Tomcat on Linux with10g using OCI Client UnsatisfiedLinkError: no ocijdbc10

I'm having some issues configuring Tomcat with a 10g JDBC driver under Linux using the OCI thick client. When I attempt to get a database connection I get the following:
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no ocijdbc10 in java.library.path
     java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(Unknown Source)
     java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Unknown Source)

     org.springframework.jdbc.object.SqlQuery.execute(SqlQuery.java:114)
     org.springframework.jdbc.object.SqlQuery.execute(SqlQuery.java:201)
Now I've seen other instances of the above and they basically come down to making sure that the ojdbc14.jar file is in my classpath, and I thought I had that covered.
Here's everything I've done:
added ojdbc14.jar to $TOMCAT_HOME/common/endorsed
added ojdbc14.jar to $TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib
verified that ORACLE_HOME is defined: /app/oracle/product/10.1.0/client_1
verified that LD_LIBRARY_PATH is defined: /app/oracle/product/10.1.0/client_1/lib
added the following to the java commandline for Tomcat:
-Djava.library.path="$ORACLE_HOME"
the above -Djava.library.path didn't work so made the following change (which still didn't work)
-Djava.library.path="$ORACLE_HOME"/lib
my PATH variable includes both $ORACLE_HOME and $ORACLE_HOME/lib
echo $PATH:
/app/oracle/product/10.1.0/client_1:/app/oracle/product/10.1.0/client_1/lib
I have no idea what else I am missing or if my Oracle client installation is just hosed.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Use the thin driver.

  • Memory leak using 10.2.0.3 OCI client on Solaris

    Hi,
    We are using OCI client libraries to connect our C++ program to the Oracle Database. The program does a lot of selects, inserts and SP calls.
    Oracle client and Oracle server both are 10.2.0.3.
    We have been observing a memory leak of 4M bytes in the C++ program every few minutes since last few days. On debugging through Purify, libumem, and Sun Studio 12, we finally managed to narrow down the problem to the Oracle client library OCI calls.
    The Sun Studio leak check shows the following -
    Leak #37, Instances = 157, Bytes Leaked = 655004

    A select is executed, a resultset is fetched and the resultset is immeidately closed. The same piece of code has been running at various production systems without any problems. Most of the other sites are either 10.2.0.4 or 9i.
    On searching Metalink and various other forums, I found similar issues faced in 10.2.0.1.
    Could someone advise if there are any bugs corresponding to this which have been closed. Would upgrading to 10.2.0.4 solve the problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Apparently a similar issue is being discussed over here:

