To deinterlace or not to deinterlace, is the question

hi!
i've imported a movie from my DV camera, and after i edit him i want to convert it to dvd and burn so that i can watch on any dvd player. having this should i deinterlace my movie? it's just that i'm afraid of not interlacing and then i get all those nasty lines (specialy because i will want do put it playing on mac's dvd player) :S, but on the other and if i do not need do deinterlace i do not decrease vertical resolution to my movie, which guarantees better results. what should i do?
sorry for my bad english...
cheers!

you wont need to deinterlace, you'll be fine just outputting to DVD

  • Battery or not battery, that is the question!

Ok, I’m a bit confuse, I read many post on Apple Support Forum, IpodLounge forum and some other stuff found on Google. Don’t worry, I did my homework and now I’m out of solution to ID my iPod problem.
Model: iPod Mini 4G 1st generation.
Basicly, it run out of battery overnight.
Please, don’t answer “Have you check for Alarm setting?” Like I said, I did my homework prior to write. Have a look:
I test the batteries as Apple recommends it (8 songs, repeat mode, etc…). They lasted for 3h30.
Than I tested it in intervals during the same day (9h15@10h30, 12h35@14h00, 15h25@16h40) for a total 4 hours.
    Than I started overnight tests:
    August 9th : 18h05@18h40, 20h25@21h35 (1h45).
On August 11th I tried to open it, but I had a no more charge message. I recharge on the 11th.
On the 14 of August, I did a Full Restore. Uploaded 4 new song (not the same that I originally tested but, but still...)
On the 15th, I took it back. Empty again. I recharge. Than played from 15h40@16h50. And I received a empty message again. I let it plug to the wall for charging all night.
On the 16th, I played form 14h25@15h15, than empty again.
    On the 2nd Recharge
On the 23rd played from 15h10@15h30, than empty again.
All my recharge last in average 5 hours.
Now I don’t know what to do.
Before I send it to apple for check up, I just want to make sure it is a battery issue.
If anyone experience same kind of problem, please advice.
    Thanks
    Alex

    Curiouser and curiouser....
While I don't have a clue regarding the reason or explanation, something strange just happened.  To summarize:
The 6-month-old T530 (with original battery) has for the last few weeks been turning off (hibernating, then shutting down) earlier and earlier, initially at around 20%.  Earlier this week it was shutting down with ~50% capacity remaining.
Yesterday I set it to charge to 100% (although it stopped at 99%) instead of the usual setting to charge to 92% or 95%.  After that charge it didn't shut down until it drained down to 15%, and when plugged back in it showed 15% remaining (where previously on resumption from hibernation it showed 6% remaining.)
So a battery gauge reset was apparently not needed.  (Or else this particular battery is exhibiting flaky behavior.)
I've read these batteries don't tolerate full discharge, which is not a problem because the computer will shut itself down before reaching a critical level (which currently appears to be 15% on this unit.)
I've read these batteries don't like a full charge and will live longer if only charged to 90-95%.
I've also read that the battery should be fully charged to 100% about every 3 months to improve it's longevity.  Based on current experience I believe I will set my charge threshold to start charging at 80% and stop at 90 or 92 or 95% (periodically changing it) and for one cycle every 2-3 months run it to 100% charge.
(I'll keep a close watch on things for the next few cycles and post an update if anything changes.)

  • Portal or Not Portal - That is the question

    Hello All!
We currently have Oracle Portal running our intranet and it's working fine. We are now looking at revamping our corporate site. Portal seems to be limiting as far as graphical layout control. I've thought about building the site in HTML. I'd like to build some editing pages in Portal that will allow our directors to manage content and then utilize PHP to connect to the database to get the content and display it. Has anyone done this? Is this a kosher idea or would someone suggest otherwise?
    Thanks!
    Jason

    Hello Jason
Portal seems to be limiting as far as graphical layout control. In you context, you want to revamp an existing web site, UI template will give you a complete flexibility for the design of you page.
I am not sure to see the link between the site migration and "I'd like to build some editing pages..."
You want to edit/publish content or application data ?
    - in the case of the content the OracleAS Portal Content Management features should provide you all the key features you can need. I do not think that is a good idea to redevelop it. OracleAS Portal CMS allow you to upload files, enter content, powerful categorization, translation, search, workflow approval .. and more
    - in the case of application data, meaning: you want to create an 'application' inside portal, you can do it using the Portal Developer Kit that allow you to develop portlets using Java or PL/SQL. The Java implementation is running inside a J2EE Container so you'll be able to develop any business logic, and data access you need using the J2EE components (EJB, JMS, Web Services and so on)
I think you should tale time on http://portalcenter.oracle.com to see the different features that OracleAS portal, and OracleAS in general will give you... and save you to reeinvent the wheel.

