Transport Tablespace from Physical Standby in Oracle 10gr2 - 64 Bit

How to Export Transport Tablespaces from Physical Standby Server - Oracle 10gr2 EE in Windows 2003 EE, Since Production Servers are in 24*7 Support to avoid make Read Only Tablespaces.

Open your Physical Standby in read only mode and do your export. Then mount it back in managed recovery mode.

Using streams to capture data from physical standby database.

Does anybody know if it is possible to use streams to capture data from physical standby database instead of PROD database? The standby database is in read only mode. We use Oracle 11gR2.

physical are closed : how will it managed the queues and overspill queues when target is not present? Also the data dictionary must reflect the primary but If you run capture, then you introduce rules that are not on primary: How ?

Error in Transport Tablespace from linux to windows

I am testing the cross-Platform Transport Tablespace. As per the oracle, we can transport tablespace from linux to windows without conversion because both are using same endian (Little).
But i am fail to do Transport Tablespace from Linux to Windows.
I am performing Transport Tablespace process as following:
from Source Oracle Database server(red had linux as 4 32-bit oracle version:10.2)
Sql> alter tablespace TEST read only;
$ expdp system/pass dumpfile=test.dmp directory=export_dir transport_tablespaces=test transport_full_check=y
after this i am coping test.dmp and data file (test.dbf) to the target machine (ms windows xp 32-bit with oracle 10.1) .
on Target Machine (with Ms windows xp os) here i am giving the following command:
impdp system dumpfile=test.dmp directory=exp_dir transport_datafiles=/exp_dir/test.dbf
but it is giving following error:
ora-39001: invalid argument value
ora-39000: bad dump file specification
ora-31619: invalid dump file "c:\pks\1103.dmp"

Question-Recovering tablespace in physical Standby...Oracle 10g?

Hello:
I have an interesting issue. I thought I will ask the group.
I have a physical standby database in 10g. Once of the datafile is in inconsistent state due to a crashed DB during recovery from the last time around.
I do not have any archivelogs, either on standby or primary .. Unfortunately.
However, the primary database is alive and well.
How do I recover my datafile selectively? Is a complete restore/recreation of the standby is the only option?
Any ideas?

Transportable tablespaces with Logical Standby

Does anyone know whether or not transportable tablespaces can be used in a Logical Standby environment? I know they can be used with a Physical Standby, and the documentation covers how to do this, but there's nothing about Logical Standby. This is Oracle 10.2.0.4/SLES 10.

Using transportable tablespaces to a logical standby environment. Actually, there is a paragraph in the 10.2 Data Guard Concepts and Administration manual. I will summarize:
After creating the transportable tablespace export file on the source system, copy the datafiles to both the primary and logical standby systems.
On the dataguard logical standby, within SQLplus, issue SQL> alter session disable guard;
Import the tablespaces into the logical standby database
SQL> alter session enable guard;
Import the tablespaces into the primary database.
In 10.1, we imported the tablespaces into an environment with a physical standby and then converted the physical standby to a logical standby.
I tested the procedure for 10.2 and it seemed to work. Has anyone else done this and if so, are you aware of any issues? Like I said, the documentation is one very brief paragraph.

Drop a datafile from physical standby's control file

I am trying to create a physical standby database for my production...
1) I have taken cold backup of my primary database on 18-Nov-2013...
2) I added a datafile on 19-nov-2013 ( 'O:\ORADATA\SFMS\SFMS_DATA4.DBF' )
3) Standby control file was generated on 20-ov-2013 (today) after shutting down and then mounting the primary database...
When i try to recover the newly setup standby using archive files, i am getting the following error (datafile added on 19th Nov is missing)
SQL> recover standby database;
ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors
ORA-01110: data file 39: 'O:\ORADATA\SFMS\SFMS_DATA4.DBF'
ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 39 - see DBWR trace file
ORA-01110: data file 39: 'O:\ORADATA\SFMS\SFMS_DATA4.DBF'
How to overcome this situation...
Can i delete the entry for the newly added datafile from the backup control file ?
When i tried to delete datafile using "alter tablespace SFMS_BR_DATA drop datafile 'O:\ORADATA\SFMS\SFMS_DATA4.DBF';", it is showing that database should be open..

What is your version?
If you added new datafile or created new tablespace, take backup again for restore new created standby database.
If your standby database running well, DG configuration success, then this datafile will create on standby side, too.
Set STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT=AUTO best practice.

Not need any delete datafile from standby side, you must recreate standby database, or you can take RMAN backup and restore to standby side again.

It is possible to do what you ask by using cascaded destinations. See the Data Guard Manual (online at OTN) http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/cascade_appx.htm#i636046
for the information. This relies on the standby creating and re-transmitting redo log data.

