  • OWB market share: How does it compare to competeing products?

What are some of the competeing products and is it good to go through the Oracle university course?

I would not comment about competing products, but it is enough to do a web search on 'ETL tools' to find out similar products.
Regarding the market share, it is not easy to respond to this question because a lot of companies in this industry (Oracle included) bundle this tools together with others in suites. According to a study from the OVUM analist company (march 2002) the OWB market share at that time was 8% (now probably slightly higher, my guess - around 10%-12%), but bear in mind that the ETL tools market is a very fragmented one (according to the same study the tool with the largest market share then had only 18%). In Oracle-centric environments (because of its tight integrarion with the database) OWB is one of the most widely used tools (if not the most widely used).
If you are interested in details, you could take a look at the Oracle web site, under marketing collateral or find more "objective" studies on analist web-sites.
As for the Oracle University class, it surely would be of great help, especially as a starting point.

    1. Business Objects
    2. SAS
    3. Cognos
    4. Hyperion+Oracle
    5. Microsoft
This study goes further to categorize the BI tool market under two segments:
    (a) End-user query, reporting, and analysis tools and (QRA) - 80% market share
    (b) Advanced analytics - 20% market share
I would like to share my Observation with the group.
#1. Oracle acquisition of Hyperion made a significant difference in the rankings, and i hope to see Oracle capitalize on this acquisition.
#2. Vendors are beginning to address unstructured data by adding to their solutions Search and Discovery software.

  • Are there viruses out there than can infect your Mac without you knowing anything. The virus is so stealth that it doesn't give any symptoms.

I have reason to believe my job is syping on me and i would like to know if there are viruses out there that can infect your Mac without you knowing anything. I believe there is one called "Finfisher".

FinFisher is an extremely high-priced spyware tool marketed to governments and law enforcement agencies. It's very unlikely that your employer would be able to obtain a copy.
Further, at this time, there is no known malware capable of infecting an up-to-date Mac running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or newer. Of course, physical access changes the rules. If your employer has had unsupervised physical access to your machine, they could have done anything.
If they have had that access, and you truly believe that they have done that, there's only one way to clean your Mac up: erase everything and start over from scratch. See:

  • Is Dreamweaver a step backwards?

Is it just me, or is DreamWeaver a step backward from GoLive CS2? Granted, Adobe didn't get GoLive stable enough in CS2 to allow GL to compete. I deal REGULARLY with crashes, even with 4GB or RAM and a fairly simple web site. Simple things, like rearranging files into subfolders in the Site window crashes GoLive and corrupts the .site file (files are based upon templates).
I get so frustrated at times that I fire up DWCS3 and tell myself that maybe it is better. However, I immediately miss the tools and "things I know" in GoLive. If GoLive was stable, I believe it would beat DWCS3 hands down. I know Adobe didn't have time to fully integrate DW into CS3, so I hope since they canned GL, that they will include some of the neat features we had in GL into an UPDATE to DW soon. To me it's like Adobe buying Paint from Microsoft and canning Photoshop! But hey, that's just me...
I heard there might be a GL CS3 release. Anybody hear any more about that?