  • To have an app killer or not to, that is the question

Hey guys. I have a quick question. May sound dumb or may have already been asked but i can't find it. The question being, is it safe to use an application killer or not. I understand that some programs must stay running (have done that much research.) But it is safe to have an app killer and kill simple apps such as facebook, myspace, yahoo messenger, etc. I am currently using the advance task killer free version. I just don't want to do anything to harm anything such as the phones functioning. Thanks in advance for the help.

It all depends on what you want out of your phone. If you want long battery life, then don't install a task killer. If you want faster application response (from already running apps, i.e. Internet browser) that dynamically require more and more memory as you use it, then install a task killer and configure it to only stop apps that don't auto-start. I've found that some apps like mail, gmail, browser, games, run much snappier if the underlying OS isn't busy having to stop other apps and free other resources. Ironically, none of these issues are new, Mainframe, host based, virtual, and cloud computing developers have been dealing with shared resource issues for decades. Silly android devs, they think they've discovered something new.

  • TurBo or Not TurBo:  That is the Question

Good morning (or 'afternoon to my European consultants).
In my search for a cheap ISP (related thread
i NetZero and The Browser Question
still active and needed), I was steered to FasterMac.net, which claims that for a few dollars more than their standard product, they'll have me surfing along at warp speed. Here's how they explain it:
    i TurboMac Dial-Up Service combines FasterMac.net Unlimited Dial-Up
i services with the TurboMac Web Accelerator. TurboMac powered by
i SlipStream compresses, optimizes and streamlines web content after it
i leaves the server, providing a dramatic improvement in web-surfing speed,
i which is important for dial-up users who either don't have access to high-
i speed cable or DSL services, or don't want to pay the higher prices charged
i for broadband services. Customers surfing the Internet with these
i technologies will find that web pages download up to six times faster than
    i traditional dialup.
Sounds good to me, but . . .
Is it too good to be true? Does web accelerator technology really work? Does it change one's web experience dramatically enough to justify additional monthly expense? If indeed the technology is valid, do the benefits apply no matter which browser one uses?
I await your answers. (I love it when you talk tech to me.)
b And in case you missed the Awards Show last night:
BonnieB was presented the prestigious Apple Discussions Level 1 Award!!!!
    i "Gosh, (blush) I never thought I'd win, so I didn't prepare a speech . . . but
i . . . I want to thank the Apple Academy, and mostly all the Discussion
i Members who made this possible. You know who you are, and I'll never
i forget you. Let's do lunch. Kisses!"

On the issue of the accelerator-type services, there are some situations where the 'up to 5 times faster....' advertising is true. The problem is that it is not something you can count on in advance. If your browsing habits fit the nature of the caching and compressing activities of the ISP, then you'll notice an improvment, if not, then what you'll ntoice would be rather inconsistent - sometimes faster, sometimes not. Whether it's worth it is up to you and in part depends on how much web browsing you do and how impatient you get, but with the limit placed by the nature of dialup, I suspect many people who find it a benefit to begin with may actually get used to it and not see the advantages after a bit of use.
As to browsers - I used Safari right from the date Apple released it. Back then it was genuinely fast and a refreshing change from all (or at least many) of the other browsers that had tended to get more and more bloated and less and less responsive. The problem is that Safari is now pretty much in the same boat - it is far slower than it used to be. I have an old G4 that I use to boot into various version sof MacOS, and Safari running under a late variation of Jaguar is markedly more responsive and draws pages noticably faster than Safari running under Tiger.
In addition, Safari has had some memory issues (it has grabbed increasing amounts of system memory as you leave it running, even if it's not active), resulting in the system slowing down overall. Quitting Safari and restarting resolves this, but was nuisance enough that I looked around for an alternative.
I tried Firefox and didn't like it. It's clunky and not particularly responsive either. I've tried others such as Opera, and usually get the feeling that the authors have made it different just to BE different. Ultimately, I now use Shiira - a browser that uses my Safari bookmarks and which was based on the same rendering engine with the intention of making a browser that was what Safari used to be. It's a bit quirky, but works well, and behaves itself in all the ways I want a browser to behave!
If you want to try it, you can find it on www.versiontracker.com

i recently purchased a new iphone 5 and it has locked me out from my account because i do not know my security questions, can i transfer the money into a new account or change my questions... i have been locked out from changing my password and other things for the next 8 hours

