Transportable Tablespace in No archive log

Can I use transportable tablespaces when both source and destination databases are in noarchive log mode?

  • Hangup transport archive log in primary and archive log apply

    Hi
    I am building Dataguard from 3-node primary cluster to 3-node standby cluster
    Oracle Version:10.2.0.4
    Operating system : LInux 64 bit
    After I restored standby database, I configured dataguard broker with wrong unique_name parameter in standby cluster using grid control
    after I corrected mistake, disabled dataguard broker parameters, delete dataguard broker files and reboot standby cluster but don't reboot primary cluster because is production enviroment.
    I have problem with following symptoms:
    -Hangup transport archive log while recovery database in standby then gap archivelog is produced.
    -Copy and register all archivelog gap in standby but don't apply archive log.
    - Don't register like applied in v$archived_log in primary the archives applied in standby manually.
    -RMAN command: "backup as COMPRESSED BACKUPSET tag 'Backup Full Disk' archivelog all not backed up delete all input;"
    don't delete in primary archive log applied because message " archive log is necessary"
    I think that is necessary reboot primary cluster.
    Please helpme

  • When creating a tablespace why should we enable LOGGING when a database is already on ARCHIVE LOG mode

    Question :
    When creating a tablespace why should we enable LOGGING when a database is already on ARCHIVE LOG mode ?
    Example:
    Create Tablespace
    CREATE SMALLFILE TABLESPACE "TEST_DATA"
    LOGGING
    DATAFILE '+DG_TEST_DATA_01(DATAFILE)' SIZE 10G
    AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT  500K MAXSIZE 31000M
    EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL
    SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO;
    LOGGING: Generate redo logs for creation of tables, indexes and  partitions, and for subsequent inserts. Recoverable
    Are they not logged and not recoverable if we do not enable LOGGING? What is that ARCHIVELOG mode does?

    What is that ARCHIVELOG Mode Does?
    Whenever your database is in archive log mode , Oracle will backup the redo log files in the form of Archives so that we can recover the database to the consistent state in case of any failure.
    Archive logging is essential for production databases where the loss of a transaction might be fatal.
    Why Logging?
    Logging is safest method to ensure that all the changes made at the tablespace will be captured and available for recovery in the redo logs.
    It is just the level at which we defines:
    Force Logging at DB level
    Logging at Tablespace Level
    Logging at schema Level
    Before the existence of FORCE LOGGING, Oracle provided logging and nologging options. These two options have higher precedence at the schema object level than the tablespace level; therefore, it was possible to override the logging settings at the tablespace level with nologging setting at schema object level.

  • Standby not in sync because test on primary of transportable tablespace etc

    This environment is new build environment , have not in use yet.
    db version is 11.2.0.3 in linux, both primary/standby are configured in RAC two nodes and storage are in ASM storage.
    primary db had tested by migration data using transportable tablespace methods. So the datafiles imported were put in a local filesystem which I have to switch to ASM afterwards.
    In such way, the standby db got the impression that datafiles should be in local filesystem and it got invalidated.
    Here is the error from standby log:
    ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 4 - see DBWR trace file
    ORA-01110: data file 4: '/stage/index.341.785186191'
    and datafiles names are all in local filesystem in standby: /stage/...../
    However in primary datafile names are all in ASM instance:
    +DAT/prd/datafile/arindex.320.788067609
    How to resolve such situation?
    Thanks

    My steps for transportable tablespaces after scp the datafiles to linux are import the transportable datafiles into the database. and then using rman to copy it to "+DATA' in asm. and then switch dababase to copy.
    Those procedure all worked on primary.
    The standby was built before the transportable tablespace when there are only system, users, tools etc basic tablespaces. it worked and in sync with primary. However everytime the primary tested data migration with the transportable tablespaces, it will not work.
    so what is the right way to perform this migration? how can I made standby in sync with primary and to read the datafiles in ASM storage?
    Is there a way before the RMAN command to transfer the filesystem datafile to ASM, can I copy those local filesystem datafiles to ASM storage ? then do a import transportable datafiles with those on ASM?If you added any datafiles manually then those will be created in standby also as per the settings,
    But here you performing TTS, of course DML/DDLs can be transfered to standby by archive logs, but what about actual datafiles? Here in this case files exist in primary & those files not exist in standby
    AFAIK, you have to perform couple of steps. Once after your complete migration done in primary do as follows. (Do test it)
    1) Complete your migration on primary
    -- Check all data file status and location.
    2) Now Restore standby controlfile & newly migrated tablespaces in standby Database
    -- here you can directly restore to ASM using RMAN, because you are taking backup in primary using RMAN. So RMAN can restore them directly in ASM file system.
    3) Make sure you have all the datafiles where you want and take care no one data file is missing. Crosscheck all tablespace information in primary & standby databases.
    4) Now start *MRP*
    Here is my above plan, But I suggest to test it...
    One question, After *successful migration* are you able to SYNC standby with primary earlier ?

