Tree SQL

A tree has a main query of the form
select id, parent_id, link, a1 a2
My query is quite complex - so apart from using a view, does anyone know if it possible to produce this from a stored procedure or function?
Thanks
Phil

I fixed it thanks to Scott's post on Re: Tree help - Multi-user concerns - almost there!
1) Create a View based on collection_name = 'YOUR_COLLECTION'
2) Create a Tree in your application based on the above view
3) Create an HTML DB Process to create and populate your collection ONE TIME
4) Run your application
Note that I had to recreate the tree using the wizard to make it work, creating the view based on apex_collections and modifying the Select statement of the existing & non-working tree to make use of the view led to the same error. I'd really like to understand why btw.

  • Trees/SQL Question

    I want to display an entire tree (top to bottom) given any leaf in the tree.
    Eg:
    ID Parent
    1
    2 1
    3 2
    4 2
    5 4
    6 3
    Given input of "3" display
    1
    .2
    ..3
    ...6
    Is this a case of two different trees? 3->6 and 1->3 ??

  • Multiple tree objects in ApEx 4.0

    Hi all,
    I'm working on a project where i need to put 2 tree objects in one region.
    First tree object is correct but when i add my second tree below the first one no data is shown or the wrong data is shown.
    Strange thing is when i put the second tree above the first tree it all works well.
    Is there an explanation for this or is it a bug in ApEx?
    my apex version is 4.0.0.00.46

    Hi,
    Pre-Apex4 you could make use of the A1 and A2 columns in the tree SQL along with the tree template to conditional set the color of the node text. Does anyone know how to achieve this in Apex4? I've tried using the tree SQL shown below but this displays the HTML (SPAN tags) as text.
    select case when connect_by_isleaf = 1 then 0
                when level = 1             then 1
                else                           -1
           end as status,
           level,
           '<span style="color:red;">'||"ENAME"||'</span>' as title,
           null as icon,
           "EMPNO" as value,
           null as tooltip,
           null as link
    from "#OWNER#"."EMP"
    start with "MGR" is null
    connect by prior "EMPNO" = "MGR"
    order siblings by "ENAME"Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • Dynamic Tree

    Dear friends
    I have two view objects, one one them generate a table and the other one generate a tree, but in this phase tree generated with statice view, but I would like to generate it with my table rows and I have to change the tree SQL statement and bind a variable in START WITH part in my query. Let me know how can I do this.
    Thanks a lot.
    Babak Saraie

    Hi
    I think it is possible, because I did it with two view objects, one of them as a root and the other one a child but it worked with static bind variable, it means I made a parameter and set it with default value so it work perfectly but when I change the parameter value when move on the table rows the tree generate just one level of nodes!!!!! (I have some view links and this structure is work correctly with static value)
    Let me know If someone have any suitable suggestion.
    Thanks

  • Bug report: Invalid tree select statement

    Hi,
    there seem to be two issues with tree regions.
    1) The SQL statement of the tree region isn't validated as it is done for example for LOV statements when the user apply the changes in the builder.
    2) If a tree SQL statement is invalid and you run the page, it doesn't show the SQL error, instead the error
    Warning: Tree root ID "1" not found
    is displayed, which is very misleading where the actual problem is! It would be better if the SQL error is displayed.
    Thanks

  • Data Structures in SQL Server

    Friends,
    I am giving a session on "Data structures and SQL Server" for one of the SQL Server communities in India.
    My idea is to explain high level concepts of data structures (Stacks, Queues, Linked lists, Trees, Graphs etc.)
    here are my questions.
    Like to know how data structure concepts are implemented SQL Server components (in a high level).
    Here are some hints in my mind:
    1. Queues - SQL Server - DMVs for Processor Queue length, Disk Queue length etc.
    2. Linked Lists - SQL Server - Previous and Next page pointers in Page headers (and DBCC IND)
    3. Trees - SQL Server - Btrees in Indexes (DBCC IND and DBCC PAGE of Index pages)
    3. Linear Search - SQL Server - Table Scan
    4. Binary Search - SQL Server - Index Seek
    What i need is:
    1. Sorting algorithm used in SQL Server?
    2. Stack concept used in SQL Server? I think No
    3. what else data structure concepts are implemented in SQL Server (that can be demonstrated)
    Note: level: 300 - Intermediate to Advanced.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
    Take a look at some structures created for In-Memory OLTP (hash indexes, etc.)

  • A theory about trees (ApEx 4.0) regarding save activated node

    Hallo all!
    Can someone please confirm (or not) my theory about trees regarding save activated node in ApEx 4.0(.1):
    With my first tree I tried to set a varchar2-value for the last selected node ... didn't work. After many tries I was succesful with changing this to a numeric value...
    ...Is this a bug or a feature? ;-)
    Btw.
    Another supposing regarding the source-code of trees is that this can't be longer than 4000 bytes. Is this right?
    And if so ... can I put a Funktion in there that returns the statement (like in classic reports, but with static row-structure)?
    Hope this time someone out there is attends my thread.
    With kind regards...

