Transition in the middle of a video clip

How can I insert a transition such as a cross dissolve into the middle of a video clip?

Hi larryjo:
You need to highlight the clip by clicking on it, then go to Edit / Split Video Clip. You will see a line where the clip has been split.
Then drag your transition to that split line. It will work then.
Might want to download these for some help...

  • Can I edit out the middle of a video clip in iMovie?

I know how to crop the beginning or end of a video, but I would like to crop out a section in the middle. I don't want to lose the part following the cropped frames. What must I do? Thanks for any advice you can offer. Miriam

Can I edit out the middle of a video clip in iMovie?
    Yes.
    What must I do?
    Basically you have three options:
    1) If the clip is in the "Event" window, simply select (i.e., set and adjust if necessary "in" and 'out" points) the segment you want and transfer it to your "Project" window and place it where you want it.
    2) If the clip is already in the "Project" window, simply select (i.e., set and adjust if necessary "in" and 'out" points) the segment you want to keep...
    a) and press the "Split" option in the edit menu (or the "Split Clip" option in the context menu) to divide the clip into three segments. Then select each of the segments you don't want and press the "Delete" key to remove them from the "Project" window.
    b) or, even easier, simply press the "Trim to Selection" option in the "Edit" menu.
All of these work flows do not physically remove anything from the "Event" but merely perform a non-destructive edit of the project for the purpose of later output.

  • Added a Song...How do I fade the song in the middle of a video clip?

I have a 5 minute video of my daughters first birthday. I added a song, but I want to accomplish the following:
Start the song 15 seconds into the video (after we sing happy birthday)
Fade the Audio roughly 2 minutes into the video so that I can highlight my older daughters voice
In between all of this I want to detach the background noise/talking from the video so only the song is heard.
There are only a few clips of the video that I want the voices to be heard, other than that, I just want the song to be the only audio.
    Help???

    Yes, you can do this.
    1) Drag the song and drop it on the video clip at the point (15 seconds) where you want it to start. You drop it on top of the video clip - not in the background.
    2) You will want to isolate the clips where you want your daughter's voice to be heard. If they are already separate clips, this is easy. But if they are part of one long clip, you can select the frames that you want to isolate by dragging with your mouse. A yellow border should be around these frames. Then EDIT/SPLIT CLIP. Or right-click/Split Clip. (Note: It is important to do this in the Project, not in the Event)
    3) Once you have Split the clip, you can open the audio inspector and turn the volume down on those video clips where you want the clips to be muted. Turn the audio down to zero. For those clips where you want your daughter's voice to be heard, select the clip. Go to the Audio tab of the inspector, and turn on Ducking. Ducking will diminish all other tracks by the percentage you specify.
    4) [This Video Tutorial|http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/imovie08.html#audioclips] is a good explanation of audio in iMovie. It is for iMovie 08, but most of it still apples in iMovie 09.

  • How do I edit out the middle of a video clip?

I am used to shortening a movie clip on either end, but don't know how to cut out a portion in the middle. Please help me. Thank you.

    Hello Miriam Griggs
There are a few ways you can do that. Check out the  page below and it will layout the multiple ways to trim clips, even the stuff in the middle.

This isn't the actual clip, I fixed it by highlighting and moving everything over but it'd still be a good thing to know for the future. This is essentially the situation i'm talking about. I would never use it for something this simple, but when more complicated editing is being done it isn't so easy to just move all the clips over.

  • Why Does My Camera Stop Recording in the Middle of a Video??

Why does my Rebel T3i stop recording in the middle of me video taping?? Is it because I do not have enough space on my camera for a video? It lets me take plenty more pictures. And when it stops in the middle of a recording, I start recording again, and it works for a little while then stops again! I really don't get it. It is extremely frustrating because I am left with all these chopped up video segments and I completely miss something that my baby is doing (the reason I started taping in the first place!) I am begining to wonder if I should just invest in a video camera instead of taping with my camera. I would REALLY prefer not to, seeing as how I spent a fortune on it, and would like it to do what it is intended to do! Can someone please help??

The camera formats the memory card using the "FAT32" filesystem rather than a proprietary filesystem.  This allows the card to be read by nearly any computer (Windows, Mac, etc.)
HOWEVER... there's a limitation in that filesystem that no single file can grow above a specific size.  That size is 4GB.
Also, the camera documentation describes that the camera will stop just 1 second short of the 30 minute mark regardless of the file size.
In pro video, movies are normally constructed by bringing together many very short clips.  The one-long-continuous-take video style isn't used.  If you are attempting to record a long event in one-long-continuous-take then it would be better to use a video camera for the task.

