Touch keeps crashing

Did a search, but the other problems listed do not seem the same as mine. I used my touch for about 6 or 7 hours yesterday.
It "soft" crashed three or four times, by that I mean shut down and when I hit the reset button it came back to the home page.
It "somewhat hard" crashed five times last night and this morning in a short period of time. When it does that, I have to wait about five seconds before turning it back on. Have to reprogram the date when that happens (which is making me nuts), but most of the other settings stay the same. Happened twice while using Safari, twice while using Mail and once just shut down while playing a song.
Overall, this has happened about 50 times in the month that I have had the touch. Is this normal. Can I do something to fix it? Do I have a dud touch? I am using the most current software upgrades in the iPod and iTunes. Thanks.

There are some things you could try but out of curiosity what week IPT do you have? you can tell by reading the serial No. eg. XXX48XXX so fourth and fifth number after the first three. Oh and where did you purchase it from?
Mine was a week 48 and was purchased at FurtureShop and while my crashes haven't been as dramatic as yours I have had them and so have many others here. I'm beginning to think that there may be a problem with the flash memory that's used in these devices because when you have this many crashes on a computer nine times out of 10 it's usually memory related.
Ok on to the things you may want to try, and before you do make sure you do a backup of your itunes because one of the things to try is a restore. The first thing to try would just be a reset by holding both the sleep wake button and the home button for around 10 secs until the apple logo appears and then let go of the sleep button but keep holding the home button for around another 10 secs and your IPT should reboot again. I'd try this first and if it has no effect then you will have to go for broke and restore it.
If you do decide to restore it I would suggest re-ripping any video or audio that you have put on the device (not content that you have purchased through itunes) but stuff that you own.
Good luck to you but if none of that works I would suggest contacting Apple to see if you can get a replacement.

  • Ipod Touch keeps crashing, now wont open at all.

I got my ipod touch a little under a year ago, and soon after getting it i noticed that the music would randomly stop and go to the homepage. It wasn't that bad because the music would always come back up, and it didn't happen that often. But then it started getting more and more often. Recently it started taking two or three times to get music to open, and now it crashed last night, and even after two hours of nothing but trying to open it, it still wont open. I'm getting a new ipod soon, but i wanted to know if there was any quick fix.

This is kinda weird... My iPod touch keeps crashing although I got os 3.1.3.
It always crashes while tring to play chalkboard stunts.
I got a second generation iPod touch. Any help would be very helpful.

  • My iPod touch keeps crashing! Please help!!

My iPod touch keeps crashing.  Apps, Camera, settings. Everything. It just started after I installed the last update. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Restarts are not helping.

Try restoring the iPod, first using a backup and if that doesn't help then as a new device.
    Regards.

  • Ipod Touch keeps crashing - can't open any apps

I have a 4th generation iPod Touch that is barely over a year old.  About a week before the warranty expired, the power button quit working.  I arranged to send it in for repair but was hesitant because when I sent my nano in, I received a refurbished one that quit working properly a few weeks after the 90 day warranty expired.  I really didn't want to get a refurbished Touch so I decided to live the problem.
Now, suddenly, after working fine all day, all my apps keep crashing - I can't even use the settings app to try and activate the assistive touch (I read that this might help me resolve my problem).
Since the power button is broken, is there anyway to do a reset?
As an aside, ths problem with the power button breaking seems to be widespread.  It really ticks me off to spend a few hundred dollars on an item only to have it break within a year.  I think there should be a recall and Apple should replace the obviously defective iPod Touch with brand new ones.

Ended up plugging it into itunes where I updated to the newest version.  After about 1/2 an hour of doing all the updating, install and synch, it is working fine.
I'm still frustrated about the broken power button.  I am going to try to collect data on this issue just to show apple it's a problem they need to address.