  • Database refresh using dump and archive logs

    Hi all,
    I have a full datapump dump taken from oracle 11g R2 database (PROD) running in HP-UX server.The dump was taken on March,1,2012.
    Also i have all the archive logs till today (March 13,2012).
    I want to clone it to a new database (TEST) in windows machine with this dump, and i want to refresh(restore) the database (TEST) using this archive logs to make the database sync with the (PROD) till today.
    I need your suggestions.

  • Data Guard Missing Redo Archive Logs

    Hi All Gurus
    I have setup data guard on windows 2008 server sp2 with oracle 10.2.0.4.0 (Both OS & Oracle DB are 64 bits).
    The Network Admin have shutdown Backup server. Now when I checked the Archive status as follows
    1. select * from v$archive_gap;            It shows a gap in archives       e.g. 891 - 920.
    2. SELECT THREAD#, SEQUENCE#, APPLIED FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG;                 e.g. 891-920 Not Applied.
    Now I issue following command
    1. SELECT RECOVERY_MODE FROM V$ARCHIVE_DEST_STATUS;                                e.g. MANAGED REAL TIME APPLY
    2.  DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE CANCEL;
    or  ALTER DATABASE RECOVER  managed standby database disconnect from session ;
                        e.g.      incompatible Media Recovery in Progress
    3. Alert Log says Adjust CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME to sufficient limits.
    I have also adjusted CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME to 90 days as follows
    4. show parameter control_file          e.g. CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME=90
    5. I have checked firewall and tnsping for both Primary and Standby Server e.g. tnsping CVMIS (Primary), CVMISBK (Standby)
         Both are OK. TNSPING is showing 10-30msec delay.
    6. I have checked the web for gap Removal, Mostly are using RMAN method to Backup and then Restore to Standby DB.
          Is there any other way to fill this gap without using RMAN? I mean DG automatically fill it by using some commands
         are settings?
    Kind Regards

    Well there seems to be some connectivity issue on Primary DB (I Guess!!!).
    But when I issue tnsping from Primary Database, the result is
    SQL> host tnsping umisbk (Standy DB Name)  --->   Status: OK [10-30msec]
    And when I issue tnsping from Standby Database, the result is
    SQL> host tnsping umis (Primary DB Name)    --->   Status: OK [10-30msec]
    So what your Recommendation.
    Kind Regards
    Thuhnder2777

  • Archive Logs NOT APPLIED but transferred

    Hi Gurus,
    I have configured Primary & Standby databases in same Oracle Home. OS version is OEL 5. Database version is 10.2.0.1. I could get the archive logs in the standby site but they are not getting applied in the standby database. I don't have OLAP installed in my database version. Would this create this issue? However I attached my primary alert log details below for your reference:

  • *HOW TO DELETE THE ARCHIVE LOGS ON THE STANDBY*

    HOW TO DELETE THE ARCHIVE LOGS ON THE STANDBY
    I have set the RMAN CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY; on my physical standby server.
    My archivelog files are not deleted on standby.
    I have set the CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default on the Primary server.
    I've checked the archivelogs with the FRA and they are not beign deleted on the STANDBY. Do I have to do something for the configuation to take effect? Like run a RMAN backup?
    I've done a lot ofresearch and i'm getting mixed answers. Please help. Thanks in advanced.
    J