I got the email from Adobe today announcing GoLive's death. It is very sad to see GoLive die. I've used both GL and DW over the years, and have always preferred GoLive; it is so much easier to use!
A different take on the market and the future:
The big competition from now on will be between Adobe's DW and Flash versus Microsoft's Silverlight and Expression Studio toolset. Adobe has obvious advantages with the installed Flash user base and with graphics tools. Adobe's weak spots are the Flash development tools and their relatively new entry into the programming languages and tools market.
Microsoft's strengths and weakness are pretty much the opposite; professional-level visual design and graphic tools has been a market they've had a rough time entering. On the other hand, their programming, database, and server tools and environments are excellent -- mature, robust, flexible, and scalable. The learning curve for their programming framework (.NET) is long, but you can be productive early in the learning process.
On the tools side, Microsoft Expression is new but very promising. Expression Web is a complete, professional-quality replacement for FrontPage; I think it's fully competitive with GoLive and DreamWeaver, especially now that version 2 has PHP support. Even in version 1, I liked its site support, CSS support, and general HTML editing (visual and code) better than Dreamweaver. Information and a trial download are available at http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/Overview.aspx?key=web . Expression Web is my replacement for GoLive.
Rounding out the Expression suite are Expression Blend, the design tool for Silverlight, and Expression Design, a vector graphics editor built to work with Silverlight. Design won't replace Illustrator, but that's not its intended market. Expression Suite also includes media and encoding tools.
For the programmers, MS has Visual Studio and SQL Server. Express editions of both tools are free. (Downloads at http://www.microsoft.com/express/download/ ) By itself, Visual Studio is a pretty decent web development environment, but perhaps more for a technical audience. (Visual Web Developer Express is free; that's not a bad start.)
The big question mark for both Adobe and Microsoft is Silverlight. When Silverlight 2.0 is available this summer, it will be hugely superior to Flash in terms of capabilities and programming support. It already runs on Macs, and will soon run on Linux (as "Moonlight" on the Mono framework). NBC's Olympics web site will be based on Silverlight 2, which will give Silverlight a huge jump-start on the user install base.
It's gonna be interesting, and competition should be good for everyone.
(Disclaimer: I'm a professional software engineer who has done a lot of web development in a lot of environments. I use Microsoft tools daily and I'm a certified .NET developer, so yes, I do have a bias. But I've used Adobe tools for nearly 20 years, much longer than I've used Microsoft tools. I dearly love Photoshop and I'm going to miss GoLive. A lot.)

  • Generating list in "Create a Segment" returns whole customer list.

    Hi.
In obiee marketing (Oracle Business Intelligence 10.1.3.4), we are trying to generate a marketing list.
We have created a list format ( customer nr,email, firstname, lastname). We have no filter on the format list.
We have then created a segment and connected the segment to a list format.
Our segment returns a part of our customer set. When we check the count, it returns 500 customers out of our total stock of 5,000, and this is the number that we are expecting.
However, when click on "generate lists", the list includes all 5000 customers. It seems to be ignoring the segment and just returns what was in the format list.
    Why is this happening?
We have read that when creating a list format you can check the “Re-qualify list results against original segment criteria”. But we are missing this check box in the Create list format section. Why are we missing this check box and does it have anything to do with our problem.
    Best Regards
    Joel

    Hi.
We found the problem. In the Oracle BI Administration Tool, Marketing Manager, we didn't have Qualifying Keys set in our List Catalog.
After setting the Qualifed List Item to our customer nr column, the “Re-qualify list results against original segment criteria” checkbox showed
up when creating a format list.
After this, when clicking on "generating lists" in the segment tool, our file contained the correct number of customers, instead of the whole customer population.

  • BOBJ BI versus SSRS annd Cognos

    Hi All
I am currently comparing and contrasting BOBJ versus other BI reporting tools.  I was wondering if SAP had a position paper on how BOBJ stacks up against the other tools on the market.  I would be specifically interested in SSRS and Cognos.
    Thanks
    Alan