  • XMLType inputstream on OCI client

    Hi all, I have a problem using XMLType.createXML in java to create a XMLType to use as parameter in a stored procedure using OCI client (it works with thin client).
    my environment (sorry if I missed something!):
    Oracle db 11.1 on server, Java 1.6 and OCI client 11.1 on Windows on client.
    In my Eclipse project I included the following jars:
    \jdbc\lib\ojdbc6.jar
    \jlib\orai18n.jar
    \RDBMS\jlib\xdb.jar
    \LIB\xmlparserv2.jar
    the java code snippet for calling the stored procedure using the input stream:
    public String putgetXMLInputStream(File testFile) throws SQLException, FileNotFoundException, UnsupportedEncodingException
         // create the input stream from the file containing XML
         InputStream br = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(testFile));
    // this statement was tested with no value for "kind" parameter and with these two value too
         // "oracle.xml.parser.XMLDocument.THICK"
         // "oracle.xml.parser.XMLDocument.THIN"
         XMLType xmlDoc = XMLType.createXML(connection, br);
         // set the statement
         CallableStatement cs;
         cs = connection.prepareCall("{?=call MYPACKAGE.TESTUPLOAD(?)}");
    cs.registerOutParameter(1, OracleTypes.VARCHAR);
         cs.setObject(2, xmlDoc);
    // execute the statement
         cs.execute();
         // return the string
         return cs.getString(1);
    same code with string:
    public String putgetXMLString(File testFile) throws SQLException, FileNotFoundException, UnsupportedEncodingException, IOException
         StringBuilder contents = new StringBuilder();
         try {
         //use buffering, reading one line at a time
         //FileReader always assumes default encoding is OK!
         BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(aFile));
         try {
              String line = null; //not declared within while loop
              * readLine is a bit quirky :
              * it returns the content of a line MINUS the newline.
              * it returns null only for the END of the stream.
              * it returns an empty String if two newlines appear in a row.
              while (( line = input.readLine()) != null){
              contents.append(line);
              contents.append(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
         } finally {
         input.close();
         XMLType xmlDoc = XMLType.createXML(connection, contents.toString());
         // set the statement
         CallableStatement cs;
         cs = connection.prepareCall("{?=call MYPACKAGE.TESTUPLOAD(?)}");
    cs.registerOutParameter(1, OracleTypes.VARCHAR);
         cs.setObject(2, xmlDoc);
    // execute the statement
         cs.execute();
         // return the string
         return cs.getString(1);
    the java code snippet for establish the database connection (I know that with java 1.6 the registerDriver is not
    required, I both tested with and without driver registering and it works in the same way):
    // connection string: comment as required
    // connection string for thin client
    // String connectionString = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@mydbserver:1521:mydb";
    // connection string for oci
    String connectionString = "jdbc:oracle:oci8:@mydbserver:1521:mydb";
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Connection conn =DriverManager.getConnection( connectionString, "john", "tiger");
    DatabaseMetaData meta = conn.getMetaData();
    System.out.println("Driver JDBC: " + meta.getDriverVersion());
    The PL/SQL called by java:
    FUNCTION TESTUPLOAD (pDoc IN XMLTYPE) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS
    msgout VARCHAR2(24000);
    doc DBMS_XMLDOM.DOMDocument;
    rootnode DBMS_XMLDOM.DOMNode;
    fchild DBMS_XMLDOM.DOMNode;
    attr1 VARCHAR2(20);
    ns VARCHAR2(200);
    BEGIN
    ns := 'xmlns="http://www.myweb.it/static/xml/def/0.6/ns1.html" xmlns:si="http://www.myweb.it/static/xml/def/0.6/si.html"';
    doc := DBMS_XMLDOM.newDOMDocument(pDoc);
    rootnode := dbms_xmldom.makeNode(doc);
    fchild := DBMS_XMLDOM.GETFIRSTCHILD(rootnode);
    -- dom text
    DBMS_XMLDOM.WRITETOBUFFER(rootnode, msgout);
    -- attribute value
    dbms_xslprocessor.valueOf(rootnode,'/DOC/@TYPENO',attr1, ns );
    -- node name of rootnode first child
    return '(' || attr2 || ' - ' || DBMS_XMLDOM.GETNODENAME(fchild) || ') ' || msgout;
    END TESTUPLOAD;
    Thus, the expected result is a returned varchar2 containing the value of the attribute as per XPath, the name of first child node
    and the whole text of dom.
    This work as expected connecting via OCI and Thin client if I create the XML starting from a string, and only with Thin client if
    I adopt the input stream approach. If I use the input stream with OCI client, no error message is displayed, and no value are provided
    for attribute or fchild name, but the dom text is returned.
    I made test with different charset encoding for the original file (UTF-8, ISO-8859-1, with endofline in windows and linux style).
    What I noticed is that in case of string and input stream with Thin client some kind of parsing occours: the returned text show some
    special characters (i.e. double quote) replaced by html entity and the charset encoding in <?xml tag replaced with ISO-8859-1, more over
    the returned xml is well indented.
    I'm sure that I'm missing something :-)
    Any hints?
    TIA

    visit the javasoft.com (sun site) for tutorials and training on all of the technologies you mentioned.
    after understanding them, then review the oracle java roadmap found on technet.oracle.com --> technologies --> java to get an oracle perspective.
    then ask the oracle technology specific questions you have.

  • Unable to connect to Oracle using OCI Drivers on Linux

    Hi Everyone!
    I am facing a peculiar issue while using Instant Client on Linux ( 64Bit ) running on Red Hat 4.1.
    I have downloaded the instant client version 10.2.0.3(.zip) .so files from the below URL
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/htdocs/linuxx86_64soft.html
    UPloaded all the files to a directory under /opt and changed the .bash_profile file, the latest content looks like
    ORACLE_HOME=/opt/instantclient_10_2
    export ORACLE_HOME
    PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME
    export PATH
    TNS_ADMIN=/opt/instantclient_10_2

    As i have downloaded the Sqlplus utility as well, i am able to connect to the Oracle FARM via sqlplus.
    On the other hand, i am unable to connect to the same database via the application. It constantly gives me the following exception,

    I have used the classes12.jar and ojdbc.jar which came with the download and nothing seems to work. A bit surprising when sqlplus works and not the application. I suspect there could be an issue with the driver class. I have been struggling to figure this out for days now...
    Can anyone please share their thoughts if something similar was observed earlier please.
    Any quick help will highly be appreciated.

