Transfer file clean up: What is best practice when creating files with timestamps?

Created an SSIS package to create files that will be sent which are created with a time stamp. What is the best procedure of clean up for the files? I'd like to keep at least a day of files for verification purposes.

Run http://filepropertiestask.codeplex.com task to get the file creation date and if older delete it or a Script Task that uses the .Net FileInfo
CreratedDate method to find it Then you can use
Precedence Constraints to either skip the file deletion or not.

  • Best practice when using Tangosol with an app server

    Hi,
    I'm wondering what is the best practice when using Tangosol with an app server (Websphere 6.1 in this case). I've been able to set it up using the resource adapter, tried using distributed transactions and it appears to work as expected - I've also been able to see cache data from another app server instance.
    However, it appears that cache data vanishes after a while. I've not yet been able to put my finger on when, but garbage collection is a possibility I've come to suspect.
    Data in the cache survives the removal of the EJB, but somewhere later down the line it appear to vanish. I'm not aware of any expiry settings for the cache that would explain this (to the best of my understanding the default is "no expiry"), so GC came to mind. Would this be the explanation?
    If that would be the explanation, what would be a better way to keep the cache from being subject to GC - to have a "startup class" in the app server that holds on to the cache object, or would there be other ways? Currently the EJB calls getCacheAdapter, so I guess Bad Things may happen when the EJB is removed...
    Best regards,

    Hi Gene,
    I found the configuration file embedded in coherence.jar. Am I supposed to replace it and re-package coherence.jar?
    If I put it elsewhere (in the "classpath") - is there a way I can be sure that it has been found by Coherence (like a message in the standard output stream)? My experience with Websphere is that "classpath" is a rather ...vague concept, we use the J2CA adapter which most probably has a different class loader than the EAR that contains the EJB, and I would rather avoid to do a lot of trial/error corrections to a file just to find that it's not actually been used.
    Anyway, at this stage my tests are still focused on distributed transactions/2PC/commit/rollback/recovery, and we're nowhere near 10,000 objects. As a matter of fact, we haven't had more than 1024 objects in these app servers. In the typical scenario where I've seen objects "fade away", there has been only one or two objects in the test data. And they both disappear...
    Still confused,
    /Per

  • Looking for best practices when creating DNS reverse zones for DHCP

    Hello,
    We are migrating from ISC DHCP to Microsoft DHCP. We would like the DHCP server to automatically update DNS A and PTR records for computers when they get an IP. The question is, what is the best practice for creating the reverse look up zones in DNS? Here
    is an example:
    10.0.1.0/23
    This would give out IPs from 10.0.1.1-10.0.2.254. So with this in mind, do we then create the following reverse DNS zones?:
    1.0.10.in-addr.arpa AND 2.0.10.in-addr.arpa
    OR do we only create:
    0.10.in-addr.arpa And both 10.0.1 and 10.0.2 addresses will get stuffed into those zones.
    Or is there an even better way that I haven't thought about? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Base on your description, creating two reverse DNS zones 1.0.10.in-addr.arpa and 2.0.10.in-addr.arpa, or creating one reverse DNS zone 0.10.in-addr.arpa, both methods are all right.

  • Best practices when using OEM with Siebel

    Hello,
    I support numerous Oracle databases and have also taken on the task of supporting Enterprise Manager (GRID Control). Currently we have installed the agent (10.2.0.3) on our Oracle Database servers. So most of our targets are host, databases and listeners. Our company is also using Siebel 7.8 which is supported by the Siebel Ops team. The are looking into purchasing the Siebel plugin for OEM. The question I have is there a general guide or best practice to managing the Siebel plugin? I understand that there will be agents installed on each of the Servers that have Siebel Components, but what I have not seen documented is who is responsible for installing them? Does the DBA team need an account on the Siebel servers to do the install or can the Siebel ops team do the install and have permissions set on the agent so that it can communicate with the GRID Control? Also they will want access to the Grid Control to see performance of their Components, how do we limit their access to only see the Siebel targets including what is available under the Siebel Services tab? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    There is a Getting Started Guide, which explains about installation
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/b32394/toc.htm
    -- I presume there are two teams in your organization. viz. DBA team which is responsible for installing the agent and owns the Grid Control / Siebel ops team is responsible for monitoring Siebel deployment.
    Following is my opinion based on the above assumption:
    -- DBA team installs agent as a monitoring user
    -- Siebel ops team provides execute permission to the above user for server manager[]srvrmgr.exe] utilities and read permission to all the files under Siebel installation directory
    -- DBA team provisions a new admin for Siebel ops team and restrict the permissions for this user
    -- Siebel ops team configures the Siebel pack in Grid Control. [Discovery/Configuration etc]
    -- With the above set up Siebel ops team can view only the Siebel specific targets.
    Thanks