  • How can I raise the volume on a video clip in Premiere Elements 12?

I want to raise the volume on a video clip in Premiere Elements 12. Can anyone help?

    jcomput
Always good to give the computer operating system involved in case any computer specific details needed to be included. But here is your
generalized yet specific answer for Premiere Elements 12 and increasing the volume of a video clip.
If you are in the Expert workspace...
    a. click and drag upward the orange band that runs horizontally through the middle of the audio clip.
    or
    b. go to Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/ Volume Panel expanded on move the volume slide toward +6 dB.
0 db does not represent no sound. It represents the volume of the sound when it was recorded. 0 to +6 dB increases the sound above the recording level; 0 to infinity symbol decreases the sound below the recording level, finally to muted sound.
Please let us know if you are OK with the details above. My blog post on PE12: Audio Features may be useful to you.

  • No longer able to adjust the length of a video clip in imovie 6 HD

Without warning (or reason) I can no longer adjust the length of a video clip (new or old) in imovie. I've tried the old way of highlighting the clip and putting the cursor at the start or end, but the cursor doesn't change. I've also tried double clicking on the clip but then the length is fixed.
This problems happens in new and old movies and remained after I deleted and reinstalled imovie.

I searched further using the correct word (trim) and found that I had to turn off the audio levels

  • Is it possible to control the duration of a video clip in IMovie? Speed

Is it possible to control the duration of a video clip in IMovie? Speed
    it up/slow it down?

I actually think the content gets smoother in faster mode. But maybe that's just my opinion.
By the way, the fast/slow/reverse effect is pretty sensitive, i use it for my fight scenes in movies and I can only raise the bar one notch faster before it starts to look cheesy.

  • How do I mute the audio of a video clip in PS 6

I have video clips on several layers in the timeline and want to mute the audio of specific video clips - they are on video lines, not the audio line

an interesting development as I proceed with the video. I guess I'm missing an integral concept here. It appears that some of my cideo clips import into the project and the segments have a blue color. These offer an option to fade in or out the audio, to mute the audio or adjust the volume.
Other vidoe clips import purple, like the still image files, and hence these do not offer any audio options, just motion objects.
So, what am I doing wrong? Why do some video clips import (purple) as image files?

  • IPad freezes in the middle of a video playback

This is a second time I post this problem. When I first got my iPad, it froze in the middle of a video play back consistently. I called tech support, all they can do was to ask me to reset the iPad. However, that did not fix the problem. I was sent to an Apple store and given a new one. The second one apparently has less than problem. It looked the Kindle app affected it. I spoke to Apple tech support for over 5 hours, none was able to help. One supposedly to be a senior advisor said if the iPad did not work even after restoring it as new, she did not what to do. The second one does not have the problem as frequent as the first one, it does freeze occasionally. When I first posted this problem, another person responded that he/she had the same problem. His/her problem went away after a new one was given to him. If you experience this problem, please post it. Otherwise Apple would never know. None of the tech support was able to fix the problem

J.K.ROFLing in another thread suggests following the advice of this Apple kBase article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2413
which suggests re-installing the QT 7.5.5 from the package installer (link is in the kBase).
This worked for me and has solved my problems.

  • How to stop the jerking of my video clips? on Premiere Element 10

How do I stop the jerking of my video clips when I add  effetcs ..to do not zoom in or out etc..smoothly.
    Thank-you,
    Claudette