  • Issue with Tree (new jquery Tree)

    Hello,
    when I try to attach HTML code in the "name" alias field of the tree sql, APEX displays the HTML code escaped.
    I don't see anywhere where to avoid this, like it is for example for the display field object.

  • Tree as popup lov?

    If a table has a foreign key to a table which is hierarchical, I - and I imagine many others - want users to be able to populate the foreign key from a tree based on the foreign key table.
    This seems possible if the tree is placed on its own page, but I want it to pop up as/like an LOV.
    There's an earlier post from saying that in 2003 HTMLDB didn't support this.
    Is it now supported? How can it be achieved?
    Also, can anyone explain what columns 'a1' and 'a2' (columns 5 and 6) are in the tree SQL syntax?
    Thanks
    JD

    A good solution might be to add a new "item" - "Tree Popup Key LOV" in the following versions of APEX?
    I'm creating an application entirely using APEX API, and I can not know in advance what will be "p_tnn" for item.
    if form1.rows_all.FieldValues [ 'mnemonic'] = 'OPERATOR' then
    begin
    form1.pagers8.Lines.Add ( 'p_item_default =>''Declare''| | chr (10 )||');
    form1.pagers8.Lines.Add ( '''r_id VArchar2 (150 );''|| chr (10 )||');
    form1.pagers8.Lines.Add ( '''begin''| | chr (10 )||');
    form1.pagers8.Lines.Add ( '''SELECT SURNAME ||''''''''|| NAME ||''''''''|| PATRONYMIC INTO r_id FROM sa_users WHERE ORA_NAME =: app_user;' '| | chr (10 )||');
    form1.pagers8.Lines.Add ( '''return r_id ;''|| chr (10 )||');
    form1.pagers8.Lines.Add ( '''end ;'',');
    form1.pagers8.Lines.Add ( 'p_item_default_type =>''PLSQL_FUNCTION_BODY'',');
    form2.pagers8.Lines.Add('wwv_flow_api.create_page_item(');
    form2.pagers8.Lines.Add(' p_id=>'+items_id+' + wwv_flow_api.g_id_offset,');
    form2.pagers8.Lines.Add(' p_flow_id=> wwv_flow.g_flow_id,');
    form2.pagers8.Lines.Add(' p_flow_step_id=> '+inttostr(tab_sequence*10+1+tempi3)+',');
    form2.pagers8.Lines.Add(' p_data_type=> ''VARCHAR'',');
    form2.pagers8.Lines.Add(' p_accept_processing=> ''REPLACE_EXISTING'',');
    end; Thank you for your quick answers!

    Disconnected from Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options

    To add to Patrick's suggestion....
    What I am suggesting is not the cause of the FLOWS_030000 user existing error, but could be another issue which caused your installation to fail.
    In your post, you said...
    This is the command i gave to configure from SQL prompt:
    @D:\Apex3.0\apexins.sql <Newly Create User> <Newly Created Tablespace> <Newly Created Tablespace> TEMP /i/
    You have specified an absolute path when running the apexins.sql script. In order for the installation to succeed, you must first change your working directory to the directory where you unzipped the apex_3.0.zip file and then run the script. This is because the apexins.sql script subsequently references other sql scripts, using relative paths.
    You have also not included a password in your command, was this just for purposes of the posting, or could this also be an issue, as in:
    @apexins password tablespace_apex tablespace_files tablespace_temp images
    Hope this helps,
    Anthony

  • Column_name in user_ind_columns when descending??

    When I create an indexe with a descending column, the value in user_ind_columns.column_name is not the actual column_name, it's something like SYS_NC00002$. I'm trying to build a Select statement to identify the columns in an index, whether ascending or descending. Everything is fine if ascending, but if descending I cannot figure out how to identify the actual column_name. What table should I be joining to?

    Interesting. I notice from analyzing descending index that it appears to include NULL rows - I am not sure why, since B*Tree and FBI do not. Not sure whether that explains the difference times Laurent is getting for his range scan.
    Can't think of a reason to use a descending index on a single column. Tom Kyte points out (in his book, available on Amazon etc. blah blah) that multi-column descending/ascending indexes can be used to sort queries with different sort orders on different columns (providing they match those of the index presumably).
    Anyway, back to NULLs...

