Treo 755p - email takes forever to load, then more forever to sync. Seems to lock up temporarily

Post relates to: Treo 755p (Sprint)

Try a 10 second soft reset by taking out the battery for at least 10 seconds. This allows the device to power off completely, like a shutdown on a PC.
If that doesn't work, setup your email account again and see if it may correct the issue.

  • Contacts take forever to sync

I just got an iPhone. I imported about 600 contacts from Now Up to Date & Contact. The contacts often have information in the Notes field (that NUDC uses), but otherwise seem unremarkable in terms of their content. Never-the-less, the iPhone never completely syncs these contacts in iTunes. If I want to sync other information, I need to temporarily by-pass them and then return to them. I should say that the majority of them are in the iPhone, but changes made in Address Book subsequently are not reliably copied over.
Other details. We have an exchange server for email that uses MAPI passwords as opposed to IMAP. Thus, I am obligated to use Entourage instead of Apple Mail. I have sync services turned on between Entourage and iCal & Address Book. Is sync services possibly implicated in my iTunes sync issues?

I have been doing a little research on this topic and
have found very little. I am about to get a
Blackberry, so I want to get it straight to make
sure it is the right thing for me (and my computer).
The program that I found that people use a lot is
PocketMac. I have seen some good reviews and some
bad. I have not heard any details on what they like
or dislike about this program though. Feedback will
    be great.
Also, is this a Universal program? I don't want it to
take forever to sync if it is just for a few
    contacts, addresses, etc.
If anyone knows of OTHER programs too I could look
at, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
    Hi,
I have a blackberry 7100i with PocketMac SyncManager, works perfectly. I use pocket also with my PC and no problem wath so ever.
    Have fun!!!

  • Iphone3g Takes Forever to Sync

Is there a way to just load my new music from my PC to my iphone in a shorter time span?? It seems to take forever when my phone syncs, and all I want to do is add some new songs to my iphone. Maybe I'm wrong, but i think it's re loading the entire phone every time I sync, how do I prevent this??

iTunes creates/maintains a backup for your iPhone as the first step during the sync process. This link provides the data included with the backup, which can be significant.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
The backup includes photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll, and 3rd party app settings and data created and stored locally by a 3rd party app. Do you have a number of photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll, and do you regularly access 3rd party apps that create/store data?
If your iPhone's Camera Roll includes a number of photos, you can import the photos with your computer as with any other digital camera. I use iPhoto on my Mac for importing photos from a digital camera including from my iPhone's Camera Roll and for photo storage/management on my Mac. iPhoto includes an option to delete the photos from a digital camera after the import process is complete, which I always do. If there are any of the photos recently imported that I want available on my iPhone for viewing, I add the photos to an existing iPhoto album I've selected under the Photos tab for my iPhone sync preferences to be transferred to my iPhone, or create a new album and select it under the Photos tab for my iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync. This also reduces the time for my iPhone's backup when syncing with iTunes.
You can cancel your iPhone's backup by selecting X next to the backup status in the iTunes status bar area.
If there aren't any changes to music already transferred to your iPhone, the music is not re-transferred or shouldn't be. The same applies to Podcasts, video, and 3rd party apps.

  • Ipod nano 4th generation takes forever to sync

I have Windows Vista, Latest iTunes, and thhe 4th Gen. iPod Nano.
In addition to this problem i have only one USB port in the back of  my computer that works with my iPod. If i plug it in in any other port, Windows gives me a message that it has malfunctioned, etc..I don't know if that has any relevance to the problem im about to tell you. The following constantly recurs: I plug my ipod in to my computer and open iTunes. iTunes sees my iPod, so far everything is fine. I then proceed to automatically sync music, movies, and TV Shows to my iPod. It takes approximately 5 minutes to sync all my music(445 songs - 1.65 GB) and then by the movies it just continously sncs without end. The progress bar starts and remains at 1/4 done. In the most recent attempt to fix this, I have Restored and Reset my iPod Nano, but I was still waiting about 30 minutes for one movie to sync. And after i realized that it wasn't going to happen, i tried to stop the syncing by clicking the 'X' by the Sync progress bar, but it did nothing. So i instead clicked on the eject next to the picture of my ipod, and the result: Complete crash- iTunes stopped responding and in order to close it i had to unplug my iPod and close iTunes with Task Manager. The only thing i can do that works to sync is to enable Manually manage music and videos and add all music, movies and TV shows manually. But i really need to be able to automatically sync because manually managing everything is a pain. Please help!

I think there is someting wrong with your USB.  It's USB 2.0, correct, not a really old computer with USB 1.1?
It takes approximately 5 minutes to sync all my music(445 songs - 1.65 GB)
It's not syncing all of your songs every time, only changes since the last sync, so 5 minutes is probably too long of a time too.  The movies take a much longer time, because each one is quite large, compared to a song.
Here's a test you can do.  You can use a USB external drive, a USB flash drive, or even the iPod with disk mode enabled.  Find one of those movie files, something that is at least 100mb.  Use Windows to manually copy that one file from your computer's internal drive to something on the same USB port that the iPod uses to connect.  If you have a USB flash drive, that would be ideal.  Time how long it takes.
If it takes a really long time time to complete, that's the same problem iTunes is encountering.  It would be a more general problem that goes beyond iTunes and iPods.