    Claudette,
When you started your Project, from the New Project screen, you were given some choices. If you do not recall what you chose, you can go to Edit>Projects Settings>General, and see what you chose. I do not think that location has moved in PrE 10, but if it has, someone will correct me.
Now, in very general circumstances, one should choose a Project Preset, that matches their Video Source Files 100%, or there can be issues.
However, if one ONLY has Still Images, and there is no Video being used, things differ a bit. In that instance, one would ask themselves a question, "how will I deliver my Video, created from those Still Images?" That answer might be a DVD-Video, a BD (Blu-ray Disc), a streaming Video files on a Web site, or as a file, that one sends to others. With a Stills Only Project, one would most likely choose a Project, that matches their delivery. If there are several delivery schemes used, then I would recommend choosing the one that is the highest resolution, and handling the others with Export/Share.
Now, within all Project Presets, there is a Frame Size, say 720 x 480 for an NTSC DV Project, designed to go to DVD-Video, or perhaps 1920 x 1080 for the production of a BD. Though PrE can Scale large Still Images to fit, it does not do the best job, and there is a major processing "hit," that can bring a computer to its knees. For those reasons, we recommend using a program, such as Photoshop, or Photoshop Elements, to do that Scaling, before one Imports the Still Images into the PrE Project. For SD (Standard Definition) DV, the "rule of thumb" is to Scale to 1000 x 750 pixels. For an HD Project, that same thinking would be 2000 x 1500 pixels. That gives one some "wiggle room." I will actually Scale to the exact pixel x pixel dimensions, unless I have a compelling reason to do otherwise - then, I will calculate the larger size, and Scale to exactly that.
How will you deliver your Project?
What are the specs. of the Project (using the method above)?
What are the pixel x pixel dimensions of your images? If they are random, then concentrate on the larger ones, please.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Why is it, if i have one video clip in the timeline, i can't just add a transition at the end of that solo clip to fade to black!?! please help!

hey there, so im making a video for a family event..
i drag in an audio clip all of a sudden this becomes the be all and end all, and i want to sync some vid clips to that audio track, so let's say i drag in a 10 second video clip, at the end of the 10 seconds, i want to add a transition to fade to black.. i go to the transition window.. choose the cross dissolve or fade to colour, but it will not allow me to drag it on that video clip.. it always ends up on the audio track. this bloody application is so confusing compared to final cut. please help!

Ahhh, now I see the problem, Grasshopper.  Problem is, we are all Grasshoppers, here.
Yes, that little piece of info is critical. I'd say the biggest difficulty with FCPX is the whole new language.
If I read you correctly, your Audio is in the Main Storyline (Track 1 in plain old Editorese). This makes anything else you add (above or below) a "connected clip", which we can no longer think of as "Track 2" because Jobs sez so. So, yes, you cannot just add a transition to either end of a connected clip.
No argument with Tracy's solution, because I haven't seen any other general solution presented for any attempt to treat connected clips as the main storyline.  And, of course, when they were "track 1" and "track 2", you could.
An alternative solution, however, is to highlight the connected clip and press Ctrl-V to bring up the Video Animation Editor.  Click the "reveal button" for Compositing: Opacity (bottom, right).  Once open, there is a "fade handle" to the right top.  Drag it left for however much fade you wish.  (there is one on the left as well, but you were only talking about a fade-out.)
A second alternative, perhaps for future projects where everything keys on audio, may be to create a Gap clip (used to be called slug) in the primary storyline before ever dropping in the audio.  Then you can add video to the main story line and modify it without having to go thru hoops to do the simplest thing.

  • A different part of a clip gets inserted in the middle of a a clip

I am completely stumped! I subdivided a long clip into smaller clips in the timeline, and edited other clips in between. In one subclip, the video from a different section of the original longer clip keeps getting inserted into the middle of of the clip. The audio, however, remains uninterrupted. No edit points are evident. This keeps happening regardless of whether I try to replace this clip with the same section from the master clip from the browser, or if I delete the clip altogether and do an insert edit with the same footage. The same thing also happens even if I replace the effected clip with another source clip entirely--the same length and section of video appears in the middle. The "intruder" section of the clip does have an orange render line above that section while the rest of the clip is blue. If I render the sequence, the orange line is replaced by blue, but the unwanted video remains. I did confuse the slip and roll tools at one point while editing this piece, but I can't say for sure whether this is when the unwanted section appeared.
None of the workarounds I've tried (replacing the clip or deleting it and re-editing the clip into the timeline) seem to work. Many thanks for any ideas!!

I used an Airport Express to extend my FIOS wireless network w/o an AirPort Extreme.
You likely configured your AirPort Express to "join" the FIOS wireless network. The Express does not provide any additional wireless coverage in this type of configuration.
If you want to test to see if the Express is really extending, look at the label on the side of the AirPort Express and jot down the AirPort ID that you see there.
Then, locate your Mac laptop near the Express. Hold down the option key on your Mac and click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen. Look for the BSSID.
Does the BSSID match the AirPort ID of the AirPort Express?
If no, the Express is not extending the signal. Your laptop is connecting to the FIOS router.