    Hello there, hcheslynn.
The following Knowledge Base article provides a great resource for what to do next after changing your Apple ID:
Apple ID: What to do after you change your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5796
    Particularly for your case:
    iCloud
iOS 6 and later: Go to Settings > iCloud.
If you signed out before changing your Apple ID, enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download to your device.
If you're still signed in with your previous Apple ID:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account. Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked to confirm that you want to delete data from your device. To confirm, tap Delete. (If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, you'll be asked to enter the password for your previous Apple ID. Enter the password, then tap Turn Off.) The data will be deleted from your device, but not from iCloud.
Enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download again to your device.
If you still get prompted for your old Apple ID's password, the following article provides some additional troubleshooting steps:

  • To DD-WRT or not to, that is the question!

I just bought the WRT610N (on sale for $145 =)) and I see that version 2 of this router is now supported for DD-WRT
My set up is downloading torrents from my Windows Home Server and I stream video to my Popcorn Hour from that machine as well. I then play XBox 360 online and stream music from my Macbook Pro to my Apple TV.
That's pretty much it for the bandwidth suckers in my house. I am upgrading from a WRT310N (it died) that had DD-WRT. I had put DD-WRT on this router because I had a Macbook that would drop connection 50% of the time till I put DD-WRT on but I found I have to unplug my WHS every time I want to play some XBox Live even after I've setup QoS.
This router has a technology called "Media Optimized Network technology" (DLink calls theirs "HD Fuel") I am hoping that this will work better then the QoS on DD-WRT.
So my main result is, I want to be able to play XBox Live and stream videos to my pch with out having to unplug the WHS.
If you have any experience with the WRT610v2 with either firmwares or have some guidance on how to make this work, I would be very appreciative.
    Thanks a lot.
    Coasttech.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I had all the ports open and had the xbox in the DMZ. Still did not work.
I have had the 610 for a day now and can notice a big difference in performance. I am happy so far but like I said it has been a day. I miss the bandwidth logging and a way better status page with all sorts of good info that DD-WRT does and a bunch of other stuff. I wish linksys would not be so lame and put some better features in there routers. I have been looking at pretty much the same ui from the early 2000's, time to change!!