    Setting the Policy will not delete the Archive logs on the Standby. ( I found a thread where the Data Guard product manager says "The deletion policy on both sides will do what you want" ). However I still
    like to clean them off with RMAN.
    I would use RMAN to delete them so that it can use that Policy are you are protected in case of Gap, transport issue etc.
    There are many ways to do this. You can simply run RMAN and have it clean out the Archive.
    Example :
    #!/bin/bash
    # Name: db_rman_arch_standby.sh
    # Purpose: Database rman backup
    # Usage : db_rman_arch_standby <DBNAME>
    if [ "$1" ]
    then DBNAME=$1
    else
    echo "basename $0 : Syntax error : use . db_rman_full <DBNAME> "
    exit 1
    fi
    . /u01/app/oracle/dba_tool/env/${DBNAME}.env
    echo ${DBNAME}
    MAILHEADER="Archive_cleanup_on_STANDBY_${DBNAME}"
    echo "Starting RMAN..."
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target / catalog <user>/<password>@<catalog> << EOF
    delete noprompt ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-8';
    exit
    EOF
    echo `date`
    echo
    echo 'End of archive cleanup on STANDBY'
    mailx -s ${MAILHEADER} $MAILTO < /tmp/rmandbarchstandby.out
    # End of ScriptThis uses ( calls an ENV) so the crontab has an environment.
    Example ( STANDBY.env )
    ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
    ULIMIT=unlimited
    ORACLE_SID=STANDBY
    ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/11.2.0.2
    ORA_NLS33=$ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib
    LIBPATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/lib

    #export TERM=linux=80x25 wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong

    export LIBPATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH ORA_NLS33
    export TNS_ADMIN
    export PATH
    export MAILTO=?? your email hereNote use the env command in Unix to get you settings.
    There are probably ten other/better ways to do this, but this works.
    other options ( you decide )

    Tip I don't care myself but in some of the other forums people seem to mind if you use all caps in the subject. They say it shouting. My take is if somebody is shouting at me I'm probably going to just move away.

  • Create procedure is generating too many archive logs

    Hi
    The following procedure was run on one of our databases and it hung since there were too many archive logs being generated.
    What would be the answer? The db must remain in archivelog mode.
    I understand the nologging concept, but as I know this applies to creating tables, views, indexes and tablespaces. This script is creating procedure.

    The amount of redo generated is a direct function of how much data is changing. If you insert 'x' number of rows, you are going to generate 'y' mbytes of redo. If your procedure is destined to insert 1000 rows, then it is destined to create a certain amount of redo. Period.
    I would question the <i>performance</i> of the procedure shown ... using a cursor loop with a commit after every row is going to be a slug on performance but that doesn't change the fact 'x' inserts will always generate 'y' redo.

  • Will RMAN delete archive log files on a Standby server?

    Environment:
    Oracle 11.2.0.3 EE on Solaris 10.5
    I am currently NOT using an RMAN repository (coming soon).
    I have a Primary database sending log files to a Standby.
    My Retention Policy is set to 'RECOVERY WINDOW OF 8 DAYS'.
    Question: Will RMAN delete the archive log files on the Standby server after they become obsolete based on the Retention Policy or do I need to remove them manually via O/S command?
    Does the fact that I'm NOT using an RMAN Repository at the moment make a difference?
    Couldn't find the answer in the docs.
    Thanks very much!!
    -gary

    Hello again Gary;
    Sorry for the delay.
    Why is what you suggested better?
    No, its not better, but I prefer to manage the archive. This method works, period.
    Does that fact (running a backup every 4 hours) make my archivelog deletion policy irrelevant?
    No. The policy is important.
    Having the Primary set to :
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBYBut set to "NONE" on the Standby.
    Means the worst thing that can happen is RMAN will bark when you try to delete something. ( this is a good thing )
    How do I prevent the archive backup process from backing up an archive log file before it gets shipped to the standby?
    Should be a non-issue, the archive does not move, the REDO is transported and applied. There's SQL to monitor both ( Transport and Apply )
    For Data Guard I would consider getting a copy of
    "Oracle Data Guard 11g Handbook" - Larry Carpenter (AKA Dr. Paranoid ) ISBN 978-0-07-162111-2
    Best Oracle book I've read in 10 years. Covers a ton of ground clearly.