  • Drill-down reports Discoverer-style

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a way to implement drill-down reports in HTMLDB. All the references I found are showing details in a 2nd page for a certain row in the 1st page (e.g. ordered items for an order ID).
    I'm not looking for this, but for drill-down "a la Discoverer", such as this example
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/discoverer/discoverer_1012/viewer/lesson1.htm#t7
    One can select there multiple criterias for drill down.
    Perhaps the solution would be a combination of tree reports with standard reports
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/htmldb/howtos/howto_tree.html
    but I don't see clearly how to do it, especially with a lot of drill-down options.
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Many thanks,
    Marius

    I think there are two differen approaches:
    - using the HTML report and doing some "dynamic" SQL at the block level
    (That means you have to write the drill down - this is the logic that
    is done by the tree - by yourself)
    If you ever have done the work to do this in combination with a HTML DB report,
    please post it here.
    - using the a Tree Page with a special layout and view
    Which one to use depends on how often you have to use this.
    You can see an example under:
    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=41053:30
    Here is a quick hack for the Tree Page variant, that may help you.
    Using a Tree page uning a view and changing the tree template gives you some of
    this functionality. If you have to do more of this kind use a stylesheet (.css) to
    controll the layout.
    1. Create a View that represents your Hierarchy (Structure)
    For every level create a UNION secion.
    Using UNION you can get the records from different sources also.
    2. Create a Page with a Tree, SQL Query Based.
    Use the View that you created before.
    NAME .. are the levels of your dimensions
    A1, A2 .. are your measures of your fact
    ID, PID .. the hierarchy (structure) information
    * Step 1 - creating a view:
    create or replace view tree as
    select id, pid, name, link, a1, a2
    from (
    -- Level 1 (Root Level)
    select
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYY') id, null pid,
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYY') name, null link,
    to_char(sum(ORDER_TOTAL),'999G9990D99') a1, to_char(count(*),'999G9990D99') a2
    from DEMO_ORDERS
    group by
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYY'),
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYY')
    UNION
    -- Level 2
    select
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYYMM'), to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYY'),
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'Month'), null,
    to_char(sum(ORDER_TOTAL),'999G9990D99'), to_char(count(*),'999G9990D99')
    from DEMO_ORDERS
    group by
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYYMM'), to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYY'),
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'Month')
    UNION
    -- Level 3 (Leaf Level)
    select
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYYMMDD'), to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYYMM'),
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'DD. Day'), null,
    to_char(sum(ORDER_TOTAL),'999G9990D99'), to_char(count(*),'999G9990D99')
    from DEMO_ORDERS
    group by
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYYMMDD'), to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'YYYYMM'),
    to_char(ORDER_TIMESTAMP,'DD. Day')
    )If you have a lot of this kind of reports you realy should think to
    use discoverer. It does a lot of sql behind the szenes and also in the
    presentation logic - this is what you have to do here by hand.
    If you have more than two measures (A1,A2) you can do the
    formatting in your view (realy ugly, but it is a workaround).
    * Step 2: Create the tree page
    Tree Query:
    select
    "ID" id, "PID" pid, "NAME" name,
    null link, a1 a1, a2 a2
    from TREEBefore Tree:
    <table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">After Tree:

  • Bugs introduced in EA releases

    Hello guys,
    I just want to mention few bugs which were introduced in your last three EA releases and which are really annoying...
    1) When you have multiple table/view tabs open and browsing amongst those tabs, it happens the grid is reloaded. It looks like the database is queried again. I noticed this happens only once for that particular table or view. This is making me crazy when there is some complicated query behind that view or when you have filter set since this will clear the filter and reloads the table without it.
    2) Almost everytime when I have some table open and switch between Columns tab to Data tab I get warning message "Connection is currently busy. Try again?" If I click abort it continues to load the table...
    3) If there are connection problems, or simply when the connection is lost and you want to open a table from the table tree, SQL Developer get stuck and you have to shoot it down via task manager. I bet this has to do something with the Reconnect feature. Guys if it doesn't work, don't put it there. Current implementaion of reconnect is useless anyway.
    4) When opening new tables, I very often get "Data stream already closed" error message. Then you have to refresh the table...
    I don't have time to investigate how exactly reproduce these bugs, you should do it. But I think, anyone who is working with latest release of SQL Developer, has to find these bugs as well.

    Unfortunatelly I have to say all these bugs are present in the production release as well...

  • TreeTable with Multiple Selection

    Hi,
    I have created a TreeTable which concludes multi-selection. In case of children selection (leaves) I get my goal, but the problem is when I try to select a Parent Node. I desire to populate a method that will traverse that Parent Node and walk down through its children to automatic select them, since their parent is selected. How can I do this?
    P.S.
    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.1; JSF ADF, BC;
    My TreeTable is populated programmatic (java), using a VO as its source, with no bindings at all (page definition).

    Actually I am using a treeModel too.
    I have built my case like this:
    1- When selecting a parent node, I retrieve its code (number) - Primary Key field value.
    2- Then, I have built a Recursive method, which will walk down through the SQL's returned records (tree-SQL statement with parents & children). At first I apply a filter to this table to get all the children of this parent. Then recursevily, I apply the same procedure to each child (so as to check if it is by its turn a parent of other nodes too), till it is a leave.
    3- For each node which is a leave, I temporarily store its unique value to an array (or whatever), so as to reflect changes to the DB when committing (saving).
    4- Finally after refresh, the changes we have performed will be expressed at the page's table, showing the parent node selected along with its children.
    P.S.
    My SQL-statement includes a column indicating whether the node is selected or not.
    Hope this helps you.