  • Iphone takes forever to sync

My iphone takes about an hour or more to sync usually. It stays on "syncing contacts with 'Iphone'", mail accounts, and calendars for like 20-30 minutes a piece. My guess is because of my .pst file being so large. (10gb) yes i know it's huge, but i need most of everything in there for business. Is this what would be causing it to go so slowly? or is it just slow on vista? (or vista 64-bit)

    Check this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
The syncing of contact information, calendar events, and bookmarks is bidirectional with the iPhone and the supported applications on your computer - by the definition of syncing.
The process is called syncing with iTunes but not all data is synced by the definition of syncing. Some data - such as iTunes content and pictures transferred from your computer to your iPhone is a data transfer process only as part of the sync process. Contact information, calendar events, and bookmarks are kept synchronized.

  • HT1349 My  ipod touch 4th gen, will not let me access facebook or you tube it just takes ages to load then fails.  I have reset the ipod but its still doing the same.  Its only two months old, does anyone know how to fix it?

My sons ipod touch has stopped letting him access facebook or you tube.  On entering the app or going in via safari it just states loading for ages then fails, I have reset it for him, but it hasn't helped.  Is this a common problem?  It is only 2 months old.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • ITunes takes ages to load, then is really slow.

So I've been trying to use iTunes the past day and it's been taking ages to load and then is really slow when its opened. I used the most recent version of iTunes 11. Uninstalled, Reinstalled. Deleted preferenced, Reinstalled. Using iTunes 10 (which worked very well in the past). Finally I gave up and factory reset my PC. And STILL the symptoms are here. My question to the community is if anyone else is experiencing this.
    PC Specs:
    i5 650 3.2GHz
    12GB RAM
    1TB HDD
    nVidia GeForce GTX460 SE
So it's nothing to do with my hardware's capability.

    Small update...
WHen Itunes did eventually load... a few odd things happened.
    1. The icons on my toolbar flicked to white / blank and then came back
    2. Windows Update sprang into life and asked me to install 1 important update
    3. I got an error message
The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?
    5. I clicked Yes...
    6. It said it was checking my itunes library
    7. I got a message The Bonjour service has been disabled. Bonjour is required to share music with others. Please re-enable the service to use this feature
    8. This didn't seem to bad so clicked OK
    9. BUt then Itunes disappeared again. It is still running in processes but isn't open.
    Gah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Send email takes forever

When sending email on my iPhone using my work email account and connecting to my home wireless network, it says "Sending..." and sits there forever. It works fine if I switch to another wireless network or 3G (and receiving email works in all cases). So sounds like something wrong with my home wireless network. But I can send email using my gmail account on my iPhone when connected to my home wireless network. So it's something about the combination of my home wireless network and my work email account. My home wireless network is using Airport Time Machine (with WPA/WPA2 Personal and PPPoE). My iPhone settings for my work email are: SSL, password authentication, no IMAP path prefix, and server port 993. My work email server is Zimbra Server. These settings work fine on other wireless networks (and 3G), and other people at work have same iPhone settings. I'll bet there is something odd about my home wireless network, but I don't know what it is. BTW, I've had this problem since iPhone 1.0 and I'm now on 3.1. Any ideas?

Many email programs, including Mail, will send data up to a certain size.
The good new - there are some solutions. You can compress the file and make the email much faster to send; you can download a free application like Compress, which also allows you to uncompress. Or, you can send your email via your webmail connection (your ISP, like ATT); if you manage your email through your desktop computer, the email should be sent just fine.
Apple Mail is designed for smaller documents, well under 1mb.

  • When I send an email with an attachment larger than 1 MB in iMail, the email takes forever to be sent.

When I send an email with an attachment larger than 1 MB from iMail, the email gets suck in the sent folder.  This happens no matter if I am using wireless or using an ethernet connection.

  • Emailing takes forever from the built-in notes app

On Iphone 3G I am trying to email a note from the built-in Notes app and I have been getting the "sending 1 of 1" message now for over 40 mins.  I have a good wifi connection.  I don't have any apps restricted.  I powered the phone off and on. Any ideas?

Try testing other things that require Internet on your phone to see if they work. If you think it is because of the Notes app, try copying and pasting the text in your note. If it is still not working, try signing in and out of your Gmail account. Still not working, ask Apple directly.

  • Ipod nano 1st gen takes forever to sync

    hi all,
    I have a 4gb 1st gen nano
compared to my 4th gen ipod photo, syncing with fw or usb, and my ipod touch 4th, the nano takes a long time to sync anything.
for example on the ipod photo, it takes about a minute or a minute and a half to sync 70 songs, same on the ipod touch. On the nano, the same amount of songs can take up to 20min to sync.... whats with that? is there anytrhing i can do to speed it up? the nano is formatted mac, the photo is a windows formatted ipod. but same thing on a pc or mac..
    thanks in advanced

Are you using the same cable and USB port to sync each device?  It could just be the age of the Nano starting to show.  You might want to see if your 1G Nano qualifies under the recall for 1G Nanos.

  • IPod Touch 1G sync now takes FOREVER

Ever since I upgraded to 3.0, my iPod Touch takes FOREVER to sync to iTunes when I plug it in to my computer. Today I plugged it in to get the latest upgrade, and it's been synching for over an hour. Anyone have a similar problem or know how to fix it?
p.s. the 3.0 upgrade broke my iPod, so it has been completely restored since then as well.

    See:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