  • WiFi or not WiFi this is the question

i will try and keep this as short as possible but that could be difficult
over the last 2 years ive had quite a lot of problems with steady 5-6mb dropping to 0.001mb, phone line dying for upto 11 days at a time etc etc
strange thing was that every time i was talking to indian call centre the speed would be normal but as soon as i hung up it would drop to 0.001 again. of course every time i had to go through the same tests and was told there was nothing wrong and i would have to pay for an engineer.
after 9 days i was escalated to section 2 in the uk. they advised moving my hub from my wired connection upstairs (extension cable installed by bt) and plugging into the master test socket downstairs.
after 48 hours of testing it turned out there was a board out at the exchange and also my IP kept resetting. thinking all was fine i took the hub back upstairs again and was back to 0.001mb
they advised to leave it plugged in downstairs and for the last 6 months its been working fine at a steady 5-6mb.
we are now upto date.  yesterday i had infinity 2 installed.
engineer knocked and said he was off to the junction box to wire me in, yippee i thought.
came back 10 minutes later and phone and line was dead. said he could have broken something and he would have to call bt. 15 minutes later it turned out the socket that was reserved for me was damaged but luckily they had 1 spare so he wired me up.
he came back to the house. plugged in the hub next to the main socket downstairs and said could i test internet before he left.
i explained that i was told by bt when i ordered and as stated in the pre install email "Your engineer can run an Ethernet extension cable (up to 30 metres long) from where you can plug in your Hub and back to your phone master socket".
reason i wanted the hub back in my office upstairs was so i could get a wired connection for gaming which is always better than wifi and also my skyHD for on demand.
"oh we dont do any work or wiring in the house and why would you want it anyway as the longer the cable the less speed you will get. best to leave it next to socket".
wasnt happy but went with the flow as he was in such a hurry to leave.
    now my question is:
which option would lose me the most speed.
running a cable up one flight of stairs and having my laptop and sky box plugged straight into the hub.
or running on continuous WiFi with the hub downstairs and me upstairs.
other neighbours including a bt engineer are getting roughly 60-70mb
my estimate from bt, download 72-80mb and upload 19.9-20mb
i know it takes a couple of days for it to settle down but after various speed tests using bt wholesale i am getting:
yesterday after 3 hours installed on wifi 53.26 down and 15.27 up.
3 hours later wifi 35.26 down and 10.37 up
today wired downstairs 53.32 down 14.25 up
wifi upstairs 5 minutes later 38.82 down 13.47 up
the numbers sure do look a lot better than i was previously getting but strangely enough it doesnt seem as fast when opening websites. i have a very fast professional gaming laptop so its defo not that slowing things down.
should i stick with what ive got and hope the speeds go back up (after reading a lot of posts on here im not holding my breath) or should i follow it up with our friends in india and ask for the ethernet cable to be installed.
thanks in advance for any feedback and sorry once again for the long post.
    edit:
    image 1 wifi
    image 2 wired
image 3 five minutes later wifi

Let it settle for a couple of days and see what you are getting then.
My wired download speed on my gaming desktop is 61(ish) and 17.5 up. If I run the same test on my wireless connection on my (aging) Alienware laptop I get 55 down and 17 up, so for me it's no real difference.
The main thing is your ping, the download speed is only half the story. A year ago I was on standard ADSL with a download of 6-7 and a ping of 17ms, now I am on 55-60 down with a 29ms ping, and haven't noticed any difference playing titles such as BF3 online.
Of interest is I had reason to call on the OR engineers last week to sort out an issue, and after they looked at my installation ran a wire externally from where the phone line came into my property, up to where my hub was, thus making my 'master' socket indeed the true master - not an extension with a master faceplate on it.

  • To 24p or not 24p that is the question...

    Hey,
Is it better to create a 24p DVD over a 29.97 one? I shot my feature in 24p. I shot it actually in 24p Advanced in Letterbox mode. Used the Panasonic DVX100 original.
    Ideas? Suggestions?

  • To sleep or not sleep, that is the question (heat vs maintenance)

I have two iMacs, both running Mountain Lion:
    (1) An older iMac 24-inch (mid-2007).
    (2) A newer iMac 20.5-inch (2009). This is my main machine.
Because I heard it's good for keeping the system up-to-date I never let my newer iMac sleep. I just let the display sleep. Also, at 3:30 am every day my backup software (CCC) creates an incremental clone on an external drive.
But since it's summer, I'm concerned about temperatures. I notice the old iMac is cools in the morning, while the newer Mac is warm.
What do most people do? Let their iMacs sleep at night? I haven't - for years now.
    Thanks,
    doug

Oh, you just reminded me of another reason not to turn it off. When I'm away I occasionally need to access it with LogMeIn.
LogMeIn might wake it up from sleep though...

  • IOS upgrade or not upgrade, that is the question...

Everytime I upgrade my iPad i add a new problem...
Upgraded to iOS 6 and lost 3G connectivity. At best an edge connection, for a limited time. Spends most of the time seeking network. It is not a carrier or location based issue since my iPhone uses the same carrier and words just fine.
Upgraded  to 6.0.1 hoping to fix the issue and lost streaming from iPad to Apple tv...
My other iPad, fortunately with iOS 5.1.1 works just fine.
Am I the only one experiencing the issues?

No, but you are in a minority. And I have not heard of streaming issues with the latest update.

