To convert special characters to English characters.
Is there any functional module to convert special characters(Latin) to English characters?
Hi Meera,
Welcome To SDN!!
try using the function module 'SCP_REPLACE_STRANGE_CHARS'.
Give the variable with special characters in intext.

How to retrieve non-english characters from a query
Hello,
My apologies if this post is not in its proper place, but I was a bit confused where to add it.
I'm running a query using SQL Developer on a table which contains several companies names from many different countries, and one of the checks I need to make to ensure data consistency is to search for all rows which the name of company contains special or non-english characters (like ç, ã, ä as example).
I don't know what can I use to do this. I tried to collate using NLS_SORT but it didn't work.
Is there someway to select only the rows that contain these special or non-english characters, excluding from the results the rows that only have english characters? Please have in mind that we have many languages in this table.
The field I would like to make the conditions on is VARCHAR2.
Please let me know if there is any extra information I should provide you so that you can help me.
Thank you in advance for the help.

Problem in print out with English characters (THANGSAN font)
Save Our Environment. Save Yourself.
Hi Experts!!
I have created a smartform and print program which should actually print some Thai characters and English characters too. I created a smartstyle and have some 10 paragraph formats and are all have THANGSAN font. So, I am printing all the thai and english characters in THANGSAN font only.
When print preview is seen, the output is very fine, but when being printed, the thai characters are appearing fine but the english characters' font is being changed to somehting else (courier or arial). Why is this happening so? Because of this, all the output is being merged and looking very weird.
The smartform is created in EN and is translated to all languages. All user has logged on to SAP in EN language.
Can somebody please help me out with whether the problem is with THANGSAN or the printer?
P.S. The smartform is actually similar to the standard script Z_RVINVOICE01 in which only THANGSAN is used.

Georgian Font Automatically Converting to English Characters
We recently downloaded a Russian and Georgian font and attempted to use them in Adobe Illustrator CS3 on Mac OS X 10.5. When we use the fonts they automatically convert to English characters.
How do we get the fonts to appear in Georgian characters?
We also tested the fonts on a Windows computer using Fireworks 8 and the fonts appear fine. So perhaps its just a setting issue in Illustrator.
Thanks for any info. Two things I believe you have to do n a mac on is to go to the system preferences and chose International and enable the language you want in the input tab then I think in this case you can go to the type panel and have the options show and then at the bottom choose the language I assume Russian. Not certain the second part is necessary.
Make certain of course you first select the georgian font you have installed before inputting.
I hope this helps. -
Only VBA does not recognize non-English characters
Hello guys,
I have a new laptop with Windows 8.1 bought in the USA and I'm having a difficulties with Excel VBA (Office 365 University-64x bought in the Czech Republic - Central Europe). The VBA does not recognize non-English characters (particularly "ř" and
"ů") which causes me problem when running some codes that I wrote earlier on my previous laptop (Windows 7, bought in the Czech Republic with the same Office).
The problem with non-English characters has occurred only in VBA so far, otherwise I can use these characters normally in Excel cells, Word... I tried to install both English and Czech version of the Office with no change, I also installed Czech proofreading
tools and set everything to Czech in the Office. The location and language preferences in the Windows are also set up to Czech. And it is not a problem of a font. I also mentioned that when I tried to look up these characters, using Ctrl+F, it changes
original ř to r after a search and again this is only an issue of the VBA.
Thank you very much for any help.
TomHi Tom,
VBA for Excel can only recognize ASCII code from 0 to 255, if you use other special characters like "ř" or "ů", it will returns 63(?) to you. To use this kind of characters, you have to utilize ChrW function to parse a decemal to the
character.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee177465.aspx
for example, the hex code and dec code for these two characters are as below:
Hex Dec
ř 159 345
ů 016F 367
So to get these two characters in VBA, you could code as below:
ChrW(&H159) or ChrW(345)
ChrW(&H16F) or ChrW(367)
You can get the hex code of the character by searching in the system character map(in the Win8.1 start view, search "character map"), then convert the hex code to decimal code by yourself.
Range("A1").Value = ChrW(&H159) & ChrW(&H16F)
Range("A1").Value = ChrW(345) & ChrW(367)

Appreciate your help.
Thanks,
AbhijitFonts are defined in the template you use to generate the pdf. Your application add the data and both is processed yb the FOP processor. Now there are two possible causes of the '???' :
1. the data you sent to the template contains the '???' already
2. the template can't digest the data (the special characters) and puts '???' in the pdf.
Before going on you have to find out which one is your problem. The 2nd is the problem you better ask this in a FOP forum as you have to solve it by changing the template.