    Hello Alan,
We could not able to say BO is good or Cognos is good but both the tools are BI tools there you WebI and Report net you can able to choose only according to your(client) requirements
Here is some points. I did not write these points <<
    Selling against Cognos
Cognos is Business Objects' main rival for leadership of the Business Intelligence tools market. The Cognos business intelligence product line ? Impromptu and PowerPlay (includes the Transformer module) - offers similar functionality to BusinessObjects and WebIntelligence.
    Top Cognos Knockoffs
    1. The Cognos Product line is not integrated. Lack of integration makes Cognos more expensive to own, and more difficult to learn. Each additional product means additional metadata and security to administer and another interface for end users to learn.
In a full client deployment, a customer could end up with three different Cognos products ? Impromptu, PowerPlay and NovaView ? to achieve what can be done with BusinessObjects alone.
In a web deployment, a customer could end up with 4 different Cognos products ? Impromptu Web Reports, Cognos Query, PowerPlay Web, and NovaView Web Edition ? to achieve what can be done with WebIntelligence. Also, because there is little integration between full and thin client products, customers are not able to easily migrate from one platform to another. Cognos has announced plans to offer common metadata (Architect) and common security (Access Manager). These products only work with the Impromptu and PowerPlay product lines, and do not cover NovaView, Scenario, or Visualizer.
    2. Cognos product line limits workflow. Because Cognos supports OLAP in PowerPlay and Query and Reporting in Impromptu, the end user is limited in workflow. Cognos markets the concept of "Analyze then Query." This is the single workflow which they support ? i.e., slice and dice data in PowerPlay, then "drill through" to Impromptu to get detail. Once an end user has the new information, there is no way for that user to get it into PowerPlay for further analysis. And once a user has done analysis in PowerPlay, there are weak mechanisms for formatting and distributing that analysis. Also, there is no way an end user can receive an Impromptu report and immediately start drilling. An end user cannot reverse the workflow. Moving from Impromptu to PowerPlay requires the Transformer tool and IT intervention. Adding Visualizer, the unidirectional workflow gets even worse.
Business Objects supports "Analyze then Query" and "Query then analyze" and any other permutation on that slogan. Business Objects allows users to access, analyze, format and share data in a simple and flexible manner. Business Objects puts the user in control and s/he remains in the same product. The user is always in the right product.
    3. The Cognos product line is difficult to deployable to the enterprise. Extend the deal beyond small departments to larger deployments wherever possible. Business Objects has more 1,000 and 10,000 user deals than any other BI vendor.
u2026 Impromptu is not deployable, because its Catalog (semantic layer) is file based, which means it must be placed locally on a file server in each Local Area Network. Larger companies will usually have multiple LANs, which makes maintenance and synchronization of Catalogs a difficult task. Cognos architect is repository based which may remove the file-based restriction. u2026 PowerPlay is not deployable because it prevents end users from accessing the data they need, when they need it. End users are dependant upon IS to build cubes for them. Therefore in an enterprise environment as the number of users increases, the number of cubes increases greatly and the IT effort increases tremendously.
u2026 Cognos Product Line is not deployable, because it does not support seamless migration from full client to thin client deployments. 4. Impromptu is at best a mediocre query and reporting tool. Compete against Impromptu wherever possible. Limitations of Impromptu include: u2026 No multi SQL generation means no guarantee of correct results u2026 Cannot access multiple data sources
    u2026 No aggregate awareness
u2026 Single result set per report
u2026 Charting/graphing limited to highest level of detail only
    some more stuffs......
BO is easy to learn and work
Cognos is also easy but initial stage you have to put more efforts apart from this I don t find any difficulties but both they are a good OLAP tools
All depends upon client's requirement. job market is almost similar
COGNOS is a bit costly so less number of companies are using. BO is widely used in comparison to COGNOS.
Basic difference is COGNOS is for MOLAP and BO is for ROLAP.
COGNOS not requires any maintainance after installation but BO requires a little bit maintainance which we can easily
The simple answer is that there is no real difference in the toolsets. Both vendous offer ad-hoc reporting packages that sit on top of relational databases.
When Cognos updates the powercubes feature that will make a small differnce.
In practise Cognos tend to be deployed on a Unix environment and BO on Windows but this is more what I have seen on customer sites rather than anything the vendors would ever recommend.
I hope it would help you somehow!!!
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ajay

  • Is there a ruleset comparison tool available in the market?

    Dear all,
I wanted to know if there is a SAP GRC ruleset comparison tool available in the market? As a part of our audit requirement, I would need to compare our current rulesets with the ones from last quarter - To identify any changes/enhancements.
I know Bizrights Approva supports a comparison tool called ExamXML where we can perform a comparison of 2 XML files and figure out the differences/ changes.
Please let me know if any of you has used such a tool for GRC ruleset comparison.