    ORACLE_HOME=/opt/instantclient_10_2
    export ORACLE_HOMEYou don't set ORACLE_HOME with Instant Client.
    PATH=$PATH:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    export PATHThis is unnecessary.
    CLASSPATH=/opt/instantclient_10_2:/opt/instantclient_10_2/ojdbc.jar
    export CLASSPATHThis is wrong.
    It should be:
    CLASSPATH=/opt/instantclient_10_2/ojdbc14.jar:<whatever else you need there>
    Java.library.path=/opt/instantclient_10_2
    export Java.library.pathThis is useless; java.library.path is not an environment variable.
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no ocijdbc10 in java.library.pathThe case is pretty clear. You want to use the OCI driver (your URL starts with "jdbc:oracle:oci:"), so the Java Virtual Machine is looking for libocijdbc10.so in the Java library path but cannot find it.
    What is also clear is that the program does not use the CLASSPATH environment variable you set, because then it would never have found the Oracle Driver.
    So it seems that your program is ignoring the environment you set (which would explain why it also ignores LD_LIBRARY_PATH which you set correctly).
    You must have the environment variables set and exported in the shell that starts the "java" executable.
    Also, check that there is no other ojdbc14.jar on this machine (use "find").
    To help you debug your problem, let me explain how Sun Java sets Java library path on Linux:
    - If you start java with "java -Djava.library.path=/some/dir:/other/dir ...", the Java library path is set to exactly that value.
    - If you do not specify -Djava.library.path, the Java library path is taken from the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
    - Directories listed in /etc/ld.so.conf have no influence on the Java library path (which gave me quite a headache in the beginning).
    Do you really need the OCI Driver? If you can do with the Thin Driver (i.e., use an URL that starts with "jdbc:oracle:thin:") you don't need any shared libraries at all.
    Yours,
    Laurenz Albe

  • Steps to Connect remote Oracle Server using OCi C in Linux

    Hi !

    I want to connect oracle server through my C application from Oracle Client Machine
    can anyone help me in this issue ?

    Sounds like you did not specify your database name. Or you database name is hard-coded.
    Can you show us the code?
    Is your TNSNAMES.ORA set up correctly?
    Also, you did not specify any error messages or anything. Are you checking the result codes after any functions?

    Hi Vishnu
    Looks like a classloader issue. BEA class loader is very tricky. Any jar added manually in classpath, will end up loading only those classes. Any imports that we have in any of those classes do not get loaded. Anyhow, coming to your point, add classes12.jar inside your portal web project Web-Inf/lib folder and see if that helps. Usually thats where we put all the JARs for 8.1 SPxx applications. If this still breaks, then remove the jar from web-inf/lib folder and add under your portal app App-Inf/lib folder. First try with app-inf/lib folder having this jar. If not then with web-inf/lib. Basically web-inf is specific to that web app only. If you have a different app having this jdbc code, then put under app-inf/lib folder. Make sure that you remove the classes12.jar that you added in classpath either in env variable or in setdomainenv.cmd file.
    When weblogic uses native OCI Drivers, it refers to jars at this location: ....\beawlp814\weblogic81\server\ext\jdbc\oracle\10g or 9g. Try using one of these jars and see if that works. Most of the times I used these jars only for oracle specific native drivers.
    Word of caution. Try to use Connection Pool and a DataSource created in weblogic console for your jdbc code. This Datasource can still use the Oracle drivers that you want (instead of BEA Weblogic wrapper oci drivers) located in above location. Use JNDI Lookup and get Datasource and then connection. This is more recommended approach with many advantages then using DriverManager approach..

  • Freqent JVM crash when using OCI

    I have been experiencing the following JVM crashes frequently. We are using OCI to access database because of failover ability, OS is Suse 9. Any help is appreciated. Here's the log file.
    Thank you.

    You should confirm that you can connect to the DB with a simple Java class using the url that the code you posted is using.
    This will show that the OCI client is installed and executing properly. If you can't connect externally you will need to fix that first.
    Is the Oracle client installed on the same machine the JDBC code is running on?

  • SQL Developer 3.2 crashes with java error when using OCI/Thick Driver

    I just installed SQL Developer 3.2 on my linux desktop. SQL Developer crashes with a java error when I select a database from the object tree.
    When I check Use OCI/Thick driver the application will crash when I navigate to the tree and open a database.
    The app does not crash then I have Use OCI/Thick driver unchecked.
    Here are some details of my environment:

    I also had the problem of SQL Developer crashing when using OCI/Thick driver but I've managed to solve it. My configuration is:
    - Windows 64-bit
    - Java 64-bit (1.6.0.34)
    - SQL Developer 3.2.09 64-bit
    - OCI Instant client 11.2.0.3 64-bit (without installation).
    The thing that solved the problem was copying two files, ojdbc5.jar and ojdbc6.jar, from Instant client installation folder to JAVA_HOME/lib/ext folder+.
    After that, I haven't had a single crash or error message.
    The same trick that solved the problem on 64-bit installation also solved the problem on another windows computer with 32-bit SQL Developer installation.

