Transferring Data on Offline PDF to Online PDF

Hi All,
I have an Offline PDF Form filled with Data and i need to transfer this data to another Form of the same structure but which is online and can be submitted to SAP from there.
How can i deal with this situation and what are my options?

Hi,
though I do not understand why you don't just upload the offline PDF-Files as a complete file to the desired online location, I try to give you some suggestions.
To my mind you've several options to solve the problem:
1) You can start by uploading the complete file to sap and then parse it there. Try to gather the information by keywords and at which place they are located and by the format of the text. For instance in case of a simple form which looks like that: Firstname: ________ Lastname:____,
you could go for the keyword 'Firstname:' and you'ld put the following 8 characters in a variable which you insert in the online pdf-File. Doing this, you have to get a little bit familiar with Postscript, then you'll understand where to insert in the ps-file the parsed information in the right way. Use ghostscript to check the validity of the ps-file. (PDF-Format is just an enhanced .ps file) Open the online-file with a function module, change it and close it again. After reloading the site there have to be some visible changes.
2) The second idea is to use an offline pdf2xml converter. Once you have the desired information embedded in XML-Tags, you can load the file and put the data in a table, which you design according to the information you need for the online pdf-form. Once again, open the online file, do the changes from your database entries of the offline form field by field and close the file. Reload. Done.
3) If you didn't mean online .pdf but just an online HTML-form(?), XML-Data provides a good basis to deal with the data and to go on with it.
I don't know if this meets your problem, just an idea.

1. Users download offline PDF files.
2. Users inputs data on their local PCs.
3. Users upload these PDF files in one folder.
4. Program can read data form PDF files on that folder. and put data to ERP at night.
I' d like to know how to implement a program with Java or ABAP.

It's possible to do it but first be sure that the SAP system can read the directory while your program is executed in background .
Then you have to read the content of the directory and process each file you found.
Look at this standard ABAP object cl_gui_frontend_services , you will find method for browsing a directory and retrieve list of file .

Offline PDF Scenario

Guys,
Is it possible to create a offline PDF form with submit button on it and user should allow to submit the form offline. For example a user has boardes a flight and then fills the form on laptop and saves it . Once he gets down rather than uploading the form ( SAP's way) he should connect to internet and just press submit on PDF and should send information via xml .

Hi Manish,
Offline PDF has a different meaning. It has the functionality for entering the value and once you save the PDF (save button) the data gets stored inside the pdf form (XML format). once your done with the document u have to open up the application and upload the document that u have saved, once this is done it reads the data (XML format) converts it and gets stored. this is the senario.
PDF have only submit and check button.

IPad use for offline PDF submit

For iPad use, is there yet any way to use the offline PDF formfiller with the active "submit" button to send responses back to the FormsCentral server? Ipad use is key for my field sales team. The "submit" button is missing when the PDF is opened through Adobe Reader (mobile) on the iPad (iPad4 iOS 7.1). Is this because iPads do not have "Flash" and is there any workaround?

You have two options for "offline" PDF workflow with the iPad.
One is to use an Acrobat Email workflow, not collecting responses in FormsCentral but adding a Submit button in Acrobat to email the form responses to you. When users fill out the PDF and click Submit it will queue the email, when online again those emails would be sent and you'd get the responses.
Using FormsCentral is a little more work in the offline case, see this response from Genevieve where she describes how to do it: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5339644#5339644
That info aside, the Submit button in a FormsCentral PDF should work fine in Adobe Reader Mobile for iOS. Are you sure users are opening the PDF in Adobe Reader mobile? The Submit button would be missing if Preview was used to view the PDF on the iPad.

Did you even try looking this one up yourself? Google "java pdf" and you get plenty of results. The first one looks pretty promising, and I'm sure there is plenty of documentation with the API.

I am trying to teach myself PDF internals. My immediate objective is to save some private data in my PDF files. My data is structured as "variable/value" pairs but I chose not to save it as custom properties because of its bulk and the possibility of confusion and undesired manipulation by the end user.
The above example immediately suggests that I should use an object of "dictionary" type. Let's try to assemble the file manually:

Is the above initial attempt correct? I will of course use the corresponding API to create the dictionary, but I am concerned about breaking things. Won't Acrobat get confused when it finds this foreign stuff?

Thanks for your always valuable help. FYI, my data is of a global nature. I suppose I should come up with some unique name ("MyPrivateData" or something) and place such entry in the Catalog?
This thread brings up a related topic. It is about the uniqueness of the JavaScript namespace. My PDF files are generated automatically and JavaScript code is added to them. I haven't done any tests yet, but I foresee the following problem: those generated PDF files may end up being merged with each other which brings the potential of namespace conflicts.
Let's say that the first JS-laden document has 3 pages and another one has 2 pages. I suppose there is no way to restrict it like: "this JS code applies to the first 3 pages only". As soon as the 2 documents are merged all the JS code (and worst of all: the variable and function names) applies to the 5 combined pages, correct?
There are 2 possible solutions:
- Perhaps there is a way to declare some JS code as belonging to one page only?
- Use collections. This brings a whole new layer of complexity and expense.