  • 4G iPod touch KEEPS CRASHING AFTER 6.1.3 UPDATE

Okay, so I live in an area with rural internet. Because of this I have only just downloaded the 6.1.3 iOS update this week for my 4G iPod touch. I have only just discovered how bad an idea that was.
Safari crashes every half-minute, the iPod is now INCREDIBLY slow, Twitter, YouTube and almost every app I have keeps crashing after a minute or so...
I have gone over all the 'fixes' that google has presented to me.
Clearing the multitasking bar doesn't change jack and I can't roll back my iPod to the backup on iTunes because I just got a new computer. And the first thing I did was move all my music over and SYNC THE IPOD AFTER IT HAD BEEN UPDATED.
So what am I supposed to do? My iPod is USELESS to me now as an internet-capable device OR music player, and no matter where I look the only help anyone can offer is "Apple doesn't support downgrading"???
So Apple updates the OS with a faulty patch and I have to deal with the failure?
Is there anyone who can actually HELP me? What do I do? Jailbreak the **** thing? I've never jailbroken anything before, but surely it can't render my iPod any more useless than it already is! It's not like the thing is covered under warranty anymore! (Really convinient, that...)
Can some please help me get my iPod WORKING again?! I paid $300 dollars for a music player with internet access, not a paperweight!
Either way, I'm officially done with Apple devices after this nonsense. I hear Galaxy Tabs actually work! Imagine!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

  • 1st Generation Ipod touch  keeps crashing/going into stand by mode 3.1.3

I have a 1st generation ipod touch that I recently restored to the newest firmware 3.1.3. My problem is that after this restore and subsequent restore attempts is that the device keeps clicking off to a black screen when I use wifi or transition from different desktop screens. The device does not completely crash as once the screen goes black I can hit the home button an slide to unlock. I have found that if I disable wifi this problem does not occur. I have tried to both reset and restore with no success. Any suggestions or ideas?

If a restore did not help, I'm afraid you have a hardware issue there.

  • My ipod touch keeps crashing and I need to recover it every time

So this is the problem.. my ipod keep craching but a soft reset was all it needed. It used to happen every few weeks but now it's once or twice a week and once it's crashed, it goes in recovery mode. Now last time in an effort to isolate if it was a problem with an app, I installed only my fav app: Stanza (since I mainly use my ipod for reading), but obviously it crashed again.
Crashes are random, and never when using the ipod. I get it out of my pocket and it's just dead (and no, I don't have anything else in the pocket, and I've never have a hip surgery...)
So I've tried to read the forum (and search google, etc) but I didn't see no one else with my problem.
    Can someone help?

    Thanks for the answer.
What I did was switch case (my old one is all leather, with a front protector that was kept close with magnets, so I was starting to think they had an adverse affect), and also switch pockets. I always kept my touch in my pants pocket but maybe there was a small strain on the unit.
So for it's working fine so I'll leave it as is for now. Not installing Stanza would mean having a useless unit for me, so it's my very last option...
Thanks for your help and have a great Christmas holiday.

  • My iPod touch keeps crashing while playing a game

I downloaded recently Dinner Dash Rush and in the beginning it was fine, playing the time I wanted but in these last few days I start playing the game and suddenly it crashes. I have tried turning the ipod off and on but after like the second time playing the game it goes back to crashing. What should I do?. Also, the facebook app crashes A LOT, since the last update. I don't have the IOS 7 because my ipod is the 4th generation and I didn't get to have the update.

  • My Ipod Touch keeps crashing...

I have a 2nd Gen, 32GB Ipod Touch. This only seems to happen when I have not been using my ipod for a few hours, it never happens while I am using it :/. I unlock it and then it is suddenly frozen on the lock screen, as in it does not respond when I try to slide to open it, but it still shows the correct time and I can still lock it again, but the touch screen is just not responding. So I try holding the power and home button until the Apple logo appears. Yes, the Apple logo appears, fine. But then I get the screen that tells me to connect it up to Itunes (the USB symbol), so I connect it up, and it's randomly deleted EVERYTHING off my Ipod, including anything I may have bought, so I've lost that too. :/ So I have to restore from backup, and it takes all day to put everything back on. I even tried setting it up as a new Ipod, in case there was something wrong with the backup.
The next day - all of this happens again. It's a nightmare!
    Please help!
    Sarah x

  • IPod Touch 4th gen iOS 6.0.1 keeps crashing

    Hello
My iPod keeps crashing when I open certain apps, like the App Store and also a magazine that I subscribe to that has its own app.  I have to close all the open apps and then do a reset (hold down both on/off switch and the home button).
This solves the problem, but it's frustrating to have to do it every couple of days.
Any idea what the problem is?
    - too many apps "open"?
    - iOS 6.0.1 running on a 4th generation iPod Touch?
    - too many apps on my device? (I have 2.8 GB free of 32 GB total)
    - something else?
    Any suggestions/advice/information will be appreciated.
