart object layer's associated transform.  This is often used for  creating picture packages. However the replacement object must be the same size as the original object for all the transforms to work correctly.
In fact when you update a smart object layer by double clicking on a layer's smart icon in the layers palette.  Photoshop copies the object into a unique file in your user id temp space the first time you double click on a layers smart icon as a work file. This file will remain there till the document containing the object the temp file was created for is closed in Photoshop. If you make more the a single edit  to a smart object  layer in an edit session the same file will be use only a single temp file is used any given object. Photoshop will delete any temp files it created for a document when the document is closed in Photoshop. When users commit changes to the temp work file Photoshop will update the documents embedded object. The work file may be updated  by Photoshop or a Plug-in like ACR.
There have been threads about creating  metadata links for Smart Object layer to help user try to keep things in sync.  I don't know if its possible or that is that desirable not to have versions of objects

  • Tmp file missing from root

    Hello,
I need to create a bootable backup of my hard drive, but my cloning solftware says it can't because a required system file (tmp) does not exist at the root of the source volume. I don't remember intentionally removing it. Is there a way to reinstall it where it belongs.
    Thanks in advance,
    josearturo

First, use Disk Utility to repair permissions. If the "real" /private/tmp/ folder is missing this will replace it. Next recreate the symbolic link in the root:
If your /tmp file is suddenly missing, various action such as starting Classic, printing, software update, file sharing, and burnings discs will not function. To fix this, open up the Terminal and type:
    sudo ln -s /private/tmp /tmp
Hit return, enter your admin password, and hit return again.

  • 1000'S OF iT.TMP FILES IN ItUNES DIRECTORY! ???

    Re: iTunes 7.6.1 & 7.6.2.. Windows XP, SP3
    Aloha,
After having spent months adding my CD collection to iTunes--over 41 GB worth-- I discovered in the \My Documents\My Music\iTunes folder, right below the iTunes library files were 1000's of IT.tmp files totaling over 7 GB! I only saw this because I was sitting at my computer when it did a backup one night instead of leaving it alone.
I talked with iTunes Tech by phone..they hadn't a clue and just said to delete them, which I did. But iTunes is still doing it and does not delete them when the program closes!
Has anyone else had the same experience? Does anyone know why iTunes is doing this and...maybe...have a fix?
Thanks and Mahalo for your resposnes.

    Aloha Katrina,
Ah Ha ! I must be slow late at night! The .tmp files are the iTunes Music Library.xml as it gets bigger!
I moved the .dll file for Uplayme into a backup folder, then launched iTunes and imported two cds..actually three..Sun Kil Moon's "April" has a short bonus disk. I only got two iT.tmp files, instead of one per track...a great improvement! I'll have to try it again when Ihave a bunch of new ones -- after my next Honolulu business trip. I may try fully uninstalling Uplayme and see what happens then, because it doesn't happen, as I said, on my other laptop with only iConcert Cal as a plugin.
I had thought the Uplayme plugin would be fun because it suppossedly links you to others who share your like sin Music but..alas..I just don't have the time for that sort of thing!
    Thanks for your help,
    DRDRJAY ( Jay )

  • Can I delete the .tmp files?

In "My Adobe Captivate Projects" folder I have noticed a
large number of .tmp files. Is it safe to delete these? They are
not in a specific project folder and some are very large.
I have about 22 projects and about 15 .tmp files. Example
    names are Ado1AC.tmp; ADo1AF.tmp; Ado51D.tmp.
    Any ideas?

    Welcome to our community, ameurope2
They should be safe to delete. However, it's worth noting
that under certain circumstances, Captivate projects sometimes
perform a disappearing act. And often, you may simply rename the
ADO??.TMP to ProjectName.CP and you can be back in business.
    Cheers... Rick

  • ITunes .tmp files -- Over 8.5 Gb of them

I've got over 8.5 Gb .tmp files in my My Music/iTunes folder. This is comprised of over 175 .tmp files. It doesn't appear that most of these files have been accessed anytime recently. My music files are stored on another (internal hard drive), not within My Docs.
Needless to say, this seems to be a pretty big waste of HD space. Which, if any of these files can I delete and how will it impact iTunes? Is there anyway to keep these files from being created over and over again?

Yates, are the .tmp files showing up on the same level in your itunes folder as your itunes library .itl and .xml files?
if so, that's usually associated with security software interfering with itunes writes to your library files:
What are the iTunes Library files?
(it's actually more common on a Mac than on Windows PCs, but i've seen it reported every now and then on Windows PCs dating back to the itunes 4.9 days.)
what makes and models of antivirus and/or antispyware packages are you running? by any chance, is it nod32?
(i don't have a good feel for which packages are more likely to cause this, but we had an example of this show up in itunes 6.0.5.20 that turned out to be associated with nod32.)