Let me make sure I understand the request... There is a feature in the Response table to "Save Response as PDF Form" and you'd like to do this excluding the null data (unanswered questions). If that is correct it is not supported, the "Save Response as PDF form" will save a PDF that is the entire form filled out as the user filled it.

What are the reasons for disabling the saving of data in a PDF?

I seem to have had more than my share of encounters lately with PDF files that have editable fields but have their data saving capability disabled.
In some of these situations this has been an absolutely maddening inconvenience.
When I attempt to bring this to the attention of whomever's responsible I get brushed off.
One person's response was: Actually the majority of the PDF forms I have are Adobe reader and you cannot make changes electronically at all. The reason for this is to make sure that the documents are not altered in any way. The <companies creating the PDFs> must make sure that changes are not being made to their forms.
I just don't understand that. How is entering and saving data 'altering' a PDF?
Is this just bone-headed bureacracy, an urban legend, or is there some fundamental practical matter I am not aware of?

Saving a filled-in form has always been disallowed with Adobe Reader, formerly known as Acrobat Reader. Though there are a few exceptions...
History lesson:
Forms features were first introduced in Acrobat 3. As you might imagine, a number of folks wanted to be able to save filled-in forms using Acrobat Reader. Since this functionality simply was not a feature of Reader, it was not possible. If you wanted to save a filled-in form, you needed to use Acrobat (Exchange).
Upon recognizing the potential market for a product that they could sell, Adobe developed and released Acrobat Business Tools, which was a version 4 product. It was positioned between Reader and Acrobat, was reasonably priced, and allowed users to save filled-in forms, apply digital signatures, and add comments. Unfortunately, this was marketed poorly and did not achieve commercial success.
The next iteration was a similar product named Acrobat Approval, which was a version 5 product. It too could save a filled-in form, but was in some ways more limited than Business Tools, and suffered a similar fate. That is, it was not a market success. It was however distributed for free to US taxpayers on the IRS tax products CD-ROM.
The next idea from Adobe - which was a good one - was to provide for a means of embedding usage rights in a PDF document. These rights would allow Reader to do things it normally would not be able to do, such as saving a filled-in form, adding comments, importing/exporting form data, creating new pages using templates, connecting to databases and web services, etc. At first, the only way to enable these usage rights was with an expensive product from Adobe, so the potential was initially not realized.
With the release of Acrobat 7, Acrobat users were able to add some usage rights, such as commenting. While this was a welcome addition, folks still wanted to be enable forms to be saved with Reader. Finally with the release of Acrobat 8 Pro, users were able to enable forms to be saved with Reader, but it came with licensing restrictions. In short, if the licensee distributed the form for more than 500 recipients, the licensee could use data from no more that 500 copies of a particular form that was returned to them, including hardcopies. This was great for forms used inside of an orginization, but not so great for forms that needed to be used by the general public. Still, it was a very useful feature for a majority of businesses for internal forms, the vast majority of which have fewer than 500 employees.
Acrobat 9 or 10 didn't change things. Adobe still wants to capitalize on this market, which certainly is not a bad thing for Adobe and their stockholders. The US IRS forms have long been saveable with Reader because they licence Adobe Reader Extensions, which provides revenue for Adobe.
Note that some third-party PDF viewers allow users to save filled-in forms whether or not the documents have usage rights. Such software has a different marketing model than does Adobe Reader/Acrobat, and rides the coattails of Adobe by taking advantage of the popularity of PDF forms.

How to upload data in the pdf file to the R/3 with fileupload element ?....

I need to upload the data in the pdf file to the R/3 with fileupload element.
But I am not able to get the correct data(it is confusion code) in the pdf file when I debug the programe. However, I am able to get the data if the data is in the txt or excel file.
Do you give some hint for this problem ?

Saving Offline PDF form from Web-Dynpro with Dynamic File Name

Hello All,
We have a offline PDF form.... When we save the form, a default file name appears. We need to change this default name to some value that is already available in the form fields.
I have gone through some posts in the forum. However not able to figure out the solution.
Following are the details:

Import data in a PDF created by LiveCycle

Anyone know how I can take a txt file or (any other format I can create from a txt file) and import data into a pdf document created in LiveCycle? Is this possible? What do I need to do? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can export user responses into an excel file. To do that, open the responses tab, select Files -> Export Responses and select Microsoft Excel to export response data into.

If you created the form Go back to Acroabt and go to advanced menu and choose:
Extend Features in Reader. then save.
Now open Reader and you can add information and save. (limit 500 instances per pdf).
Now if you created the form and have Acrobat make sure Acrobat in not in Forms Edit Mode.
Just type in your information and save.
Caution make sure that you finished all corrections and edits. because once you confer reader right you can not edit the form. you can edit the form items you fill in, but not the form itself.
to correct the form design you have to go back to advanced reader rights and save a copy without rights. make changes then confer rights again.