  • RMAN never deletes archive log backups

    Hi all,
    I have same problem as some of you have already faced.
    I have some instances 10.2.0.4 running un archive log mode.
    I take full hot backup daily.
    I setup a rman script to backup and delete obsolete backups according to the following policy:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 2 DAYS;
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 2;
    and then:
    run {
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL RMAN_BACK_CH01 TYPE DISK;
    BACKUP AS COMPRESSED BACKUPSET DATABASE FORMAT '/mnt/rman_202/pnetpres/db_pres_%U';
    CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL;
    BACKUP AS COMPRESSED BACKUPSET ARCHIVELOG ALL FORMAT '/mnt/rman_202/pnetpres/al_pres_%U';
    CROSSCHECK BACKUP;
    DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE;
    DELETE NOPROMPT EXPIRED BACKUP;
    RELEASE CHANNEL RMAN_BACK_CH01;
    crosscheck archivelog all;
    delete noprompt archivelog all completed before 'sysdate -2';
    DB full backups are being deleted, however archive logs backups are not deleted.
    There are no tablespaces in backup or offline mode.
    How can I know the reason why some archive log backups are kept ?
    Even I clear the policy and perform a crosscheck and delete, those are not marked as obsolete neither deleted from disk.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Fernando,
    This are the ouputpus of the commands:

    Hi,
    "The archived log is not the correct log.
    It is a copy of a log file that has never been used for redo generation, or was an online log being prepared to be the current log."
    "Restore the correct log file."
    Can you say, what is last changes on your database, On log files?
    Did you copies your '/redolog2/redo/redolog3a.log' log file from other ?

  • Is the only way to import large amount of data and database objects into a primary database is to shutdown the standby, turn off archive log mode, do the import, then rebuild the standby?

    I have a primary database that need to import large amount of data and database objects. 1.) Do I shutdown the standby? 2.) Turn off archive log mode? 3.) Perform the import? 4.) Rebuild the standby? or is there a better way or best practice?

    Instead of rebuilding the (whole) standby, you take an incremental (from SCN) backup from the Primary and restore it on the Standby.  That way, if, for example
    a. Only two out of 12 tablespaces are affected by the import, the incremental backup would effectively be only the blocks changed in those two tablespaces (and some other changes in system and undo) {provided that there are no other changes in the other ten tablespaces}
    b. if the size of the import is only 15% of the database, the incremental backup to restore to the standby is small

  • Archived log file are not shifted to standby side and applied

    Hi Guru's,
    DB
    My OS Version:Windows Server 2003
    DB Version:11.2.0.1.0
    I am trying to create Physical Standby DB on my test machine after setting all the parameters and start standby db in mount mode when i do the verification of archived log files that need to be shift from pri site to standby site i am getting:
    no rows selected.
    I am following the below mentioned doc for reference
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25608/create_ps.htm#i63561
    Can anyone from your side can help me to sort out this problem.
    Thanks in advance

    Yes the max sequence generated on primary is same as the max sequence applied on standby.
    And what is MRP and why it is important can you please let me know abt thisWhenever you created standby database, Make a habit of tail to alert log file to monitor whats happening on the standby database, Besides MRP is an Media Recovery Process , which applies archies/redo on standby database.
    MRP can apply based on the redo transport, If you are using real-time apply then Redo will be writtened to the standby redo log files at the same time recovery will be performed by MRP process, If you are not using Real-Time apply then whenever a archive generated on primary that archive will be transported to the standby and applied on the standby database.
    It is recommended to use Realtime apply, so that you can avoid much data lost.
    However you are in 11gR2, You can use below query to monitor
    SQL> SELECT * FROM V$STANDBY_EVENT_HISTOGRAM WHERE NAME = 'apply lag'  AND COUNT > 0;
    NAME             TIME UNIT                  COUNT LAST_TIME_UPDATED
    apply lag           0 seconds                 431 08/05/2012 22:14:21
    apply lag           1 seconds                   7 08/05/2012 22:13:31

  • Error ORA-39125 and ORA-04063 during export for transportable tablespace

    I'm using the Oracle Enterprise Manager (browser is IE) to create a tablespace transport file. Maintenance...Transport Tablespaces uses the wizard to walk me through each step. The job gets created and submitted.
    The 'Prepare' and 'Convert Datafile(s)' job steps complete successfully. The Export step fails with the following error. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
    Thank you in advance!

    More information:
    Using SQL Developer, I checked the view SYS.KU$_IOTABLE_VIEW referred to in the error message, and it does indeed report a problem with that view. The following code is the definition of that view. I have no idea what it's supposed to be doing, because it was part of the default installation. I certainly didn't write it. I did, however, execute the 'Test Syntax' button (on the Edit View screen), and the result was this error message:
    =======================================================
    The SQL syntax is valid, however the query is invalid or uses functionality that is not supported.
    Unknown error(s) parsing SQL: oracle.javatools.parser.plsql.syntax.ParserException: Unexpected token
    =======================================================
    The SQL for the view looks like this:
