put <security-constraint> tag also in your web.xml defining the <web-resource-collection>, <web-resource-name>, <url-pattern> and the
<role-name>manager</role-name> inside <auth-constraint>, This role-name is important and you have to add this role in your tomcat-users.xml also. See sample web.xml in ..\webapps\manager\WEB-INF
Dont know if this is the reason why ur problem is coming though,

***************** END TOMCAT ERROR MESSAGE *********************

    Hi
I am running my Tomcat apps (on a Windows dev machine) in an alternate location (ie. not default webapps). The same crap comes to me every time. Unable to install etc. I have tried every trick in the book regarding classpath settings etc.
When I use 'javap' to check the classpath from any location on my machine, its works and javap returns the signature of my class.
When I use it though Tomcat (with the import set to include the filename), it get the error. I have heard rumors that using JDK 1.3 in stead of 1.4 helps, but I just want it to work with 1.4 :)
So if any of you can help me on this, please.
PS. On my linux server it works just fine, as does every other thing on that machine ;)

  • How to see JSP compilation errors - Tomcat 4.1.18- JDK 1.4

    Hi There,
I'm kind of new to JSP world, so once in while I forget to put a ; or I put a variable name wrong (I usualy use Eclipse to do my coding in JAVA, but the existing plugins for JSP development are still in their early stages, so there's isn't any plugin that indicates errors on JSP before deploying them).
When I try to see a JSP, if it has an error (compilation-time error), I get this message:

    [javac] Compiling 1 source file
    <--->
This doesn't help me a lot to fix the problem, I would like to, at least, see from what line the error came from.
    Help anyone?
    Thank You
    Pinho

This kind of errors often come from syntax error in
    the jsp page.
Tomcat is not very friendly with this kind of errors.
A trick is to open the java file under the 'work'
directory and checkIsn't there any way to show the error on a page, just like a run-time error?
    Maybe changing some log setting?

  • Trouble running JSP project on Tomcat

When running a JSP application on Apache Tomcat 4.1.18 ( Java 1.4.2 ) an "Out of Memory" error keeps occurring. The error seems to appear during stress times, indicating that the 256 heap size is all occupied. Tomcat runs Java with 256 MB in heap with the "-Xmx256m" parameter at startup. Raising the heap to 512MB did not help so the heap is not to blame. Maximum session connections, maxProcessors for port 8080, are above stress time connected sessions so they are not causing the error. Database connections are closed on each page and the connection pool has also been raised. There's no pattern in the logs indicating that the code is to blame since the "Out of Memory" error occurs at random places.
To make things worse sometimes the computer freezes without any error thrown and sometimes must be rebooted when restarting the tomcat wont do. Sometimes the server starts but no respond on the JSP pages. To top that it has happened that Tomcat seems to start just fine, but when taking a closer look into the log he dosn't seem to be running, but the JSP pages are happily working. The log file on the other hand stated that Tomcat was no running:

    Anyone have any good ideas?
Is there a chance that the computer is out of memory and can't fill the heap memory since I don't set the Xms parameter?
Could restarting the Tomcat result in a new process that finds the old sessions in the computer memory and keeps on hanging on to them until timeout?

sounds to me like your network adapter/driver is seriously screwy.
I see a really nasty "address already in use" exception. That means that something is still hogging that port, which indicates that tomcat could not cleanly stop itself. One prime suspect when this happens is a non-daemon thread that is still running somewhere. When this happens, Tomcat will wait forever till this thread closes down.
    Hope that helps somehow.

  • Error While running JSP-

while running JSP which is deployed in JAvaWebserver2.0 Trial version, it is giving this error
    javawebserver: Loading from CLASSPATH POLCATMA001_ItemMasterModule.properties
javawebserver: Diagnostics: Silencing all diagnostic output (use -Djbo.debugoutp

This is happening while inserting a record to any master-detail jsp. In some Jsps while displaying(viewRecord) itself it is giving this error. After this error comes we are not able to do any insert, update or even navigation is not coming properly. Some vague errors like Error Message:null is coming. Why is it so? anybody got any idea abt this? Sometimes The same Jsp is working fine.

Is your JSP functioning correctly when you run it from within JDeveloper, or are you experiencing the same problems there?
If you are having the same problems from your JSP within JDeveloper, try the same from the Application Module tester.
This will help determine where the source of the error is.

Error coming like this, plz tell how to rectify this, I want to set any thing in web.xml, tell where i did mistake.

    hi,
your problem is you didn't set java home in your path..
before running your application create a ".bat" file like,
    set JAVA_HOME="path where you installed jdk eg: c:\jdk1.5";

  • Unable to run jsp in tomcat 5.0

    hi ,
iam unable to run jsps in tomcat 5.0.

iam able to compile servlets & execute them.
i have already set the paths for JAVA_HOME & CATALINA_HOME
    please guide me accordingly
    regards ,
    shailesh

the same code gets executed in other system in which there is only one jdk.
the system which iam using has got many jre s due to
    1) netbeans IDE
    2)Weblogic server
    3) jdk 1.4 was previously installed
    4) jdk 1.5 was also installed
    but i have set JAVA_HOME   =jdk1.6

  • Problems running jsp files with tags on tomcat 4.0

    hi,
i had some jsp1.1 stuff running on tomcat3.3.
last week i moved to tomcat 4.0 , changed the tags to fit jsp1.2 and... everything is wrong now. while trying to run jsp with tags i get an error message (same for all files):

the jsp files with no tags and servlets are running ok.
    I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

    cyclid,
i have the same environment setup and the same troubles. after searching the forums, it seems that there are others with the same, if not similar issues, yet no solutions. if you find the solution to this one, could you please post it. i would really appreciate it since i have been on this one for several days with no success. i even tried the helloworld jsp/custom tag examples from a jsp profession book that i have and that won't work.
    Anyone out there,
if you have any idea why this problem exists, any solutions, ideas would be appreciated.
    thank you,

I keep on getting this error when i try to copy files to my 2T Time Capsule, Please help im running out of space on my MacBook Pro....
The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)

I would get an external drive today and copy all your stuff off the TC.. forget trying to load more onto it. There is a good chance after 3years (A 2TB should be only about 2years tops), the disk or the TC itself is on the way out. Do it immediately. If TM is also failing to backup you need to recognise symtoms of impending doom.
Unfortunately the error messages are archane and it is hard to discover their meaning.
You also cannot verify a network drive.. you can verify the TM sparsebundle though so do that.
    A5. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Reboot the whole network from off.. certainly if you run later OS it can simply lose the drive..
If you still fail to be able to copy to the TC.. then get that external and copy off it. Tell us if you can do that.