Non english characters in DN cannot be retrieved
We are using Netscape directory server 4, protocal V3. We have a problem related to non-english characters appearing in RDN.
We publish to Ldap entries using the values from database. For example, we have pubulished an entry to Ldap, based on DB values, the entry should have a DN like: ou=Liege BELGIUM ... LGG1a, <other components of DN>. However, when we call netscape search API (search against uid attribute which does not have non-english characters), the search return the entry, but when further call getDN() method on the returned Ldap Entry, it only returns Li, instead of the complete DN value.
It seems the entry is corrupted in Ldap. I wanted to delete the corrupted entry and re create new one to test. I tried many ways, but none of them worked, I think it is because DN is corrupted, there is no key value to identify the Ldap entry for any operation(modify, delete).
You help and insights are much appreciated.
Thanks.
Han ShenLDAP uses the UTF8 encoding. You must store data in the directory using the UTF8 encoding. This includes DN values. This also means that if you want to be able to view the values in your native character set and font, you must use an application that can convert the UTF8 LDAP data back to the native character encoding. The directory console by default should work for LATIN-1 (ISO 8859) languages if the LOCALE is set correctly.

Non-English characters not displaying correctly - Serious Issue
My corporate email is on a Lotus Domino server with Lotus Traveler installed.
I have set my PlayBook (with OS 2) up to syncronize with the corporate email trough Active Sync (see http://alturl.com/qh3nn), which works perfectly.
I have however noticed that in some emails special non-english characters are displayed correctly but in some emails special non-english characters are displayed as a black diamond with a question mark inside.
This is of course a serious issue as most non English speaking countries use some special characters.
When trying to understand this problem how can I analyse the emails and see what character set is being used?
And of course better; has someone solved this?I am having the same problem. Is there any update available?

XML Dataset - Sorting non english characters
I've been playing with spry on a production site for more
than a year now. It's turned out to be a great solution in many
situations in spite of being a beta release.
I've found an issue concerning the sorting of text data (in
this case, coming from an XML file). You can find the example page
here:
http://mi.esan.edu.pe/elecciones/2008/electores/.
It's in Spanish but i guess you won't need a translation to
understand what's going on; besides you can always check the source
code if so you wish.
Works fine, though I still have some polishing to do. The
most important part of which is fixing the sort order that spry
gives me by default.
If you click on the "go to last page link" (»), located
below the table/dataset area, you will see that after letter Z come
the words, in this case last names, starting with letter A, but
with a tilde on them. I've devised a workaround, but that requires
creating an extra column with everything converted to only English
characters. My list is already 4000 records long and takes a few
seconds to load. It's definitely going to get much longer in the
years to come and I wish I will be able to give my users the
ability to sort by any column they wish. So, I can't just be adding
columns and duplicating data all around.
Is there a way to tell spry that Á should be sorted as
if it was A (not after A, not before it, and definitely not at the
end of the list), that Ñ should come right after N, and so on?
I will very much appreciate your answer.
Regards,
JoseThank you very much for your reply, Kin.
Sad thing that there wasn't a solution, though.
But, then I guess you must be aware that spry is being used
and will be used by a huge ammount of non English speaking clients
of Adobe. Namely those of us that have Spanish, French, German,
Japanese, Chinese or any other as their primary language. And all
of us would greatly appreciate a not so English-centered solution,
for such a commonplace feature as sorting is.
Given this situation, what chances do you think there are
that Adobe will be developping the necessary language specific
plugins for spry's sorting capabilities? And, how soon would that
be?
In the meantime, I will start trying to do it myself. It
would be fantastic if you coukd give me any hints on how to start,
javascript is not my strongest point but I think I can crack it out
and have a little fun while I'm at it, too.

How to Identify non-english characters in a Text
Hi Experts,
I have a text coming from KNA1-NAME1 which contains non-english characters / language at times. I want to identify them in my code so that I can skip them.
Can you please guide with some Command / FM that help to identify these non-english characters?
Regards,
NirmalHi,
I am fine with english characters A-Z, a-z or 0-9 or special characters. But it contains some chinese, japanes or non-english language characters which I dont want.
The logic explained by you above would expect me to list all the valid characters. Also it would be a performance constraint. Hence i wanted something as FM or standard procedure. Can we use ASCII somehow ?