If any auditor is comparing sap delivered rule sets with a companies' grc rule sets (without deep investigations) and reporting the differences in his/her audit report (as white spaces)  then the auditor is doing it the wrong way.
The auditor should be aware of the following facts:
    1. SAP delivered rule sets are mere best practices (only starting point)
    2. Most of the customers modify/update the rule sets as per their requirements
    3. Organizational rules are created by customers differently
    4. Some customers don't even choose sap delivered rule sets and completely create their own.
So the difference between rule sets is obvious, but these findings may or may not be entirely appropriate to reach to a conclusion for audit purposes.

  • Expert Tools for Marketing Attributes

    Hi,
In Expert Tools, if we use the tool “Assignment of an Attribute value to all BPs in a Target Group” and specify the old attribute in “Old value” and new in “New Value” field, the old attribute in overwritten by the new attribute.
When I go to BP Master and check the Marketing attributes tab page of one of the BP, the new attribute is captured there.
But when in segment builder I try to search this BP in my Target group, the BP is not there.
I tried to change attributes of this target group many times through expert tools, everytime this particular BP's attributes were also changed, which means this BP is a part of my target group. Whey Can't I see it in the segment builder when I view list of all BPs in this target group?
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Monica

    Hi Roula,
Thank you so much for awarding points.
Please note that in Transaction PFCG you have to assign the appropriate three digit attribute set key under the authorization group BGKRL to the authorization object C_KLAH_BKL for assigning attribute sets and to the authorization object C_KLAH_BKP for editing attribute sets.
Please have a look at the Note in the bottom of the page at the following link for further information.

  • Are there any 3rd Party Cloud Application Readiness Assessment tools in the market today?

I have couple of interrelated questions here:
    1
Are there any 3rd party tools, which do Cloud Readiness  Assessments for on-premises Applications. I am looking for names of any such tools, if they exist, which thoroughly analyse on-premises applications, and generate detailed reports on whether the
application is ready for moving to the cloud (and why?), or if it needs some changes before moving (which changes?), or if the application needs major changes (which?) or cannot be move to cloud in its present form. The cloud here could be Azure (1st pref)
    or AWS (2nd pref).
    2
From the tools named in response to above questions, which are the ones which can be used for doing applications assessments for a large number of on-premises apps in most efficient way? Do such tools actually exist? Imagine scenario that an enterprise customer
comes to me and asks that they want to check the cloud readiness for 3000 applications in shortest possible time - What tool will you recommend for such massive assessments?
    Thanks, LH

    Hi Rakesh,
plz have a look to <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/14/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm">SAP Library: SAP Exchange Infrastructure</a> for understanding XI, BPM and Mappings.
BPM has no special mapping tool. You can use Java, ABAP, XSLT and graphical Mapping (Message Mapping) at XI, for any case - BPM or not. 3rd Party has nothing to do with BPM or Mapping. That means a non SAP system.

  • Different Tools in Market

I have a background of just OBIEE.I understand OBI Apps which has inbuilt RPD for different domains of ERP/CRM/Industry applications like financial, spend, sales, price Analytics.Recently I see openings for not just OBIEE or OBI Apps(with informatica/DAC) but with a combination of even Hyperion Planning,Hyperion financial management,E-Business suite R12.How are this related. Can anyone please explain differences between this tools.Any docs which help to understand more about them.

    E-Business Suite + OBIEE = OBI Apps
As far as Hyperion Planning,Hyperion financial management are concerned, they are all reporting tools or are similar to them and the company has been acquired by Oracle to serve Business Intelligence solutions to the companies that still use Hyperion. Nowadays, companies implementing OBIEE demand for Hyperion knowledge for the reason that they might have Hyperion reports to be converted into OBIEE. But as far as I know, I don't think there is any company implementing Hyperion from Ground Zero now.