  • Need advise for best practice when using Toplink with external transaction

    Hello;
    Our project is trying to switch from Toplink control transaction to using External transaction so we can make database operation and JMS operation within a single transaction.
    Some of our team try out the Toplink support for external transaction and come up with the following initial recommendation.
    Since we are not familar with using external transaction, I would like member of this forum and experts, to help comment on whether these recommendation are indeed valid or in line with the best practice. And for folks that have done this in their project, what did you do ?
    Any help will be most appreciated.
    Data Access Objects must be enhanced to support reading from a TOPLink unit of work when using an external transaction controller. Developers must consider what impact a global transaction will have on the methods in their data access objects (DAOs).
    The following findSomeObject method is representative of a “finder” in the current implementation of our DAOs. It is not especially designed to execute in the context of a global transaction, nor read from a unit of work.
    public findSomeObject(ILoginUser aUser, Expression queryExpression)
    ClientSession clientSession = getClientSession(aUser);
    SomeObject obj = null;
    try
    ReadObjectQuery readObjectQuery = new ReadObjectQuery(SomeObject.class);
    readObjectQuery.setSelectionCriteria(queryExpression);
    obj = (SomeObject)clientSession.executeQuery(readObjectQuery);
    catch (DatabaseException dbe)
    // throw an appropriate exception
    finally
    clientSession.release();
    if (obj == null)
    // throw an appropriate exception
    return obj;
    However, after making the following changes (in blue) the findSomeObject method will now read from a unit of work while executing in the context of a global transaction.
    public findSomeObject(ILoginUser aUser, Expression queryExpression)
    Session session = getClientSession(aUser);
    SomeObject obj = null;
    try
    ReadObjectQuery readObjectQuery = new ReadObjectQuery(SomeObject.class);
    readObjectQuery.setSelectionCriteria(queryExpression);
    if (TransactionController.getInstance().useExternalTransactionControl())
         session = session.getActiveUnitOfWork();
         readObjectQuery.conformResultsInUnitOfWork(); }
    obj = (SomeObject)session.executeQuery(readObjectQuery);
    catch (DatabaseException dbe)
    // throw an appropriate exception
    finally
    if (TransactionController.getInstance().notUseExternalTransactionControl())
         session.release();
    if (obj == null)
    // throw an appropriate exception
    return obj;
    When getting the TOPLink client session and reading from the unit of work in the context of a global transaction, new objects need to be cached.
    public getUnitOfWork(ILoginUser aUser)
    throws DataAccessException
         ClientSession clientSession = getClientSession(aUser);
         UnitOfWork uow = null;
         if (TransactionController.getInstance().useExternalTransactionControl())
              uow = clientSession.getActiveUnitOfWork();
              uow.setShouldNewObjectsBeCached(true);     }
         else
              uow = clientSession.acquireUnitOfWork();
         return uow;
    }

    As it generally is with this sort of question there is no exact answer.
    The only required update when working with an External Transaction is that getActiveUnitOfWork() is called instead of acquireUnitOfWork() other than that the semantics of the calls and when you use a UnitOfWork is still dependant on the requirements of your application. For instance I noticed that originally the findSomeObject method did not perform a transactional read (no UnitOfWork). Has the requirements for this method changed? If they have not then there is still no need to perform a transactional read, and the method would not need to change.
    As for the requirement that new object be cached this is only required if you are not conforming the transactional queries and adds a slight performance boost for find by primary key queries. In order to use this however, objects must be assigned primary keys by the application before they are registered in the UnitOfWork.

  • InDesgin CS6:  What is best practice for creating a jpg for web use?

    My graphic design experience is heavy toward print, but I’ve been charged to solve this web-graphics problem for my team. I’ve done searches online and can’t find resources specific to this issue. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.
    Here’s the issue:
    My team uses both InDesign and Photoshop CS6, to make landing pages and other stuff for our website. After saving to jpg files, the InDesign files always have jaggy text compared to Photoshop’s jpg. What are we doing wrong?  Can’t InDesign be used for web?  I’ve also tried saving it out as PNG with no better results.
    Note: The background in the InDesign files are created in Photoshop (these look fine in both programs)—but the text created in InDesign looks jaggy while Photoshop’s text looks clean.
    Here’s how we save it in Photoshop
    File > Save for Web with these settings: JPG, High, Optimized, Quality 70, Blur 0, Matte None, Quality Bicubic.
    Here’s how I solved the problem (which seems too labor intensive to actually be correct) Is there a better way?
    I convert text to outlines.
    I change the “intent” to web intent
    Manually reset the page size.   Whenever I change the intent in anyway, InDesign automatically changes the page size to 8.5”x11” or 800x600 pix regardless of the original page-size. I expect it to change proportionately from inches to pixels, or vise-versa, but it just won’t do it. Is there a preference for this somewhere?
    Export as JPG with these setting:  Quality Maximum, Format method progressive, Resolution 72 ppi, Color Space RGB, Options: Embed Color Profile: sRGB IEC6196-2.1, anti-alias.
    Our web people tell us that if we use a higher resolution the image comes in proportionately too large, and they can’t use it at that size.
    This seems like a lot of work. There must be a better way?