Handling Non-English characters in the payload
Hi Gurus,
We are currently facing an issue in XI with Non-English characters. When we are trying to process Non-English characters in the payload , they are getting converted in to Junk characters at the receiver end. This scenario inbound to SAP ( File to Idoc scenario ) . Is there a way that Non-English characters can be handled in XI.

I have knowledge of some problems when showing some kind of chinese character when
dusplaying XML messages. If it's the case, check notes:

Predictive text non-English characters to be made ...
I just filled an enhancement request on this feature, please vote for it HERE:
Predictive text non-English characters to be made optional
The story is: while using predictive text for non-English languages (Polish in my case) the dictionary words are grammar correct which include special characters like: ą,ę,ć,ś,ż,ź,ó,ł etc. For texting (SMS) operators count these as 3 characters making a message much longer than it looks. Therefore I can tell you no one uses these characters while texting and people use EN only characters instead a,e,c,s,z,o,l... which makes using the predictive text useless for eg Polish language.
I'd like to have an option to switch using these non-en chars off for predicting text, which is grammatically not correct but in real life that's how people type.
So basically if there's an option to disable lang specific characters I would be getting an example suggestion of 'Prosze' instead of grammatically correct 'Proszę'. 'Prosze' is a 6 character word, 'Proszę' is a 5+3=8 character word. Considering a single SMS message a 300 chars, than it really makes a difference.
Simple solution would be to replace every char ą with a, ć with c, ó with o etc... in each word suggested for the ones who have this option enabled.HI,
You can write a code in PAI of main screen. there by using loop at screen you can make that field editable or disabled.
Code sample:
loop at screen.
****condition for value check
if screen-name = 'TEXT_EDIT_NAME'
screen-output = 1.
screen-input = 0.
modify screen.
endif.
endloop.
Hope this will help you. -
Encrypting non-English characters
Hi,
I have this application which has to do the following
Scenario (i)
- Read ENCODED string SE from Network Source NS1 (Native,Non-JAVA)
- Decode SE to SD using the same charset as NS1
- Apply some transformation to SD to get SD2
- Encode SD2 to get SE2 using the same charset as Network Source NS2
(Native, Non-JAVA)
- Send SE2 to NS2
- NS2 gets what it expects without any problems :))
Scenario (ii)
- Read ENCODED string SE from Network Source NS1 (Native,Non-JAVA)
- Decode SE to SD using the same charset as NS1
- Apply some transformation to SD to get SD2
- Get the bytes from SD2 as BSD2
- Encode BSD2 to get BSE2 using the same charset as Network Source NS2
(Native, Non-JAVA)
- Encrypt BSE2 to BSE2_Enc
- Send BSE2_Enc to NS2 (Native,Non-JAVA)
- NS2 does not gets what it expects :((
(It recieves English text OK but it gets ???? for non-English)
The charset being used is windows-1256 (at NS1,NS2 and my application)
Encryption is being done using BouncyCastle TwoFish w/ 256 bit keys
Reading/Writing from/to network is being done over SocketChannel
Get the bytes from SD2 as BSD2 => byte [] BSD2 = SD2.getBytes()It seems the non-Enlish characters are getting lost when I go SD2.getBytes()
and they get encrypted as 'lost-non-English characters' ;)
And when they get decrypted at NS2, they are displayed as 'lost-non-English
characters' :)) i.e. ??????? .. so on
Is there a way I can encrypt non-English plain text without losing information ?
(without having to implement a TwoFish engine in my application itself)1) Bytes are not characters. Characters are UNICODE
and have a byte representation defined by an encoding
scheme. It is usually wrong to use the default
encoding given by String.getBytes(). One should realy
use String.getByte(encoding) eg
"fred".getBytes("UTF-8");Awwllright ... got that :)) Thanks buddy
2) Not having access to your code makes it difficult
but make sure you are not converting encrypted bytes
to a String using new String(encrypted bytes); No .. I am not doing that.
3) Again, not having access to your code makes it
difficult , but when you display your Strings make
sure that you use a Font that has representations for
all the UNICODE characters you wish to display. It is
normal for any character that does not have a valid
glyph in a gien font to display as a box. That infrastructure exists and is working fine ... as I mentioned
this is working OK when plain text is being used.
The problem was with using the getBytes() rather than getBytes("windows-1256")
Its working now ... thanks alot .. again. I wonder how that never occurred to me.