  • Error with OCI Client.

    Hi,
    I have an server in which we use Tomcat as application server and apache as web server. and also we use Oracle instant client in the same server as an OCI client. We use instant client for connection pooling.
    And very frequently we are getting the below mentioned error. We suspect that this error is due to Oracle instant client.
    The version of Oracle Instant client is 10.2.0.4-1 and Hardware RAM capacity is 4 GB and we have allocated 1280 MB RAM for Tomcat application.
    ERROR_

    OCI-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 1036 bytes (koh dur heap d,kadaih image)
    Please suggest us with a better solution for this issue.
    Regards,
    Potri Raaja.M.

    That error means that Oracle is not allowed to allocate the memory by the operating system.
    This is not a bug of Oracle; the problem must be somewhere else.
    - How much memory has the process allocated when it produces this error?
    - Did you set the per-process memory limits of the operating system high enough?
    - Did you start the Java Virtual Machine with a sufficient maximal stack size?
    If the problem only occurs after a longer runtime, you might also consider the
    possibility that your code has a memory leak.

    Laurenz Albe

  • Help: Connecting Tomcat to CA-IDMS Using JDBC Type 4 Drivers (JNDI)

    Hi there,
    I have a rather interesting / complex problem......creating a connection to CA-IDMS from Tomcat using JDBC type 4 drivers (CA provide the type 4 driver).
    We have a zSeries 9 IBM mainframe running CA-IDMS r16.1, and I need to connect to the IDMS from Tomcat (running on Linux) using the JDBC Type 4 drivers provided by CA.
    At this stage I am struggling with the actual setup and configuration of Tomcat’s server.xml and web.xml files. These are the files where the JDBC configuration is set (I think). I have to setup the CA-IDMS part of the configuration, but that is a different problem. Basically there is a TCP/IP listener on the IDMS, waiting for incoming connections from the JDBC type 4 driver.
    I set up a Tomcat to MySQL connection using MySQL Connector / J, which is a similar kind of process to what I am trying to achieve with IDMS. MySQL connector / J came with a jar file which is placed in Tomcat’s lib folder, and then the JDBC setup for the web application is created in Tomcat's server.xml and web.xml files. You can then connect to the MySQL database using JSP and the configured JDBC driver / connection. The CA-IDMS Server comes with an idmsjdbc.jar file, which I think is the JDBC typr 4 driver. I think it needs to be placed in the Tomcat /lib folder, but I don’t know how to set up the configuration.
    There is a JDBC DriverManager which allows JDBC drivers to connect to CA-IDMS. The DriverManager recognises the following syntax:
    jdbc:idms://hostname:port/database
    This allows the JDBC driver running within Tomcat to connect to the IDMS which is running on the IDM mainframe. CA IDMS r16 supports direct connections from the Type 4 JDBC driver to the Central Version on IDMS. "hostname" is the DNS name or IP address of the machine where the CV is running, and "port" is the IP port that was specified for the listener PTERM (setup on the IDMS side).
    There is a caidms.properties file for the JDBC driver, which is used to specify user ID, password, and optional accounting information. It can also be used to specify physical connection information, allowing an application to connect to a CA-IDMS database without requiring the definition of an ODBC style data source. However, I don’t know where to place this file within the Tomcat setup.
    There is also an IdmsDataSource class. I don’t know where to configure this or how to set it up; the CA-IDMS Server manual states the following:
    This class implements the JDBC DataSource interface. It is used with an application server (Tomcat) providing Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) naming service to establish a connection to a CA IDMS database. IdmsDataSource properties conform to the Java Beans naming conventions and are implicitly defined by public “setter” and “getter” methods. For example, the “description” property, which is required for all DataSource implementations, is set using the setDescription(String) method. The application server may use the java.lang.reflection methods to discover DataSource properties and provide an interface to set them, or may simply require that they are defined in some configuration file. IdmsDataSource properties are used to specify the connection parameters. These properties are the equivalent of the DriverPropertyInfo attributes described in the previous section and can be used to completely define the parameters needed to connect to a database. Like a URL, an IdmsDataSource object can also reference an “ODBC” style data source name, where the connection parameters are defined in the configuration file on Linux.
    Is there anyone that can try to point me in the right direction to setting up the JDBC connection? I am totally new to Java and so the instructions are not making much sense at the moment. Any help, hints, tips…..anything will be greatly appreciated as I have just hit a brick wall here. I can't find much to do with setting up the CA-IDMS Server JDBC type 4 driver online either....if anyone can point me to some resources that would also be extremely useful.
    Kind regards
    Jp