    Ok. Thank you.     Hmm....I don't have PDF/X-4.  I have Adobe Preset PDF/X1a and PDF/X3.
    I assume PDF/X-4 is a from a newer version of InDesign.  Will PDF/X-3  work as well?
    So there is not a way to achieve a crisp jpg or png directly from InDesign without all the steps I'm using now?
    BTW, do you happen know why changing the "intent" changes the page size? or where I can change a preference on this.  unless I've overlooked it, I don't see anything relating to this under edit > preferences.
    Thanks again for your reply, I value your input!

  • Any suggestions for best practice when creating assets for tablets?

    General community question,
    I'm about to start creating a tablet demo of a few assets that have already been created for web that need adapting for tablet (namely iOS on iPad). I was wondering if anyone could share some pointers about what to avoid doing or some top tips to ensure that they can be converted as quickly and easily as possible, particularly given the state of the current version of EA.
    Any suggestions or links to relevant websites would be welcome!

  • What are best practices for managing my iphone from both work and home computers?

    What are best practices for managing my iphone from both work and home computers?

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
    Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
    I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans withiTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
    As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
    When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.

  • What's best practice for logging messages in pageflow?

    What's best practice for logging messages in pageflow?
    Workshop complains when I try to use a Log4J logger by saying it's not serializable. Is there a context similar to JWSContext that you can get a logger from?
    There seems to be a big hole in the documentation on debug logging in workflows and JSP pages.
    thanks,
    Rodger...

    Make the configuration change in setDomainEnv.cmd. Find where the following variable is set:
    LOG4J_CONFIG_FILE
    and change it to your desired path.
    In your Global.app class, instantiate a static Logger like this:
    transient static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(Global.class);
    You should be logging now as long as you have the categories and appenders configured properly in your log4j.xml file.

  • What is best practice for installing Yosemite

    I am currently on OS X Mavericks version 10.9.5 Macbook pro 13.  2.6 ghz intel for i5, 8gb 1600 mhz ddr3.
    I am now downloading yosemite 10.10.1 but since i've been reading all these negative feedback so far, i am having second thoughts if i should continue to install the upgrade or not.
    Any suggestion What is best practice for installing Yosemite?  Or is it not yet time to upgrade since the platform is premature yet?
    Thanks in advance.

    Check your apps are compatible with 10.10 - roaringapps.com
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck can show what is running & installed - look for updates on the developer own sites.
    If you have many kernel extensions or startup items look for updates to them too
    Take a full bootable backup to another disk via Carbon Copy Cloner, Super Duper! or Disk Utility
    Disconnect the backup before you begin any install (ideally set it aside & leave it untouched incase you need to go back to 10.9)
    Personally I prefer a clean install when there are signs of multiple migrations (if you have upgraded several OS for a period of years). Setup Assistant/ Migration Assistant can import user data from a backup, but consider that Apps & 'other data' should be manually reinstalled from the latest versions.
    If you clean install (erase the HD before installation) then make sure you deauthorise iTunes & any other apps that are associated online (like find my Mac).
    Basically the steps you would take before selling a Mac…

  • Best Practices for Exporting Files??

    I'm new to Premiere (coming from FCP).  I used Premiere months ago to compress some ProRes files to h.264 files for the web.  I sent the files through Media Encoder and everything seemed fine.  However, I realized after several weeks that the audio in all of the files was a few frames out of sync.  Having not been a Premiere user at the time I did not do much research and decided to just use MPEG Streamclip from then on.
    Now that I'm learning how to use Premiere, I looked up the issue on the forums and found that many people have had similar issues with the audio being out of sync after exporting. However, there are tons of different scenerios in which it seems to be occuring.  The one common variable that I've noticed (among many of the threads, but not all) is that many of the people are exporting to a Quicktime format.
    While I don't remember all the details of my export and sequence settings from my issue months ago (so I don't want to address that specific case), I am curious as to what are some "Best Practices" when exporting from Premiere Pro? Is there any advantage/disadvantage to use AME rather than exporting directly from Premiere Pro? In general, I will just be exporting as H.264 files for the web, MPEG-2 for DVD, and ProRes 422 for After Effects (or sometimes to bring into MPEG Streamclip).
    I shoot almost entirely in AVCHD, and usually at 1080p 30fps.  I'm running CS5 on a Macbook Pro 15" 2.0 Quad Core i7 8GB RAM.
    While the question may seem broad, my main concern that I want to avoid is having the audio out of sync.  But also I just want to know of any important details to keep in mind to prevent other issues.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    > I'm running CS5...
    What specific version? We're up to 5.0.4 now.
    There have been bug fixes for audio/video synch in the updates. One of the fixes was for a bug in the conforming of audio and indexing of MPEG files, so you need to delete your media cache files and let Premiere Pro create new ones for this fix to take effect.