Questions regarding creating a physical standby database in 10gR2

I'm setting up a physical standby database in a test environment using two windows 2003 servers. I was wondering if someone could answer a few questions I'm not too clear on. I've been thru the data guard manual and as much online information as i can find. I may have it working but wanted to post some things I'm not sure I did quite right.

The next item I'm not sure about is after creating the control file for standby use.
One the primary server I created it using:
alter database create standby controlfile as 'sbcontrol01.ctl';
I copied the primary database pfile I had created earlier to the standby server, renamed it and edited it.
Initially I left the CONTROL_FILES= parameter pointing to the control01.ctl, control02.ctl and control03.ctl that I restored. But I was getting the error ORA-01665: control file is not a standby control file
So I copied the sbcontrol01.ctl to sbcontrol02 and sbcontrol03.ctl and pointed the CONTROL_FILES= parameter at them.
The error went away and the database came up. I still need to test it some more but wanted to see if what i did was correct or a fluke.

If in the primary I had control files named control01, control02 and control03 would I have been able to create a standby controlfile called control01.ctl or would I have had to name it something else like I did (sbcontrol01.ctl) and rename it to control01.ctl once I got it over to the standby database server?Suppose you have the primary database control file in C:\oracle\primary\control location with names control01.ctl and control02.ctl. Then also you can create a standby controlfile with control01.ctl and control02.ctl , but then the location to be created must be different.You can create it in C:\oracle\primary location and then transfer to the specified location mentioed in the pfile of the standby database and mount the standby database.
But saying this i would suggested to keep the name different from control01.ctl as far as naming conventions are followed.It might confuse someoe whether its a primary database controlfe or a standby database controlfile.Usally primary database controlfile are named control01.ctl , coltrol02.ctl etc and for standby many do prefer keeping standby01.ctl, standby02.ctl.Thats just for for understanding.

Goldengate from physical standby with Active data guard or from logical standby - which is better?

We have Oracle 11.2.0.4 and are currently using Active Data Guard on a physical standby. My boss wants me to use Goldengate
to replicate several schema from Oracle to SqlSserver. She doesn't want to touch the Primary, which is in production. Would it be better
to setup a Logical standby for Goldendate to use, in addition to the Physical standby? Or will it be sufficient to use the Physical standby?
The application tables don't all have primary keys. I'm trying to decide if the Logical standby adds another layer of complexity or would
introduce delays in getting the data from Oracle to Sqlserver.

Hi,
In this case I recommend you to use physical standby + Golden gate with ALO mode. You might have sligthly more trouble in logical standby. it means you might have more trouble at Goldengate's extract side.
You said
The application tables don't all have primary keys.
so you have to add keycols on replicat side.
I recommend you to add an index which should consist of keycols columns. it will be necessary for replicat performance.

I open a new question about testing a standby database a because of this:
I realize that my standby database is 10g Standard and not Enterprise and not 11g.
Because for testing we plan to modify data on Standby, we are looking for some way to restore Standby to the point before testing.
So, I can't use Flashback Recovery Area for restoring my database to a certain point after testing.
In this scenario, the only way that I think is:
On Standby
- Shutdown database
- Copy by O/S all datafiles, temp files, control files and redo logs. That will be my backup before testing.
- Open database, test and modify data
- When test is finished, shutdown database
- Copy and replace by O/S all datafiles, temp files, control files and redo logs from backup place
- Open database as standby and apply all archived redo logs needed.
Would be it work without problem or should I copy other files?

it comes under Refresh of database, use --> cleanup --> restore.

How to stop and cancel physical standby database (ORACLE 10g)

I have physical standby setup and I want stopped for the time being that to use the database as an normal DB (standalone inestance).

executing below query on primary db stops log shipping to standby.......i think this is sufficient for disabling your physical standby setup temporary
alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=defer scope=both;
In future if you want your dataguard setup back..............you can rebuild the standby and enable the log_archive_dest_state_2 parameter.

I have a question regarding Physical Data Guard in a RAC environment (Oracle 10g Release 2).
Say we have 4-node RAC in production and DG is also configured for RAC but number of nodes differ in production and DG. Which node in DG will apply log from production if?
1) If there is 2 node RAC setup in DG?
2) If there is 4 node RAC setup in DG?
3) If there is 5/6/7/... node RAC setup in DG?

I have a tablespace which contains raw devices
What is the best way to copy this tablespace to some other database which has filesystem rather than raw devices?
Both hosts and destinations are Oracle 9.2.0.6.0 on hp unix

How about ftp, scp if they have fast network connectity
else tape drive.
and you would to use dd in on the source side to convert it from raw device to cooked file system at source or directly at the target.
I suppose you have different question if yes then please elaborate.
