Tree GUI .. without JTree

I am expected to provide a windows explorer like GUI (expand,collapse,folder view) without using JTree ..
I have an NTree data structure from which is populated and i have to display that in a tree structure
P.S : no JTree is to be used ..
what basic components shud i use [jlabel, jbutton .. ] how do i provide the hierarchy view .. pls help me ..

I did something quite similar once with AWT, but I can't find the sources anymore. Anyhow, I can give you still some hints about how I did it:
Basically, you start your new JComponent:
class MyTree extends JComponent {All the magic happens in the paint method. (You will have to implement several other methods as well, but the paint method is the most important of them all).
The tree is a recursive structure, so it would be best to write a recursive algorithm. This way you can handle the ident quite easily (e.g. increase it every time the method is invoked and decrease if afterwards). The lines can be done with drawLine, the selection with fillRect, etc. It's a lot of work, but doable.
Why can't you use the JTree? Since you speak about JButton I assume you can use Swing? The JTree component is quite flexible, thanks to its model view controller approach. Are there performance issues? Too many nodes? You might be faster working around these issues (e.g. lazzy initialization, don't load subdirectories unless they are needed etc).

I'm rewriting a client side.of a chat system.
It's written in Swing. I have a few questions:
1.) Is it possible to write a Graphic User Interface (GUI)
without the need for user to install Java Runtime Environment (JRE)?
If it's possible how do I do it?
[Through Internet Explorer's (IE) Virtual Machine (VM)? or simply rewrite the SWING into AWT?]
2.) An programmer told me about a trick: wrap AWT arround SWING so that the SWING-code could run under AWT without any problems. Do you know how it works?
I'm posting these question here because I couldn't find any useful information about it.
All I found is VM specification, SWING, Applet with JRE. Everything require JRE.
I don't see any way arround it.
I believe some of you are smarter and maybe able to help me out. I'd apreciate everyhelp.

1. no JRE or Java at all
- You export the graphics. So The client machine draws olny the graphics, but it does not contain any code.
2. Through Internet Explorer's (IE) Virtual Machine (VM):
If it is a Java 1.1.8 Application, just add the swing package of the sun site to the classpath.
I never tried this, so I can't say you how to do this.
3. Using the Sun JavaPlugin.
Just download it on the client machine.
It contains the whole JDK 1.3 or JDK1.4 functionality, inclusive swing.
4. wrap AWT arround SWING:
I would not do this, because the functionality of AWT is a subset of SWING. For example you have no trees in AWT, like JTree. In order to this you can't wrap an "AWT Tree" to a JTree.

i worked with apex 4.2 and i created Tree and tabular form to retrieve the date according the value of tree select node the code of tree something like this

2- i want when selected from tree run page process according to value of tree node i tray to create Dynamic action with *(jquery selector : div.tree li>a)* but the Value of node incorrect.

If you by "default" mean "selected", then you can use one of the setSelectionXXX methods in the JTree API.

How to cut, copy and paste a tree node in JTree?????

Hi, Java GUI guru. Thank you for your help in advance.
I am working on a File Explorer project with JTree. There are cut, copy and paste item menus in my menu bar. I need three EventAction methods or classes to implements the three tasks. I tried to use Clipboard to copy and paste tree node. But I can not copy any tree node from my tree.
Are there any body has sample source code about cut, copy, and paste for tree? If possible, would you mind send me your sample source code to [email protected]

Opening a tree structure without clicking

Dear friends i have asked this question before but i can get no exact answer. I have an DefaultMutableTreeNode objects which are displayed as a tree structure on a GUI. As you normally know , in order to see the branches of a tree you should click on the tree. But i want to open that tree structure ( which was constructed with DefaultMutableTreeNode objects ) without clicking on it.

Using text in a GUI without using .swing classes

In a Java application, is there any way to create a text object that can be positioned in a GUI like an ImageIcon (using a class from the standard Java API)? For example, when using ImageIcon, you feed the x and y-coordinates, whereas with .swing, you'd have to create a new panel, position the panel, and re-position the panel using BorderLayout.(direction).
Ex. (with ImageIcon, you'd place it like so):

Creating a directory tree with a JTree???

I want to display in a JPanel the directory structure of my disk, like Windows Explorer. I suppose I have to do it with a JTree, isn't it? But do you know how? The default model only takes strings introduced by me.

You can use the JSP Tree Tag I have developed. This helps you both structuring the tree model itself + it takes care of displaying the tree in a nice way. You can change all HTML code used to display the tree. Also you can build trees dynamically instead of just displaying static trees. Take a look at it here:

Closing a gui without closing its parent

hi,
I am building a GUI that is opened up by another GUI. My problem is that when I close that new GUI, it closes all the other ones that I have open. It is because I am using System.exit(0);
My question is, what do I need to do to just close the new smaller GUI that I have opened, without closing the rest?

How to render image in tree control without embed it

Hello frndz i am working on tree control and want to show imagein its node through xml list collection.i have searched a lot for this but in every example with tree control images are embeded.i dont want to hardcode the image.Need to make the image comes from database(Xml).so is there any live or demo example for tree control.

if you decompile the imaging.ear file, there is a web.xml file which you can add the following parameter:

Simulate multiple trees on a JTree

Hi all,
is there a way to remove the line that binds the nodes of a tree?
I want to have something like msn friend's list, where there is a tree with multiple nodes "root nodes", and they have 0 or more children and no node is connected to any other by a line.

Spanning tree - balanced without use vlan ?

Hi, i´m sorry if this is a classic question.
i have implemented rapid pvst like show in the image. The dotted lines are the alternative links. (image 1)

I want to make a kind of balancing like image 2. But the problem is that i have vlan 100 (and other vlans) in side A and Side B.
So, if i make

SwitchA: spanning-tree vlan 100 root secondary
The SwB it change to primary for vlan 100.
But i want to the switchB be the primary for side A and secondary for side A. No matter the vlan. Is possible?

Hi, i know that is possible, but doing this the result is unbalanced for mi network. For example vlan 20 reside in all switches and vlan 21 reside in only one switch.
i want to the switchA be the primary for side A and secondary for side B. No matter the vlan. Like image 2.

How to create static tree nodes without query

i want to create static tree .
e.g.
Employee
Department
Order
these names are static. i dont have from query. but i have to link that nodes to pages how can i do?

I modified my example to show an extra level for the employees.
But I can't say that I fully understand what you are trying to do. You say you don't want to use links, but you want to use the tree for the navigation of pages. And you say that all the names are static, yet there is a node saying 'show employee' ...
But I hope you now understand how it all works and can continue your work!