  • What's 'best-practice' with external hard drives?

    Hello folks,
    I just got myself a 500GB LaCie d2 'Quadra' hard drive, and it works great - just as I was led to expect. Now I've connected it to my iMac with a FW400 cable. I've a few questions regarding general usage and 'best practice' when using an external hard drive like this:
    1. Do I need to disconnect it (pull out the cable from my iMac) every time I Shutdown - and reconnect on Startup? Or can I leave it it and pretty much just forget about it?
    2. Can I turn it 'on' and 'off' any number of times (using the on/off switch on the back) when working on the iMac? I might like to switch it off if I'm not using it for an extended period of time while still working on the computer. Is this okay?
    3. When I'm not using the drive and the drive switch is 'off', can the drive still remain connected to 'mains' power? Or is it necessary to disconnect it from the 'mains' entirely?
    4. I understand it's best to disconnect when 'Repairing Permissions?' Can this be confirmed?
    Thanks so much.
    Cheers!
    Steve.

    1. Do I need to disconnect it (pull out the cable from my iMac) every time I Shutdown - and reconnect on Startup? Or can I leave it it and pretty much just forget about it?
    What I do is shut down my Mac, leaving it connected to the mains: the external HD, external speakers and other peripherals are all connected to a mains switch and I turn these off. There's no need to disconnect the cable: some disks spin down when the computer is shut down, some don't. It probably wouldn't hurt to leave it spinning anyway, though I prefer to shut it off at the mains. Incidentally I shouldn't disconnect the computer from the mains when you shut down: doing this will run down the PRAM battery and hasten the day it needs replacing, which is expensive.
    2. Can I turn it 'on' and 'off' any number of times (using the on/off switch on the back) when working on the iMac? I might like to switch it off if I'm not using it for an extended period of time while still working on the computer. Is this okay?
    I shouldn't do this: the most strain on a hard disk is when it is starting up, not when it is running: I should leave it running all the time the Mac is on. If you do switch it off, make sure to unmount it first (drag it to the trash) otherwise you will have all sorts of problems.
    3. When I'm not using the drive and the drive switch is 'off', can the drive still remain connected to 'mains' power? Or is it necessary to disconnect it from the 'mains' entirely?
    No: I see no problem in leaving it plugged in to the mains: the 'off' switch disconnects it anyway.
    4. I understand it's best to disconnect when 'Repairing Permissions?' Can this be confirmed?
    I've never heard this, and I can't see that there's any neccesity: the repairing process will be confined to the disk you have nominated to work on in any case.

  • What is best practice for dealing with Engineering Spare Parts?

    Hello All,
    I am after some advice regarding the process for handling engineering spare parts in PM. (We run ECC 5)
    Our current process is as follows:
    All materials are set up as HIBE's
    Each material is batch managed
    The Batch field is used for the Bin location
    We are now looking to role out PM to a site that has in excess of 50,000 spare parts and want to make sure we use best practice for handling the spare parts. We are now considering using a basic WM setup to handle the movement of parts.
    Please can you provide me with some feedback on what you feel the best practice is for dealing with these parts?
    We are looking to set up a solution that will us to generate pick lists etc and implment a scanning solution to move parts in and out of stores.
    Regards
    Chris

    Hi,
    I hope all the 50000 spare parts are maintained as stock items.
    1. Based on the usage of those spare parts, try to define safety stock & define MRP as "Reorder Point Planning". By this, you can avoid petty cash purchase.
    2. By keeping the spare parts (atleast critical components) in stock, Planned Maintenance as well as unplanned maintenance will not get delayed.
    3. By doing GI based on reservation, qty can be tracked against the order & equipment.
    As this question is MM & WM related, they can give better clarity on this.
    Regards,
    Maheswaran.

    Hi,
    It is really difficult to have Budgetary Control on Inventory Items in Average Costing enviornment as you can have only one Inventory Account at the Inventory Organization level.
    You have to modify your PO / Requisition Account Generator to populate the Encumbrance Account in PO / Requisition based upon item category. Moreover, the "Reverse Encumbrance" flag in your Inventory Org needs to be unchecked so that the encumbrances are not revered when the goods are received.