    You say you've managed to get the JDBC driver working
    in an application but not in a JSP. You also say that
    the error you get is
    "com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver".
    I'd be willing to bet that the exception that you have
    got is a ClassNotFoundException. I.E. your application
    server hasn't found the JDBC driver classes. The
    application server probably doesn't use your current
    CLASSPATH to look for classes. It will be setup within
    the application server in some way and you'll need to
    check your app server documentation to see how it is
    done.
    Try replacing
    e.printStackTrace();with
    e.printStackTrace(out);to get a full stack trace of your error.
    ColTried it. Got this error when I tried to run the JSP.
    Incompatible type for method. Can't convert javax.servlet.jsp.JspWriter to java.io.PrintWriter.
              e.printStackTrace(out);
    I'm currently using Apache Tomcat 4.0.3 as my JSP/Servlet Container.
    I'm also using Type 4 MS SQL Server 2000 JDBC driver version 2.0 on my NT4.0 Server.
    Do I need to set my JDBC driver in my container? if so, how do I do that?

  • "ocijdbc9.dll: Can't find dependent libraries" error using OCI in 902

    Trying to use JDBC OCI driver in 9.0.2 OC4J to connect to a 9.2.0.2 DB. Environment set appropriately (per "Data Sources" guide) to use oci jars and dlls in 9.2.0 client install/directory. Why can't it find these dependent libraries and how to I workaround this?
    Thanks,
    Brian

    How are you loading the library? If you're using the System#loadLibrary(String) method, the dll in question has to be in your computer's PATH (ie, somewhere in the folders defined in the PATH system variable). Simply being in the same path as the JVM or your classpath doesn't cut it. Moreover, don't include the extenion when calling loadLibrary. Thus, you'd call System.loadLibrary("HelloNative").
    Another option is the System#load(String) method, which expects a fully-qualified path. Thus, if your dll is in C:\Development\Native, you'd have to call System.load("C:\Development\Native\HelloNative.dll") (notice the inclusion of the extension).
    Hope this helps,

  • JVM Crash With Oracle OCI Client

    Hi
    My app is running on Windows 7 64 bit, Jboss 4.2, launched from Eclipse, and runs fine when I use the Oracle thin client (10g, 32bit). However when I try to use the OCI client, I get this:
    # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
    # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x6d906f21, pid=4740, tid=5656

    # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (17.0-b17 interpreted mode windows-x86 )
    # Problematic frame:
    # V [jvm.dll+0x106f21]
    I'll post the contents of the log in another message because it's too long to fit here. Using the thin client is NOT an option unfortunately as the thin driver is missing some functionality that we need to use.
    I've installed the Oracle client in a folder that doesn't contain spaces, or parentheses (c:\oracle\.....) and the JDK is installed in a similar directory (c:\java\...)
    I've tried both 32bit and 64 bit versions of JDK1.6 and the Oracle 10g client. I have also tried mixed mode and interpreted mode JVM (Xint) with the same results.
    ojdbc14.jar is in my JBoss server's lib directory, and ocijdbc10.dll is in my path (c:\windows\system32).
    Anyone any ideas what's going wrong? Been trying to fix this for days now. Appreciate any help.
    Richard

    Sorted it (well, my colleague did anyway). We installed a fresh version (32 bit) JDK (6u21), the Oracle 10g (10.0.3) client (32 bit) and made sure that there were no other OCI DLLs anywhere. I had some in the JBoss bin directory which I had copied in earlier that morning and forgotten about. So, the only OCI DLLs I have now are in Oracle's installation directory. Once we removed those erroneous DLLs from the JBoss directory, the server made the connection successfully. I don't full understand why, because I was getting the error earlier without the erroneous DLLs being present too, so I think there was some additional interaction going on somewhere. One other thing that may have been important is the tnsnames.ora file I had. We found a post that said the tnsnames file generated by the installer, when it only has one entry in it, can include dodgy whitespace at the end which can cause problems. So, just to be on the safe side we added a second entry (to another DB) - maybe that was something to do with it.
    So, the Oracle 10g client and OCI driver DOES work on Windows 7 64 bit (at least for me anyway)