  • To Popup Or Not To, That Is The Question

Within my application, there is a page 3 & 4.
Page 3 is essentially a entry form with about 30 or so items. The 1st 4 items are Select Lists. Each Select List is a child from the prior. They are fed through a AJAX Shared Process & Item, via Javascript. The 1st Select item is populated by a SQL Query within the Source, upon load. As each Select List is changed, a onchange Javascript Function triggers. This is how the other 3 Selects get populated. There is a PREVIEW button on the bottom of the page, to launch Page 4.
Page 4 is the data from Page 3's items, populated into a pure HTML page; to make a nice formatted Summary Page for previewing and printing. There is a EDIT button on the bottom of the page, to Branch back to page 3. There is also a SUBMIT button, to INSERT the data into a TABLE.
My dilemma lies in how to get Page 3's data to Page 4, and being able to Branch Back. Here is what I've tried with no success...
    1) I created a Branch, on Page 3, to Page 4. All of Page 3's item values carried over perfectly, and I was able to reference them within the HTML. If there was a mistake, you could click the EDIT button and Branch back to Page 3. All of the values in Page 3 would be the same, except for the Select Lists. Since Page 3 was re-loaded, the first Select List was re-populated. This triggered the other 3 Select Lists to re-populate as well. I couldn't figure out how to bypass the Onload event for Page 3.
    2) I figured that a Popup might solve this problem. A user could just close the Popup Page 4 if they wanted to EDIT, and Page 3 would still be the same; since it was never re-directed. I used the Javascipt Popup function listed in the forums. Page 4 popped up just fine, but none of Page 3's Item values went to Page 4. I then tried to pass the values through the URL link (::NO::ITEMS,VALUES). This didn't work (probably due to the URL length). I could pass a few values, but not all.
    3) I tried to make a Branch to a new window, within the URL Link. (URL' target='_Blank, URL target=_Blank', URL' tareget='_New, and probably 100 other combinations). None of these worked.
    4) I tried to figure out how a Branch could pass all values, and a URL could not. I still don't know why this is. I couldn't even locate the Branch within the Source Code.
    5) I tried to figure out how to run a Branch or Process from the Javascript popup function. I couldn't figure that out either.
I'm not sure what other angle to approach this. This is my dilemma. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
P.S. One other frustration I had, which I've had a few times before... All of a sudden things were being populated incorrectly and with the wrong data. I spent hours dissecting my app, and checking the Queries. I even tried putting in static values, and somehow it displayed something different. I re-wrote several parts of my app, with the same results. After practically being ready to throw my computer out the window, I decided to Sign out and back into APEX. Magically everything worked correctly like it should. What the $%#@. Go figure.

"Are there any disadvantages to having the iPod engraved besides not being able to return it?"
The one's that spring to mind are the fact that should you need to return it under the warranty, then it may well take a little longer to be replaced if you want another nano with the same engraving. And selling it. Should you ever wish to sell it at a later date, it may not have the same resale value with engraving on it.
And nano is not flagged as misspelled with my spell check.

  • Connected or not connected that is the question

I have had 4g for two weeks now and nothing but problems.  When connecting through VZA Manager it will show connected but I have no internet.  DNS will resolve fine but unable to ping and of course connect to anything. Why show connected if its not getting out???
Sometime hitting disconnect and connecting back will fix the issue other times its a good 15 to 20 mins before connecting.  Once Im connecting It works great!  Great speed ping for what 10 15 mins before the hole process starts over.     I am wishing I researched a little more before upgrading the two unlimited 3g devices I had.  Very disappointed !!

    I have windows 7 Enterprise
1st I do not see Activation under options.  Ive not seen that since we got the 4g card and i updated the VZ access manager
2nd   I tried to delete the connection but I still connect to the networks that do not work
3rd    OMG did creating the apn screw my card up after connecting it lasted about 15 secs and still grabbed the network that is not working for me.  When i went back to VZ manager 4g would drop and 3g would come up card would power off and started getting wmc604 error  .

  • Authorized/Not authorized, that is the question

My logic board was replaced last month and now Itunes is saying my computer is not authorized.  When I type in my info to authorize it says it is already authorized, then comes up with the window saying it isn't authorized again.  I want to sync my iphone but it is threatening to discard the 27 Apps it thinks I'm not authorized to have!

    Hey there Byron,
It sounds like you need to authorize the computer to get it to download your iBook to the computer. This article shows how to authorize your computer using iTunes, but the process is the same for iBooks:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
To authorize a computer using your Apple ID
    Open iTunes
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer. (In earlier versions of iTunes, access this option from the Advanced menu).
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
